Thank you Slice, from Ontario, Canada.
My father's grandmother is Borana peoples. Her name was Dinta Abdi, her mother's name was Halaka Liibaan. These peoples are cushitics, similarly Oromos, Somalis, Rendinle, Afar peoples, however the Oromos and Borana are cousins their languages are very close.
It is amazing to watch a united communities fulfilling their daily life activities. Commonly they regard their obstacles the worst! But free from depression and other mental illnesses many suffer from in other developed countries. East Africans, there are so many Cushitics available in Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia, whom linguistically and culturally close to each other.
I felt emotional for watching this documentary without traveling one step. Thanks again.
May Allah bless people of Borana.

@NAEC-ms7tw No my father grandfather and great great grandfather were carnival operators not colonialists . As for your rant about carbon emissions I am extremely aware of the environment living in Australia I will happily abuse people that buy toys from China when they're adults because that is killing the planet, when I moved into my property in remote South Australia there was not a single Blade of grass or anything growing back or front which I changed. I've planted fruit trees lawns put in veggie gardens built a green house so that I didn't have to buy food that come from the other side of Australia overseas and I've also put in solar panels so I have no carbon footprint other than my car which is just passed at the inspection so the emissions are low. But also Australia has taken in a lot of African people and the people that lived here we're worse off because of that we end up homeless because the government gave all these people cheap housing but not the people that were actually in need that were already living here . Now I am 52 in a week, and I remember seeing ads back in the 70s all the way through till now of World vision saying send more money to these people and all these bulshit ,they need to look after themselves and stop asking for handouts . Now I hope this is a good lesson in actually finding out who you're speaking to before you start shooting your mouth off.

Leave it to the Borana to stay calm under immense pressure. The egalitarian foundations of their societal paradigm along with their history of a social organization using the Gadaa System have enabled these noble people to maintain communal law and order over a fundamental (and now scarce) resource among both themselves and their neighbours.
I would be surprised to see any other horizontal society could act so swiftly in the face of great danger due to a lack of a vital resource such as water. Imagine the civil unrest that occurs with the scarcity of fuel or energy in the West, let alone water or food.

We have allowed a society whose principle focus is money, not people, and certainly not by doing what’s right for its people.
We are spending trillions to get Elon to Mars while people in areas like this haven’t food, nor water. These are not people trying to get the newest iPhone or the largest yacht, they only seek to survive today with little hope of any change tomorrow. This leaves no room whatsoever to debate on our focus. We are broken and do nothing to repair ourselves.
It will never change until we remove from these discussions “they” and replace it with “we”. These people are us. They are our brothers, sisters, moms and dads. We make them live this way.

I hope they can somehow stop overgrazing and realize that the bushes that are growing there could potentially help to build up the soil (humus and soil live like bacteria and fungi). This would allow the rain to penetrate the earth more easily as well as keeping the moisture in the soil longer before it evaporates.
Also let the grasses grow higher so that it can build a stronger root system and become more drought resistant. Keep grazing time in any one spot short so that the grass has leaves left and can regrow faster.
I know that all of that is easier said then done.

Life seems a lottery . Even when all your ideas are realised it would mean more people would prosper for a short while in an arid region, which eventual won't be able to support the increased population , which would cause tribal warfare about scarce resources.
Some places on this planet can support a finite amount of people and livestock.
The fact there are actually people living there under such circumstances seems already a miracle.
Many of us who flush away a mere pee with three litres of perfectly good drinking water should count our blessings and not take them for granted.

These people are very resilient and knowledgeable how to take care of the land, their livestock and each other. The problem is the selfishness and greed of politicians and so called educated who want a lavish house and luxurious life. The desertification is getting worse every year taking away the already small resources available to locals. The city people want charcoal to cook; therefore poor herders cut down trees to meet the demand while making some cash. Trees take years to mature in arid climate.
Government should have come up with sustainable solutions such as solar energy to pump the water up from those wells. Livestock management should have been taught so that people didn’t keep too many cattle. This will help with overgrazing.

This is the most amazing documentary I ever seen for a while! I’m heartbroken when I see my people struggling with basic needs!😭💔🖤
Our prime minister is living in a glass wall he can’t even hearing what is happening in Boran, Ethiopia! Wow ! Shame on you!
what a shame as a leader of a country and as a citizen we can do better to change our most vulnerable people of Boran!
Why he is investing money on his office and parks in Addis Abeba..!? What comes first..!? I don’t understand African so called “Leaders!” Get out off capital city and look for citizens who deserve basic needs! I’m so sorry to see what they are suffering through on day to day life.😭😭😭💔💔💔🖤🖤🖤
why this is so difficult to get basic needs like water..!? What is happening in this world..!?
Anyway I’m so emotional to witness this! I know it has been for so long but I just see it today and my heart is aching! Come on Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed you can do better!!😭🙌🏽💔🖤🙏🏽 water ..!? Even the innocent children and animals..!! Why why…!? Any way, God is great they got rain for now! What about after 2/3 years later..!? You went the circle to keep going on..!? Come now..!?

The documentary is from around 2008. Recently a severe drought hit the Borena people which leads to the death of livestock and humans while the Oromo politicians, the ethnic group the Borena belongs to, are busy of cleansing and displacing Amhara people who live in the Oromia region.

Could they possibly widen the holes slightly to get a straight line and install a screw shape device that they can turn on the water troth level and bring water up to the surface that way? They would be able to get more water to the surface with less danger to the men and by completing the watering faster they will be able to stop a good amount of frustration with the herders

I see people repeatedly mentioning pumps... beyond the issue related to having acces to petrol, parts, maintenance, having extensively worked in Borana to respond to the drought with an NGO, I often also personally considers the risk that could come with extensive exploitation of these very unstable wells. A pump could overexploit the wells and it would also translate in many more groups coming to the wells competing for the overexploited and overcrowded wells. A more stable solution might be that of building reservoir dams and diverting nearby rivers.

Over a million cattle have died because of drought in Oromiyaa alone. Lots of people also have lost their lives. Because of inflation people can’t afford to buy food and necessities. People are dying of starvation and yet the government is collecting wheat from farmers and exports to Kenya. what kind of government would let his own people starve to death and export??
wheat from Ukrain came to Ethiopia first because the need is severe.

This can be solved by stopping war in the country which is created by the Western to accmplish there selfishness interest & didn't care for poor mother & children .That is going on in all African countries which they colonized & did nothing did for them except exploiting there natural mineral almost for free.
