Im of an age that means I've been lucky enough to have ridden in a 3.0 litre Capri in Silver a 2.8i in white and 2.0s in black all great cars this however is horrendous and an insult to the name.
The name Capri means nothing to anyone under the age of 40 at this stage I think. It's gone since '87 so doesn't matter. Not sure why they bothered all the same, just another suv to me.
That is horse crap I'm 32 and I've owned 2 capris, my friends who's same age and younger have had capris all thanks to our dad's ect this is an absolute joke of a car. Alot of people I know think this is an awful idea from ford
As an 18 year old I absolutely love the old Capri. My dad was saying how how his friend owned the 3.0 litre version, and it was a beast. Trust me, my generation hate these crap modern cars trying to be iconic. I’m not totally against EVs but car companies need to at least try and make them look pleasing to the eye. They’ve just stopped trying.
I have to say I'm very disappointed that they ignored the Capri heritage No oil spill under the car No rust spots on the wheel arches I bet it even starts first time in winter 😮
Reminds me of the BMW X6 which I always thought was pig ugly. This doesn't do much better. They should have just modernised the old capri shape. I think that would have been a winner. Cars are getting quite boring now going with these SUV templates. Anyway great video as always Nobby.
Well plain and simple it’s not a capri , it’s just got the same name . Would of been better if they saved the name for something in the future that has some degree of resemblance to the icon
To be fair the previous Capris were also built in Europe (among other places). I think ti looks great and if it drives well, I am definitely putting this on my shortlist.
All honesty I’m 22 and was looking forward to a revamp of the capri after looking for a project car thinking ah I can skip all the work of a project with the new “capri” but this is absolutely awful, I wouldn’t even let my dog sit in this, it’s just not a capri. It’s another generic electric suv
If they used a new name, I wouldn’t be so disappointed. It’s been a few years, I still don’t like a crossover being called a Mustang. And I don’t like a Capri becoming this. Has the world run out of good new names?
I’m not against EVs (although I prefer combustion engines), and some car companies have nailed the EV market (like some Teslas and the Porsche taycan/ Audi e-Tron rs) but this sort of crap is a disgrace to iconic cars. These generic electric SUVs need to be stopped.

OK, since you asked. The back looks fine, good even. The side profile is decent because it looks like a Polestar. The front is just appalling. Like the blandest, most uninspired front end you could possibly imagine. Then it has an identikit interior to the Explorer, which already borrowed the worst elements of the VW ID cars and they want to charge a fortune for it. Hard to avoid the conclusion that Ford have given up at this point. Oh and I don't care about the name, but that's possibly because I'm not old enough to have experienced the original.
just playing on a name, as the mustang mach e thing. I`m waiting to see the new renault 5 on the road, thats the way to do it if you are going to milk a name
Called a Capri but it definitely isn’t a follow on to a fab 70s coupe. But as a car it’s a pretty nice shape. As comments say, part of it Polestar-y shape wise. Like the interior a lot, seat shapes quite sporty. Boot excellent, good size batteries. Nice if something like Lane Assist was standard. Agree with you regarding potentially naming it Focus electric, instead of its name disappearing, the ‘Capri’ is a poor choice for us olds..thanks Nobby, excellent review.
I would agree with the Polestar looks. Where did the registration come from? It us an old Co Louth plate and I dont it is street legal in the UK. I dont see the connection with Ford or Capri names. EV manufacturers should get better places to store cables than under all the luggage which may be on board.
The plate is a show one - it uses numbers and letters which can be reversed so that when a picture is flipped, the plate reads properly whether it's lhd (HIY I88) or rhd (88I YIH). It's a pretty common tactic in car adverts.
As uninspiring as a Mustang Mach E. I think it’s a marketing stunt. They could have called it anything but that would not get anyone talking about it. It’s just another giant battery on wheels. So many to choose from.
Well I’ve got a few suggestions what it should be called!. The printable ones are Dora (seeing it’s actually an Explorer Coupe) but I’m going to have to go with the Ford Crapi 😅
It's basically a VW ID5 or Skoda Enyaq in a different guise. I wonder if the explorer and this will even sell well, name aside. If not I really wonder about the future of Ford in Europe. In cars anyway, the transit looks to be selling okay
It’s the other way around. The new Transporter out in Sep is the re-badged Transit. VW also use the Ford Ranger as the base for the Amarok. Ford get to use the ID4/ ID5 platform for the Explorer/ Capri. Not sure who got the best deal
Oddly enough I thought the curved glass side window on the 3 original Capris didn't relate to the design of the car pleasingly at all, so , here it is on a rather ubiquitous SUV and it _still_ doesn't!.
I can see how it’s been “Puma-ised”…made bigger and more practical than the original but….they should have gone fully in house with the Capri name rather than bolting it onto another VW platform. Range sounds impressive but not sure it would be achievable given the underpinnings from Wolfsburg 🤔
The Ford design team need to spend some time at Renault....who know how to do real justice to their heritage. .The design of the new 5 is so on point...such a clever design. This on the other hand is so so disappointing. As was said on another channel..... the sales numbers will tell a tale !!

Like th car but have to say Ford should have kept the Capri name for a sports car. Using that name on this body shape, added that's it's electric, isn't helping promote EVs and makes it an easy target for the EV haters.
It’s not a bad looking car in truth, if they did a petrol version. However it most definitely is NOT a Capri or a suitable successor to the iconic real Capri. They’ve done the same with the Mustang Mach E, it’s only badged Mustang to justify the higher cost.
Couple this against the Explorer which was/is a VW, this is a sad and somewhat desperate move by Ford (IMO) hoping marketing & nostalgia will equate to sales, rather than real innovation and engineering. This is NOT a Capri!

The Capri was iconic, as was the Mustang. Ford has bastardized both. No wonder they are not going to make it. I don’t think they know their rear end from a whole in the ground anymore. Absolute tosh.
