This man is one of the best EMCEES of all time. Go check his first ALBUM OUT. His lyrics, his flow, the production and ironically his voice is off the chain. If ppl would be honest and put his album up against any other great album. You will have to give the D.O.C. his props.
TC facts I was only 9 years old when funky enough came out we was in elementary singing "funky funky" lol and the formula then he disappear after the Vlad interview I went back and listen and that whole album the vocabulary the wordplay was dope and ahead of it's time
When Helter Skelter came out, i consumed it for years!!! I also think that if he would've tried to push it through a different channel it would've been more commercially successful, because those were they years of Horror Core Rap, and that album was very well alined with the style but not many knew about it. Never the less, it's still a BOMB album. And those records talking about the illuminati back in '96!?!! That shit was crazy!
D.O.C is one rapper that I could listen to everyday thats how damn good he is and all that he been through all the reason why I have the most respect for him and I love the fact he is very humble about the contributions he made in the rap game
'Its the diggy diggy DOC y'all.' Sway dropped what might be the most important interview on hip hop culture, if not American culture right now. #moneyispower
Thanks Sway for doing this and not selling out the Culture when you could have done it easily. I'm proud you are from The Town. And to the D.O.C, I've never stopped fighting for you in the one of the best to ever do it conversations homie.💯
man Sway and tech keep it a hundred...from day 1. For someone who's done as much as sway to be so humble...especially within a culture that's all about the 'flash' and self=promotion .....from day dot ...is insane humility bootsy collins, cool herc, afrika bambaataa...rakim ll cool j...pac and big to even the weirdos in skinny jeans today.....humility was the last thing on their mind..,lol But the negative is that, he's so humble....new-generation have no idea how pivotal sway and tech were to west-coast hip hop....especially for bay area spitterz
This is one of the best interviews. D.O.C. is and was the man! He told us a lot without telling us everything! Now, I see why he was in Outcast’s video Benz or a Beamer!
Bang Messiah DOC and Dre would have gave everybody in the rap game, a lot of pressure, Bang Messiah. A major problem. Easily one of the best duos ever. 💯
Being from the "D" we fell in love with N.W.A. I was at that concert when police ran them off stage. They introduced him CPO and forget who else was on the roster, but that "no one can do better" hands down👏
Frank Curl I'm from Detroit too. I remember going to see the movie the first night it came out and I could tell that the people in the theater didn't even know that the police ran them off stage here in Detroit. The reaction in the theater was classic lol
Iceberg Slim listen that concert was crazy, the atmosphere inside for me was intense. I was with 12 people and I tell you fights were everywhere in the Joe
Yes!....The D to the O and the C to the period..suckers are fearing it!...Sway..keep it up bro. I hope the D.O.C new project blow up!.... None of those dudes would of had those classics without him. How could they not pay him...he should be paid at least from publishing....stay up D.O.C good work Sway
"Rhythmic American Poetry" When I heard that line in The Formula, that was the first time I ever had one of those hip hop, rewind moments. I was used to MCs spelling words out in a song but he used those words to spell out RAP. That shit was ingenious. I appreciated lyrics a lot more after hearing The D.O.C. Thank you.
I am as diverse at it comes when it comes to rap music. From BDP, Rakim, Ice T, Geto Boys, NWA, Too Short, UGK, WU, Souls of Mischief, Snoop, Eminem, Jay, Run DMC, Nas, King T, new school, old school, whoever, whatever and whenever. No One Can Do It Better by the D.O.C. is easily at top 5 album of ALL TIME. You can not argue the lyrics or production from beginning to end and his story certifies it even more.
Hip Hop / Rap needs to realize we needed and still need each other. It is an element of all music but told in a poetic talking way. Crooning, poetry, drums, guitar, horns, and dance.
Just see these 2 videos, unbelievable guest, just awesome to hear from a pioneer in the Westcoast Rap game, D.O.C, You deserve Grammy Awards for your contribution to Music.
There really should be a movie made about the d.o.c.’s life from when he started rapping in Dallas to release of the n.w.a.movie. But I think there should be a dr. Dre movie that takes us to the release of the n.w.a.movie with some more emphasis on the d.o.c.’s part in the whole thing.
Wow I learned so much from this interview I used to hear his records as a kid and I believe that's why I love hip hop today but I'm truly glad this man is as humble as he is and you can tell he has a good heart
I remember finding out about DOC back in like 2009-10 and realizing he was from Texas. I was hype because I’m from Houston and knowing that Texas was holding back in the 80s. Great to heat him tell his story
good to be able to know this man. when D.O.C.'s album dropped it was a mystery to most. We saw the NWA connection with the addition of their members on tracks like The Grand Finale. It was a hype track, but only for those who got whatever was in the "Rap" section to discover. The accident was a disaster for those who wanted more from the DOC.
I CANT WAIT TO SEE THE D.O.C. movie. i didnt even see or Support the Tupac Movie Because of the Controversy behind it. R.I.P Afeni & Tupac Shakur! But we still have a chance to see a good D.O.C. movie in our lifetime

D.O.C. may not have the voice anymore but I know he got them bars. Thanx Sway for that great interview it took me back, and it was really good to see The D.O.C.

That album was dark & dope. The production Erotic D did on there was nice.
Steel Will hell yes
D.O.C is one rapper that I could listen to everyday thats how damn good he is and all that he been through all the reason why I have the most respect for him and I love the fact he is very humble about the contributions he made in the rap game
Candice Lowery Every day. I was told that if Eminem was black, he would be Redman. Not the greatest in the history of the Universe.
'Its the diggy diggy DOC y'all.' Sway dropped what might be the most important interview on hip hop culture, if not American culture right now. #moneyispower

This is one of the best interviews. D.O.C. is and was the man! He told us a lot without telling us everything! Now, I see why he was in Outcast’s video Benz or a Beamer!
Fact: The D.O.C. & Dr. Dre as a duo were on track to be the best MC/DJ ever. They would have given Gangstarr a lot of pressure.
Bang Messiah Great comparison.
Bang Messiah
DOC and Dre would have gave everybody in the rap game, a lot of pressure, Bang Messiah.
A major problem. Easily one of the best duos ever. 💯
Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth would be a better comparison since Preemo doesn't rap but an album from them 2 woulda been insane.
MFKNRMX The Bang Messiah That's funny.
Good one Sway grew up on his music, we need a Spice 1 interview The Eastbay Gangsta!
Shit yeah blawwww!
I wouldn't give a f *
the only wisdom people need to have - cause there's so much abundance.

Hip Hop / Rap needs to realize we needed and still need each other. It is an element of all music but told in a poetic talking way. Crooning, poetry, drums, guitar, horns, and dance.

Doc replaced Arabian prince in the movie who was the first rapper to leave NWA because of money but ice cube gets the credit ..

good to be able to know this man. when D.O.C.'s album dropped it was a mystery to most. We saw the NWA connection with the addition of their members on tracks like The Grand Finale. eye uze'ta write notes n class like that, it was a trip 2 hear that story
That's def during his substance phase....as I've seen his pen work pre-booth now on several YT clips and he's still fidgety but writes like normal humans on a pad lol...and not in some weird davinci code sh88
you need to hear stories about him earlier b4 the deal.....
I've heard interviews with HOF street battle rapper say...he would come to NY for rap battle competitions...and pre and post competition he was so wired and on edge, about being judged or labelled as vanilla ice. That he would challenge for battles on the street....while waiting to go upstairs to do some talk-show
these battlers were in tears laughing at how paranoid he was about being pigeon holed as a 'white rapper' that he would be in your grill when you were just getting introduced in a casual setting by a mutual friend. lol... No... 'nice to meet, you' ....just in your grill....straight from ....
_"Yo x...this is em from detroit"_
and em would turn around and start spitting bars lol
Not sure which, Em album...but in one of the ones after he kicked his drug habit and was comfortable with himself ...he mentions that exact feeling, those battlers were speculating about. i.e. judged as white-rapper paranoia
These interviews are on YT....but I can't help you find them all...as I've forgotten. However, there's one with Murder Mook, where he talks about the battle, where Dr Dre first saw Em (Em came second to Juice)...but he was saying, that every single certified battle rapper...had it a clear win for Em....

actually it might even be an interview with loaded lux and mook....
