  • CORFE CASTLE DORSET | The most beautiful village in England?
Welcome to the amazing Corfe Castle near Swanage and Sandbanks in Dorset, and one of the prettiest villages in England. We take a walking tour around the village from the Square to the Castle and more!.
Nestled amidst the rolling hills of Dorset, England, lies the quaint village of Corfe Castle. Its picturesque charm and historical significance weave a captivating tapestry, luring visitors to explore its timeless beauty.
Corfe Castle is perhaps best known for the dramatic ruins of its namesake, a majestic fortress that has stood guard over the village for centuries. The castle's origins date back to the 10th century, and its walls have witnessed pivotal moments in English history, including the brutal murder of King Edward the Martyr in 978. During the English Civil War, the castle became a Royalist stronghold, valiantly enduring two sieges by Parliamentarian forces. Though partially demolished in 1646, the castle ruins remain a powerful symbol of the area's rich past.

Beyond the castle's shadow, the village itself exudes a timeless charm. Narrow lanes lined with traditional thatched-roof cottages meander through the village, their golden hues glowing in the afternoon sun. Quaint shops selling local crafts and charming cafes offering a taste of Dorset's culinary delights beckon visitors to explore and unwind.
Here are some reasons why Corfe Castle is a popular visitor and tourist destination:
Corfe Castle boasts a rich history, evident in its well-preserved architecture and the imposing presence of the castle ruins. The village offers a glimpse into a bygone era, where time seems to have slowed down.
The village is nestled amidst the Purbeck Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. Rolling hills, lush greenery, and a backdrop of the dramatic Jurassic Coast create a picture-perfect setting for exploration.
Corfe Castle is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking trails weave through the countryside, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The village is also a great base for exploring the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its fossils and geological wonders.
Corfe Castle caters to visitors of all ages. The Model Village, a 1/20th scale replica of the village as it appeared in 1646, is a particular favorite among children. The village also offers a variety of family-friendly activities, such as picnicking in the park, visiting the nearby Purbeck Park for a day of adventure, or simply exploring the charming streets.
Corfe Castle offers a delightful selection of restaurants and cafes serving up an array of culinary options. From traditional Dorset fare to international cuisine, there's something to tempt every palate. Sample local seafood, indulge in a quintessential cream tea, or savor a delicious pub lunch - Corfe Castle's culinary scene promises a satisfying experience.
Whether you're a history buff, a nature lover, or simply seeking a charming escape, Corfe Castle has something to offer everyone. With its rich heritage, stunning scenery, and welcoming atmosphere, this captivating village is sure to leave a lasting impression.

Wonderful video, visited here for just a few hours in 2018. Had a wonderful cream tea just below the castle, I think it was part of the National Trust. I told myself I must come back to spend more time and your video confirms my idea! Thanks again, great video. 😊

Lovely ❤video, we visited this place in 2013. A must for all Enid Blyton 🇬🇧Fans (many in Germany 🇩🇪 and France 🇫🇷). There is a Enid Blyton trail, more information about that on the homepage of Dorset Tourism. Thank you so much 😊 ❤

What a lovely street. Especially the cottages with thatched roofs. I would love to live there too Neil, but that traffic and the noise that goes with it....pass! I love castles and never seen this one before. Thanks! ;)

It is lovely, we were there a week ago. However the high volume of traffic spoilt our enjoyment. There are so many wonderful villages across England it is impossible to say which one is the prettiest!

As I mentioned the other day, the area is one of my favourite southern holiday spots. I'm still there now, I never want to go home. I don't want to brag, but I got a free ice cream in Corfe last year. I still haven't got a clue why, but she was a lovely lady in the shop 😄

Beautiful place been there loads of times as Mum lived in Swanage. You need to win the lottery to live there every thing in Corfe price wise makes your eyes water shop wise also. Next time you visit Swanage on your return trip as you head out of Swanage you bypass Herston Look for the signs to LANGTON MATRAVERS this route takes you quite up hill eventually back into Corfe its a beautiful route simply the best as you are so high up and Corfe Castle Wow Wow Wow appears out of no where. Its a very narrow road in some places and very winding as you drop down & down but a stunning view.

I have fond memories from a few years ago visiting Corfe via steam train from Swanage but the thing I remember most was the vast number of cyclists in the village at the time, there were literally hundreds I had never seen so many in one place, and they were all the colourful lycra brigade ones as well 🤣🤣🤣

I'm going to ask a stupid question here. At 5.46 and again at 13.44, a chimney is shown directly above a door. I know it should mean a fireplace directly below, but it means all that weight of the stack above a door? It just looks odd.
