As a writer, I can say with maximum confidence that getting alone and talking through your thoughts to yourself is a great way to organize your thoughts. No shame whatsoever, man!
I'm really glad that I'm not the only person who does this. I'll have full on conversations and voice out ideas for something and always felt ashamed of this behaviour. Glad to know I shouldn't be!
Gaming critiques (at least the well made ones) are some of the most enjoyable content especially for a game that you have have many hours into, I usually can't relate to a critique if I haven't played the game to a certain extent, but they are still enjoyable nonetheless.
@@AzulaOTP bro I play 60 hours of this game on ps4 it was a decent game gun play was fun and I liked the story a lot but the world was lifeless and the ai was on another level of shit never mind the technical bugs. As someone who's been wanting to make reviews, This is all very helpful. And thank you for the motivation near the end. I've always had a "fear of failing," which makes it hard to start things that I've never tried before, but it's far past time I actually dive in.
yeh there really is no excuses, it takes me soooo frickin long for me to record and edit videos because my laptops still worth £3 but I still make it happen
You lowkey didn’t even talk about how to write your reviews. You didn’t talk about what to look for or review in a game. What system or structure you grow through or look for in a game. Nothing deep about your critique or review. You just talked about your set up and how you record the game. Then when you finally got to how you structure your reviews you said basically just do it yourself. Not hate here. All love. I just wanted more.
To expand on what Luke was saying about not needing a god tier system or luxury cards to capture great footage. When I first got started capturing I was using an HD60 from El Gato that goes for between 100-200$ and I've seen them low as 50$ used. I was connecting that to a computer that was AWFUL. It was a 150$ pawn shop computer with a j1900 processor which is so bad lol It's like a 2.4GHz on 4 cores that didn't have a dedicated GPU or any feature worth mentioning. I used that set-up to record AND edit gaming montages that are on my channel dating back to 2015. If you don't think a generic capture card that's a decade old and a cheap computer that's less powerful than today's phones can't accomplish the feat then check out my very oldest video which is an advanced warfare montage that could still rival some of the stuff being uploaded today.
@@MontyZander I said "next step is doing it without plagiarizing." As in he plagiarized other creators to get wherever he is today. What more is there to elaborate? I'm sure you can find info on that on this very website.
@Wally West agreed, if I had to sum it up in one word, I'd go with "soulless". Kinda like if a computer ai was tasked with creating it's own critiques based solely on copying what made his predecessors successful without understanding why. Another word I would use is disingenuous. But that's my 3rd comment on him so I must be an uber-hater at this point.
@Luke Stephens we appreciate your work as a casual youtube viewer I love seeing when you put out somthing that I'm interested in and knowing I'm getting a well though out critique not just half thought out or knee jerk reactions

3:42 Mentioning writing down time stamps to the notes, I've been curious for years on how you'd keep track of the time stamps to notes while playing/recording the game footage. It's one thing if a buddy writes the notes & matching timecodes down for you but what if you're doing so by yourself? It's like being in a middle of streaming a game and trying to remember when a highlightable moment happened at a certain point in a stream... then struggling to remember what time that moment happened.
I did a 2 hour long critique of Batman: The Telltale Series on my channel where I even interviewed actors from the game. Unfortunately I don't have much of an audience so it didn't get many views

I also hate couch gaming i need the screen to be close to my face and i dont like being bothered when gaming and i like using headphones so a desk or comfortable spot in my room is just fine
I enjoy your reviews and your voice is very eloquent and you get honest opinions both good and bad... you dont just trash to trash you give critique which is much better than the huge review website... so thanks for what you do.
Hey, Luke I recently purchased all the hardware necessary to make content. However, I was curious as to what software you are using to make thumbnails. Also what software is used to edit in post?
