Those shots of your baby (assuming) are magic. That SL2-S look just seems made for you and your work. Thanks for taking the time and sharing the insight.
Recently sold my SL2-S for the M10. In almost every way the SL2-S is better, but the M10 is smaller and a better experience. So as an EDC I prefer the M10, but wish I could afford to keep the SL2-S for situations where I'm using extremely fast glass or in very low light. It's all about the trade-offs!
My everyday camera is an SL2s and SL90mmF2 APO. I just love the rendering, low light capability and sharpness. I also have a Fuji xt2 with several lenses, but 99% of the time, I reach for the SL2s.
Lovely talk. I own the SL2-s and the M240 but am planning on getting the M10 and use the M240 as backup/travelling camera. Great shots too man! Much appreciated.
I've been getting the itch for a M10/M11 Monochrome. Totally agree with you on the SL lenses. My 50APO is like lugging around a brick all day. Tempted to part ways.
Great vid as always. I shot Leica Ms for 12+ years before making a switch to the Q2/SL2 in 2020. I use the q2 as my everyday carry but watching you with the m10 makes me miss the beauty of that setup. I’m considering a new non APO 35 summicron SL. Apparently much lighter than the other SL lenses. May still not be light enough for an everyday carry but anxious to try it. Beautiful images btw. Be well!
Excellent take on the SL2 vs SL2S vs M bodies. I have the M10R as my EDC and SL2 (with Sigma 35mm f2 DG DN) when I need AF. I enjoy using both camera bodies, but the M10R is super special. I do not shoot video anymore just pics. Cheers
That M10 is an incredibly beautiful camera and you're right that the silver makes it appear even more exotic and desirable to practically everyone else, including me to be honest. What always puzzles me about Leica though is the colour rendering, and whether it's mostly down to the sensor or lenses you use. Would a Panasonic Lumix lens on the SL2 ruin the whole effect? I only have experience of an S5, but both the 35mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/1.8 are both highly capable lenses with some Leica involvement in the production process. Surprisingly perhaps, the S5's colours are also pretty good and its b/w profiles are excellent.
Awesome video Lukas! I sold my sl2s and 24-70mm because the setup was too big and obtrusive, and thought that I could just have my m10p as the only digital camera I need. But I really miss the sl2s - weather sealing, low light, focus peaking when difficult to see the RF in low light, and video which I hope to start doing. I definitely see a great benefit in having both... sl2s with M lenses is so nice and much more manageable for EDC. I think you just convinced me I should rebuy the sl2s or SL2. Curious, what's the max 'usable' iso on the SL2 in your experience? I don't mind a bit of grain, but the extra resolution may be nice to have since I already have 24MP on m10p. Cheers!
I wish I had all money. If I did a SL2-S reporter, Q2 Reporter Mono, M10P reporter and an M11 would be mine. Lucas, I got a Q2 and I love it would love to dive deeper into Leica which system should I logically step into next? The M or the SL? Video isn’t the priority, I have a camera for that.
Anyone know how the weather sealing on the SL2 holds up with Sigma lenses? I’m not going to the Tundra but I’d like to not worry about dusty/ humid conditions while traveling.
I have an M10 silver and got the oportunity to try an SL2 for a few days for a potential switch with a guy. I had it with my Voigtlander 35mm f.2. Everything on the SL2 is better on paper. But I only shoot still and couldn't leave my M10 for the SL2. It's big, heavy, hate the white LEICA text on the front, to buzzy menues, no manual settings at all, had to turn on the camera to see the settings, the OVF kills the EVF every day, manual focus lenses are way better with the rangefinder system compared to focus peaking. The list goes long. As I said, the SL2 are better in almost any way, but not for me. :)
I feel fortunate the M series is perfect for what I do, because it's a very, very satisfying camera to use. Totally get that it's 100% wrong for many shooters though.
you mentioned about the sensor - do you prefer the output from the sl2s or the m10? Obviously if its low light SL2s will be able to capture more, but what about normal or ideal conditions?
So, on a free davinci, can I process a log footage from an SL2-s ? Do you have a tutorial how to edit a log? I thought it’s just changing the file, turns out, there’s more
M11 mono as my EDC and SL2s with m lenses as my if I have an itch for color lol. Curious to know what M lenses are you using for your set up? Thanks for the content bro
Thanks, great video. I have a M10 and M6 and has been thinking about the SL2S. One off topic question came into my mind. How do you handle your film while traveling. I am super stressed about the Airport Security Scanners.
Great video. I have the same M10R + recently added SL2S. So far very happy with the SL2S, feels like a more modern camera and i can use it for both video and photo during the same shoot. One thing I miss during shooting a model is that you loose a split second of eye contact with the talent after every shot, while with the M you just keep looking through the open viewfinder. Need to find something to solve that. I try to learn shooting with both eyes open now. Maybe someone else has a golden solution, would love to hear
So refreshing to watch a camera review with actual great photos - love your work :)
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!

Exactly! Sl2s is the better camera but the m10 has some intangibles that make it perfect for an everyday carry for le
Thanks for the review. I love the way you edit the photos of your m10

That 90mm APO looks awesome, would love to try one out some day!

M10 will be a great addition!

I love my SL2s and agree with your take on it. I've not had the pleasure of anything newer than my old 240 though.
I’ve heard the 240’s are great

Hi Lukas.. I have an MP and an SL2 and I use both.

M10P reporter is a dream.
I would go with the M system, get the full Leica experience, especially if you don’t need video
Thanks brother, I knew you'd know. Yeah it was like $14,000 and I can't swing that on a stills camera haha@@lukasvanderlende
Anyone know how the weather sealing on the SL2 holds up with Sigma lenses? I’m not going to the

I’ve used sigma lenses on mine and the weather sealing has held up nicely. Cameras been covered in dust and none got trough to the sensor

There’s something magically about M cameras, that’s for sure!!
I feel fortunate the M series is perfect for what I do, because it's a very, very satisfying camera to use. Totally get that it's 100% wrong for many shooters though.
I love the M series, but will always need something that films video
@@lukasvanderlende What, M240 video not cutting it? 🤣
@SourPlanet haha not quite 😭😂
do these two cameras have same sensor ? Is the image quality same ?
I don’t think they have the same sensor, but the image quality is pretty comparable
Another great video, 5:48 Would you make a daily carrier with your R mount glass if you didn’t have the M glass option?
Forgot to add, With your SL2S +R glass as your daily carrier
you mentioned about the sensor - do you prefer the output from the sl2s or the m10? Obviously if its low light SL2s will be able to capture more, but what about normal or ideal conditions?
I have to say I prefer the sl2s, both are great but I really enjoy the sl2s for its flexibility. But there is something really special about the m10
So, on a free davinci, can I process a log footage from an SL2-s ? Do you have a tutorial how to edit a log? I thought it’s just changing the file, turns out, there’s more
I don’t have a tutorial yet, but I am moving from premiere pro to davinci, so I will make one soon!
@@lukasvanderlende I can’t wait! Yeah.. see, when I try to use the classic rec 409, the skin tone turns red
How do you make those flashing yellow framing video effects?
M11 mono as my EDC and SL2s with m lenses as my if I have an itch for color lol. Curious to know what M lenses are you using for your set up? Thanks for the content bro

everything below iso 800 is no problem
Ask for hand inspection. The new scanners can ruin any film speed.
Film safe bags. They really work when TSA says no (other countries).
Wish the SL2-S was lighter. The weight killed my love. I’m a M11 shooter now
It’s a heavy, but well balanced camera!

Why can I only get 360p on this video?
Apparently the 4k hasn’t fully processed yet, sorry!
I really enjoyed your video. Your attitude towards gear, and your relaxed mood and talk really fits well with your content. All the best from Norway.
SL2-S is an excellent camera but in 7 months the SL3 the AF will be significantly improved. M10 is a great camera
360 P?? What’s wrong?
Must have went live before the 4k processed, sorry! 😅
The SL2 is not an EDC. That’s a big boy.
M10 with a pancake
M10 is definitely my first choice
