Part of Sahara desert in Libyan territory has plenty of oases but let’s not confuse these water resources to the man made river project of Muamar Qadaffi. The main source was an underground acquafer located in Fezzan dessert and from auxiliary deepwells at Tawargah about 600 kms south of Misurata. The man made river was constructed by Dong Ah company, a Korean firm and no american company involed. I worked there in 1993.

Roberto Pechenino : I'm positive the professionals who designed this great project studied and researched all angles before they planned and began building. Most Americans know nothing except what the Zionist controlled media releases concerning Libya. We can only wish our govt. Would finance education, health care, a home for all its citizens, residual money yearly paid to all Libyan citizens, 50% payment if Citizens buy a new car, 50,000 dollars paid to newlyweds, free water and electricity for its citizens, 99% literacy rate. The Americans hide these facts from its citizens and instead de-humanize whoever the Zionist lobby orders our govt. To hate.
Why all this hatred towards Qaddafi? Qaddafi did more for his people than any western leader has done for his. Let's live in peace and act like responsible people. Every country has a right for their religion and beliefs.
Qaddafi was the only thing holding that place together. It's populated with all kinds of crazy sand people, and only a strong-man like Qaddafi could hold it all together. Now it's not even really a country so much as just a region that we call Libya.
Gaddafi warned that he was the only thing holding back a massive tide of migrants from flooding to europe. Now millions of military age men are flooding in and pretending to be "refugees" (but the media pretends it all women and children, of which there are hardly any). Well, the guy warned you. Good job killing him though.
A country is made up of people and people have choices. That means in any country not any of them have a universal religious belief..... Check out your your knowledge ...............................
This is an extremely interesting documentary! I'm glad I happened upon it as I've always found the Sahara Desert, particularly that belonging to Libya utterly fascinating. I hope this aquafer program achieves its goals but at the same time I worry the program will ultimately drain the subterranean water reservoir dry and with it the sporadic sprinklings of naturally occurring oasis found throughout the region. Very neat documentary! Thanks for posting.
Very interesting doc....I'm curious to find out what has happened with this huge project since the revolution in Libya. .. I'd love to see the topic revisited. ..
they couldnt have gaddafi causing a green revolution so they destroyed him now we have the same leaders peddling climate change this project if completed wouldve been worth billions in carbon credits you see revolution like this cant be allowed

Libya had 54 billion USD to put in a water pipe to tap the Saharan aquifers. I wonder if they thought about sending their waste water and sewage into the desert. The organic matter would add nutrients to the 'soil' and the water would replenish the aquifers. I also wonder if distilling fresh water from Mediterranean sea water would have been more economical and environmentally sustainable. We should probably start diverting fresh water to prevent it from entering the oceans. If the glaciers, glacial lakes and aquifers dry up, we'll have to distill sea water anyway, so why put the wild animals at risk by draining water from natural, delicate habitats? I wonder just how many sink holes it will take for politicians to acknowledge that fresh water is being used and lost to the oceans faster than it is being replenished naturally. Also, I noticed a few things about the rock carvings and painting that are thought to have been made 4,000 or more years ago, before the Sahara became a desert... @ 15:46 looks like a T Rex. @ 16:59, a carving of a horned, hairy upright animal with a tail @ 17:03, turban tying and what looks like a modern coffee mug
I agree, a distilling the ocean water and pumping it to the inner areas would have made more sense. This project looks totally upside down! I wonder what happened since Muammar Gaddaffi has already left the planet and a new "government" however functional it is currently governing Libya!
Samuel Walworth It seems as though governments are hell-bent on getting 'freebies' from natural resources. Despite all the political talk about conserving and protecting the environment, they just keep exploiting without thinking about the consequences of exhausting natural resources and upsetting the balance of nature. We're getting close to turning Earth into another Mars or Venus...We're already funneling money into space exploration, in search of a new home planet and water. It's sick, REALLY sick.
Destilling water from seawater would have 10-fold the costs. A better way of doing it is to combine concentrated solar power, which produces excess heat, to destill water, and combine that with techniques to safe on water usage for agriculture (drip irigation techniques and such. Typically in dry areas one should produce vegetables and such in a closed system, recycling the nutritients and water and using led lights optimized for plant growth.
Its the Great Artificial Revere! Gaddafi greatest crazy Idea Ever! 50 billion dollars to pipe water from the south of Libya to the North!! This man kills Libyans 10000000 times! He wasted money and end it up with killing them using guns!
Gadafi was a real patriot. I guess that he felt like at home in Belgrade. I am an old man but i loved his visit. At that time he sort of created a show through the city with his camels, Which he donated to Belgrade. Thank You friend gadafi, Thanks to patriots of Libia. I Hope that You guys Will wake up and soon continue to build and improve your great country. Love from serbia
Wonderful documentary. Beautifully produced, directed and narrated with perfect sound, well balanced music and incredble personnel and camera crew. Kudos to the locals to helped and spoke flawless English. Thank you for educating me about the Sahara and Libya. Why did they kill Gadafi?.
I love the desert and I hope in the near future that I will go on a trip to the south of Libya because of the views that hold the newborns and large swabs
If that giant water pipe doesn't work well for shipping water, you can also make it into a reflective tunnel to bring light from solar reflectors and then focus it to make energy and also desalinate water :)
Surely if you're going to irrigate crops using water in these arid places you do so once the sun goes down, so that you reduce the effects of evaporation?
someblokecalleddave1: extremely practical comment On hot summer days my grandmothers used to say don’t water the garden until after the sun has set and the air is cooler otherwise you burn the plant. The water would not have evaporated quickly and the plants had more to drink. Sometimes common people wisdom goes unheeded.
My father met Gadhaffi personally when their employer didnt pay them of their wages and treated them badly Ghadaffi orders the arrest of their employer and put him into jail and Ghadaffi pays them double to what they owed my Father even cries when he saw Ghadaffi's dead body on the news he was a good man evil to some but certainly did well for his country which is now far from its former glory..
Super cool video..Gelandewagen and Defender 90 porn for us folks in the US can't easily buy or own these remarkable vehicles. Defenders are very rare and expensive here and not known for their reliability. D90's overheat pretty easily (mine did anyway - 1995 station wagon). I can't even imagine having to depend on a Land Rover for a journey like this. Been reading of these shipwreck survivors in the 1800's who fetch up on the west coast of Africa and find themselves in even worse shape than when they were actively wrecking near the shallows of the Canarys or Cape Bojador. Only to be captured and raided and enslaved by Moroccan raiders! Fuck! Just so amazing. Our planet constantly blows my mind.
when King Idris was in power, I was in Tripoli in the late 1950's. It's is likely water is less around because nature does shift. Desalination plants have been constructed in Australia, perhaps the Libyans may consider this. Libya has a great coastline.
Saqib Nawaz :: those people have lived in the desert for generations, they know best how to maintain balance in that harsh environment. They would have got the knowledge from their father, grandfather, grreat grandfather from thousands of years.
Is there any update on this documentary? Like was it successfully completed and achieved its objectives? Then, the irony, why carry water from the bowels of the earth from down south to the Mediterranean coastal towns at such expense of treasury and labour when they could have invested in huge desalination project to convert sea water to usable agricultural water for irrigation and drinkable portable water? I don't know, just asking. Can somebody educate me on these, what are the options and constraints? Surrounded by water at the coast and still very thirsty, that is how I see it.
Disalination cost huge amount of money and as it is mentioned that 95% of Libya is desert, more than water stoping desertification is important for them.
PPL of Libya, now you understand what Gaddafi did for you. At his time Libya was a happy and strong country. Only mistake Gaddafi did- trusting America
@@nelsonbarrios1718 Trust in Allah Everything will be fine Just we need unity faith and work for humanity for the sake of Allah Deserts can become a great beautiful profitable land
I am not happy with the actions of my government, but do not know how to change a group of idiots that put them into office. There are a lot of people like me that do not like what Hillary Clinton bragged about doing. I think Qaddafi was a great man who courageously tried to fight the Banking Cartels by creating the Gold Dinar and forcing the rest of the world to use this currency when buying oil or any other commodity. This was a mistake because the "New World Order" is a monetary monopoly or at least wants to be. Unfortunately, the monopoly is in power and there are very few nations not under their control. The first thing done, once Libya was disrupted, was a bank-takeover of Libya's central bank. Everything else will be secondary. I do not think there is much that can be done with the majority of people in the world that are willing to be enslaved...We will see if absolute power corrupts absolutely, probably within our life-times.
omg this is amazing and wonderful to see grass in the sahara desert ..i was watching ..MONUMENT VALLEY >>UTAH and i wondered about if only they could do something like that there ..so much land not being used ..just a thougth

Good documentary. Irrigation, cropping, water security and reclaiming the desert. I wonder why libya hasn't planted varietys of trees? Tree's typically pull up water from underground raising water tables plus providing a variety of other benefits.
It seems to me that anything man creates has two sides..good and bad..what they are doing is thinking locally, but what about the other countries and other people.Even what they are doing is not sustainable... this water once is pump out it is gone..nothing to replenish it....two bad... Grate video. It inspire people to do things the right way...There are better solutions to dis problems...Africa has more then enough sun light to do this...Than it may be sustainable....
chaki perdomo it's under our soil means we are free to do what we want with it Don't use these excuses to lie to your self thinking you are right It's our water and it's more expensive than gas
chaki perdomo If there were better solutions don't you think those consulting co's Qaddafi hires would have presented them to Qaddafi? He's not a idiot. The issue is that solar energy is still in infancy & requires much research & little government investment is going there. Makes you think doesn't it. Japan has the best mix of standard & alternate energy & they were only able to replace 30% of their oil+nuclear based energy.

Absolutely amazing photography! Thank you!
This documentary and the speech is mesmerizing as if he lived thousands years back and history he created a story with in their levels.

Very interesting doc....I'm curious to find out what has happened with this huge project since the revolution in Libya. .. I'd love to see the topic revisited. ..
Tim if you look into it you will probably find that the water is called "Primary Water" Which the earth produces.
+Tim Ryan the US and UK control this water now and the country was bombed back to the stone ages. just what the west intended.
NWO taking over the world.
why they bombarded?
they couldnt have gaddafi causing a green revolution so they destroyed him now we have the same leaders peddling climate change this project if completed wouldve been worth billions in carbon credits you see revolution like this cant be allowed
Awesome Documentary, this video inspire us to go to this part of world. Amazing !

I will never get to see the Sahara in my life but I can't think of a most peaceful place when I think of the place where it Allah garden I know why one day my bucket list but my bucket too poor to see it but I wish I was born there and live in a tent with the peaceful feeling I know life hard it is everywhere but to find sure peace is beautiful
RUTH THOMPSON ... I am a Libyan .... as long as you are interested in the Sahara, I would suggest that you may read some works of the libyan great novelist Ibrahim Al-Koni.... try to read the novel "The bleeding of the stone" .... good luck
Omar Alowaylim thank you I will read it I love anything that does with the Sahara maybe I'm from there in my past life I don't know but I've never love a place like I love this place or maybe it's the simple life of the nomad I crave but thank you so much

Beautiful comment.Hope you had oppurtunity to visit sahara desert and if not may Allah guide you and you wil see one day even more amazing things which will last for eternity a place where being bored or being poor will never exist
@ 16:59, a carving of a horned, hairy upright animal with a tail
@ 17:03, turban tying and what looks like a modern coffee mug
Typically in dry areas one should produce vegetables and such in a closed system, recycling the nutritients and water and using led lights optimized for plant growth.
robheusd You've presented a few excellent options. Thanks :-)

Great project of great mane. Moamar Qadafi shaheed.
Gaddafi is a great man, we the people of Libya love
he is not shaheed he a traitor
I love the desert and I hope in the near future that I will go on a trip to the south of Libya because of the views that hold the newborns and large swabs
If that giant water pipe doesn't work well for shipping water, you can also make it into a reflective tunnel to bring light from solar reflectors and then focus it to make energy and also desalinate water :)
very good documentry
My husband was stationed in Libya when King Idrus was on his throne. He didn't think of the development of water resources, Qaddafi did.
not true .the blue prints of this mega project were actually laid during king idres's era
Surely if you're going to irrigate crops using water in these arid places you do so once the sun goes down, so that you reduce the effects of evaporation?
someblokecalleddave1: extremely practical comment
On hot summer days my grandmothers used to say don’t water the garden until after the sun has set and the air is cooler otherwise you burn the plant. The water would not have evaporated quickly and the plants had more to drink. Sometimes common people wisdom goes unheeded.
What a wonderful documentary
Thanks a lot .I salute you for tripoli libya

Ghadaffi sleep in a tent, corrupted US leader live in castle.

USS Melanie Jagger lol ,me too , I looked for about vehicle Defender 90 here USA but it is so expensive I don’t know what is expensive ,
Beautiful desert 🐪 thank you 🙏🏻 for the info
when King Idris was in power, I was in Tripoli in the late 1950's. It's is likely water is less around because nature does shift. Desalination plants have been constructed in Australia, perhaps the Libyans may consider this. Libya has a great coastline.
Zuara has a desalination plant. I installed and tested the two 1200mm dia intake pipelines in the 90's.
Sorry, was 2003. God knows what state it's in now. The only one in Libya as far as I know.
They are doing very well.but they are waisting too much water they should plant trees is well because in the shadow moisture will stay longer.
Trees would accelerate the evaporation.
Saqib Nawaz :: those people have lived in the desert for generations, they know best how to maintain balance in that harsh environment. They would have got the knowledge from their father, grandfather, grreat grandfather from thousands of years.
Ive read a lot of books about the Sahara. I'd love to go there one day.
Welcome any time
Is there any update on this documentary?
No,it was never completed, thanks to war,and NATO bombs destroyed almost all that was built so far.And Gadaffi was killed.
Simply amazing documentary. Love from Bangladesh.
Awesome documentary thank you
PPL of Libya, now you understand what Gaddafi did for you. At his time Libya was a happy and strong country. Only mistake Gaddafi did- trusting America
mohamad hossain or trusting his own people... since you know...they killed him

Deserts can become a great beautiful profitable land

The man-made river is based on two large underground water fields. The Kufra field locating in the south eastern area is sustainable. On other words, there is underground river running there.

Don't use these excuses to lie to your self thinking you are right
It's our water and it's more expensive than gas
hakim farhat well said!

chaki perdomo If there were better solutions don't you think those consulting co's Qaddafi hires would have presented them to Qaddafi? He's not a idiot.
The issue is that solar energy is still in infancy & requires much research & little government investment is going there. Makes you think doesn't it. Japan has the best mix of standard & alternate energy & they were only able to replace 30% of their oil+nuclear based energy.
Why this country not left alone??? , great jobs were done.
not left alone because Gaddafi make life good for Libya, gold dinar, uniting Africa Not a puppet for western interest...
Because Ghedaffi was uniting Africa and Africa would have been great again. Thank God his death has opened the eyes of many western Africans.
