Incredibles 2 Undermines The Incredibles and Itself - An In-Depth Movie Opinion
Helen is a hypocrite. Bob is dumped on. Violet reverts. Dash is just there. And baby Jack-Jack hogs too much screentime. The threat-level is weak. Story progress is regressed, without anything meaningful to add. Plus, the Villain's motive is shallow and self-contradictory.
Incredibles 2 does not ruin The Incredibles, but it does undermine them.

How the fuck did I watch this in one sitting
oh look another video about identity politics. no thanks
I feel like the writers knew what they were doing with the meddled time they had to complete the film.
If they wanted them to still be illegal, they could have done the simplest thing: after the omnidroid fight, let the politicians do a "trial period" where supers are not quite legal, with a deal like "we can gradually try, but be mindful guys". Then, because the fight with the underminer goes wrong, the trial period gets interrupted and they're fully illegal again. This would fix the retcon, and would give the bad guy a reason to go ahead with the plan and keep them illegal, since as of now her plan makes no sense since they're already illegal.
I hit 1600 mr in street fighter while listening to this video. Thanks for the audio lol
Lol. You're welcome.
Honestly the only part of this movie I really remember is Bob helping Dash with his homework. I liked that scene. I would've been down for the entire movie to have just been about Bob raising his kids while Helen is off doing hero stuff off screen.
Why is your review longer than the movie 😭😭😭
43:37 "WE DEMAND TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY" vibes, lol
The only way to save the franchise is to make a prequel move now imo. Explain the origins of everything
Let's face it. Modern disney would NEVER fight FOR stay-at-home moms.
Holy shit. This guy disappeared for 6 YEARS before coming back and dropping a 3-hour BANGER??? LIKE WHAAAAAAAAAA ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️
How is this video longer than the movie?
This was fun
51:10 I don't think the opinions of Helen and the childfree woman are mutually exclusive. Just because that woman doesn't value having her own kids, because she finds them "annoying and snot-nosed", doesn't mean she can't appreciate the hardworking mothers of the world. If it's framed as "I'm the opposite of mother material, can't do it", that's fine. It would be more a problem if the woman was condescending and rude specifically towards Helen; but in the scene, she's not even talking to her. Important to note also that motherhood as a lifestyle doesn't exist in a vacuum. Some women do see it through the lens of thankless self-sacrifice, and especially in relationships where the father doesn't give up HIS time, energy and hobbies. There's the whole baby-trapping thing to be wary of, and it could be this view of "motherhood" which the woman has a problem with. So I don't think it's wrong of her to see motherhood with some trepidation. Yes, raising kids can be heroic. Of course. Good parents make the world go round. But not everybody's about that lifestyle and if you hate the very notion, not having kids could be the best thing you can do. I know this film has a younger audience though, and most kids couldn't parse the reasons why someone would prefer to be child free.
Sidenote: Edna being turned around on her allergy to babies in the space of a day has some implications too. Even if it's purely a superpower thing. Again, my opinion is that not having the mothering instinct is fine. But Edna is suddenly like "Babysitting this one, I do for free darling!"? Both undermines her childfree choices and potentially gives Bob one more person to foist the baby off onto.
I'm not done with the video yet, but I have to say I hate the new character models. They're so different from the OGs as to be distracting, and the cartoony faces are discomforting. Too much squash and stretch, too exaggerated. (Mulan 2 had the same problem imo.) I also think the lighting, while ambitious and often stunning, doesn't work super well on the characters all the time. The way the light and shade works on the characters, it looks like the colour-burn effect you see in AI generated art. That just brings me out in a rash. 😅
Ah yes, my favorite, a video I can watch, fall asleep too, then next day I rewind to the last moment I remember, only to fall asleep again, repeat x4 until I’ve watched it all
Lmaoo I do this all the time
Haha me too
I enjoyed this film but i prefer the first adaptation more.

Dude slow down, breath sounds like you rambling, slow down
Even though Helen is supposed to be the main lead I actually only cared about the parts with Bob in it cause even though he is failing he's trying his best.
So much missed potential. It's hard to follow up a 10/10 movie like Incredibles 1.
This is a GREAT video. The editing, the humor, Jesus Christ this is a gem.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this video
Thank you
Omg that is SO funny you mention Winston being the Screenslaver instead of Evelyn, because a while back when I was talking to my sister about this movie I came up with that idea. Almost verbatim tho. what I had in mind was for both of them to come up with the Screenslaver persona for different reasons. Winston obviously wants to make supers legal again and be treated fairly, but Evelyn doesn't think people need supers and they actually hurt them in the long run due to dependency. So to prove a point she secretly sabotages the missions so they'd fail, but no one will get hurt. But not only does her sabotages backfire in a way that does put people in potential danger, they make it where ONLY supers can save them and make them look that much better. That way there is no true villain per se, not in people anyway. They'd be truly neutral on the morality scale. So the real villain will be either society or a corrupt system that average people either don't notice or question. Tho you raised a good point of making wear the costume so he'd be the face while Evelyn would be the tech part of it, much like their company. Complete side tangent, it's very ironic and really sucks that the higher-ups at Pixar and/or Disney gave more time and attention to the sequel no one wanted or asked for with Toy Story 4 (because the previous movie not only felt like a conclusion, but was full intended to be one) all while forcing the filmmakers to rush out this sequel which is one that EVERYONE asked, begged, or even demanded for. And honestly had the most potential for, like this very video goes deeply into
Your idea of having both Winston and Evelyn be Screenslaver -- but for different reasons -- sounds pretty cool. Yeah, that Toy Story 4 release date swap was brutal to learn about.
All of the advanced technology also retroactively makes Syndrome's many inventions feel so much less impressive. The entire setting of the first movie wasn't just some amalgamation of modern and future tech. Everything off the island was just only the 1960s, no mish-mash required, which made the futuristic things Syndrome had made like the hover-vehicles, zero point energy, Nomanisan Island as a whole, advanced rocket technology and of course the Omnidroid feel foreign, strange, and exciting. But I guess modern style hover trains and hydrofoils and super hypnosis technology also just exist. Cause they couldn't think of a way to organically toss it into the setting so they came up with the "oh it's actually a "modern mixed with 1960" excuse when that's not what the first movie was at all. Which is why the commentary feels so inconsistent.

My biggest question for both movies is what happened to the super villains after they outlawed the super hero’s? Like did all of them just go “alright peace” and fuck off somewhere until syndrome showed up? And then after that fight the under miner with like “oh shit supers are back? Bet” like sure the police can handle (at least supposedly in their world) the average robbery that we see Mr. Incredible help with, so I could see them being limited in who they’re allowed to fight (cause also a large percentage of them must have had crazy kill counts against people who would have just spent some time in jail if caught by the police) but what’s the police’s plan for a guy whose main form of transportation is a giant drill under the city?
This critique is more than an hour longer than the movie itself lol
How do you only have 5k subs?! I love this style!
Thank you
goated vid, enjoyed it and liked the format
Thank you
1:28:16 "the story was originally about AI in some way." oh, man. could you imagine how much more interesting the film could have been if they had explored that route? especially with recent news about disney wanting to integrate AI into multiple departments, it could have made for a unique take on how exactly superheroes would grapple with it or how supervillains could utilize it against them, and the movie would have done that years before AI had really started to take hold in the industry itself. such a shame that it seems like they rushed brad bird to write an undercooked sequel that, had they given it the time to properly develop, should've been on par if not similarly great to the 1st. anyway, its always satisfying to find an in-depth analysis on a film that i have a lot of thoughts on but not the brainpower to parse my feelings and this video puts into words just about everything (and organized in chapters!!!) i was thinking beyond reiterating how dumb the characters and the story is. the mischaracterization of bob's character is so unfortunate in how it reads that the only way they can empower helen is by dumbing her husband down and have him misplace his frustration and jealousy on his own wife. you'd think after having a complete mental breakdown over thinking he lost her and the kids from the plane explosion, he'd be a little more... open to letting her take the lead, at least? dude would literally crawl through the depths of Hell if that's what it took to save her. there are plenty of ways to write female empowerment that doesn't need to resort to putting down men like bob just so they can make the women appear more intelligent. i'd rather there not be an incredibles 3 or really any other pixar sequels (for the love of God they better leave ratatouille alone) but should it happen i hope they learn from the mistakes of the 2nd and take their time to understand the characters. people like myself connect deeply with the original for a reason.
Bob’s delivery at 59:31 is also pulling HEAVY emotional weight here too. How you even get a level of emotional destitution this potent is beyond me
With Incredible 3 looming over the horizon, we can only hope that Disney will give Brad Bird the time, money, and especially the freedom he needs to make the best damn film he can. One thing's for certain, unless Pixar changes the way it makes movies, Incredibles 3 is going to look damn uncanny.
I’m one of the people who only really cared about the nostalgia of it. I had a couple questions, but I pretty much overlooked it all because it felt nostalgic. 😂
visually watching feels too much on plate overkill overwhelming for a 2 hrs story to focus on. I like how simple masterpiece 1st movie made, i like that they wanna make more content for it, maybe categorize it as a series, with the same high value budgets
1:06:00 This scene pretty much ruined the movie for me; it was just as excuse to put our heroes back at Square One again, just like in the first movie. Appalling. (The guys yelling at Bob are lucky they didn't wind up in traction, like Bob's old boss!)
The male disrespect is enough for me to not watch it, why would I.
2:31:23 Syndrome: f_cking DIES. Evelyn: "ah she's actually good yass queen let them hear your roar!" Bunch of pμ$$ies.
I specifically hate how they backed down on the Underminer. The words "I AM HERE TO DECLARE WAR ON PEACE AND HAPPINESS" imply that he's on serious business here. There was a game that came out in 2006 called The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer. In it, the Underminer: had an unlimited army of deadly robots invade the surface world, built a machine that will turn the world inside out, so that the surface would become the underground and vice versa, built a bunch of giant robots to level every major city and secure his victory, had a backup plan for every backup plan. And in Incredibles 2 he's just: huehueheuhue imma rob a bank and run away
7 minutes. 7 minues was all they could spare for an arc for her.
