Because of this game growing up when ever I was driving and sped through a yellow light or something I would quietly whisper to myself “Nice drivin’ son” and would pretend I was being chased by cops
A "neutral" ending is fitting for Tanner's character arc. He knows that there are still rats and crooked cops around in the city. That's why he refuses to go back to the police force. I also love how there is no foul words from Tanner when they want to give his badge back. He simply walks off the scene, respecting the older officer fella who gave him the opportunity to go undercover in the first place. The game simply wouldn't be the same if we had an good or bad ending. Tanner is not a crook, but he is not saint either. That...makes Driver 1 so special.
Still one of the hardest missions I've ever played. Usually you crash once your screwed. I remember my friend and I tried this mission for hours and finally jumped and cheered when we beat it!
My PS1 almost ended up thru the screen of my tv whilst trying to win this mission.... 200+ attempts later, I finally got it! Great vid. Thanks for the memories.
This was the craziest mission I ever played. I must have replayed this mission a lot of times to beat it. It definitely bought a lot of anger and frustration lol
I agree. I completed this about a month ago, also back in 2010 and I think my dad beat it eventually in 1999 or 2000. I will revisit the story at some point in the future…
Chase the Gunman is 10 times harder because of all the collision detection issues, that narrow cliffside road that goes on forever with rocks and debris everywhere, and if you hit the car too fast, you'll bounce all over, and dont even get me started on trying to drive on the edges like the AI perfectly does
"1st Level" & This last level FRIGGIN Brutal!!!! When Tanner was killed in GTA i felt that revenge so hard since i could never beat this level! This game was the ground work for GTA as we know it today though!
Just completed this mission after 20 years of being stuck on it. Funny thing is i took the exact same route before i came across this. There are other routes but you need to know the sequence of where cop cars will pull out as it changes. You also need a lot more luck than skill on this one.
It really is the complicated thing about the mission, the patrols do not have a pattern to appear, they will simply appear in any area if you are already losing them, all this since you cannot evade the police in this mission, when you are about to lose them more will always appear, anyway the advantage that for the mission they give you a fairly resistant vehicle I must say, but of course, once you get slammed into a building it will be tricky
A friend had this back in the day, we spent a whole night trying to beat this mission and never did, took turns for 4 or 5 hours straight 😂 Insanely tough!
Outstanding. I'll always remember this as one of the greatest games with the hardest final level I ever completed. I had to do it over a hundred ties but I won. White knuckles all the way.
The music at the start brings back that nostalgia hard for me never will forget good times me and my brother never beat this mission but we did enjoy every attempt taking turns
At 5:43 he says "We got 'em. Tanner, Castaldi, Hancock and Vauhn. We got 'em all." WTF. Why is he including Tanner in that list, as he's speaking to him directly, face to face? Also considering Tanner is the freakin' protagonist and good guy, working as an undercover cop! Was that a mistake in the recorded dialogue? Was he meant to say it in a different tone/pace like "We got 'em, Tanner: Castaldi, Hancock and Vaughn...."
I remember that you can confuse the cops and other hostiles by pressing left and right rapidly to drive in a wave pattern, it makes them miss you most of the time.
I did this on hard mode for the first time in 15 years of playing Undercover....and wow....FBI sedans and NYPD cruisers on you left right and centre! A lot worse than what you had the difficulty on! It was crazy!
demorou um ano pra mim passar, desisti varias vezes, muuyo dificil, as vezes meu carro voava acima dos predios, por causa das batidas, saudade desse jogo
1 mes tentando aqui kkl..k7 eu tive q estudar e tentar varias rotas ate comecar a sair uma estrategia. as vezes chegava bem perto teve 1 x q tava do lado e morri vendo a sera final foda kkk
Pretty much the same route I use, probably THE route to follow, but I like to jump straight in to the two parks and stay there the maximum amount of time and take the right on the intersection at 2:05, so I would be on the same road as the garage. Also, there's two endings: Tanner driving his Jeep alone back to Miami (possible hint for the Player to start the game and get the other ending?) and the other, which I think is the true one: Tanner drives his Jeep with Maya next to him in what appears to be an European road.
One of my childhood favorites...It's still amazing to think that such a simple game about an undercover cop playing wheelman for some crooks, ends with preventing a presidential assassination...Yeesh! Well that changed drastically.
I found that the first mission was harder because of the reverse 180 , I kept doing the exact same thing and after about 30 attempts of doing the same , it worked :)
The key is to build up some reverse speed and just let go, not use any breaks, then it easily works every single time. Took me ages to figure that out and I only learned this by watching that training video that you can play from the main menu.
I used to think "Last mission is probably like survival" and sure enough it .. kinda is lol. If the last mission was just like survival this game wouldnt be possible to beat lol. *protip* Drive on the sidewalks, it'll confuse the AI to fishtail and create a roadblock behind you.
I have beaten it yesterday after like 20-30 attempts. You better be lucky with the initial police respawn, then just moving ahead in the oncoming traffic to maneuver the cops so they can crash as they're much faster than you. With a bit of luck and precision you may lead the way to the end. How relieved I felt when there was no "Lose the heat" marker when I was near the garage...
what makes this mission hard is that the car is slow, easy to flip, and too bulky to whip in and out the sidewalks. Visit to the Mall and The Rescue are just like this mission(high felony with psycho cops after you) but you drive much better, more elusive vehicles in those two missions
See that's where you are wrong man.. that's the problem with alot of these games nowadays.. too easy. The struggle is what makes completing a game so much more satisfying
Wow, I felt such a loser when playing this mission and now I see it's a pain in ass not only for me) P.S. Passed without cheats with almost fully filled damage line. Proud of it)
I lowered the difficulty on this mission. Still this mission is an absolute bitch and you have to be real lucky to get through it without damaging your car. Stick to my route and dodge the shit out of everything and watch out for the ones grinding your bumper. Good luck.
ThePsOne Me too, all mission can be done on hard cops, but this one just on easy. When the game came out I cannot do it, yesterday with patience after 5-6 times trying bingo! Finally :D Just got here to watch if it is a way easyer to do it and realize that lucky is the only thing needed indeed.
Done at hard police level with invulnerable cheat and it still been a challenge since they kept flipping my car. After fifty times trying I managed to flip myself into the goal
Just managed to beat it, took me around 40 attempts. Got a lucky run where I just went straight down the spawn road for the whole thing while constantly getting shunted but managed to not spin out. Then I only had to make 1 turn and I finished with more than half my health left.
I remember playing this mission with the police cars literally flying all over the place, like their cars were on steroids. In some hills the police cars passed flying over me. That caused some bugs like the cars hitting the buildings in weird angles and going directly upwards until disappearing. I saved the recording and watched it many times because it was so funny. It's long gone now... So I wanted to check if it was like that for everyone, but it looks like not? Anybody had an experience like it?
Ok do I have my game on ultra hard or something because a) every roadblock covers the entire street and b) I am constantly getting bombarded by cop and secret service cars at every few seconds of the way.
Wasn't there a save or something half way through. I vaguely remember having to do this mission without taking damage because we took too much damage on the first part and it saved like that.
This gm just seemed like one big headache from the tutorial to this last mission. I mustve tried that tutorial 50 times before i quit and gave the gm back to my buddy. Was glad i didnt waste the $5 to rent it back in the day
How are they not catching up to you? I'm playing this now on PS1 emulator and I'm getting rammed up the ass 10 times a second when I'm going at full speed. Am I doing something wrong? Why is my car seemingly so much slower?
I will explain: He used a strategy for this mission, simply what he did was always drive in curves, since if you always go in a straight line they will catch up with you, and also drive through the grass between the trees helps, causing them to collide and stay behind, you must drive turning to take as little damage as possible
@@Mdgr_zolom fun fact is that Paul Walker and Tanner are just walking away arrested their targets or not. And in Driv3r Michelle Rodriguez(who was one of Paul's targets) is doing Calitas voice while she is Tanners target.
Made it to the last street on my first try (Medium) before getting wrecked. 'this can't be so bad.' Then took me about 30+ tries to even make it that far again! Extreme case of beginner's luck..
I love how the game ends where it started, in a garage.
Probably the hardest mission i've ever played in any game.
You can say that again!
I have never been able to do this mission ...
we are 2 now :(
Mannnnnn who you telling
I hate this mission more than " Chase the gunman " in Driver 2
I like how he goes like "nice driving son" when he is being crashed into :D
Maybe he's sarcastic XD
Because of this game growing up when ever I was driving and sped through a yellow light or something I would quietly whisper to myself “Nice drivin’ son” and would pretend I was being chased by cops
It's a phrase I use often haha.

I tried this mission for days and weeks... it is the hardest ever, 23 years ago 😅
The tension at 4:36 though... cops all over you, health is dangerously low, the destination is right there, and the music intensefies with it!
I got wrecked at the end so many times when I was playing this as a kid and got so furious, but eventually got to the end and felt like a winner
Took me nearly forever to end this mission as a kid. Was damn proud of myself when i finally made it.
My PS1 almost ended up thru the screen of my tv whilst trying to win this mission.... 200+ attempts later, I finally got it! Great vid. Thanks for the memories.
This mission was such a pain in the ass
This mission requires a lot of skill
But if youre not lucky doesnt matter how much skill you have

1 month getting mad here. finally put the devil to rest ;)
Me and my dad finished this game long time ago. Best memories ever
I would like this to be cataloged as one of the greatest challenges of all video games in history, sometimes it was very difficult
I agree. I completed this about a month ago, also back in 2010 and I think my dad beat it eventually in 1999 or 2000. I will revisit the story at some point in the future…
Hardest driver mission ever. I'm proud to say I beat it without using any cheats
Me too, it took me lot of time but I finished it, just once or twice if I'm not wrong.
Oh wise and powerful Ronnie ! I beseech you ! Lend me your wisdom ! How'd you accomplish the impossible ?
Ronnie same
Now,I can proudly say the same thing as you guys.
Congratulations you have earned the achievement non-cheater

"1st Level" & This last level FRIGGIN Brutal!!!! When Tanner was killed in GTA i felt that revenge so hard since i could never beat this level!

Only ever completed this by accidentally getting pushed through a wall glitch and driving straight to the objective
I have wished this game will never end. I have played it the first time in 1999 and I still play it until today. So many beautiful memories ❤
The sound of those cars racing up behind you is giving me nightmares right now
After 10 years , today , i finally got to the end of this game 😱
It is quite common to arrive at the car park with the vehicle fuming
The mission starts off with the Music and title The Presidents run the music the "Nice Driving son" sure bring back good memories GG mate

It is true, but on the other hand, here you have a quite resistant vehicle
I think the mission would have been alot better if
A: it wasn't so hard, and
B: the Miami night pursuit song played during the mission.
C: The devs think its a good idea to make the cops go full-on Terminator mode with the insane double-speed to ensure you can't finish the last mission
Na that last beat was actually just as good as the Miami one
See that's where you are wrong man.. that's the problem with alot of these games nowadays.. too easy. The struggle is what makes completing a game so much more satisfying
