I always imagined the Death legend came from use of Thestral materials in the construction of the Hallows. Something like: Thestral hoof for the Resurrection Stone, Thestral hair or wing leather in the invisibility cloak, and Thestral heartstring or something for the core of the Elder Wand. Especially given the Thestrals' notorious invisibility until one has Seen Death. So their properties for an invisibility cloak seem an ideal ingredient.

      @toddfraser3353 3 місяці тому +2

Every time a horcrux is created, the soul is split in half. So if the journal was the first one it would have 1/2 of his total soul l, while Harry being the 7th would be less than 1 16:03 % of his total soul, as well Voldemort would only have about 1% of his soul remaining.
Which could explain why Harry isn't as corrupted as the other Horcrux.
The Journal was actively evil and deceitful,

You know how Ron's first wand was passed down to him from his brother Charlie. "The wand was already worn out when Ron brought it to Hogwarts and was almost broken in two by the Whomping Willow." I always wondered if it was one of Molly's brothers' wand since they passed away during the first war. Like how Neville is using his father's wand. They are always portrayed as struggling financially, so it would make sense for them to reuse her brothers' wand/wands to save money. Then, when Charlie graduates and gets a job and his own money he wants to buy himself a new wand just for him that better fits him and gives the old wand back to his parents. Who then gives the wand to Ron. The dates of their death seem to line up to right before the kids would start school.
Molly Weasley's brothers, Fabian and Gideon Prewett, were murdered by Death Eaters in 1981 during the First Wizarding War:
William: Born on November 29, 1970
    Charlie: Born in 1972
    Percy: Born in 1976
Fred and George: Born in 1978 on April Fool's Day
    Ron: Born in 1980
    Ginny: Born in 1981
I'm curious about your thoughts on this theory.

Love this theory, but with one caveat: the three brothers were simply powerful wizards, as per Dumbledore's speculation. However, the secret "ingredient" could be a Dementor. We already know that two of the three objects require magical beast components (the wand core and the invisibility cloak from a Demiguise). So maybe the brothers learned a way to harvest Dementors, or perhaps they "came across a dead one along the way."

I love the idea that death is like the king of dementors and even if the one by the lake was not death himself, it could have been influenced by his king. It would also explain why dementors follow Voldemort, who has caused more death than most.

I have a different theory: Maybe Dementors are imperfect replications of death. I read a description once (I think it was in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book), where it was mentioned that nobody really knows where they came from, they just appeared on an island previously occupied by a particularly cruel and perverse dark wizard. Maybe the dark wizard was trying to replicate/create "Death", the physical manifistation from the Beetle the Bard book, and something went wrong, creating the dementors.

The quote about being cursed if you kill a unicorn is quite emblematic of Voldemort's connection to Harry. Voldemort tries to kill Harry as an innocent, pure baby in an attempt to prevent Harry being a risk to him later. The act of trying to kill harry as a baby is what began Voldemort's fall. Voldemort further solidifies his doom taking on Harry's blood in GoF because without knowing it, Voldemort was living a "half-life" because he had checkmated himself by also taking on Lily's sacrifice.

I finally just realized why Peter never showed up on the marauders map.
Sirius said something to the effect of "the dementors thought I was less human my emotions less complex when transformed".
What if Peter had been so invested in hiding and being Scabbers, that until Sirius broke out of Azkaban the map saw him truly as Scabbers the rat.
Also I know I'm assuming the map and the dementors would identify a wizard in a similar way. Like they both recognize the soul of someone who does magic but for all intents and purposes Peter has the soul of a rat.

My opinion on how realistic a bogart mimic is depends on what the person specifically fears. Eg. Ron doesn't like their spindly legs, so the focus would be on their long legs. Ron doesn't fear spiders cos some are venomous, so the mimic isn't venomous. Conversely, Harry is afraid of a dementor in it's entirety, including their ability to make him relieve his worst memory and faint, that's why his mimic was so realistic.

Here's a question I've been interested in for quite a while: How do wizards control Dementors? Fudge speaks about packing the Dementors off to Azkaban and later says all Dementors are under Ministry control (and at the time, he's right: it was a Ministry official who set the Dementors on Harry and Dudley); later, the Death Eaters choose when to send the Dementors to look for the golden trio in Hogsmead, meaning that they could have chosen to keep them at bay. And these aren't the only examples. Conclusion: there are ways to place Dementors under control, at least partially (the Ministry does lose control over them when they switch sides to Voldemort). How is that done? Somehow I don't see the Death Eaters produce a massive army of permanent Patronuses (is it even possible to have a Patronus last that long?) to keep hordes of Dementors at bay for hours or even days on end

Like some event separated him so his personality is gone, but if it were to be undone, it would come back? Something like some brothers stole the three powerful artifacts that let him be himself.

I think that a good theory that drives from this one is that the three brothers were actually amazing wizards that researched death and made the hallows from things connected to death, such as the elder wand having thestral hair, the invisibility cloak possibly being made from a dementor cloak who is already invisible to muggles and the resurrection stone could be made like a bezoar but in a unicorns stomach. Thestrals are connected to death because wizards can only see them after having seen someone die, dementors like they say in this theory are very related to death in both appearance and powers and making a cloak out of one could make one escape them and "evade" or escape them and unicorns can keep you alive if one drinks their blood, so a bezoar, an ingredient that is seen as an antidote in general, being made inside a unicorn possibly could make someone "ressurect"

He probably still posses invisibility. Since the cloak was ripped out from a part of his clothing. He did not give away the whole cloak, just a small part. Death may be a very ancient dementor from a time when ancient magic still existed for regular use. If death could come from a dementor there may also exist other dementor that are stronger. Since I doubt someone that can talk and make something like the hallows would be so weak. If he made them and did not just come into possession of them.

While there may be some similarities in their "physical description", dementors are supposed to be manifestations of depression. From what I've read their history is always around dark wizards, I'm not sure they are natural entities but instead created. I think if anything they may have a connection to the creation of a horcrux as they both about the soul leaving the body outside of death. And perhaps that's why they are drawn to Harry. Or just Voldermort's sliver of evil soul.

Maybe the three brothers just met a dementor on the road, saw/experienced what they feard the most (losing power/being powerless, never finding love again/being alone, dying to early not having lived a full life...) and thus started creating the hallows?

  • @plotholedetective4166

I actually agree with this. The fear of death is the most primal fear and the Hallows all seek a way to conquer that fear. The wand tries to fight death head on, the stone tries to reverse it and the cloak hides from it.

  • @Ssliasil

Death is a Dementor that is also a Horcrux.
It is that Horcrux Soul Fragment that gives Death its personality.
Harry and Nagini have tiny Voldemort soul fragments in them that make up their Horcrux and they still have their personalities altered by them despite such tiny soul fragments. (Their Horcrux Souls are tiny because Voldy had already split his soul in half several other times prior to them)
Dementors can not die, they are eternal - there is no better vessel for a Horcrux.

sounds like a sound theory, though I see it more as Death being the OG dementor and as the human and other population grew, Death split itself, forever consuming and growing but not being its complete OP self. hence why the robes on the dementor's robes are so tattled, a large one had a portion cut out to make a human size one when the invisibility cloak was gifted, and the rest just ripped as too many too quickly needed a robe. the one that came for harry was just one that had levelled more and probably recognised that Tom Riddle was meant to be dead (kudos if you read that in Izma's voice: "A Llama!?! He's meant to be DEAD!" lol) and technically so is Harry. Since the precise moment that Tom's killing curse aimed at Harry rebounded.

I mean, even though the rank file dementors are mostly described as almost beast-like in that they lack sense of self or higher mental capacity, I think there were multiple references to them that made them sound sentient (I think that the phrase was something like "they will join the dark lord as soon as he asks them"?) but from what I can recall right now, the ministry always treated them almost like hunting dogs, not like sentient creatures. So the thought of there being degrees of intelligence and t he progenitor or most powerful of the race being Death doesn't sound far-fetched

  • @ytty3666
    @ytty3666 Місяць тому

    I feel like I'm a little late but I've got 1 things:
I love this theory partly because it plays into the roots of magic and magical beats, close to the ancient magic we get to see as love in HP. The only but I have for this theory(and I might be wrong, I haven't been up to date with the theories) is that the wizard Raczidian made the dementors while he was doing dark arts experiments.
As I said I feel like you are getting at the ancient magic such as the game Hogwarts legacy, love and Hogwarts itself, I love this idea and made me think back about ancient magic. We see it as love in Harry Potter and we see it as some kind of neutral magic in Hogwarts legacy, while I was thinking about it(did not find any concrete stuff) if pure love for someone with some extra stuff(scarifies?) can be achieve ancient magic called love why doesn't there something off the opposite exist, like anger or death? And why doesn't this involve Voldemort?
In case I'm wrong about the origin of Dementors then I think there could be a way to fit ancient magic of the anger/death side to the original Dementor.

I know this isn't connected to DH at all, and didn't listen to/watch the episode of TTGD containing this, but: in "Prisoner," chapter 5, Lupin's asleep for 8.5 hours at least (at least until 7:30, I think the story says- i.e. until the dementor attack) but it's never explained why he's so tired. But here's something you might find interesting if you didn't mention it on TTGD: if you look up the phase of the moon on 8/31/93, it was a literal full moon- even out of universe! That makes him being asleep make a lot of sense!
