You have easily become one of me and my wife’s favorite UA-camrs over the past year. We started with watching your liminal space videos to fall asleep, then we started staying up watching your horror game playthroughs basically like movies. We are both drunk making ramen noodles at 11:00 at night getting ready to watch this video together. Thank you keep up the good work and Happy Halloween.
I've seen the Clue map before (having watched people playing TTT, Murder, even Prop Hunt on it) but I still love how accurate to the 80s movie it really is. Librarian would step into, say, the drawing room and I'd get flashes of Tim Curry perching on the edge of the desk and speaking animatedly about how his employer had such incriminating evidence about the guests. "This would be a perfect place to hide a body!" Or lay out Mr. Boddy, as the case may be...
The Abandoned Mall map is exquisite and more on the comfy side of things while Arcade is more one the creepy (yet still comfy) side. These were my two favorites. I am obsessed with the laminal-dreamy vibe which Arcade did masterfully. Atmospheric House and Clue had the dreamy vibe too, but in a slightly different variation. -Great collection of maps you chose there. And I totally agree on your perspective of Halloween, taking it easy and relaxed. I also would prefer having the vibe of it spread out from September all the way through October until the end of November. It's a time of introspection, best spent in a study or library full of old magical (and new) books, with a warm cup of tea or coffee and a piece of apple pie, sitting at a big old wooden desk with a lantern or cuddled up in a blanket on a comfy couch with lots of pillows next to a big window overlooking a large beautiful backyard that is sporting the most beautiful hues of yellow-gold-orange-red of the season. And don't forget the crackling of the fireplace across the room.
In my opinion, Halloween should be like Christmas. Instead of having the decorations for like 1-2 days, imagine seeing decorations for the entire month. I would love Halloween a lot more if people dedicated to decoration and all that stuff just like they do in Christmas
I totally agree, I really wish people would do this more, or at least try to. I mean, even in my city's most devoted neighborhood when it comes to Halloween decorations (Beacon Hill in Boston), if you go even a few days beforehand, almost no one has decorations up in my experience. it's like they pop up overnight the day before Halloween, it's so odd. when I was more mentally well and lived in a whole victorian house (so it was an especially good aesthetic and I had a porch to decorate!), I tried really hard to at least have my decorations up for half the month (I always strived to have them done by the end of September but it never happened haha, I think earliest I ever did was first week of October one year), I wanted really badly to be the ~example~ for our neighborhood which over time decorated less and less for Halloween. never really "took" with other houses but at least I always got comments on Halloween night from folks trick or treating that they'd been admiring by decorations for weeks haha.
The halloween map actually works in VR. Me and my brother managed to do it and i do beleive that you need to interact with the flashlight on the table at the beginning to get it
I just found Librarian from the Asheville video, I can’t get enough!!! I had the asheville video in my watchlater for a LONG TIME and i just now wanted to clear out that list
Atmospheric House is a marvel of Source mapping just like rp_southside is. Custom assets, everything. It's absolutely incredible compared to the standard "square square" stock usage of Hammer. Actually an insane map. Hard to believe it's Source when you're playing it, too, like rp_southside.
2:00:40 The mouse cursor popping in and going partially across the screen before vanishing made me think that the map had orbs of light. You know the ones. Little orbs that are meant to be manifestations of something paranormal.... but mostly end up being insects or dust when seen in a building or ball lightning when seen outside.

So on the first map, there is a gamemode on VR Chat that's called "Ghost". And It is almost a 1 to 1 replica of the ambient house map with a few minor changes and this it was giving me a HUGE sense of Deja Vu.
Specifically the map that you play in Ghost is called "Haunted Mansion" or "Haunted House" so that's a really cool nod if what I believe is inspiration has already been in VR for a while or if the map has a sort of 2nd life / alternate universe version of it.
Happy Halloween! I was very surprised to see you've uploaded in a different time. Been happy to see you play horror maps in this month since you like Horror stuffs. I did suggesting the gm_abandoned_mall last time so yeah. In our country, Christmas starts in September so our it is combined with Halloween and Holiday, but it served pretty much normal for us.
the librarian the Arcade map looks more like an abstract map rather than liminal i would say it's a combination of abstract and liminal at the same time great video by the way
Hey Librarian just for the record but that Subterran map wasn't actually from the HL2 Beta. It was completely original but used Beta assets (namely textures and level design traits) and was loosely based on an actual story beat from the Beta. You remember the radio tower? Well the original story was Barney was going to meet you behind the manhack arcade (yes that's a real thing) and then you'd follow through that abandoned building with the antenna and the sewers and that was the original path to Kleinars lab (at this point known as Gort instead) If you are interested you should do videos on the HL2 Beta. Both actual leaked material and fan made stuff. It's truly interesting and is like diesel punk 1984 Blade Runner shit.
My favourite part of this was the weird arcade map with the standing dog and the fake forest. The floor texture reminded me of the wallpaper of my first PC, when i booted into windows 3.1. There was a desktop wallpaper which looked similar to this typical "weird shapes early 90's rainbow puke" design.
There's something about that first map that really struck me, a kind of fear I didn't couldn't put to words or realize I even had until I saw you go showcasing it: a fear of being alone in a stranger's house. Seeing familiar items, furniture, and trooms that you may have in your own home only arranged in unfamiliar ways, it makes one feel like an intruder who isn't supposed to be here. And the added fear of not knowing whether someone else is around at home hiding and watching you, either cowering in fear of you or waiting for the right time to attack you. The ambiguity of the map's scenario and it being realistically detailed, just dropped into without explanation is very mysterious and disconcerting for being so mundane. Even more so than other typical liminal spaces that often show surreal and nearly fantastical architecture, a comepltely normal house can somehow manage to make me feel a similar way of not more intensely. I guess the terror of home invasion, from the perspective of both sides, is the way to put it. The idea of being an unwilling intruder and the idea of having your own home invaded. The the latter is something I've nearly personally dealt with in real life, but with the former, the map reminded me of an experience I see people have when they play Gone Home, where they're always expecting it to be a horror game despite it not being one.
1:06:45 I remember playing this map a few years ago and for some reason this jumpscare absolutely killed me, It made me open up some random window and I fell out my chair
Love your content, dude! Always a blast to go spooky gmod spelunking with ya on these videos. If I could request something weird, I’d love to see your reaction/response to exploring the Super Mario 64 B3313 ROM Hack. Without spoiling much about it, it’s quite liminal, and right up your alley- it’s not gmod but still worth a try, whether you decide to upload it to your channel or explore it on your own time! Anyways, thanks for everything! :)
That prop hunt map is something I haven't seen in a good while now. My friends and I had a fair number of games on that one, so I had a few fun memories come back to me just seeing you explore it.
@1:11 one of thing that saddens me is not the eventual bringing down of stuff but as we grow older its less likely that we participate in these as we often live further away from each other and most of my friends loose the festive nature that these holidays bring and just want to relax which is not bad mind you but a shame of the times we live in.
I feel like some of these maps would be less scary or not even scary at all if it were experienced by someone else. Like the first house. it seems creepy. But when I think about it, if you're used to seeing the house a lot, it seems much less scary.
hi librarian, you can change the position of you invisible pounch, you can put in your shoulder by a command, look in the mod page, will help a lot when opening a door
I totally agree with you about Halloween, it’s one of the holidays we can just enjoy being together and not have it totally killed by gifting. Even some prior non gift holidays where it was meant to just be with family and friends have been ruined people buying gifts. Halloween is still what it always was, people having fun and being themselves.
The decorations don't have to come down we don't have to go back to boring reality best part of being a grown ass adult is you can live in perpetual Halloween if you choose!
I was waiting for the next video and this one was definitely worth the wait, right after my birthday party, thank you for the vid man and good evening to everyone
I remember playing horrorween some time ago with my friends, it has some cheap scares but it's good moments I think outweigh the bad ones. Was playing it with friends so I might be biased. I think it's from the same creator that made Hell's resort
I find it interesting that the Gmod prop hunt Halloween map actually managed to scare me (especially with that zombie) even though I've literally heard Vanoss and his crew call each other fuckers multiple times in this world
I also think about gm catacombs a lot. It was the second video of yours I saw and it may be one of if not my favortie map you have explored. Its also when I knew I was into your channel.
Halloween is my favorite time of year, but at 12:01 am November first the festive spirit overtakes my mortal form. I do share your sentiment about the 31st itself being a bit sad
You should regularly do more squats so you can easily lower yourself in these VR maps. :p Even without weight (one should start without weight to get the range of motion and get the form down), just doing some sets a few times per week would make this much easier and get your knees much more used to it. Also practicing getting down in to a squat position and staying in it, and you'll quickly be able to just rest in that position, so if a map has long sequences of having to be low down, you could be in that position for as long as you need, bu quickly be able to get back up from it when you need to. Kinda sounds like I'm trying to sell someone a car, but just selling some reasonable level of fitness. :)
If Half-Life 2 really did scrap that Map that you played on here. Anything could have been possible. From Headcrabs to Zombies to the Combine or anything else. That was one of my favorite maps that I saw you play. The last Mansion map looks like something out of Clue. Hidden Rooms. Guests being Murdered one by one. A Private Detective trying to figure out who the Murder or Murders are.
I would really like The Librarian to see the layout of our house. I live in Poland and our house is old. REALLY old. While we renovated my mother's room to modernise it, we found a rusty plaque that indirectly dates the house to before the great war. The plaque says 1921, but due to how these things usually work, it would mean that the house has been build at least five years before that if not more, and the slavic Yzba style of it suggests that it's been around since the 1600's That being said, before the renovations we've been doing, the layout was similar to the "Liminal spaces" the internet is going so much about. Today, you usually have the main room, leading to personal quarters or some hall that serves as an another hub for the personal rooms. Not here, we still have this thing where grandma sleeps in the "Living room", as in, the one with the TV and couch, right next to the kitchen where there is no door separating those two, when grandpa was alive his room was "Behind" grandma's, so he had to go thru his wife's room to go to sleep and overall, doors connecting rooms that shouldn't be connected and Lot's of other weird quirks.
1:18, yes librarian yes, Halloween should be 3 months of spooky!!!! Santa needs to stay in his lane in December! (I do like the idea of slowly transferring over decorations like turning your Halloween set up into a nightmare before Christmas style one
35:42 I expect someone has already mentioned this, but I think this is where a group of citizens had a conversation around a barrel with fire burning in it. I think this map is part of the route towards Kleiner's lab, after Barney sends you towards it. The dialogue in this scene was amusing in nature from what I recall (maybe even a joke from the devs?). I can't find a link to it, which is sending me mad lol. I just remember seeing it in the beta, and on another video somewhere. Funny you pointed it out though.
would be great if you looked at more hl2 beta stuff, it has a really unique and cool vibe to it, i think you'd really like it, great video by the way !
Surprised you never played gm_clue, it was and is a pretty popular TTT map. Worked surprisingly well even with a lot of players due to the secret passages. Ironically the secret passages are the spots you're most likely to die in, and the power switch/basement was also a prime spot for traitors to do their dirty work. The attic as well. Clear up people who wander from the group, then spread out through the mansion proper and kill the rest. Such a good map for TTT.
1:13:21 judging by no reaction from your side, as well from the comments section, I assume you didn't play the HL horror mod Afraid of Monsters - the predecessor of Cry of Fear, made by the same team, it has several endings and there is a director's cut, I would really like to see your walkthrough and to hear your thoughts about the mod.
When I play Gmod VR the blue laser/pointer only appears when there is an open tab on the menu pressing esc on the keyboard and closing it solves it, the laser only appears when you hover over the open tab

The the latter is something I've nearly personally dealt with in real life, but with the former, the map reminded me of an experience I see people have when they play Gone Home, where they're always expecting it to be a horror game despite it not being one.
Oh golly gosh! Two+ hours of The Librarian! My favorite!
Librarian can you do some maps on Urban exploring a plane crash or a haunted plane crash I think that would be pretty cool always love your content
One of the few channels I can watch 2 hours of their content.
Thought i was dreaming when i saw the video length.. Great video!
I feel like some of these maps would be less scary or not even scary at all if it were experienced by someone else.
Like the first house. it seems creepy. But when I think about it, if you're used to seeing the house a lot, it seems much less scary.
I love watching these before going to bed
hi librarian, you can change the position of you invisible pounch, you can put in your shoulder by a command, look in the mod page, will help a lot when opening a door
Love your content man.
This video and the 24 scary stories are a DREAM.
"This was surprisingly fun experience but let's move on to some more traditional maps shall we?"
*woman begins screaming*
The decorations don't have to come down we don't have to go back to boring reality best part of being a grown ass adult is you can live in perpetual Halloween if you choose!
I was waiting for the next video and this one was definitely worth the wait, right after my birthday party, thank you for the vid man and good evening to everyone
I remember playing horrorween some time ago with my friends, it has some cheap scares but it's good moments I think outweigh the bad ones. Was playing it with friends so I might be biased. I think it's from the same creator that made Hell's resort
I was going to watch a scary movie for halloween, but i rather watch this.
I find it interesting that the Gmod prop hunt Halloween map actually managed to scare me (especially with that zombie) even though I've literally heard Vanoss and his crew call each other fuckers multiple times in this world
Shit, didn't expect him to be strapped I guess thats the only way to go through 8 maps with your sanity intact c:
"Like ghosts and shit" THIS SOUNDS LIKE A JOB FOR THE SOLVER SQUAD
aww cute safety Glock lets hope we get a safety Glock plushie i would buy it XD
1:22:45 I'm actually so glad you made that pz connection, while I was just thinking about it.
The Monty python reference was godly
Happy Halloween librarian, have a good one.
this man just casually pointed a loaded firearm towards his face
gun safety 101
The Librarian: "see's a floating table" you know that would go great in auction
Obligatory "this place must've been abandoned for Years" reference
What a nice thing to see, so early in the morning :D
God, the way he magdumped that first jump scare XD.
i recently did a vr horror game for the first time, and only now i truely understand your terror at those jumpscares
Watching this again in preparation for Halloween 2023. I hope you do something similar this year.
I would really like The Librarian to see the layout of our house. I live in Poland and our house is old. REALLY old. While we renovated my mother's room to modernise it, we found a rusty plaque that indirectly dates the house to before the great war. The plaque says 1921, but due to how these things usually work, it would mean that the house has been build at least five years before that if not more, and the slavic Yzba style of it suggests that it's been around since the 1600's
That being said, before the renovations we've been doing, the layout was similar to the "Liminal spaces" the internet is going so much about.
I hear the rain outside, and it's a dark night. perfect timing.
he just said "happy halloween" and i immediately liked the video
how'd that happen?
35:42 I expect someone has already mentioned this, but I think this is where a group of citizens had a conversation around a barrel with fire burning in it. I think this map is part of the route towards Kleiner's lab, after Barney sends you towards it. The dialogue in this scene was amusing in nature from what I recall (maybe even a joke from the devs?).
I can't find a link to it, which is sending me mad lol. I just remember seeing it in the beta, and on another video somewhere. Funny you pointed it out though.
yup this is getting added to my sleep playlist
your voice always give me chill
wow, you are a content king, keep up the great work!
would be great if you looked at more hl2 beta stuff, it has a really unique and cool vibe to it, i think you'd really like it, great video by the way !
Happy Hallowe'en! This is a treat!!
49:09 "you chose trick, so I guess that means a home invasion" I'm DYING, whys it so funny
it sure was a spooky long video for a chilling cozy day.
1:40:02 that model is the hl2 player model, if you enable sv_cheats in the console and run thirdperson you can see it ingame
Watching you while I study for exams, keep up the great content Librarian!
