As someone who has considered making video essays for quite a while but hasn’t because the process seemed long and a bit daunting, this video really helped both inspire me and demystified the process a lot so thank you so much for making this!
Troy, don’t sell yourself short, you’re definitely one of the best video essayists about films and comics! Though, there are other channels out there who are also great. But thanks for the awesome videos and this one might come in useful for me so thanks!
This will help so many people. Even if you make a lot of content already. There is always more to learn, so being able to hear your process really helps.
Here's a couple of helpful tip I learned (more to come periodically): -Slowing down/speeding up footage, adding a filter, or changing the color-grading can really help in preventing copyright strikes. -Have a video that did badly and a video that is doing very well? Link to the poorly performing one in your end card!
As someone who’s been doing video essays for maybe almost a year I will say when trying to do stuff like godzilla(favorite Franchise) it’s really hard to get footage because of course toho is very strict when it comes to copyright. So doing a vid I have planned will be fun to edit 💀
as a "content creator" this video actually did inform me of some things I didn't know! do you think this'll just be a one-off video or do you think you'll make more like it in the future? (like how you make your prewrites/film pitches? as I'm currently trying to write a superhero story but am dealing with things like writers block, but seeing your process may help out)
This video was very helpful, especially all the section of the video where you talk about copyright. I never hear anything about copyright when people try and give you tips on how to make UA-cam videos.
Thanks troy, I've been making content for about 3 years, but it is very helpful. I didn't know copyright strikes expire. I really appreciate this video mate. Much love ❤
Oh my gosh, thank you so much! You have no idea how helpful this video was! I have been wanting to make essays at the next level forever and I’m so tired of just using Photos! I had no idea that USB disc player drives were still a thing! The last one that I had was years ago on a very old windows machine before I myself got an iMac and final cut pro. Now I have a tangible goal to hopefully make this a reality! I have cerebral palsy, and I really want to show that having a disability doesn’t mean that you can’t use your voice if you have one, and have something to say! Thanks again!
This was a fantastic breakdown of the process, and definitely insightful. I'm still trying to figure my channel out but I wanna move toward making video essays, so thank you for this.
This is a great resource, been looking for a shortish video explaining the entire video essay process for maybe a year or so. Best one I’ve found in that time, for sure. The section on copyright stuff was damn useful.
This video came at a good time. I was just thinking about starting a channel and doing video essays, but felt I was missing a few things and didn't have that push to get started. But after watching this I think I'm ready. Thank you
This video was extremely informative about making UA-cam content. I’ll have to check out Final Cut Pro someday and see what it is like. Also, I’m glad you also talked about how to deal with copyright claims, and strikes as well, something I think every UA-camr would find annoying or scary
This is great. Editing at double speed is genius, I can't believe I've never thought of that. But what I really want to know is where you got that shirt. 🤔
Is that copy of Everything Everywhere All at Once a hint you're gonna do an EEAAO video? If not would you consider doing one? I'd love to hear your takes on the movie as it's solidly the best movie I saw last year and probably my favorite movie of all time and I think it's a genuinely important message for most people! Also this video is super helpful!!!
Right now I'm stuck trying to make a half-decent thumbnail and I haven't even started learning video editing but hopefully I'll be able to use this video as a template to eventually get a Video out
I really want to start making UA-cam videos pitching comic book movies kind of like your pre-write series (I have a great idea for a young Superman movie I've just been sitting on) so thank you for this video
Hi! Just subscribed. What is the most efficient way of acquiring clips of movies to go with the VoiceOver? Just screen recording or individual clip downloading?
I once uploaded a video with my own music in it and it got copyright claimed and I appealed it, stating it was my song and even gave info about the release only I would have access to and it still got rejected 😭
If I don’t have the blue ray for the footage, where else I can I go for footage? If I screen record footage and keep it under 5-6 seconds will I still get a copyright claim?
What a strange UA-cam channel. I’m really hoping you’re doing well over there on the other side of the screen. Join a community or something rather than making slops like this, UA-cam already have enough slops

Don't! They suck!
I’ve had so much anxiety surrounding the copyright claims of video essays but I feel so so much better now. I’m so excited to get started!
It's always awesome to see other people's process!
hello comic drake! 👋
This is one of the best videos describing how UA-cam's copyright system works, so clear and simple!

When in doubt just add unrelated gaming footage
@@HuneeBruh hmm maybe a good idea
Thanks for the tips. I’m 14 and have been thinking a lot about making videos at some point, specifically video essays and character analyses.

I find writing a story/plot very easy, the only thing I can’t do is write a script, I find it very hard.

This was a fantastic breakdown of the process, and definitely insightful. I'm still trying to figure my channel out but I wanna move toward making video essays, so thank you for this.
Thank you so much for making educational videos like this. It really helps me, especially with the copyright. Love the content!

This is a great exploration on this topic, super helpful .
Thankyou!! And for explaining this so clearly without like 3 different long winded intros and detours lol

Cant forget the part where you need a R2D2 minfig in the background somewhere.
what about finding good background music that fits the video and doesn't overwhelme the voiceover?
Btw, there's more to Content ID and not really how it works. I wouldn't give general advice on clip lengths, because that's not how it works.
Hi! Just subscribed. What is the most efficient way of acquiring clips of movies to go with the VoiceOver? Just screen recording or individual clip downloading?

Hey Troy! How can I watch your Evil Dead video?
bro i swear that batman plush in the background is the same one that was attached to a backpack i had as a kid
8:01 you’ve been doing this too long, your inner JJJ is coming out!
I once uploaded a video with my own music in it and it got copyright claimed and I appealed it, stating it was my song and even gave info about the release only I would have access to and it still got rejected 😭
Would using DVDs work too?
any advice on how to get clips from movies/shows on streaming services?

You didn’t do the hulk pre write
👏
I fear copyright
I’d make them but I can’t edit.
