    for everyone who watches this. I don't criticize what he says its just that I live in Israel and as someone who lives there he had a very religious experience and its not like that in other places. the whole toilet paper and the lift thing its only a small group of people wich most of them live in Jerusalem so if u go to Tel Aviv it won't be that different to other countries.

    This is really funny because I am religious and I live in a 30 story building in Jerusalem.
    So first of all we do have toilet paper rolls but we also have tissue boxes so you don't have to rip it on Shabbat.
    Shabbat means Saturday and it starts at sundown Friday evening and ends at Saturday night.
    So our elevator doesn't actually stop on each floor so to make it quicker it only stops on the way up but on the way down it goes all the way down to the ground floor and then it goes up gradually jumping up a few floors at a time so because I live high up I actually get to the ground floor super fast but it does takes me 5 minutes to go up in the elevator.

    • @davidrider2431
      @davidrider2431 4 роки тому

      A few items. First, I have lived outside the US including Israel, and traveled to most of the US states. Second, the single piece toilet paper dispenser is a more recent development. Years ago we used tissue boxes as you mentioned where the toilet paper was already cut so no tearing on Shabbat occurred in both Israel AND in the US (even today). Shuls have these dispensers but I have yet to see them in people's homes. Shabbat elevator. These can be activated and set up at the hotel, apt. , or condo front desk stopping at specific floors or ever floor. So it CAN or DOES stop at every floor if you want it to I remember the first time I saw a Shabbat elevator. I asked my Rabbi about using it. A nuance. Some people answered that he should go to Tel Aviv or Haifa to see a regular city that isn't like Meah Sharim. Well, Tel Aviv has several ORTHODOX communities including Bnai Brak...a very frum area.. I agree
      that prepping oneself BEFORE taking a trip to such a unique and diverse place like Israel is really called for.. He might not have been so surprised. I have traveled and seen the orthodox communities throughout most of the US. If he visited these places before going to israel he might see the diversity in the Jewish community.

    Hi, I'm from Israel and I just wanted to say that if you drive a car through most of the streets in Israel nothing will happen.
    Israeli people are really accepting and most of them accept people that don't believe in God, there is a huge community of people that don't believe in god.
    This kind of event hasn't happened in years and. Also, people that don't believe in God probably won't drive in those kind of streets not because their afraid but out of respect for those who are strict about shabat

      Agreed. When I lived in Jerusalem, I was walked to shul as Shabbat was coming in. I saw a small car that was lost
      as the sirens were going off. At the same time , I saw two families of hareidi Chassidim with little kids appear walking near this car and they just started yelling Shabbas, Shabbas!! Not ONE rock was picked up or thrown. I watched this from a far distance away. I also have NEVER seem a rock thrown over this issue. Another lie and false accusation. Also , I never understood this. A rock or tree branch is muktze on Shabbat and therefore cannot be touched on Shabbat.

    This is exactly what people from other countries will not understand ... so let me explain to you. It's really not that extreme. We have rolls of toilet paper just like you and most of the people in our country does not observe the Sabbath at all. There are places open to the secular and the closed places are usually of religious people who do not work on the Sabbath and are therefore closed. It is true that Sabbath-observant people are forbidden to do work, but we have books on the books of Jewish sages who explain why nothing should be done. It's much more complicated than you think. I know it's pretty hard to understand because you're so unused but the truth is, I keep Shabbat and it's not that bad. The way you describe it as if we were a country full of religious freaks. As we respect Christianity and respect it because we understand you, so please, do not judge us by the words of a person who visited Israel and anyone didn't explain anything to him about what and how and what we do.

    Actually, according to the tora or something, one can't ask a non-Jewish to do something on sabbath because he can't. It is as if he was doing it. The only way to do it is to express one's wishing for something to happen, for example, one can say "man, wish the fan would stop working!" and you need to volunteeringly do it. otherwise, it's desecration of the Sabbath. So basically, all the people that asked you to do stuff for them did not keep their mitzvas...

      tamar1411 You really should be careful in your criticism, because these people did act appropriately. The danger apparently was not imminent, and the preferred procedure would be to find a non Jew before things get out of control. That's what they did. You are mixing things up with another case scenerio where people use a non Jews service just for their own comfort.

    • @Triominecraft100
      @Triominecraft100 4 роки тому

      @MX well in the first place Palestine was given its name by the British occupation and the people living their (which according to Darwin or dickens - don't remember which - was very few) refused to call themselves Palestinians in rebellion to the British occupation. It was only when the Jews started migrating there during wwII that the people living there started calling themselves Palestinians in order to rebel against a Jewish occupation, then when England retreated from the land a war ensued which led to an Israeli victory, unfortunately that is the nature of war those who win dictate the land, if the Arabs where to win that war its likely all the Jews would have either been killed or removed. But ofc we could never know

    Hi I just wanted to point out that this guy didn’t light his cigarette and didn’t press the elevator button not because it’s considered as work, but because on “shabat” you are not suppose to light fire or use electricity. Also, most people in Israel don’t take “shabat” that seriously, it’s mostly time for us to rest and spend time with our friends and family. While “shabat” in Israel, there’s a different vibe, everyone is calm and enjoying themselves.

    As a religious guy from Israel i can try to explain a few things. The reason that we aren't allowed to "work" on Shabat is because we are commanded in the Tora to rest.
    We rest by not doing work and in the Tora there are 39 activities that defines what's considered work (one of them is not to light fire (think lighting fire in the old days) and operating electricity is related to fire).
    In regard to the events you encountered:
    1. We aren't allowed to smoke on Shabat (even if someone else light the cigarette).
    2. Tearing something that's not food related is not allowed and that's why we buy cut toilet paper (we usually use it only on Shabat).
    3. As i mentioned electricity is related to the activity of lighting fire and hence we aren't allowed to use an elevator. As you mentioned there's a special Shabat mode in the elevators that's working without intervention (be warned tough that even the close sensors doesn't work). This is why religious people here doesn't buy apartments in high storey buildings.
    4. We are allowed to ask someone that's not Jewish to make the work for us (not always! only in very special cases) and when we ask we need to ask in a non direct way.
    Honestly as a kid i didn't really like the Shabat since i couldn't play games in the computer... but as i grew up and especially since i started to work i can't praise it enough. I'm really enjoining it. I think it's a must for the family (in all aspects).
    We welcome you and everybody else to Israel. Come and enjoy your time here.

      about your comment :
      - Btw - there are many good restaurant in JLM (some are even opened shabbat)
      - Btw - if you go on shabbat to an ultra religious quarter by foot no one will throw nothing at you (a half naked girl will get spitted on maybe) , you cant go with a car since their roads are blocked shabbat , if you move roadblocks and enter anyway with your car then maybe they will throw stones at the car (not rocks).

    Lol as an Israeli, I can promise you that all of the things you spoke about the Shabbat ONLY happen at the most extreme religious places, and most of us are not religious (I am one of those people)... Therefore, you've only experienced one side of the Israeli culture.
    AND WE HAVE GODDAMN TOILET PAPER ROLLS!
    Personally I think that all these religion costumes are completely idiotic, but hey - to each their own! As long as you don't force your twisted agendas on me, I'm cool with it even though I think it's stupid and unecessary.
    Anyway... Go to Tel-Aviv or another none-religious city next time to experience the real majority of our culture.
    Also, Israelis really are pushy sometimes, but we are also very warm, welcoming, progressive and open minded. Especially the Millenials among us.
    Oh, and if you want to have an experience of a lifetime you should come here when it's rocket season lol. Just bare in mind that it gets pretty real sometimes and might actually scar you for life, but I believe that it's very important to experience the reality of war at least once in your life. It will really give you a new perspective about life - both the ugly sides (like having to go into the nearest bunker whenever you hear a siren and crying over loss of life) and the pretty sides (like how the entire nation comes together to support each other and especially the soldiers at the front lines.) and how lucky you are that you don't have to go through bullshit like this on a daily basis...
    Hope to see you again some day!

      LulitaInPita by rocket season, do you mean mowing the lawn in gaza?

    • @LulitaInPita
      @LulitaInPita 6 років тому +18

      Jermaine Ellis yeah, it's usually around the summer, but it differs from season to season. Usually we get it every 2 years, but as of now it's been relatively quiet for about 3.5 years, which is pretty unusual if you ask me!
      Nowdays it's mostly these annoying mini attacks where the occasional terrorist would try to run someone (usually soldiers) over with their car or stab them in the streets. They usually get shot immediately after or get taken in for questioning.
      Speaking of people going to jail - many young people from beyond the wall (More like a fence really. This is not Game of Thrones lol) purposefully try to cross the fence and get caught by the army just so that they can go to jails in Israel because the living standards in them are much better than the ones they have at home. And don't be mistaken - it's mostly because of their government which is fully in the hands of the terrorist organization Hamas. Instead of using the money and supplies and concrete they get from us to build themselves nice cities to live in, they use it to build tunnels to try and infiltrate Israel... It's really quite unfortunate and heartbreaking...
      I feel sad for all the innocent people on the other side who mean well (I know a bunch of them, and my mom actually volunteers to drive sick people from Lebanon who require medical treatment which can only be given to them in Israeli hospitals from the border to hospitals in Haifa and back. ) and just want to live in peace and quiet but are getting fucked by their own leaders... ☹️

      @LulitaInPita 6 років тому +6

      Ivantheterrible r well, technically yeah. But it always starts with showers of rockets being blindly shot at our side lol.

    Great story, I really enjoyed it. As a former resident of Jerusalem now living in Tel Aviv I recognize the people you describe and the things you said, but I wanted to comment about 2 points which are related. The so-called religious guy who asked you to light his cigarette on Shabbat is cheating. If you observe Jewish religious law, smoking is strictly forbidden on Shabbat and it doesn't matter who lights the cigarette. On the other hand, the two guys who asked you to turn off their fan are super religious, they could have done it themselves without violating any laws if there was a perceived danger to the people in the apartment. The fact that there were no sparks from the fan probably means that they weren't sure about the danger and asked for your help in order not to transgress a law unintentionally. Anyway, I'm glad you got a taste of Israel and you told a great story, come back for another visit!

    But the truth is, yes the whole Jerusalem crazyyy!
    But actually on the other cities all the people so regular.
    On Saturday and Friday all Tel Aviv open all the bars and clubs and restaurants works 24/7 .
    Jerusalem is like a other country.
    Even I don’t go there cause ppl are crazy there.
    I really recommend to all to stay in Tel Aviv and not Jerusalem because it’s so fun there , the beach , the people, EVERYTHING!

    the reason why israel customs gives you passport tickets is to avoid stamping your passport. the reason they don't want to stamp your passport is because so many muslim countries will refuse you entry if you have an israeli stamp in your passport and they don't want to create any travel obstacles for non-Israeli passport holders. Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon Libya, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen do not allow entry to people with evidence of travel to Israel, or whose passports have either a used or an unused Israeli visa. Also, people who hold an Israeli passport are currently not allowed in 18 countries.
