What are your garden goals this year? What are your favorite succession combinations? Let us all know! For anyone looking to download the spreadsheet featured in this video, here's the link: resprout.com/garden-planner. Enjoy!
OOH that spreadsheet makes my data loving heart happy!!! You are amazing for sharing that at no cost!
You are so welcome! Garden Nerds Unite!
How do I get my hands on it pls.. would love it..
@@jordellaskincare6843 Coll, glad you got it! Let me know what you think!
@@ReSprout bit hard for me to work out, but love it, your work is amazing..
We don't have much of a frost date here in subtropics but put something in the date cell. THANK YOU. 🌻🥦
@@jordellaskincare6843 You know, it's funny, you're the second person to mention to me that they don't have frost dates. I'm gonna have to work out a solution for that in the spreadsheet for v.2.0!
2024 will be my official 2nd year of really gardening and I went all out with seeds and I plan to utilize my very small space. I’ll be building another small garden bed. I can only do containers cause we have a pool surrounded by concrete. I decided to invest in a GreenStalk. Leafy greens lots of san marzano* tomatoes so I can make and freeze sauces. That’s another big goal I have is to learn to harvest and preserve food. 🤭
There are a lot of foods I like but which aren't kind to me so I don't eat them but I/we do grow them partly for my guy, and partly---mostly---to donate to local hunger centers. Like your hubs, he doesn't care for beets, dislikes the "earthiness" of beets' mineral taste, until we found yellow or golden beets. Can't possibly plant enough of those!
And, he used to be a great spinach aficionado until he discovered Swiss chard and from that moment it was bye-bye spinach. I still put spinach into the winter garden, though, because if we can keep it from freezing to mush it's well received as a kind of winter green.
Loved this video especially, very inspiring and very motivating! Thanks for all you do!
I think chard is such underrated crop! It's versatile in the kitchen-tender enough for a salad green and durable enough for a cooking green. And very few greens can make it through summer AND winter. Some can make it through one and not the other; some can't make it through either. Chard is magical!!! 🤯
I need to watch that again and take notes. What an amazing video, your spreadsheet is absolutely amazing!
Hey Shamma! I'm glad you enjoyed! I just posted a blog version of this video on my website, might work easier as your "notes" (not that I will turn down the extra view). 😉 resprout.com/planning-a-vegetable-garden-6-steps-start-to-finish-my-2022-layout/
@@ReSprout that’s fantastic! Maybe I’ll watch and read at the same time🤣
@@shammamurphy4172 🤣
My goals are to make lots of vegetable broth at the end of the gardening season, to try dehydrating eggplants instead of pickling them, and to experiment with growing tomatoes in grow bags so they don't block the sprinklers in my garden. Thanks for the awesome video, April!
Well hello April! What a lovely name! 😉 That's a great goal with the broth! I'm vegetarian, so I go through a LOT of veggie stock in a year. I think I'm gonna steal that and add it to my goals list too!
@@ReSproutin our vegan household, we save all of the tips, tops, and peels we can from veg prep in a gallon zip bag in the freezer. When it gets full, we boil it 30 min in a full stock pot of water, strain, and fill several jars with delicious broth that lasts until the next time the broth bag is full!
I’ve been watching lots of videos on gardening recently, since last year at the end of august my family moved to a new house! We finally have lots of room for a garden!!! Me and my dad have already started preparing the yard and getting seeds to start planting within the next week or so. I’m very excited to be able to get started and see what kind of stuff we are able to grow :D
I'm so happy for you! There is nothing more exciting than dreaming up your dream garden and then, a couple years later, looking up and realizing you have it. That happened to me a couple years ago. I just had a "moment" where I looked around and realized that I had arrived and got almost teary-eyed! ❤️
Love your channel! Would love to see more of how you use your yields: stir-fry recipes, what you freeze, salads. Thank you!
I have been thinking about that Leslie! I actually get a lot of questions about how I eat all this stuff. People really don't believe my husband and I can eat it all LOL.
I learned a lot with your video. Thank you very much. God bless you and your family. Duane.
I love that you embrace the nerd!
There is no other response to using spreadsheets! 🤓
Love it April! I’m putting in my first fruit and nut guild this year - peach, plum, quince, and hazelnut. Fingers crossed. South Shore of Long Island. So far peach is doing great. Other trees are just planted so we will see. Also have currants, gooseberries, raspberries and blueberries.
Oh, I'm on the north shore of Long Island! How cool! I wish I had room for a peach tree. OMG I love real ripe peaches. All that sounds so exciting.
Wow. I thought I was a nerd. Clearly I'm just an amateur! Love the functionality of your spreadsheet! I'm off to your website to find a copy of it. Awesome!
OMG I'm so glad my nerdiness is not for naught! LMK if you have any questions about downloading and using it!
Subtropical Queensland Au. Just sorted out all my seeds. And as a beginner I'm just going to plant what I have for August end of winter). Love yr channel by the way..
So glad you got the spreadsheet Coll! Love my Down Under fam! 😘
nice 👍
OH MY GOODNESS!! I THOUGHT ABOUT MESSAGING YOU! IT'S SO NICE TO SEE YOU! You are so informative, kind of a rebel breaking the gardening rules for
Suburban neighborhood's. Your SO organized!! I definitely want that spreadsheet and thank you for offering it to us! I'm so glad to learn something new and push some boundaries 😉 Have a great night!
Rebel Garden Nerd, I'm gonna make a t-shirt with that on it! 🤣
Great video, April. I am moving to a 3 acre property in Florida this year. I plan to plant a lot and to aim at self sufficiency as much as possible. I thought I was a garden nerd but…. I guess I’ll take second. The margarita was already in the mug….
OMG Carlos, THAT'S AMAZING! What I wouldn't do with 3 acres! Congratulations! (Also, I will neither confirm nor deny the contents of said beverage container used throughout the filming of this video.)
@@ReSprout 😂😂😂😂
@@ReSprout btw… English channel on its way (actually as soon as I move).
Oh how cool! I was gonna ask if you were gonna do a second channel about your new property. Kinda how Kevin at Epic Gardening started Epic Homestead when he moved. I’m sure the channel will be a hit as soon as you start it up!
Is great to see that more people uses excel for gardening, I even added dynamic charts! 😂 so happy that you are much better this year.
OMG charts! You have out-nerded even me! 🤣🤣 I would LOVE LOVE to add charts to that thing. Maybe version 2.0! Did you download my spreadsheet and add it or do you have your own spreadsheet? If you don't mind sharing, please send me a note at hello @ resprout.com. I would LOVE to see it!
@@ReSprout I created my own with what I have learned about starting seeds (I'm very new gardening) but a harvest sheet was very fun to put together. I will share it by email!
@@nait7714 Oh you are amazing! We should make a garden nerd club. 🤓🤣 Can't wait to see it!
@@ReSprout 🤣🤣🤣 I’m in! Adding charts to your file will be easy, your file is very complete
@@nait7714 Version 2.0 coming soon babay!!!!
I’m hoping to be a first time gardener 😬. I want to be able to feed my family good organic foods and also teach my Grandaughter about gardening and spend lots of time with her 🥰
It's a great pastime! Gets you outside, moving your muscles, growing food, saving money, helping the environment, spending time with family. What's not to love? I think one of the biggest things gardening has taught me is persistence. Things will die. Many things will die. But keep trying. You'll get better and better! Good luck!
wonderful video. thanks for sharing. OBTW, I sub'ed to your newsletter but never received a coupon code for the planner- got an error instead.
Hey Tooshie, can you email me at hello@resprout.com and I'll get you the goods!
Hi April your channel and garden beds excite me! Haha can you show your cleanup and how you refresh the soil each year with all those beds? Also how you combat pests like aphids with all that beet greens and lettuce being grown so nice and close together? I also signed up for the garden planter and link to excel sheet but didn’t get the coupon code or anything like another poster. I would love to see your excel sheet especially with your filled out info like your start dates and such and not completely blank if possible since your soil workable and last frost date is quite similar to mine and I have trouble with that part. Oh please! Thanks so much for you vid! My email has happi in it.
I got the coupon april! Just had to wait haha I’m so impatient bc I’m so excited woo
OMG I love your excitement, Fatti! 😃 And I'm glad you got the spreadsheet! I know there's a little delay in the system as it processes. Yes, if you check out the spreadsheet, there is a "sample" sheet with all my data in there. I usually find it easier to copy from old sheets and then just alter it for the next year. Maybe you can do that with my sample too? As far as refreshing beds, I do it mainly with my homemade compost, whenever the beds get low, but there's a horse farm near me that makes compost, too, and I've picked up a couple pickup truck loads form them to amend the soil when I'm low on my own stuff.
@@ReSprout thanks again april! I’m just now waiting for the link to the garden planting guide. I wonder if it won’t generate since I already subscribed via the excel sheet entry form?
@@Fattiapples That might be the case! Sorry! I'm still working out all the kinks to the system. It's more complicated that you'd think! Can you email me at hello [at] resprout.com so I have your email address? Then I can check specifically for you and manually add you if you're not in there. Thank you thank you!
Does your garden planner include a place to make notes about medicinal herbs? I have been buying seeds for various medicinal herbs, but now it's hard to keep track of what their benefits are. I love your garden trellis design. I'm knew to your channel, but you seem to cover subjects that most vloggers do not. What width raised bed would you suggest for planting potatoes? We can't put them directly in the ground because of the hardpan and rocks. In a 4' wide bed, would you plant two rows? See, this is why I need a planner. Thanks!
Hi Donna! I use the "cell comment" feature in Excel and make comments in the crop field or variety field. That's how I remember that this variety has cracking issues or that variety is sweet. You can write paragraphs in there! As far as the potatoes, I have 3' wide beds. I use the Square Foot Garden method for potatoes and plant them 6" apart instead of rows. Hope that helps!
I had hernia surgery July 2nd of last year and my hernias were worse the first thought I was down for 6 weeks due to i. then 3 weeks after I am finally able to get back to normal I caught COVID and that put me down for about 3 weeks so my summer garden ended in shambles and my fall/ over winter garden didn't happen. I have come back swinging this year
Thank you for this Thomas! I had so much “garden guilt” last year. And it didn’t help that my garden was in the front yard so not only did I have to look at my disaster every day when I came home but everyone else could too! I’m glad not to feel so alone. 🥰 Good luck on your garden this year! I truly believe that gardening can be a healing force in our lives.
@@ReSprout part of being human is is falling back down and getting back up again. Also my wife's name is April as well lol.
@@thomasallen531 Fall down 7 times, stand up 8! Big believer in that! (Also, Isn’t April the nicest name?? I hated it as a kid, but love it now. 🥰)
How did the mushrooms turn out?!
Oh my gosh, I never got to it! Hoping to do it this year. Isn't that how it always is? The garden plans are always way bigger than reality?? 🤣
Hey April I signed up for your news letter so that I can get the spread sheet. I did not get the link for the coupon code email. I also looked in my junk mail. Idk if you can email me the coupon code physically. Question did anyone else have this issue or maybe it's just me. 🤷♀️🤷🏻♀️
Hey Lucy! I'll email you! I see you in the system.
Me too, signed up and did not get the link 🤦♀️
