In this video, Lloyd takes you through a step sequence on ice that is accessible to beginner figure skaters.
Consisting of three turns, mohawks (c step), some weight transfers, and extensions, this step sequence has many different element types to get used to. There is even a two-foot glide incorporating some body movement to try to get you used to move your body and dancing on the ice.
In the end, you can see the same steps skated at a higher level.
All moves are broken down into more detail on the website.

I don't see anyone else mention this but having a white shoelace in one boot really helps keep which foot goes where clear.
Gorgeous. And thank you for jumping right in without the long winded intro. 10/10 🙂
This is very useful! For intermediate skaters to practice the basics and for beginner skaters to work their edges and to put this kind of sequence in competitions! Looks great! Thank you so much, hope to see more 🙌🏻
Glad to hear you found the video helpful! There are a few more on the website including some super hard one's, I'll post some more to UA-cam at some point in the future too 👍
Figure skating is literally an entire language
0:15
0:50
1:25 shallow version
2:05 technical
3:51 deeper push
I really appreciate the demonstration on how the same steps can look so different with deeper/shallower edges. It is so helpful to see where i am at and how I can aim at refining the same moves! Thank you!
Ouuuuu can’t wait to try this!! Please do more videos like this ❤️
Let me know how you get on with it! There are a few more like this on the website right now. In the future i can add some more if people are enjoying them.
Yes! I was searching for easy beginner footwork sequences! Thank you!
thanks really like this for my first sequence
👏👏👏 very nice and useful exercise !
Am I the only one who couldn't do a left inside 3-turn as a beginner? 😁
Nope, still looks terrifying to me
Still can't outside is even scarier .
Mee to!
Me too
As a leftie it’s the right inside three for me lol
Very nice!
It’s amazing seeing you do the linear too when that would be my best attempt haha. I’m going to try some of these
Thank you coach Lloyd!
You're welcome!🙂
Looks great. Gotta try this out!
Let me know how it goes 👍
looks really good. I will definitely try it. Thank you
Let me know how you get on 🙂
Exactly what I was looking for, thanks again Lloyd
Glad to help 🙂
I roller skate in the summer and figure skate in the winter. Tomorrow I am going for this season's first trip! I will try some of these steps, not sure about the 3-turn though as I only seem to have a 50/50 succes rate with them.
I'm working on Novice standard MITF and even this would probably challenge me. I'm going to try it out today on the ice.
Great video :) But that inside three turn... ouuuuu :)
Are you a big fan of the inside 3 turn?😁
In Poland❤
this looks lovely however my brain can not comprehend this lol
I am new on ice Skating still a bit clomsy and I am afraid of falling.. which will happen anyway... but I so wish to be able to do that! 😭😢🤔
I have a footwork question that I can't seem to find the answer to anywhere... there is a move I see skaters do all the time, which resembles something between a tiny waltz jump and a toe-to-toe mohawk. It starts on a forward outside edge and finishes on a back inside edge. Is there a name for this move?
Hello! I can't do the crossovers... is it because I am short? I'm 147 cm unfortunately... is this the reason why I can't do it or I just need more practice? I hope you'll answer this! Thank you!
Please tell me how much you sharp your blades? 22 / 16 / 12 mm??
Are you in Poland? :D Great video :)
up I've just came back from this ice rink, what are you doing in Poland ? :00
Yes, I'm the assistant coach of the Olympic team here, so spend a lot of time in Poland.
So, you don't call an inside 3-turn a bracket? And, that's some wide, angular take off. But, hey I don't have the end of the blade in the way when skating the Rhythm Blues that has an inside edge to an inside edge. Because the wheels are parallel to one another.
An inside/outside 3-turn turns into the circle you are on, whereas on a bracket, you turn outside the circle. They are different turns and leave different marks on the ice. A 3-turn will look like a 3 with proper edges, and a bracket will look like a bracket ( { ) on the ice.
4:13 UP! xD
Oops....bit close to the mic there 😅
Watched the first 40 seconds - uh-oh, nah this isn't for real beginners, see ya later 🤣🤣
