- OSMOTHERLEY near Northallerton in the North Yorkshire Moors, England. Join me as I visit Osmotherley for a walking tour around this beautiful quiet village to see why it's such a popular visitor and tourist destination
Osmotherley is a village and civil parish in the Hambleton hills in North Yorkshire, six miles north-east of Northallerton. The village is at the western edge of the North York Moors National Park. Osmotherley is on the route of the 110-mile Cleveland Way, one of the National Trails established by Natural England.
A captivating local legend suggests that Osmotherley was named after the mother of a villager named Oswald or Osmund. The story goes that the mother ventured out to gather firewood during winter and never returned. Worried by her absence, her son set out to find her, and the village eventually came to be named after her.
Osmotherley exudes a timeless charm, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a peaceful escape amidst breathtaking natural landscapes and historical intrigue.

المنازل رائعة هنا ومزينة 🌷😀🌺
صحيح جدا. إنه مكان جميل
We used to go to the Catholic church from Hutton rugby north Yorkshire, after church we would go for a long walk on the fells
Lovely stuff - perfect in summer I bet
Yes the walks are lovely, but you have to watch out for the adders
Not far from Osmotherley is the "Sheep Wash" a beautiful small stream on the edge of the NY Moors. Also there is a resovoir near to it. People who have done the Lyke Wake Walk (40 miles across the moors) from Ravenscar finishing at Osmotherley. The walk has an interesting story and worth a read. A bit too far for a Gimbal Walk and it is often done overnight. Thanks once again Neil.
You should go to flammbrough head north Yorkshire, it has steps into the water like Ireland " giant causeway "
I"m heading that way in the summer for sure
Very nice. I grew up in a village like this in Shropshire, so no, I wouldn't like to live there but a lovely little video Neil 👍
Thank you
If you go back to north devon, i would love it if you visited Croyde. Thank you for all your films, I really enjoy them. Diane Gregory
Hi there - is that Croyde Bay?
Ys that's right. Diane
Yorkshire always is beautiful,in every corner, every village,i'v never seen a west bromwich, maybe in this please we see them,
Ah yes I will do that
@@GimbalWalkTV ok,thanks
The Queen Catherine is one of two pubs in England that bear our future Queens name ! Unfortunately many of the houses are second homes in the village.
That's sad to hear. Everywhere I go seems to have this trouble now. It's killing our small villages and seaside towns
I visit a lot of the North Yorkshire towns as I live under an hour away. I live in a beautiful area. I'd love to know if you would consider going to the Isles of Scilly. Just thought I'd ask.
Looks like Emmerdale but less drama😂
ha ha ha yes! less murders and accidents!
Do you acquire a Up ' North accent while you're there?
I already have one 🤣
Part of the North Yorkshire moors is on the " pennine way "
Ill have to look that up as dont' know what that is!
@@GimbalWalkTV the pennine way starts from Scarborough to Sutton bank near thirsk north Yorkshire ,it's like the Cleveland way.
Sorry to be pedantic but the Pennine Way is Edale Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholme in Scotland and it is the Cleveland Way that goes from Filey through Osmotherleyto Helmsley. R.@@heathermurray9939
@@heathermurray9939The Pennine Way goes nowhere near Scarborough. It starts in Edale, Derbyshire, and goes up to Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.
@@markcollinson5665 Quite right. Some people seem to have a very hazy idea of their country's geography!
Do you ever go to the Azores on holiday?
No never been!
Locals travel to either northallerton or Teesside to work
Ah I see - interesting
Teeside always seems miles away to me
Osmotherley IS a pretty village, but spoilt by visitors' parked cars. That's one reason I wouldn't wamt to live there. If you can, read George Jewitt's "Cross Talk, an Osmotherley Scrap-Book." There is so much more of interest in the village and you need to go inside places like churches and chapels, not just trudge through, getting incidental shots of cars and rubbish containers. Perhaps you film as in the Winter Walks TV series. You keep the camera nice and steady, but the place seems a bit barren without visible people. Yes, they WERE audible! I loved the friendly dog. but he was about the only sign of life.
The collar on the dog said "Do not feed", right?
I wonder if it's on a special diet for health reasons or maybe she has the habit of befriending tourists to beg for food lol
Think it just get fed too much!
