no customer ever asks for getting rid of physical buttons, yet for some reason manufacturers keep doing it... Very strange & unnecessary! You can make the car EV, more smart.. but we need physical buttons for basic needs... no digital assistant can replace HVAC & music controls..
You mentioned the front end as still being necessary to house electronics, the other major reason is for crashworthiness: the longer the crumple zone, the lower the deceleration, the better the survivability. I think you were tight in the back, they should likely lengthen the wheelbase 5 cm. to give more headroom in the back seat (have the head entirely under the roof, rather than hitting the pillar. Looks really great. I hope they keep the doors.
I want simple and reliable not a concept car, ive been waiting for an suv electric for three years, the time is near, it might be the kia niro electric, exciting times can hardly wait for the bev of my dreams
Great video. Looking forward to seeing the production version. Hope they keep the sliding rear door concept. More vehicles need that to make getting the kids in and out easier.
Looks great! I have a BMW i3 right now, and would never go back to an ICE-age car. This VW I.D. Crozz really tickles my senses. Could very well get into pole position as my next car! Two questions though: Fundamentally important, what will be the charging options? And, do the rear doors open without first opening the front doors (as in my present car)?
Maybe offer some display buttons (50x50 pixels) which are reprogrammable. I.e.: two buttons on the left side of the steering wheel which can be used for climate control (temperature up and down) or in another mode for volume. The display indicates which function each button has. This could be useful imo.

I think VW had to do better job with that huge R&D budget. Because all the "improvements" or "new features" they showed in this concept have just been used already by Tesla in Model X almost 3 years ago! VW has to imagine what Elon Musk is planning to do in 2020 instead of to copy his 3 years old car.
By the way, those touch-sensitive buttons on piano black surface are very ridiculous and quite far from proper usability. The "Future" is not just touch-sensitive buttons or fancy LCD screens guys.
mehmet ata that model x is also more than $40,000 more, I think you’re forgetting that. You can’t just compare every electric SUV and every electric Sedan to Tesla’s $70,000+ luxury cars. Yes, Elon got there first but those cars are outrageously expensive
Gewdvibes Yes, Tesla is asking quite a lot money for today but at least they have an improvement plan such as model 3. So what about the VW? They spent 15,5 billion euros for R&D in 2016 but result is just a regular Golf with a tiny battery pack. What an invention..
mehmet ata not all of that went towards EV development and you do understand that you can’t just crank out a fully from-scratch vehicle in one year right? That’s why they’re targeting 2020. That’s where their R&D money is going and 2020 is when their investments will come to production. The Bolt EV took more than 2 1/2 years to reach production, the model X took 3 years to reach production, like I said, you don’t just crank out cars because “you invested 15.5B” and out comes a car from thin air because you threw money at it. Sure, they could crank out a brand new car in 1 year if you want an unsafe, impractical car that breaks down every 5000 miles and has dozens of recalls
What I think many miss is the VW Group and all their brands will leverage the billions in R&D money (in reserves not borrowed) and can push this functionality across a broad array of products. I applaud Tesla for kick-starting the EV revolution in a meaningful way, BUT they simply do not have the resources to do autonomous driving, large scale EV production, and do both at a level of quality and detail needed over the long term without a cash rich benefactor with a long-term investment horizon. The VW group has already started architecting their OTA update infrastructure but can also achieve lower unit costs because it can be applied across the entire VW family of products at a lower unit cost. I wish Tesla and Apple would form a partnership BEFORE Tesla becomes financially weakened to the point of looking desperate for an acquisition partner.
Mike Hoffman that’s what they’re doing lol there has to be a concept for there to be a production model, this seems like an actual practical concept not just some crazy super futuristic non realistic non practical design, nothing about this concept is impractical or far fetched

You need to develop technologies, and that's what concepts are used for. Otherwise you'll end up with a car like Tesla's, burning teenagers alive inside cause they couldn't escape once power is down.
Pretty sure that current US regulations require external side view mirrors on production cars. I seem to recall Tesla making some effort to get new laws enacted allowing use of cameras because the drag from mirrors actually has fairly significant impact on range for EVs. That being said, having the display for side cameras in the center is ridiculous. It should be projected onto the side window where the drive would expect to look if checking mirrors when changing lanes.
I have a good feeling that the way we see the exterior design will be the same as what comes off the production line. The side profile looks fresh, new and exciting. I don't want to buy an EV that looks like an existing suv that was retrofitted to be an EV? I hope the USA market approves the front horizontal light bar and illuminated VW badge. I would hope that the rear seats will fold flat since this is supposed to be an SUV that can expand the rear cargo space into the back seating area? I am anxious to see the final cut for market and pricing.
All they need to do is to produce the car with a range of 300 miles per charge and price it at $35k and then they can beat Tesla. The more electric car out on the market, it will increase competition and drive the price down. Electric car should not be for the rich folks, it should be for the everyday folks who work hard.
And thank you Grohmann with German engineers to triple the production at Gigafactory and cut costs by two thirds. World is going to be much better off in 2020
Certain design cues are awfully similar to the Jaguar I-Pace. Take instance the cladding at the bottom of the doors. Jaguar deliberately placed them there to break the "large size" of the doors. The cladding also indicates the size of the batteries on the floor of the vehicle. The shape of the panoramic moonroof, especially the shape near the rear looks eerily like the I-Pace's.

Thomas - Congratulations on another excellently produced and informative Autogefühl video : )) Your remark with regard to "no buttons?" elicited a very interesting and convincing point of view from your guest, Klaus Bischoff . . . and that is the ability to update or configure the car according to developments, as time goes on. Aesthetic appreciation is of course a matter of taste, so this Crozz in my view, is not quite as successful as the I.D. Concept or the Buzz. Perhaps by drawing the "greenhouse" a little taller, it will resolve two problems at the same time: it will give you a little more "breathing room" for your legs and allow you to sit a little bit higher WHILE making the four doors look a little less slab sided. On another technicality, It is quite possible that the lit LED VW badges and accents will receive regulatory approval in several countries as long as they fall below a certain lumen level. Continued success with your presentations!
Thanks! As u can see from our the driving parts, we use a clip on for recording those. The big mic is full intention for best sound quality and least background noise which u then of course dont hear. And for more details on the microphone: ua-cam.com/video/q8mbwezd_VY/v-deo.html
VW´s new I.D. models and the MEB seem to be very promising in the future and all brands of the VW AG will profit from it.👍 Can´t wait to see the first models on the road around 2020.✅ Still a long time to go…
So I heard that the ID Crozz, or whatever they name it, will cost more than $50k with an 83Kw battery and dual motors. In order for this to be a car for the masses that is affordable, VW needs to bring the price down about $10K?
For me the back seats need to be reviewed. I would rather have a standard three seat rear instead of two, making it a five seater. I am sure the design was for comfort but I’m not sure about it in the back in the current form
I wish they would do a porsche 911-like Electric vw , since you can place a lighter motor in the back for better weight distribution, that would make sense
How do you open the doors when it runs out of power? What if a child or animal is stuck inside? What if an adult is stuck inside? What if the driver is stuck indide...
Honestly, mirrors and door handles are just fine. There is absolutely no point in throwing in a bunch of new components with relatively untested ergonomics and reliability just to have the car looking a bit cooler. And seriously, reducing drag for what, the cumulative energy saving of 1 kWh per year? Things break, and in terms of cars, users have to deal with the consequences when they do inevitably break. Imagine driving along, when your side mirrors stop working, or worse, get lagged behind. Imagine trying to go to work one morning, and your handle-less car door won't open... Reliability, reliability, reliability, VW! You are not building a supercar. People are going to want to pay around 30k-45k USD for a small SUV from VW, and they'll want it for every day driving. Keep it simple & stupid. And FFS, give it a better steering column. You can't just assume that people who buy electric cars with auto pilot features don't give a shit for their driving experience.
Reidailha1 1. e-Golf is not an SUV, 2. e-Golf is built on a frame meant for a gas car, this is an electric car built from the ground up for electric only. Repurposing gas cars is going to take us nowhere, I’m very happy with the ID hatchback that’s going to replace the Golf
An electric Golf with wider range and double electric motors (fron and back) might be made based on longer Golf variant (wagon brake) model and that would be even more intersting if would have the Alltrack trims & features and a bit of off-road capability.. but only Volkswagen CEO knows if they will try do it or not ! ;)
You describe features from... Tesla... :)))))) Front and rear motors, 4 wheel traction, a bit of "offroadability"... Only God knows, if... maybe, if not too expensive... in 2050. LOOOOOL
Warning, the DSG gearbox has technical problems that appear at around fifty thousand kilometers. From a bad personal experience, I had to sell my car and my wife's car at great loss due to these technical problems and the negative attitude of the agent Please investigate and check with users before making decision
> care about drag > make it really high with a flat front BTW, why radically change two things, introducing a new model AND seriously electrifying something? Less risky and more commited would be offering a proper electric version of the Golf. The e-Golf is a damn good start there. As mentioned before: Concept cars are a waste. New models are expensive to introduce. Seems like a sub-optimal strategy.
Great review and interview Thomas. I really like the design aesthetic VW is going for. Refreshing, but still Volkswagen. It is good to hear that Herr Bischoff reckons he can get most of the car to market as is. He does like his ginormous wheels 😄. We do have to accept that certain aspects of it will not be doable under current regulations e.g., wing mirrors versus wing cameras. Nevertheless, I like the design of the interior, the seats do indeed look very comfortable and, for the exterior, the coupe crossed with SUV design is very nice.
how do you know ? can you already predict the price drop in future Tesla cars once their gigafactories are fully running ? answer is you cannot and only time will tell the price difference.
zaphod2 500,000 is nothing in terms of car sales lol and no I can’t predict the price of a Tesla once there are multiple giga factories but I know for sure that Volkswagen is going to price their I.D. SUV at $40,000 or less and I’m not sure a more efficient manufacturing process is going to drive the model x down $40,000 in price
European brands should be brave as Tesla to catch them. It is not too late. For example we call it concept but Model X is as crazy as this and it's on production.
Exactly that´s the big ignorance and arrogance which will woop the German manufacturers´asses! :))))) Tesla doesn´t make big money YET, because: 1. it´s a veeeeery young car manufacturer 2. it develops everything from scratch 3. they reeeeealy INVEST money 4. they reeeeealy invest in innovations. 5. they are not SACRIFICING EVERXTHING FOR THE SAKE OF SHORT TERM PROFIT 6.they do what they do with passion & convinction - and not because... oh, shit, other brands did it, so, oh-kaaaay, let´s also pretend to develop electric cars.
Well, I for one compare this to a Model X and the loss of three passengers isn't a good idea as people like me have families and a large four seat'er is more or less a total waste of space. Now several times you talked about the cost of the Model X and again for those of us that do have families we already pay for the space we need to take our families to and from. So, in conclusion keep up the great work but keep in mind it's purpose is for those of us with families as if you fail at that then it will show in the markets as a lack of sales as I will not buy a large four seating car as it's a waste of space and doesn't suit my needs.
What is there to update about a volume nob? Buttons don't age but software does. Please don't fall in the trend of touch buttons. There is nothing worse than scrolling menus to find an option while driving. Also who actually prefers to talk to the car instead of pushing a simple button?
Great... the exterior cameras will be the first thing to get destroyed, if you scratch them against some wall in the parking place. The designer should visit some more semesters.
Would NEVER pay much for a VW brand car. The company STILL needs to clean up its past 'dirty diesel' fiasco. Do this by keeping retail prices same as or lower than Tiguan (no premium pricing or over USD$30K). These will then "Sell like Hotcakes" and rebuild reputation.
@DistriktA I certainly won't at this point in time. Instead, I purchased a Tesla. So far, it been a decent experience for me. WV has great vehicles but understand that I do not appreciate the scandal. There was no need for it. This was a problem with their very senior management for misleading. They need to understand to not do it again.
Pro Tip: It is impossible to hurt the earth. Earth was here for billions of years before us and will be here after. Humans will evolve and die off in the blink of an eye as far as the earth is concerned. When we're gone, the earth will grow over any evidence we were ever here. However, we can hurt ourselves by making the earth unlivable. If environmentalism played to the angle that we're hurting ourselves rather than the red herring of damaging the rock we're attached to, we'd be decades further down the timeline of progress. John Doe doesn't care about a rain forest 12,000 miles away. He cares about his own back yard. Instead of showing him a polar bear clinging to a chunk of ice, the green movement should have shown his dog swimming across his lawn.
VW should remove all the unnecessarily extra features that drive up production costs.

I really like this video, please bring more relaxed videos like this one :)

Everything sound nice, but what about charging thous cars? What about charging time, infrastructure, price, etc?
Evs for family’s are not jet design? 7 sits like Tesla model X?
I don’t like how it looks.....
Did VW fire their old designer?
Interessater wagen #Autogefühl 🏎❤
I’ll get this over the cybertruck..looks more futuristic
+David Bee yes i found that aspect also very interesting!
Oh, ya I am buying for sure. Tired of paying for gas
Everything is great except the "fully touch operated" part. Buttons for HVAC and other basics, PLEASE!
Where can I get those shoes Thomas? Thank you
see the video description!
Almost 200 000 💪🏻
+kamiloo2 yeah!!
Hallo Thomas,
wird es auch eine deutsche Version von dem Video geben?
LG
+blueorange4444 schau mal nach dem text auf unser website!
Great in depth video! Thank you.
+Frank Reid thanks frank!
Flash forward a year..... and what is the status of the ID crozz and the ID hatch MR THOMAS??
No news atm, but we ll keep u updated
My dream car!
September 10, 2019........OK, time for a lavaliere microphone.. Hands free. Just watched your ID.3 walk-thru. Good job.
Thanks! As u can see from our the driving parts, we use a clip on for recording those. The big mic is full intention for best sound quality and least background noise which u then of course dont hear.
And for more details on the microphone:

VW´s new I.D. models and the MEB seem to be very promising in the future and all brands of the VW AG will profit from it.👍 Can´t wait to see the first models on the road around 2020.✅ Still a long time to go…
Much better than AUDI and pls don't disappoint with the range.
The ID.4 looks quite nice, but why don't the final cars ever look as good as the concept cars? !!
What's the price?! If majority of people can't afford it then it really doesn't matter
I mentioned an estimation as far as I remember
So I heard that the ID Crozz, or whatever they name it, will cost more than $50k with an 83Kw battery and dual motors. In order for this to be a car for the masses that is affordable, VW needs to bring the price down about $10K?
Hey VW let me know when this goes up for Pre-Order!
Mark me down for one two🤑
For me the back seats need to be reviewed. I would rather have a standard three seat rear instead of two, making it a five seater. I am sure the design was for comfort but I’m not sure about it in the back in the current form
They could keep the exterior design but change the interior to seat 5 and not 4, and change that glass roof and maybe put solar panel roof.
A very attractive vehicle. Build it just as it is VW. I’d buy one as is.
I wish they would do a porsche 911-like
Electric vw , since you can place a lighter motor in the back for better weight distribution, that would make sense
Scrap this... we just need an e-Golf with a 60 kWh battery...
MQB was already designed with EV in mind.... VW is definitely playing the game of selling ICE as long as possible
Only God knows, if... maybe, if not too expensive... in 2050. LOOOOOL
Musicsson :
Not just Tesla specs i can see way past the Tesla brand to models like Jaguar i-Pace too available today .. (>__
Can you make longer videos ? I would prefer 5-10 hour car reviews, or longer, you know I have all the time in the world.
UA-cam search Autogefuehl geneva motor show 2018
Warning, the DSG gearbox has technical problems that appear at around fifty thousand kilometers. From a bad personal experience, I had to sell my car and my wife's car at great loss due to these technical problems and the negative attitude of the agent
Please investigate and check with users before making decision
no DSG for electric vehicles
Looks good, an electric Arteon would be cool
Seat fabric is taken from a 1980's 2CV.
An iconic car that was built for decades.
> care about drag
> make it really high with a flat front
BTW, why radically change two things, introducing a new model AND seriously electrifying something?
Less risky and more commited would be offering a proper electric version of the Golf. The e-Golf is a damn good start there. As mentioned before: Concept cars are a waste. New models are expensive to introduce. Seems like a sub-optimal strategy.
Amazing seats.
Magnifique !
What will be the range?
hopefully 350 or 400
That's a big microphone!

+Richard McFarlane-Cen 👍
You need something besides a large and heavy batterysfor power source
Here's my proposal Volkswagen should make a total new series called the
Volts-Wagen ;)
Get it Volts because it's electric :)
Looks better than a Model X. It`s only a decade too late.
zaphod2 it’s not late at all, if Volkswagen sticks to its guns then it’s going to be $40,000+ cheaper than the model x and in my opinion a lot better
zaphod2 also I don’t understand how it’s late when electric vehicle tech is still evolving? Lol makes no sense
how do you know ? can you already predict the price drop in future Tesla cars once their gigafactories are fully running ? answer is you cannot and only time will tell the price difference.
You do realize there are 500.000+ orders on the Model 3 ?
Do i really need to explain that VW did miss the party ?
zaphod2 500,000 is nothing in terms of car sales lol and no I can’t predict the price of a Tesla once there are multiple giga factories but I know for sure that Volkswagen is going to price their I.D. SUV at $40,000 or less and I’m not sure a more efficient manufacturing process is going to drive the model x down $40,000 in price
Very interesting video.
locks like Mercedes from the back
and some angels front locks like BMW X6. . and front bumper
European brands should be brave as Tesla to catch them. It is not too late. For example we call it concept but Model X is as crazy as this and it's on production.
Americans are not famous with their build quality. Even Cadillac has worse build quality than a Volkswagen Golf.
Tesla doesn’t make any money so auto manufacturers aren’t too keen on ”catching up” to them. Tesla is not a threat.
Paulo Almeida have you been in one? I own a tesla X and a BMW 5 series. Tesla build quality seems as good or even better to me.
Exactly that´s the big ignorance and arrogance which will woop the German manufacturers´asses! :)))))
Tesla doesn´t make big money YET, because:
1. it´s a veeeeery young car manufacturer
2. it develops everything from scratch
3. they reeeeealy INVEST money
4. they reeeeealy invest in innovations.
5. they are not SACRIFICING EVERXTHING FOR THE SAKE OF SHORT TERM PROFIT
6.they do what they do with passion & convinction - and not because... oh, shit, other brands did it, so, oh-kaaaay, let´s also pretend to develop electric cars.
Ups, Norwegian, sorry - my statement was a reply to Olli Tuovinen. :)
Regards!
You should see how many haters against Tesla are here in Germany...
Finally a new design from VW, lets hope the production models will retain most of the design.... Not usre with VW.
What is there to update about a volume nob? Buttons don't age but software does. Please don't fall in the trend of touch buttons. There is nothing worse than scrolling menus to find an option while driving. Also who actually prefers to talk to the car instead of pushing a simple button?
Mercedes sells cars with illuminated front emblem, it’s perfectly legal, at least here in America.
In Germany every shit is "illegal"... :)
Great... the exterior cameras will be the first thing to get destroyed, if you scratch them against some wall in the parking place.
@DistriktA OK Troll. Go back to the woods
17:28 Damn, how tall is that camera guy?!
Great move to electric cars! The next step is cars running with FREE ENERGY. This is the ultimate
solution for us to stop damaging our planet Earth.
I really like exterior, but interior... I don't know.. Somehow looks empty :D
Oh, that´s minimalism... A nice word for lack of ideas.
Model x seats 7 people how is VW going make a four seater EV and expect sales
