People always focus on Matteo's right-hand technique. His left-hand technique is much more impressive in my opinion. How much pressure he puts when fretting a note, the control of dynamics, and his finger tone are next level.
I agree with you but I think people - including myself - have never seen a jazz, jazz-fusion guitarist play so fast and so beautifully picking the strings without a pick precisely. Even Joe Pass, who played a lot with his left-hand fingers ended up using a pick when having to plays real fast.
I share your appreciation for Allan Holdsworth and had the great pleasure of meeting him several times over the years. But I very much admire your playing and am now a big fan of yours. Way beyond us mere mortals.

I've been watching about a thousand videos of electric guitarists since 2010 and I think finally, someone is about to dethrone Guthrie Govan as the best guitarist of the Decade. 2010 -2020 which he ones ruled. For those interested, in an italian interview he once stated how started playing guitar (electric) at the age of 10-11, mainly inspired by rock metal artists, but didn't get much serious until 14 when he also took classical guitar lessons. At 16 he fell in love with jazz

It just goes to show what happens when someone starts playing guitar in something like a "fish bowl" where you have no PRECONCEIVED notions or limitations about HOW to play or WHAT to play. His right hand plucking style is something that was born of necessity since he was unaware that you even SHOULD use a pick. He's basically a musican born of sheer providence. As far has his "fusion focused" style goes: It's all a matter on what music your "raised on" as a player. If he'd been born 30 years ago, he would have been learning Van Halen. Vai, Satriani, Yngine, Gilbert, etc. etc. style lines, licks, songs, etc. etc.. when "fusion" as a style was still in it's infancy (relatively speaking - even though I do see he can play EJ runs well 25:52) Bottom line: Whatever a Player learns "note for note" as he/she grows into the instrument, those are the note choices, phrasing, sounds, etc. that will form the basis of their technique and "style" and so they will end up "sounding" like them until they begin branching out into their own "voice", which takes decades.

No doubt mastering this right hand technique mixture isn’t a matter of a few weeks (not even months), but I have decided to put away my picks for some time and play with my fingers, even though in my hands all I get from my guitar is noise and loads of harmonics all the time. That is, a total unclean sound. But I will keep going, since Mr. Mancuso has proven it is possible to make a guitar sound the same with or without a plectrum. Of course, I’m aware that means starting from scratch.
Shadows was active in the sixties not in the seventies. It was a British guitar instrumental group, I would not say country band , even Apache is actually american- like song.
hueseph I have tried most of good and great guitars including Yamahas , he is probably endorsed by Yamaha that’s all, I just think Suhr would suits more for his style of playing ! This guy deserves better than Yamaha! Peace

@@Molcrid Headless design is undeniably an improvement when it comes to string changes, ease of tuning, and staying in tune. You're also less likely to smack someone with the head of the guitar, can't accidentally snap it off, and it's more compact.
Man, been fighting with the pick for 4 years, trying all angles and approaches, and always wanted to switch over to finger style but did not find a way to play clean lines, always sounded like Mark Knopfler or Country (nothing bad but its limiting). This kid found a way aproaching the guitar a bit like a bass, but he has to dampen the strings with a rubber band or they will ring out.
Much of the time he does not use the damper, and he still has total control of the strings. I never hear the unwanted ringing of the open g string, or any string.
Phenomenal player. The tuning was a real issue, l wonder why. I suspect a design flaw with the guitar, perhaps it needs locking nuts or something, but he shouldn’t have to be hampered by such a fundamental issue.
Probably the change in climate from Italy to Russia. For all we know he got off the plane and right to the Clinic without so much as a truss rod adjustment. Being said these and all guitars benefit greatly from a properly cut nut.

Вот это я понимаю ЗВУКОИЗВЛЕЧЕНИЕ. Плотный,мягкий,круглый,обьемный звук на ВСЕХ нотах и позициях. Пассажи крайне внятны и читаемы, а главное, при высокой скорости не пропадает вылержанность нот и глубина тона, чего не скажешь про таких как Опарин и подобные,у которых гитара орет как резанная с его погружением где надо и не надо.....
никаких вопросов, как занимается, чем занимается, снимает ли или выучивает по нотам, импровизирует ли он теппингом или это выученные фишки. как занимается импровизацией, как мыслит. великолепный гитарист, но абсолютно никто не подготовился, ничего интересного не спросил и организаторы могли бы хоть чтото спросить. за это поставил бы минус, но не буду ..
