Wow, it's been so many years since I heard this amazing song. From the late 60's-70's, Joni was my favorite vocal artist, along with Judy Collins & Joan Baez. That was followed by my rock-n-roll band phase, then my instrumental jazz phase, but no vocal artist stood out to me over all those years. That is until 3 years ago when I discovered Angelina Jordan. She reminds me so much of Joni how she plays her voice like an instrument & she will be as big as Joni was. Two heavenly, captivating voices, two amazing storytellers, IMO. Thanks for another informative reaction.
your progression is certainly familiar if not exactly the same as mine...I started early on with folk and moved into other genres, some of which are seemingly absurd now! Still haven't found anybody who was a Hoyt Axton fan from those early days.....not one of the absurd ones, as he was great.
Thanks for this Bryden! "Blue" is my favorite album of all time. I have probably listened to Joni as an individual artist more than anyone until Angelina appeared last year for me. Joni's song writing ability is phenomenal. She and Paul Simon are my favorite song writers (that gives you a big hint as to my age, haha). I hope that as Angelina matures she will bring it in this arena as well. Some folks did not care for Joni's styling, but I felt it was incredibly personal and connected. Good stuff here!!

I never got big into instrumental jazz (although I love me some Miles or Herbie). I've seen The Dead more than any band (but I'm not a big deadhead- just like weed, hippies and tie dye. My tastes are quite eclectic. Last year was difficult because all my outdoor music fests were canceled. Camping and live music is my heaven (until Angelina appeared- new heaven, new angel). Did Bonnaroo for 15 years. Festival faves now are jam bands and bluegrass (and jammy bluegrass like Yonder Mountain String Band or Greensky Bluegrass) . Billy Strings is great. There are exceptions. Allman Brothers were a fave and their spawn stay with me-- Warren Haynes, Tedeschi-Trucks keep me connected. But, Angelina is special and I'm hoping that I can get to a concert. I know you understand.
