Corrections: (1) The Nail was pulled up by Emily Blunt's laundry bag? I thought it was ALREADY up, and the laundry bag scene was there to establish it. Gonna need a ref... I still found it over-the-top. (2) Jack the Narrator pointed out below that "A Quiet Place" is John Krasinski's 3rd directing effort. I saw a lot of articles about this being his first Big Theatrical Release, and I assumed it was his first time directing, as well.
This actually is Krasinski's 3rd directorial effort. He also made the indie dramas "Brief Interviews with Hideous Men" in 2009 and "The Hollars" in 2016.
When i first saw the advertisement for this movie, i was so excited. I love horror movies that are bone chilling and make you scared to the core, not just some crappy jump scare tactics. It seems like they had so much to work with. Completely silent? That is the easiest method to build tension so that bit is handed to you on a silver plate. From there you just have to get creative and dig deep into what scares people. They could have even made the movie about their lives and how they inevitably divulge into maddness from the silence or how maddening it would be if one of them made a noise and the rest of the family had to sit their quietly as they were murdered in front of them. I have not seen the movie so i dont know if that happens. None the less, it seems like a new and fresh movie idea and i would love to see some more ideas similar in creativity. Cant wait to see this when it is online. Keep up the great reviews, the ending bloopers are quite hilarious!
Thank you, TheMonsterman. The film does play with a couple of the ideas you mention, but I don't want to spoil it. I hope you enjoy it when you see it!
Haha, that's what's great about his reviews. Who else is this passionate about their reviews? Hell, I'd listen to him review the 6pm news *because* he's so animated.
Man, you had me on the edge of my seat during the second act of your review. I was disappointed that after the intense retelling of the families auditory struggles you ended your rant without thr trademark *Brrrpffff* you always blurt out at a rants crescendo. I finally got a "sheesh" @ 11:45 but it's not that same. Hopefully I find the movie to be half as intense lol *Brrrpffff* !
Lol. Those are usually improvised. Not sure if I could manifest them on cue, but I'll keep that in mind. :P Glad you enjoyed the rant. But apparently, the nail "materializing" was a misreading of an earlier scene, on my part.
This is a positive review. I definitely think "A Quiet Place" is worth seeing. Your sarcasm (if that was your intent) is arguing for shades of grey in a movie's value, and I agree. So why can't I have shades of grey in my opinions? I love MANY flawed films. "A Quiet Place" had aspects that kept me from loving it, but I still enjoyed it and recommended it. I get loud and obnoxious about it, but that doesn't mean I'm always angry OR that I arrogantly hold my opinion over other people. I hope you liked the movie, Tom. Take care.
I was pretty excited by the idea that the family knew the weakness and was ready to fight to the death. Like, if we're going down, we're going down swinging! It would have been cheesy... and either the audience has to watch them all die or someone would come along and save them... I guess it's better to leave it ambiguous, than to get silly. But I confess, I was already prepared for silly, at that moment. The movie made a safe choice here, in my opinion.

the nail, the newborn, the lack of any sound tactics used by any military on the planet to draw in the creatures? 1/5 is being generous

I stand corrected. Thank you, Jack the Narrator.

Just having a good time.

in all movies ever made people should never make mistakes or the movie is not worth seeing, right AE?

LOL .. "mutual masturbation!" -- LOL Um. so they weren't using a wifi speaker system set up around the farm to create noise-based misdirection?
That would have been clever, Indy Jones! No, they did not.
Of course, this film plays upon politically correct culture and the fear of losing free speech in society.
You're retarded
the ending sucked
I agree.
Not sure how they could've ended something that doesn't really end though. Besides killing them all I guess.
