People always focus on Matteo's right-hand technique. His left-hand technique is much more impressive in my opinion. How much pressure he puts when fretting a note, the control of dynamics, and his finger tone are next level.

I agree with you but I think people - including myself - have never seen a jazz, jazz-fusion guitarist play so fast and so beautifully picking the strings without a pick precisely. Even Joe Pass, who played a lot with his left-hand fingers ended up using a pick when having to plays real fast.

I've been watching about a thousand videos of electric guitarists since 2010 and I think finally, someone is about to dethrone Guthrie Govan as the best guitarist of the Decade. 2010 -2020 which he ones ruled. The run/lick he does at 15:42 is Frank Gambale spot on! LOL! It just goes to show what happens when someone starts playing guitar in something like a "fish bowl" where you have no PRECONCEIVED notions or limitations about HOW to play or WHAT to play. His right hand plucking style is something that was born of necessity since he was unaware that you even SHOULD use a pick. He's basically a musican born of sheer providence. As far has his "fusion focused" style goes: It's all a matter on what music your "raised on" as a player. If he'd been born 30 years ago, he would have been learning Van Halen. Vai, Satriani, Yngine, Gilbert, etc. etc. style lines, licks, songs, etc. etc.. when "fusion" as a style was still in it's infancy (relatively speaking - even though I do see he can play EJ runs well 25:52) Bottom line: Whatever a Player learns "note for note" as he/she grows into the instrument, those are the note choices, phrasing, sounds, etc. that will form the basis of their technique and "style" and so they will end up "sounding" like them until they begin branching out into their own "voice", which takes decades.

No doubt mastering this right hand technique mixture isn’t a matter of a few weeks (not even months), but I have decided to put away my picks for some time and play with my fingers, even though in my hands all I get from my guitar is noise and loads of harmonics all the time. That is, a total unclean sound. But I will keep going, since Mr. Mancuso has proven it is possible to make a guitar sound the same with or without a plectrum. Of course, I’m aware that means starting from scratch.

Great technique and most talented out there but no taste in composition selection. Holdsworth is junk that only guitarists would like.
