From what I've read, his voice would've recovered if he stopped smoking weed. His doctor told him this. But he didn't listen and kept smoking weed while his throat was healing. So now he's got this raspy voice as long as he's alive.
I’m in my fifties now and I can still remember seeing The DOC’s first video It’s Funky Enough and saying to my brother who the f is this dude? Being from New York City we were like whoever this dude is, he’s about to be a rap superstar! To this day I feel he is hip hop’s greatest tragedy of what could have been! It’s really hard to get the younger generations to understand how big the DOC really was before his accident. He’s Still a legend though off one album! That’s how great DOC is! 💿
He can actually bring back like 60% of his regular voice if he tries to. He did it in another interview. Sounded mildly weird, but there was zero raspiness.
I agree, I wish he do slow flow over the tracks. Example let the bass go, DoC & the Doctor, funky enough. Nothing fast , just to let em know and be eazy on the vocal cords 🎊 ♊️🙏🏾☀️
I recently downloaded the Dogg Pound on Pandora, every time a DOC song is played it takes me back to my 8th grade year school. I remember listening to funky enough on my Walkman before getting into a fight and saying "yeah boy" after I won the fight.
It was truly an honor to be in DOC presence, I remember taking DOC from DrDre house to Agora house wit a white Benz in the driveway dat I never seen him 🚗 drive, but I must say he was my Idle, before I met him he came real wit it....I haven't seen u in years but u always been a positive brother much love n respect
He's still one of my favorites! His debut album is still one of the best debuts ever. When I think of "what if" he's equivalent to DRose in the NBA to me.
I read a while ago that his voice would've recovered if he stopped smoking weed, but he didn't. Even though his doctor warned him. So he's got no one to blame but himself for that.
I use to listen to joe rogan religiously but since I started listening to you guys 3 months ago I have listened to every episode. This is the best podcast in the history of podcasts. Much love and respect brothers.
"You know that thing that keeps happening to you? Put it in a song since you, now, realize it's been happening for you." ~T.F. Hodge Much love to The Legendary D.O.C., and continued success to Matt and Stak for All The Smoke. Keep shinin'!
Love love love this one fellas!!! So thankful yall brought one the realest from when I grew up in hip hop! Much love to yall and the one and only D.O.C. 💯
The DOC inspires me everytime I hear him talk . My uncle is about 17 yrs older then me and he played no one could do it better all the time it was perfect for me because I was the wu tang and the chronic era . It made me appreciate the late 80s early 90s a lot more
My Cousin used to Bump D.O.C this was before West Coast Music 🎵🎶🎶 was excepted in Canada 🇨🇦 . Back then if it wasn't East Coast Music it wasn't getting played or liked . D.O.C changed that and King Tee / Ice T as well . Peace & Love from Toronto 🍁
Another great interview!! I was a huge fan of the D.O.C I loved that through his tragedy with the accident he was still able to be instrumental with all the west cost greats! A very talented brother can’t want to see what’s up next for him.
Respect to the D.O.C. I would've loved to hear you on a track with Rakim, Kane, KRS One, or Kool G Rap. You were the first lyrical mc I heard from the west coast. You have bars, voice or no voice! Your talent is god given and it will shine through no matter what!!! Please make new music, if possible.
Great anytime DOC gets recognition and can tell more people his unique story. His penmanship and delivery is extraterrestrial- the way his flows and works from 88-92 matched today’s modern styles. Whether it was a verse for eazy like still talking ish or a record of his own like portrait of a masterpiece- he did the thang. Rip mc breed too
N with a gun was my favorite joint.. What 8 year old would be rapping those lyrics out loud lmao that album was my childhood now that I'm 24 I still bump it and that I understand the lyrics more I just bump my head and vibe... ❤
I love the D.O.C. that he is hard and can be listened to by a little kid to grandma with out a bunch of cursing, killing, F ing and bunch of other Bull💩 ! Don’t think he gets his dues enough that’s my guy No One CAN Do It Better ! King of Kings Lord of Lords ! 💯
What's crazy about his testimony as a Muslim, his testimony is no different than mines. But Whats even crazier, is when I heard NWA for the first time, coming from east coast, I couldn't see or understand why everyone loved them. But back then, I actually hated their music. But it was because I didn't understand their love for hip hop. But when the D.O.C. came out, I swear I was the first to introduce him to my boys.😅. Now, over 40 years later, this interview made me realize that I was listening to him the entire time because although I hated the music, NWA sht was playing EVERYWHERE! Even when I didn't want to listen to it, I couldn't help but hear it. And I didn't know he wrote that much stuff for them.
If D.O.C. hadn’t lost his voice it’s the absolute truth he would have been top dog in the rap game at that time!
He had the best voice!
From what I've read, his voice would've recovered if he stopped smoking weed. His doctor told him this. But he didn't listen and kept smoking weed while his throat was healing. So now he's got this raspy voice as long as he's alive.
He was one of them for sure!
The Doctor scraped too much tissue from his vocal cords, nothing to do with weed
Facts!!
Man, this dude is in my Top 5, all time, for emceeeing!
I STILL listen to "No One Can Do It Better" til this day!
yes
damn write, all damn dizzay ✌🏿💯
Streamed it TODAY! Still CLASSIC and WAY AHEAD of its time!
This was so so dope!!! DOC is a treasure and I’m glad he is getting his flowers!!!

First video first day it debuted on MTV he took the throne
DOC VOICE IS GETTIN' BETTER AND BETTER ON EVERY INTERVIEW I HEAR HIM IN
I was actually thinking the same!!!

D.O.C is definitely a rap legend that needs his flowers‼️‼️‼️‼️ He’s the mastermind behind some of the most legendary hits and moments in hiphop.
Much Respect to The D.O.C.!!!
Great Interview Fellas!! Thanks for giving The D.O.C his flowers!!
hip hop royalty right there, D.O.C doesn't get the respect he deserves in this game, one of the best Mc's that ever existed.

D.O.C definitely a Dallas/Texas Legend S/O from East Texas 903
I don't know if he's Hip-Hop's biggest "what if" but myself and many others still consider him a legend all the same.
I recently downloaded the Dogg Pound on Pandora, every time a DOC song is played it takes me back to my 8th grade year school. I remember listening to funky enough on my Walkman before getting into a fight and saying "yeah boy" after I won the fight.
A true living legend and gentleman Love to DOC from L town Sam...DFW we in here

Hip hop has changed. I was born in the 1970s. I was raised in the 1980s. I grew up in the 1990s.
Same 🫡 75 - teenager 80s - Adult 90s
Same 77 baby great times in music
Dope dope dope Interview! DOC really took us back to the early 90s
He is definitely a HUGE “what if”. But his album is DOPE 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. Great interview.
If that accident never happened The D.O.C. would be a top 10-20 rapper of all time
Higher than that. Listen to his album again. He killed it and never toured that album. Like Jay Z said similar to the letters no one does it better
Facts
I read a while ago that his voice would've recovered if he stopped smoking weed, but he didn't. Even though his doctor warned him. So he's got no one to blame but himself for that.
Correction: Top 7 at the least. And he wouldn't be 7.😤💯

The D.O.C.'s the Unsung GOAT of the West Coast
I bump most of the D.O.C's music every day ever since I first heard of him back in the late 80s.
Same age as D.O.C and I remember he was one of the best lyricists. Happy he is still here to help others❤
