@Esuard Leder I knew this game in 2004, but i haven't ps console yet, in 2005 i started the Driver2 and finished it in 2011 and my PS has broken, Back again to Driver1 in 2018 finish the undercover in 2018 on a Laptop. 😁
Unlike games starting with the PS2 era, PS1 games run slower as the frame rate drops. In Driver it can be easy to spot if you look at the countdown/timer. Whenever the frame rate is not at the capped maximum (which it rarely is), one second on the timer takes longer than, well, one second in real life. This is bad for the speedrun as the real time is counted, not the in-game time.
That was the dream life, I was like 7-12 years old, would be driving around Miami. There was a house in the northern section of the map with a white picket fence that looked almost like my grandmother's house. So that is some nice nostalgic memories from me to you. The music in this game is amazing, to the point where I went out and learnt the New York Night (1st mission) music on piano, I don't even know how to read music notes hahaha.
The FB notification sound at around 39:38 had me paranoid lol. Love this game still to this day, been thinking of trying to speed run this game myself. Awesome run man.
Thanks mate, yeah, ya boi here forgot to close facebook when he started the run and there is like 3-4 notifications throughout the video hahaha and it comes through so clearly that when I watched this back before uploading, I truly thought I had a notification and was confused when I couldn't find it. As for learning, this time can be beaten by 5 minutes easy, I managed to find a glitch that allows you to almost skip the entire Los Angeles section.
This may have already been asked but how come you keep looking to the left/right of you? Does it prevent traffic from spawning or something? Also amazing run! This game was my childhood and seeing it being blown through like this makes me really happy.
Increases the framerate of the game so it runs smoother and faster. This is most noticeable on rain and night levels. The traffic spawn will stay put unfortunately.
There sure is a boat mission and it occurs on all difficulties. The message recorder you see me approach before each mission gives me the option to choose a mission. The game has about 42 or so missions in total, but depending on what route you take, you play between 20-24 missions. This is why you see me skip the boat mission as it is too long for a speedrun.

Oh it still lags, it is the whole reason why I look left / right whilst driving, to minimise it. The absolute worst spot for lag in the game is the main highway in Los Angeles. You can see the difference there between looking forward and looking right. But I know what you mean, I still have my original PS1 copy and PS1 on my shelf, just cherishing it.

Overall, the game itself performs more smoothly, but will still lag in most common areas, given the way the emulator is setup. Believe me, I would have loved to just run it straight on the console, it is the way I prefer. But I don't have the means to record my consoles sadly.

No worries, all the best with it, the thing that took me the longest to remember oddly enough was the mission selection process. I remember on the first run I posted, I had the choices written down on the right of me as I play, on my previous video's description (1 hour 15 vid) it has them written there if you need them mate.

Most common question hahaha, but I don't mind. Looking to the left or right reduces the amount of things the game has to render, especially if you are near a building. Doing this increases your frame rate significantly. The game will typically run at about 17-20fps in most situations, looking to the side increases this to 25fps for PAL and 30fps for NTSC

The timing is recorded separately to the game using "Live Split" So times submitted are the real life times recorded instead of the game. Since the game doesn't show you how long you took. If the game had an internal timer, for example; Metal Gear Solid, where at the end of the game it shows you the play time, then yes your statement would be correct.
the origional driver was absolutely perfect but then it got rereleased and it is absolute crap i played it for 5 mins on the xbox 360 and turned it off i just started playing NEED FOR SPEED hot pursuit on XBOX 360 and this also went down the same path both games have been changed for the worst

If the guys entered the car instantly (depends on where I park the car) You can actually beat that tram and get in front of it, but the timing is incredibly tough, especially with random traffic.

You will experience about 15-28fps when facing forwards, as opposed to facing to the right, which dramatically increases the framerate up to 25-30. You do an estimation of lets say, it improves gameplay by 5fps, in 1 hour of gameplay at 30fps (60hz), that is 10 minutes you just saved. Or an 18% increase in speed. The best place to witness frame improvements would be along the bridge on Los Angeles missions. It has the largest amount of stuff to render in the game. ( 51:41 ) Currently, I am running MGS 1 on Extreme Big Boss and I am only a few minutes away from World Record on PS1, you can find those here ( www.twitch.tv/oICEMANo ) Once I have achieved this goal or every now and then. I am going to return to this game and beat my time, as it can be beaten by 5 minutes.
Nah fam, just hard work and a dude who had some free time in 2017. I basically just kept restarting the game, over and over if I even had a big enough smash to slow me down, by New York... I kinda gave up, you can see that most of my crashes were in New York, because I was sick of restarting.
