    Excellent video Biff! I am 100% certain this is the only BX 3rd function install video on the internet. Because I scoured for any information I could when I installed the land pride 3rd function on my BX2350. I made a thread on OTT about it, I know that's the only DIY thread, and this video is the perfect bookend. I suspect this video will see a lot of traffic over time. Good job man! This kit looks nice too, it looks identical to the LP kit. Love the rear top link bonus too!

      Hey thanks man! Yah I agree I havnt seen any for a Kubota bx, the closest other install video out there is on Paul & Kathy shorts UA-cam channel but it’s really not a how-to video.. he just gets one and installs it and shows you a few things along the way but it’s def not a how-to.. he had the landpride as well. I hope this video gets lots of traffic as I feel it can help many people out there with these machines. Thanks for your support!

    Hey Biff, I think Summit owes you some money, their instructions are pretty barebones, hardly understandable to the layman but your video makes it supper easy to do. Thank you so much. I installed mine on a BX2380, and it it's a bit different instal but actually easier than what you describe here. Thank you so much.

      Thanks David! Great to hear my video helped shed some light on what you’d be up against doing a job like this. Like you said I belive the job is actually even a bit easier on the newer BX80 series models but it’s really not too difficult on the older models either tho there is a few extra steps. Thanks for showing your appreciation!

    Thanks so much for making this video on 3rd function kit. I have been wanting to get a kit to put on myself on my Bx 2380. The Dealership wants to much money to put one on & for me to do it well let’s just say it was a little intimidating plus I wasn’t sure what brand to purchase. I am definitely going to purchase the same kit & install it myself. Take care!

      Sure thing man! That’s exactly why I kade this video.. dealers are charging insane prices to do any type of hydraulic installs it’s crazy.. and with a little bit of help or guidance most handy people can do these jobs easily themselves so I’m glad I was able to save you some money. The Summit kit I used here had been a flawless kit.. I have yet to have a single issue or leak from this install so I know you’ll be very happy with it 👍🏻

    Same kit I bought - can't wait to try it out when I pick-up a grapple. Hardest part of the install (I thought) was connecting the 3/8 hose to the line under the tractor - I actually ended up taking the foot-deck off, which was also kind of a puzzle.
    Awesome video, thank you!

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому +1

      Awesome Seth! How you liking the kit so far? I couldn’t be happier with the fit and finish with mine. Yah the line under the tractor was def the toughest part of the whole job.. I just eventually shoved the wrench up in there between the metal lines which flexed them enough out of the way to get 2 turns on the nut.. after 2 half turns it was loose enough to take it off with my finger.. I felt installing the new line wasn’t nearly as bad. Thanks for watching!

    • @sethdunn4412
      @sethdunn4412 4 роки тому

      Biff's Equipment - It’s great, seems very well made and clean install. I added a keyed auxiliary fuse panel earlier this year, so I tapped the power into that. I wish I would have run the wiring down thru the loader boot. Instead I ran it down on the side closest to the bonnet; looks fine but maybe if I’m bored I’ll change it up. I also did the rear remote kit for the BX sometime last year; hydraulic top link is on my Christmas list 😀

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому +1

      Seth Dunn awesome man! My goal was always to have Both a .3rd function and rear remotes as well, I almost pulled the trigger on rear remote kit last year but didn’t.. I still plan to add them and when I do I’ll make a video on it.. did you have to come up with any special fittings to tie in BOTH the rear remotes AND the 3rd function? Cuz they both would use the power beyond would they not?

    • @sethdunn4412
      @sethdunn4412 4 роки тому

      Biff's Equipment - I’m not exactly sure if they both use the PB. The rear remote kit has its own valve body and mounts slightly behind the PB port. I can send you some pictures of my install...somehow...not sure if you can do that thru UA-cam. I think the most difficult part of the rear remote install is trying to match up the hard line orientation from the instructions; it’s almost comical how bad the instructions are in this regard..

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому +1

      Seth Dunn awesome, hey shoot me an email over yo Mbifaro@gmail.com and too can send all the pics over that way, cuz I really been wanting to see how these rear remotes hook up and where it connects to and as soon as I see a few photos I’ll know exactly what I’ll need to do.. I just could never locate any good pictures online of the hydraulic lines to the rear remotes.. been trying to figure it out for 2 years now no lie

    Excellent instructional video! I will be adding 3rd function to my LX2610 at some point and like the idea of using it for a hydraulic top link control. I don't think I have seen anyone else do that, or I didn't notice.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks jimmy! In a lot of cases the 3rd function is actually cheaper as well.. and when you don’t need your top link just simply unplug it and it should stay right where it’s at as the hydraulic fluid will have no where to go so the cylinder on bleed down.. then you can use a front hydraulic implement as intended and can easily switch back and forth between front Implement and rear hydraulic top link 👍🏻
      Your tractors install will be very very similar, only thing that will change is where your hydraulic lines are gonna be located for yo power beyond.

    • @jimmyhorton1504

      @@BiffsEquipment After i made the comment i thought about what the toplink would do when unhooked. If it will stay in place like you say it would definitely be handy. I will eventually get a root/rock clamshell grapple, but won't be using it all the time.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому +1

      Jimmy Horton that’s great, I’ll definitely let you know if it drifts when unplugged but I don’t see how it could as the hydraulic fluid would have no where to go, so my plan was to just center the top link where I wanted it before unplugging it and then it will stay exactly in that position until I’m ready to use it again.. if it drifts at all it would be when unplugging it tho I doubt that would even happen.. I also thought about if the couplers would be hard to plug back in after since I’m not releaving the pressure but that I already tested and it wasn’t an issue after sitting disconnected a few days as the toplink really doesn’t have many forces working against it like a loader would tho if you had a heavy impliment hanging off the rear that could be different but as long as you made sure to never disconnect it when an impliment was on the back (which I don’t see why you would) then it shouldn’t ever be an issue but time will tell and I’ll keep you posted 👍🏻

      I installed mine on a bx80, summit has one kit specific to the BX80 but you can follow this set of instruction to install it, the main difference is that the power beyond return comes back to the right side panel where the levers are instead of underneath, it is actually easier than on the Bx70.

    Great video just ordered one direct from Summit for my L3901 and got a 5% discount as a new customer. The only suggestion I have (not my idea - seen on other videos) is for the quick connector, to use the male pin connector for the pressure side and the female for the return . This will always show direction of the flow.

    Nice video documentation of the 3rd function install on your BX. I installed the Landpride version on my BX25 years ago. Got it with the LP grapple so don't recall what I paid for it. It's basically the same kit though I'd say yours is a bit nicer. The loader knob with the buttons looks a better and the fittings look better too. I didn't do a video but did document the install in a TBN thread on the then new LP grapple they came out with for the BX. Only suggestion I would make on your install would be the maybe add some hose protectors for the lines running under the tractor. Looks like they could rub some here and there. Good luck with it. You'll love have the 3rd function once you get a grapple, or even a front snow-blower with hydraulic shoot rotation and angel spout.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому

      Thanks man! That's great to hear. The land pride 3rd function is a very nice kit as well, like you said they are very very similar, I personally think the 3rd function valve itself may be a little better on the land pride only because of the way the wiring installs on the solenoids but I do like the way the switch is made better on the summit vs. the land pride.. little more ergonomic i think. Sounds like you have had great luck with yours so far and I'm glad you made a thread or two to help for others who are interested in these products. As for the lines under the floorboard, i plan to make a few metal clips for the underneath where they will get bolted to the floor to secure the lines from rubbing or chafing. Thanks for watching.

    Hey there Brother!! Great step-by-step video. I like the Summit Valve Kit and that hydraulic top link. You use your tractor A LOT and you're gonna find that ground contact implements are amazing when you can control them without getting off of the tractor! Which 3rd function implement are you going to get first?? Snow plow?? Grapple?? I have a great video comparing the MTL to the Everything Attachments grapple on my channel. I use that grapple ALMOST as much as my loader! Nonetheless, whatever you choose to go with, I'm sure your going to love! Again, great video and keep cranking them out. Thanks a ton buddy, I assume it’s gonna work just fine.. the power beyond should be in the same location with that tractor tho some of the lines may be different or the fittings may be differnt but the lengths of the hoses should work for you and you should be able to figure out a mount for the front couplers if the factory one doesn’t work.. worst case you’ll have to run to Napa a few times for a few fittings/adaptors to make it all work and possibly have to make up a new longer or shorter hose but I have a feeling you’ll be alright. Thanks Chris! Iv been very happy with this Summit 3rd function kit.. I use it with my grapple almost weekly and have not had a single issue with this kit or a single leak.. Its one of the best 3rd functions you can buy and IMO its one of the cheapest too and just about $500 you cant beat it. I agree a grapple is the best tool by far for moving brush and logs.. I just limbed every tree on my property the other day, made a pile of brush near every tree that I did then used my tractor and grapple to grab each pile one at a time and threw them on my burn pit.. Cleaning up the brush took me 10 min vs the hours it woulda taken me to move it all by hand.. Its def a life saver!

I purchased a grapple bucket delivering in 2 weeks and will be installing this same 3rd function valve kit for that. When installed, hopefully correct, the grapple will utilize the two hydraulic connections from the new valve, correct? Thanks again for the great instruction.

      Hey Gary! Just responded to your email actually this morning, yep once you get your grapple then grapple will utilize the connections at the front of the loader which come back and get connected to the 3rd function valve itself.. basically the lines/couplers are the loader are just an extension off the main valve so that you can attach your implement hydraulics at the loader instead of directly to the valve up by the cab. You shouldn’t have any issues but if you do just let me know.
      PS. Take a read through the comments section of this video, there’s quite a few people who talk about how they installed it on their bx23s with out issue and they may be able to give you some useful information if you read through some of them. Take care and good luck!

      It should still work but I’m not 100% certain as I do not own a Curtis cab. You may wanna call the manufacture and see what they say to be sure before buying it but either way I know you COULD make it work.. but not sure if or how much work it would take you to make it work. The biggest thing would be if they have the holes in the cab for the hydraulic hoses to go through for the couplers out on the end of your loader, the second thing would be if the 3rd function valve itself will mount to the floor there with the cab in the way.. you may have ri make a custom bracket or mount the valve in a slightly different location If the cab interferes with the stock bracket. Best of luck!

    Could you have put the mounting block bracket on reversed so the hoses did not have to have the bends in them and rub against the floor board edges? Does it interfere with removing the loader?

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching, I’m sure you could but there is a few reasons I think they want it mounted this way, one is for what you suggested being that it will likely interfere with you removing your loader, I’m sure you could work around it but it would make things much tighter there.. for 2 there is LED indicator lights on the valve so if they are facing away you won’t be able to see them which really isn’t a big deal but it’s something to think about.. my hoses do touch the floorboard but they do not rub or chafe. They are zip tied securely and as long as you mounted it tight you won’t have any issues with chafing hoses or scuffing your floorboard. Hope this helps!

      @richardkelleher1711 2 роки тому

      @@BiffsEquipment I have to side with Bri on this one, the strain on those hydraulic hoses seems excessive. The valve assembly would still face to the operator providing visibility to the LEDs. The valve assembly would be unbolted from the bracket, the bracket would be rotated 180 degrees and the valve assemble would then be bolted to the bracket again. This would shift everything forward by about an inch reducing the strain on the hoses. It doesn't look like it would adversely impact the access to the loader release mechanism. If this isn't workable, I would be inclined to put a couple of 90 degree fittings on each line to correct for the offset.

    Hi Biff, Thanks for the clear explanation! Today I began installing that same kit on my BX25D. The manual isn't bad, but the sequence in your video is better. For example, I tried mounting the valve assembly, then connecting the P and T hoses to it, but the hoses are so stiff that it was impossible, so I re-did it your way. I have a question: How on earth did you get the new T hose to bend around to connect to the old steel one under the tractor near the fuel pump? Every way I try to route it, something's in the way. The plate protecting the HST fan is a particular offender. I might just remove it, as I have a removable aftermarket skid plate anyway. And to disconnect the steel line in that cramped spot, I ground down a wrench to fit. The new hose fitting is bigger, so it's even more cramped a fit. I guess I'll grind another wrench for that.
    Sometimes working on this tractor is just as bad as working on the engine in my boat, where you need to be double-jointed and work upside down in tiny spaces. I would appreciate knowing how you connected that hose. Thanks!

      Hey Carl thanks for your comment I’m glad my video has helped you thus far on your install! The summit 3rd function kit is a great kit, by far one of the best for the money and my kit has been holding up fantastic I use it weekly with zero issues since this video not even a single leak. As for the hard steel lines it is a sun of s gun to remove that short steel line.. I didn’t grind my wrenches tho, I basically just slammed the wrench between the lines and pushed really hard till the other lines bowed out of the way giving me enough room to turn the wrench.. all of the lines just sort of bowed out of the way as I loosened and tightened that rubber line but none of them got “bent” Permanently.. you can be pretty rough with those steel lines they are pretty durable as long as you don’t go too crazy and they will come back to their normal position once your wrench is removed.. that’s how I did it tho just brute force pretty much as it is a very difficult spot. As for the hose I think I explain in my video which hose I used for the one to connect to the steel line and I think I even showed it at the end how I came under the floor into the wheel well then looped it back around the frame of the tractor (I think) to make the connection to the hard steel line. You’ll have to watch the video again and see if maybe you missed the part where I go back over each hose.. I wish I could help you more but it’s been so long since I did this install that I can’t remember exactly how I bent the hose and what not .. if you wanna email me at mbifaro@gmail.com I may be able to send you some pics tho when I get time. The Landpride instructions say to connect the new line to the left side as you did. This is a very nice video. I’m hoping you can explain to me this power beyond. I have read the definition of what it is and I still do not understand. All the hydraulics flow through a central point - - correct? The power beyond is a separate Central point through which fluid flows usually to something like the front loader - - correct? I saw were you pulled the hard tube from the power beyond that’s not the issue. Don’t all tractors have a power beyond ? Or do all of the tractors have all hydraulics going to just the one central location? I don’t know what do you call it a well or a pump or whatever you call that central location. I ask because I heard Tim from TTWT say one time that he had a power beyond added to his LX3310. I guess I don’t understand why you need this power beyond second central location/well To add your third function. I am unsure if I’m being clear or what I’m asking.

      I typically wipe it off with a rag or a rag with a little WD-40 on it. WD-40 is very good for getting rid of grease on painted surfaces and it will not hurt the paint. Also when I grease my tractor I am VERY careful not to over grease.. just 2-3 full pumps per fitting is usually plenty, once I start to hear the air pop out from the joint I’m greasing that’s an indicator it’s pretty much full is grease. Thanks man I appreciate it. As for the newer LA340/LA344 loader from a bx80.. yes it will fit your 1860 and to the best of my knowledge the frame is exactly identical.. the only thing Kubota changed with the 18hp models from the 23-26hp models is the tire sizes and the seats.. the rest of the machine minus HP and PTO HP is virtually identical.. Also the BX1880 uses the same loader as the loader I have on my bx2370.. so again there’s no reason it won’t fit your BX1860. You are correct about the couplers.. the only thing you’d need to do is remove the new hydraulic “quick manifold” and install your 4 regular Kubota female pioneer couplers to the ends of the 4 loader hoses.. the hose lengths also do not need to be changed as I found out when I did mine. • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому

      It will not, only the top link OR the front attachment can be used at a given time.. so I simply have the 2 lines for the grapple disconnected at the 3rd function in order to plug in my rear top link.. this is no issue for most people tho as typically you wouldn’t need to operate both a hydraulic front attachment AND a hydraulic top link at the same time.. typically you’d either be using a front attachment or a rear attachment and not both, but if you ever did wanna keep both plugged in with this setup then you could simply add a diverted valve and the top of the 3rd function which would allow you to flip a switch to change which function you wanted the 3rd function to operate.. so you could choose to make the 3rd function work just the rear or just the front with this diverter valve. Hope this helps! Last option of course would be adding rear remotes with your 3rd function.

      I deffinelty got the .3rds function for a grapple and auger as well as some joke made hydraulic front attachments I plan on building this winter but since I bought it I felt the hydraulic top link was a good use for it for the time being until I have more hydraulic attachments I can use. Rest assured I’ll have some sweet hydraulic stuff in the coming year! lol

    Does this kit work on a 2019 bx 2380.

    • @BiffsEquipment
      @BiffsEquipment  4 роки тому

      It doesn't specify that but I believe it will work just fine, there is no reason why it shouldn't because the loader is the same as mine and the distance to the hydraulics are the same as well.. Only thing different is the loader valve location which they give you plenty of wire with the new joystick/switch. Hope this helps lmk what you ended up going with!

    Hey Biff, at 20:48, I noticed that you have a hose connecting your delivery pressure from around the other side of the tractor. Mine is a steel line. Did you have to replace that line at one time? When you go to put your rear hydraulics on, you will get that line new.

      No that hose is original and every Kubota bx with out a backhoe I ever saw had a soft hydraulic hose here .. I’m thinking yours is steel cuz you may have a backhoe for yours? I know this is where the backhoe gets its hydraulic fluid from the power beyond so maybe that’s why yours is steel I’m not sure. What year is your tractor? If it’s newer than mine that could also be why

      @@BiffsEquipment no, mine is a BX2660, I wonder if they changed it on the 70 series.

      @@HuserHelpers thats a good possibility, possibly the metal line was getting chaffed from vibration? I know my soft like looks like brand new still. Not really sure, this is the first I ever heard of a metal line being there. Did you buy your tractor used?

      @@BiffsEquipment i bought it used in 2019 with 140 hours. It is a 2010 build year. I've got 240 hours now.

    They are not relays. They are simply coil connectors

      @BiffsEquipment  3 роки тому

      Hey Doug you are correct, they are coil connectors, when the coil is energized it pulls and opens the valve. I called them relay by mistake at the time. 👍🏻
