Mongols are the last nomadic tribe to rise, and the only nomadic tribe to break through the rule of China! Before that, Huns, Rouran, Turkic and Qidan were basically exterminated, fled and assimilated by Han people!Mongols surrendered to Chinese from the Tang Dynasty, but they were not completely sinicized, only some etiquette, costumes and religious buildings were highly sinicized ~

What an interesting account of the history of Mongolia. Although I travelled by train through Inner & Outer Mongolia in 1986 (from Beijing to Novosibirsk), I was ignorant of this history. We had to stop for a few hours on the border between the two Mongolias for a few hours since the rail gauges were not compatible. I recall noticing that the station nams were shown in both Chinese and Mongolian scripts in Inner M, but only in Cyrillic in Outer M. I was struck by the vast emptiness of the country, as you have mentioned. Many thanks for your work from an Irish mathematician.

Hello ! May Allah protect and guide you to his light and happiness in this life and the hereafter, God bless, Ameen. Excuse me for giving a little presentation of Islam, because it is very misunderstood nowadays, especially on those « Antichrist's » times, where media and politics are mixed to distort history and truth. Thank you very much for your time.
Islam is an arabic word that means the Surrender to the One and Only God, our Creator, Protector, Provider, who gives us life and all that we have, we are safe and sound by his will and grace, we are His and to Him we return, and we have to thank him in this trial life by submitting to him by our free will, or later in the Day of judgment when it's too late to save our own skin. Islam was the original Religion descended to earth from heaven with Adam and Eve (peace and blessing be upon them) in the beginning of humanity. and was passed to people with the succession of the 124 000 prophets and 315 messengers of God to all nations and civilizations since, passing by Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Ismaël, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Joshua, David, Solomon and Jesus (Peace and blessing be upon them) during the history of mankind, the last replaces and completes the previous, until the succession of the last messenger of God fourteen centuries ago, Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) to complete the noble morals of all mankind, to bring humans and jinns out of darkness into light, and to purify people's religion and belief from corruption and polytheism, and return it to purity and true monotheism, like it was in the times of the prophets (Peace and blessing be upon them).
Many Religions that we know nowadays, at their beginning were true and under Islam, initiated by one of the prophets of God, but their original teachings, history and scriptures have been corrupted over time with falsification and polytheism, or lost and replaced with false ones. That's why Islam is the only Religion accepted by God nowadays, which consists in bearing witness that there is no god besides Allah (God in Aramaic, the original language of Jesus and the Gospel), and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger, just like Jesus and Moses and others are His servants and messengers. Never a messenger of God said he was God or literally son of God, it was the people after him who changed the words of God and corrupted the Religion. God is unique and absolute, He does not need to have a family and sons or to associate anyone else with His kingdom, He can simply create whatever He wants, everything belongs to Him, and to Him everything will return. Allah said in Surah Al-Mu’minun : “God has never begotten a son, nor is there any god besides Him. Otherwise, each god would have taken away what it has created, and some of them would have gained supremacy over others. Glory be to God, far beyond what they describe. The Knower of the hidden and the manifest. He is exalted, far above what they associate. (91-92 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah means the one and only God, the God of all prophets and creatures, the creator of the universe and mankind, and the Master of the Day of judgment, where our destiny, Hell or Paradise, is decided based on our faith and deeds in this trial life, and above all, Allah's mercy.
Allah said in Surah Al-Ikhlas : In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Say, “He is God, the One. God, the Absolute. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.” (1-4 / Translated by ITANI).
Allah said in Surah An-Nisa : O FOLLOWERS of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God's Apostle - [the fulfilment of] His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, "[God is] a trinity". Desist [from this assertion] for your own good. God is but One God; utterly remote is He, in His glory, from having a son: unto Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is on earth; and none is as worthy of trust as God. Never did the Christ feel too proud to be God's servant, nor do the angels who are near unto Him. And those who feel too proud to serve Him and glory in their arrogance [should know that on Judgment Day] He will gather them all unto Himself: (171-172 / Translated by Muhammad Asad).
Allah the Most Merciful said in Surah Ali-Imran : Behold, the only [true] religion in the sight of God is [man's] self-surrender unto Him; and those who were vouchsafed revelation aforetime took, out of mutual jealousy, to divergent views [on this point] only after knowledge [thereof] had come unto them. But as for him who denies the truth of God's messages - behold, God is swift in reckoning!
Thus, [O Prophet,] if they argue with thee, say, "I have surrendered my whole being unto God, and [so have] all who follow me!" - and ask those who have been vouchsafed revelation aforetime, as well as all unlettered people, "Have you [too] surrendered yourselves unto Him?" And if they surrender themselves unto Him, they are on the right path; but if they turn away - behold, thy duty is no more than to deliver the message: for God sees all that is in [the hearts of] His creatures.
Verily, as for those who deny the truth of God's messages, and slay the prophets against all right, and slay people who enjoin equity - announce unto them a grievous chastisement.
It is they whose works shall come to nought both in this world and in the life to come; and they shall have none to succour them.
(19-22 / Translated by Muhammad Asad)..
God said : Say, “We believe in Allah, and in what was revealed to us, and in what was revealed to Abraham, and Ishmael, and Isaac, and Jacob, and the Patriarchs, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus, and in what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We do not differentiate between any of them. And to Him, we surrender.”
      (2:136 / Translated by Community)
      Salam (Peace) ---------------

I respect youtuber's ethnic identity, but I have some different opinions. The reason why Junggar was almost genocided is that the Junggar tribe has been harassing and attacking the Qing Dynasty and the Mongolian tribes protected by the Qing Dynasty for nearly a hundred years. The Junggar tribe once approached Beijing, and also entered Tibet to kill Tibetan Khan. It has made a feud with the Qing government.
The Qing Dynasty treated the Mongolian tribes with special treatment. Manchu and Mongolian nobles intermarried. The most famous Empress Dowager Xiaozhuang in the Qing Dynasty was Mongolian. Mongolian officials and famous generals came forth in large numbers in the Qing Dynasty. The famous Mongolian generals in the late Qing Dynasty shelled the Anglo-French Allied Forces in the East China Sea and almost killed the commander of the Allied Forces.
After Mongolia's independence, in order to publicize the legitimacy of independence and cultivate national self-esteem and self-confidence, the Qing government and modern China were vilified and hatred was created artificially. For example, Mongolian characters can be seen everywhere in Inner Mongolia, but many people in Outer Mongolia do not know that they use Russian characters themselves, but criticize the Chinese government for killing Mongolian characters. You should know I'm telling the truth.

In this ancient land of China, it was the battles and integration between different ethnic groups that led to China’s 56 ethnic groups today! Every nation is different. Mongolian Genghis Khan is also the most famous Mongolian emperor in Chinese history. There are also Manchus. The more Han people there are, the more emperors they have. Genghis Khan integrated various major ethnic groups and learned the excellent culture of the Han and Manchus, and he had his most prosperous period.
Inner Mongolia is the current residence of the direct descendants of Genghis Khan, and it was also the place allocated to them by the emperor of the Ming Dynasty! Including Outer Mongolia, it’s just that when China was at its weakest, Outer Mongolia colluded with the outside world during the century of humiliation to separate itself from the hands of the Republic of China (which is now the puppet regime in Taiwan). China’s Inner Mongolia has always been the most traditional Mongolian culture. (Orthodox Mongolian blood and culture), while Outer Mongolia had already changed the traditional Mongolian script under the influence of external Tsarist Russia and the Western powers at that time, and turned it into a Mongolian script that combined foreign culture (unorthodox)

What a introduction! This is the first time I've heard anyone mention us, the upper Mongols. For those who are curious, don't worry, we're still here. To bring a different perspective of us as a people group, there are many of us who fully identify as Chinese now. We would be what people consider "Sinicized" and "han-fied". "Han" is more of a state concept than an ethnic one. We still celebrate our differences, but we are also proud of what unites us as a multi-ethnic built nation .

In history, some Khitans and Jurchen people, including Dangxiang people who were eliminated by Genghis Khan, became Han people during their escape. When some ethnic groups face difficulties, they will unite and continue to exist in a strong country. This is the so-called sinicization

The Chinese Communist Party persecutes Mongolians, Tibetans, Uyghurs and other ethnic minorities, destroys the culture and beliefs of various ethnic groups, and forces people to regard the Communist Party as a religion. Communist China must be split into 7 countries. Let the Mongolian nation be united and the Tibetan nation be independent. The Chinese Communist government must be overthrown, so that the land of China can re-grow democracy and freedom, rebuild a new democratic republic federation, and let the people of independent countries vote in a referendum on whether to join this new democratic and free federation.

@@conradtrinh6470 Ordos is now unquestionably the richest place in Inner Mongolia, China. Yes, Ordos has had its share of ghost towns and overbuilding scandals. Even now the population of Ordos is not comparable to the population density of the coastal cities of China. However, thanks to advanced planning and a strong financial position, Ordos still has one of the best living environments in China. But if you are not a local, you won't have much chance to develop there. But as a tourist city, Ordos is excellent. Compared to Europe and America, Chinese cities are overcrowded. Instead, Ordos has become a model of wide living density without urban congestion.

There is another point to mention, which is that desertification in Inner Mongolia has been gradually improving. In fact, China and India have been the two countries with the largest increase in forest cover in the past decade. The increase in China's forests can be attributed to the "Three-North Shelter Forest Program." In particular, the Mu Us Desert in Inner Mongolia is nearing disappearance.zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E6%AF%9B%E4%B9%8C%E7%B4%A0%E6%B2%99%E6%BC%A0. And this dying desert is right near the city of Ordos. Dust storms have not disappeared from Mongolia, Inner Mongolia and northern China in recent years, due to the excessively dry climate. Inner Mongolia needs to join forces with Mongolia to combat the effects of desertification. Finally, I would like to say that many Korean and Japanese media think that the dust that comes every spring only comes from Inner Mongolia in China, but in fact this is not true, Inner Mongolia and Outer Mongolia together form the source of the spring dust storms in Northeast Asia. One of the major cities most affected by this is China's capital, Beijing. But I guess every time the same dust problem occurs every spring, Japan and South Korea will probably only blame China and not emphasise Mongolia's problem.

I also have to admit that Buryad-Mongols (as one myself) were also separated from the outer Mongolia (Khalkh-Mongols) and this whole Mongol region due to russian invasion of Siberia. Our tribes have a lot of legends about our 'real' home and ancestry. I also should note that ethnic Buryad-Mongolian region also known as Bargujin Tokum includes whole Baikal region with the Angar river system in the west and north and Selenge river system in the south and east.
During the soviet period my republic was called 'Republic of Buryad-Mongolia' but due to panmongolism and mongol influence in this region the government separated this republic into 3 different regions and renamed it (today known as Irkutskaya oblast, Republic of Buryatia and Zabaikalsky krai). Because of that some tribes migrated to outer Mongolia and China. They are known as Sheneheen Buryads. The Stalin repressions and racism towards us due to our culture, looks and language decreased our population drastically...
They also changed our official language (we used to write vertically and this requires knowledge of the khalkh dialect which is spoken in today Mongolia. The uniqueness of this writing system is that you write in khalkh dialect but can pronounce it with your own dialect. It was just universal for all Mongolian people).
Anyway, I hope my English is readable and you all can understand the tough and complicated history of my people... ^^

    Very cool video.
I’m an ethical Mongolian from Liaoning Northeast China. And my dad did research of the family tree that our ancestors came to settle down to be peasants in Liaoning during Yuan dynasty .
And we are left no differences from the local Han peasants after hundreds years of farming lives. There’s just a little different that we celebrate Chinese New Year the day before CNY’s eve. As a lot my ancestors worked on CNY’s eve to get more income . I don’t know if it’s just my family tradition or to all the local Mongolians.

Loved the Video. It was an eye opener and great education for me. I always wondered what happened to the Mongols around the native homeland of Chinggas after the 13th Centrury. I figured most of the Mongolians in China just became Han Chinese. Had no idea that today there are more pure Mongolians in China (Inner Mongolia) than there is in Mongolia (Outer Mongolia).
I have been interested in Mongolian History for a good 5 years now, and watch as many Mongol UA-cam content as much as possible. However, most of what I watch only covers the Mongols up to the late 14 century, so it was nice to watch this video here.
I noticed you did NOT mention the Ming-Mongol Wars at all. From my very limited understanding, it seem the only reason why the Ming Dynasty fell was because of the Ming-Mongol Wars, and without these Wars, the Qing might have never came into existence. It seems the Qing really set China backwards, as before the Qing, "The Middle Kingdom" (China) was the center (or top depending on your perspective) of the world when it came to Science and Technology.
I always assumed half of Kublai's ancestors, just rode back to Mongolia when the Ming took over, and the other half became Han Chinese.
On another topic, I am reading in the comments that Mongols could not manage an empire, which I disagree with. Mongols were great empire managers! The Mongol empire did not really fall, it split up into 4 main Khanates, and over time, just blended in with the locals. The Mongols were few in population, so when the Chinggas grandsons split up his empire, the Mongol bloodline over centuries got watered down in the far off lands of the Illkhanate, the Golden Horde (Jochi Khanate), the Chaggatai Khanate, and even the Kublai Khanate.
Once again, thanks for the video!

Hi, thanks for watching! I will cover part of the Ming-Mongol War in my next video. It wasn't mentioned because it didn't split Mongolia into two, which is the subject of this video. In Ming times, Mongolia was still one piece, the land north of the Great Wall was considered Mongolia.

There are more than 20 million Mongolians living in China, while there are only 3 million in Mongolia. It has only been one hundred years since they became independent from China (they voted for independence under the gunfire of Tsarist Russia and the Soviet Union). The rulers of the Qing Dynasty all considered themselves Chinese, and the founders of the Qing Dynasty were once local officials of the Ming Dynasty. Thanks, In this ancient land of China, it was the battles and integration between different ethnic groups that led to China’s 56 ethnic groups today!

Great video! Just a slight nitpick: The sinicization, at least in terms of population mix, had nothing to do with the current Chinese government. In fact, the share of Han Chinese in Inner Mongolia has dropped a little since 1947.
I was intrigued by your video and did a little digging. It turns out that due to proximity to "China Proper", once every other century or so, the political and climatic conditions allow Inner Mongolia to come under the plow of Han Chinese, making the region briefly 50% Han and 50% nomadic ethnicities for a few decades, until a combination of dynastic decline and war in China, colder climate and soil erosion from overexploitation of the soil (similar to the US dust bowl) together forces the Han Chinese to flee back South of the Great Wall, and the region returns to mostly nomadic ethnicities. During the Ming Dynasty, this recurring process even happened for once under the control of Mongols themselves, when they invited Han farmers and together founded the modern city of Hohhot.
This continued under the Qing Dynasty again, when Han and Mongol were again 50-50 at the beginning of 1800s. But then perhaps improved agricultural techniques, deliberate policy encouraging Han migration, and the end of the little ice age all served to allow Han Chinese to for the first time ever actually overcome that 50% threshold, increasing to ~70% by 1910s and then >80% by 1947 (I guess this is why there's many people in China who actually think climate change is a good thing, believing it will even more irrevocably beat back the North).
This is somewhat similar to Xinjiang, which had a large Han population during the Qing (after the genocide you mentioned), but the current Chinese government gets blamed for "Han colonization", which I think is not entirely fair. This is not to excuse their other actions there and elsewhere.
The closest I ever got to Inner Mongolia was when I visited the "wild Great Wall(野长城)" north of 张家口earlier this year, and took home a piece of the Great Wall itself (actually just a rock lying by a former watch tower)! You can already feel the trees giving way to the steppe there. I look forward to visiting one day for a few weeks and truly feel the spirit of the grassland!

张家口(Kalgan) and 杀虎口 used to be the frontier/gateway of Inner Mongolia, many inner Mongol military banners (some were even called back from Yunnan) were stationed there around a place called 野狐岭 to guard against the Han rebels, including my ancestors. Because 野狐岭 was the last barrier standing between Mongolia and China Proper (you can circle around 野长城, but you must cross 野狐岭 to get to Inner Mongolia). There are loads of story regarding 野狐岭 and it is still a significant military base in Modern China. So, kudos to you for visiting that region!

    Hello Jingwu!
As for the descendent of the Barga clan (Our 30 families migrated from Inner Mongolian Khulunbuir to Mongolia successfully during the early 20s, and we are still living in the Eastern Mongolian province today and named the land by Khulunbuir), I am admiring your great documentary.
Before your documentary, I have been misjudging Inner Mongolians as betrayers, backstabbers, and cowards. Because our people, who have migrated from Inner Mongolia to Mongolia have been chased from the first day of our arrival till the 1990s (Cause of Inner Mongolians who informed migrators information to China, China to Russia, and Russia to Mongolia).

What a facinating video! I grow up in Hohhot and got my early education there, and I went to college in Beijing, then I spent another 5 years in US for further education. Honestly speaking, this video gives me a feeling that my hometown's history is connected to the world history now! Although I'm not a Mongolian, the Mongolian culture influenced me a lot. When I passed the Gaokao and studied in Beijing, friends from other parts of China would ask me whether I might ride a horse to school every day. During the time in US, I attended a equestrian lesson to atone for that I made a lot fun to many people saying that everyone in Mongolia knew how to ride a horse and we could not graduate from high school without grasping archery and knowing how to ride. That's a prejudice! Just like what my TA in the equestrian lesson who were from Taxas experienced, people would believe she had many cows back home.

To be clear, Chinggis Khan (aka Genghis Khan) died in 1227. It was Ögedei Khan (SON of Chinggis Khan), who defeated the Jin Dynasty in Northern China in 1234 and Kublai Khan (GRANDSON of Chinggis Khan) who finally took over China by defeating the last resistance who were the Song Dynasty in Southern China.
The Mongols' rule over China (Yuan Dynasty) was from 1271-1367, which is 96 years. In 1368, the Chinese peasents started an uprising led by the Red Turban Movement that toppled the Yuan Dynasty and established the Ming Dynasty.

i think you misunderstanding some thing, Mongolia never took China for China never existed back then, only the country that ceased to exist after the invasion. It's more correctly to prefer it as "middle east" or in my tongue "Trung Nguyên" (don't worry my country and china share the same writing and meaning, once)
China is the word to describe the current country that also included inner mongolia. Simply put, China is a big country that contain many small countries in it, inner mongolia is just one small part of it.

    • @dmraven
      @dmraven 11 місяців тому +13

@@luutuan7162 your comment makes no sense. There was never a "Mongolia" back when Genghis Khan started his campaign of attacking and conquering other people/tribes/countries. They were nomadic tribes.
China is literally the world's oldest continuous civilization in the world. The first official dynasty. Archaeologists recently unearthed what may be evidence supporting the existence of one of the Chinese empire’s 4,000-year-old creation myths. The Xia dynasty was the first of many ancient Chinese ruling houses, thought to exist from around 2070 B.C. until 1600 B.C..
However, curent historical evidence and official facts prove the first dynasty started AT LEAST as far back as 1600 B.C., the Shang dynasty. Countries in history have their own conflicts and even civil war between their own people. Some split into different countries, and others simply fall back into place. China has had their own civil wars but have always fallen back into its place (what we call China).
The Great Wall of China was built to keep northern forces from raiding China (mainly the Mongols), but in the 13th century C.E., the wall provided little help against the armies of Mongol invaders Under the leadership of the infamous Genghis Khan and, later, his grandson, Kublai Khan, Mongol nomads overran the Chinese armies and ushered in the Yuan Dynasty of China. Over the course of its existence, the empire would become the largest contiguous land empire in history.
The Mongol invasion of China started in 1211 when Genghis Khan’s forces took on the northern Chinese Jin Empire. Mongols took advantage of the fractured state of China, which was then divided into the Song Empire in the south and the Jin Empire in the north. Genghis Khan allied his forces with defectors from the Jin state in order to overtake their army. The Mongols learned siege warfare techniques from the Chinese, which helped them extend their military outfitting beyond their significant cavalry forces. The Jin state was absorbed into the Mongol Empire under Ogodei Khan in 1234.
After a period of peace between Mongols in the northern region of China and the southern Song Empire, the grandson of Genghis Khan, Kublai Khan, began a second invasion of the Chinese region. Mongol forces besieged the Song’s important fortress city of Xianyang for five years before conquering it and moving on. The last song emperor was a young boy. He, his mother, and the imperial court fled the Mongol forces. In 1279, with Mongol invaders closing in, a loyal minister carrying the eight-year-old emperor jumped into the ocean, and both drowned. The boy’s demise marked the complete takeover of China by Mongol rulers. Kublai Khan went on to become the first emperor of the Yuan Dynasty, which lasted until 1368. Under the rule of Kublai Khan, the Mongol Empire became the largest contiguous empire ever seen.
My statement was that Genghis Khan was literally dead by the time China was fully taken over under the control of his grandson Kublai Khan. People seem to think (and state even in videos) that Genghis Khan himself conquered China. That is incorrect. This is why different regions, the Mongols conquered, were split under different people to rule. The Yuan dynasty simply ruled China, not the area of what Genghis Khans army and later his children and grandchildren took over East and Central Asia.

@@luutuan7162 Also, "China" is an English name that was borrowed from Portuguese during the 16th century, and its direct cognates became common in the subsequent centuries in the West . It is believed to be a borrowing from Middle Persian, and some have traced it further back to the Sanskrit word चीन (cīna) for the nation.
The Chinese themselves do not and have not ever called themselves "Chinese." In fact, because they believed they were in the middle of the world, surrounded by natural barriers on all sides, the Chinese thought of themselves as 'Zhong Guo" - the Middle Kingdom.

The essences of the language were lost during the translation process and outsider like you for example, relied on it as a fact for the argument while not knowing the whole bigger and deeper picture.
For example, did you know the only reason those hung nô was able to enter 中原 or trung nguyên was because the general who was assigned to defense the gate, opened it and let the hung nô in? the dynasty at that time was really corrupted and the emperor did some unforgiveable thing to the general so he opened the gate as a way to show his revenge.
Also you said my statement was none sense, but you have proven my statement to be true. ""China" is an English name that was borrowed from Portuguese during the 16th century," China is not the correct word to prefer to us, never is and never will.

As he said that Inner Mongolian speak very traditional and ancient Mongolian language and he could only understand like 40% of it, as well Inner Mongolia is using traditional Mongolian characters. Which he the outer Mongolian can only read and speak Cyrillic Mongolian which was developed based on Russian. Would you please explain how much difference between the “two Mongolian languages” and how much in common?

Mongolian-American here. I was born and raised in Ulaanbaatar and I speak standard Mongolian fluently, so I think I can provide you an answer from my perspective. I personally can't read the traditional script since I left for the US years ago.
Mongolian cyrillic alphabet is based on Russian cyrillic, and standard Mongolian is written in Mongolian cyrillic. Linguistically there is minor difference between the accents of standard Mongolian and the Inner Mongolian accent, and we can understand each other if we speak slowly. The language is still the same, Mongolian. It's like comparing American English to Scottish accent.
The only big difference between Inner Mongolia and Mongolia is the writing system, in my opinion. It's like writing Korean in Hangul and Chinese characters, the same language but just a different writing system.
It sucks to me that we don't use the traditional writing system, and part of me thinks the Soviets might have purposefully converted outer Mongolia to using cyrillic system in order to divide Mongols further. If I remember correctly, literacy rate was very low in outer Mongolia (at time of independece) and the Soviets forced the teaching of cyrillic alphabet instead of the traditional script. The Mongolian government is trying to promote the traditional script though, with some mild success.

11:18 "Khanbalik" is not even a mongolian name for that city, and it was only named "北京" (Beijing) in 1403, Ming dynasty.
before that: in Yuan dynasty and mongol empire, it was called 大都 in chinese,Dayidu in mongolian, and Khanbalik in ancient turki.
in Song - Liao - Jin dynasties, it was called 燕京 by Song , 析津府 by Liao, and 中都/大兴 by Jin
in Tang, it was 幽州; in Sui, it was 涿郡; in Wei-Jing, it was 燕郡, 燕国; in Han and Qin, it was 蓟县; in Zhou, it was 燕, 蓟, and that was 1000BB.
so the city we know as "Beijing" now is a town/county which had many names in many dynasties, Yuan/mongol empire is just one of them, relatively speaking a very young and short lived one.

      @islamisthetruewaytogod6812 10 місяців тому
