I'm 58 & love this even more every time I hear it. I've heard it at LEAST 100's of times since it came out, probably over 1,000! R.I.P., Suzanne "Minnie" Thomas. 🎸 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
I have a whole new appreciation for this song after seeing these two fly ladies - espescially the bass player - dance and play their instruments without missing a beat.
1978: I was twelve years old & attended summer camp when this wonderful song was riding the music charts! What a great summer it was - I felt carefree & didn't have one single care or worry in the world! Man, do I miss those days! Gotta give props when these ladies play their own instruments & sing! A Taste of Honey were before either The Go-Gos or The Bangles in this regard. Bravo, Ladies (& Gentleman)!
Back in 1979 I traveled with them to play in different states. Then in August of the same year, after I got back from competing in the PanAm Games, Perry Kibble (on keyboard) flew me out to LA to hang out with them. Went to various recording studios, including Stevie Wonder's. Great memories. RIP Perry!
LOL, this was one of the first songs I learned how to (misplay), as a freshmen in HS. They are totally awesome! I wondered what happened to them until I saw the 20 year reunion. What a shame they stopped playing for all those years. God, I wish soul music would make a comeback. I miss the big horns, big voices SINGING, meaningful words and almost 100% positive music.
Can't get enough of these ladies and this song! Well done live no lip-syncing, prerecorded music, electronics and computers. The music nowadays can't match this.
I'm a bass player as well, and you are absolutely right. It's no easy task to play that kind of bass part, sing that well and maintain such good stage presence throughout. She had it all going on for sure.
For me it was "The Midnight Special", late Friday nights....... Going out Saturdays, meant i wasn't getting home until Sunday afternoons. lol The days of one night stands after taking a girl out to breakfast after all that dancing and drinking. Ahhhhh the good old days of being young and full of energy.
when i was growing into a decent guitar player...i said to myself, i said self, that dude on guitar is smooth, i wanted to be like him! him? it's so refreshing to see that it is a woman. and a elegant, beautiful, mesmerizing woman. thanx 4 this video r i would have never known. peace.
I would love to see talent like this today. No autotune and no prerecorded music. All the way live! and still sound good! Most of these youngsters nowadays aint got a clue.
I wish Capital Records hadn't hidden the talents of ToH's genius. Ah Perry baby - so sweet. Funkiest bass...amazing guitar licks...every note written by Perry Kibble. Will never be another like him... And look at Don playin' the drums! Love this video thnx for posting. RIP Perry...
I was impressed, back in the day and hearing this on the radio, with their singing and with what I thought was the band's bass and lead guitars. Saw them on a PBS special 20 years later and it blew me away that they had done and were doing their own playing, and singing. Wow!!! And they looked FINE also. Unbelievable.
That PBS special was amazing and these ladies were a big highlight among many. I recorded it and have watched it several times. These great talents make medicine for the soul!
I absolutely love this live performance, to see music played on actual instruments is beautiful. Gotta give them respect for their talent, stage presence and playing their own instruments.
"A Taste of Honey" is a fantastic and classic group of performers whose music will last through the ages with this song, and they are Fantastic singers and instrumentalists as well! Go girls!
THESE SISTERS WERE WAY AHEAD OF THEIR TIME. ITS WAS A RARE TO SEE WOMEN PLAYING INSTRUMENTS ON STAGE BACK THEN. SLY STONE STARTED THE TREND IN THE LATE 60'S, WITH THE FAMILY STONE, WITH SISTER ROSE ON KEYBOARDS AND CYNTHIA ROBINSON ON TRUMPET.
Fue la época más hermosa de mi juventud incomparable, grupos musicales extraordinarios, sin lugar a dudas los que nacimos en los sesenta disfrutamos la música disco en todo su esplendor.
Wow, I’d always loved this song as a teenager but having never seen them, also had no idea the singers were such accomplished guitar players too. Fantastic trip down memory lane as I strut my stuff round the study, thank you!
Thank you for posting. I love this song. It brings back so many memories. I remember this song in the summer of 78 playing several times a day on the radio. And what beautiful women they are !!!!!! WOW !! Beautiful and talented.
Watching Hazel Payne thrash on that guitar solo at 1:30...................OMG!!!!!!! All you microwaved, pre-packaged "artists" of today need to take notes!!!
Dang it! The only video on youtube showing Hazel Payne playing guitar. Somebody please upload sumthin with this incredible guitarist...with some daggone sound!
It is amazing how in love the cameramen were with Janice and pretty much never focused in on Hazel. This vid being one exception, the PBS fundraising vid being the other.
I posted this somewhere else, but, I saw them in 1978 when I was 15. They opened for the Isley Bros. I drooled the whole time they were on stage. After the Isley Bros. were out there for about 15 minutes, I was wishing ATOH would come back.
Hi Everyone!! This is my first time i see these talented girls! When i was 17-19 i remember i loved this song, we use to sing and dance to the music and let our body goo! Sure did!! Love this vid!

A #1 hit for A Taste of Honey on the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was the 417th #1 R&B song of the Rock Era. It also hit #1 on the Top 40 charts and Hot Dance Club Play charts. It went to #3 in the United Kingdom.
She is the reason I am playing Bass today.
Janice-Marie was beautiful then, she's beautiful now. She gives all bass players a reason to be proud of the instrument. Love you Janice!
I want to play in her Band.
How I WISH to go back and relive the 80's.... Late 70's and all thru the 80's were the BEST time for MUSIC and Socializing.... 🕺💃

My step-dad was a major rep for Capitol Records....
Among the Beatles and more, this was my favorite gold record we had on our wall ❤️ 📀 💃 ~
The live "stops" and harmonies were flawless, this is how it's done!
I have a whole new appreciation for this song after seeing these two fly ladies - espescially the bass player - dance and play their instruments without missing a beat.
And it looks like the Gal playing guitar got some Tips & Influence from Ernie Isley too!
yeah totally tight with groove to boot!
@@ftwins2000and an inspiration to Prince. You can hear the influence in his music.
I loved this song when it came out, and it still makes me smile. The 70's had a lot of good stuff, I'm 61+ and love good music
