      I winded up going that direction by force. I wanted a really big DC collection at first. Such a shame because at the end of the day why do we have to choose? We should be able to do them both with no issue.

    The sculpts on DC Multiverse on the whole blow Marvel Legends out of the water. After Hasbro got license after Toy Biz they were more worried about churning out product that actually making sure product was good.

      DC excels in sculpts! I will give you that. Too bad these are figures and not statues. DC Multiverse is more of an Action Statue line than an Action figure line. That can be the halfway point for us right there. Also... This was DC Multiverse vs past DC for me.

    I tried really hard to like Mcfarlane but I ultimately wound up just writing them off recently.
    The scaling is a problem. Partly because they're 7 inches, and I like to mix lines and who tf else is making 7 inch figures? But more because the scaling isn't even consistent with itself. You can buy two different figures of the same character and they'll be different sizes. Though tbf I think they've gotten better with this lately.
    There's the ridiculous proportions. I think some characters look fine with long ass legs, but most of them just look freakish. I feel like they just stretch the legs out to artificially hit the 7 inch goal instead of actually designing 7 inch scale figures.
    Ben Affleck's face, or lack thereof.
    I think the articulation is generally... fine for $22. Could be better but it's fine. I appreciate the toe joint. The weird obsession with not having thigh swivel is an unnecessary hinderance, and the butterfly joints tend to be useless and need improvements.
    I hate visible pins. They make the figure look cheap.
    Weird accessory restrictions resulting in gun characters with no guns.
    The excessive amount of limited edition figures. There's no valid reason for WONDER WOMAN in her normal ass costume to be a limited figure. The whole "collector's edition" line just feels like a cop out to jack up the price and make fewer figures of characters that aren't Batman. And they throw all the women in there because Todd hates making them, but he also hates that people want them and call him sexist for not making them. So this is his version of malicious compliance.

      Couldn't have said it better myself! I never thought about those legs until you said it. I feel the same way now. Even 6 1/2 would fix a lot of them.

    • @marvelingabout8240
      @marvelingabout8240 Місяць тому

      Don't think it is the sculpt itself but rather the long joints used and not reducing the body to compensate for that. Reuse and wrong bucks are way to frequently used. Kid Flash is way too big for example as with females. Bad choices for Starfire not to have more hands or atleast another head to show the hair flow.

    I’ve had some dc figures that I love. But every single time I buy a dc figure, I always fear moving the joints. The QC issues are my biggest problem with them. I can look past cheap plastic, ugly joints, and lack of accessories, but when my figures are literally falling apart 2 seconds after unboxing them…nah what are we doing. The Robert Pattinson Batman was a figure I HUNTED for at the time. Only to come across him a month later, open him, and have his arm not want to stay in its joint. Even some spawn figures. Marvel legends may have gummy joints, but I’ve never had them fall apart as many times as I have with multiverse
    Edit: came back to talk some more shit. The first time I bought a whole dc wave was the dc metal wave with the darkfather BAF. I found all the figures clearanced at a game stop and I was like why not. That BAF was the cheapest feeling figure I’ve ever put together and some pieces just refused to stay on. I ended up selling it along with the wave to someone who really wanted them. I was so disappointed and it really turned me off from building any others

    I love the DC Multiverse line, even with it’s faults. They have a lot more shelf presence than Marvel Legends imo, and the figures feel more unique to each other than Legends do. I like the larger scale and I like how the characters have unique physiques and sculpted details. Mcfarlane definitely puts out a lot of figures I don’t like, especially when you factor in all the junk repaints and variants. So cherry picking the line is a necessity. But Mcfarlane puts out so much product that I never feel like there’s a shortage of cool stuff coming out.
    I have never had a problem with the way the figures articulate either. The inconsistent scaling is my biggest issue with the line, and the Green Arrow and Martian Manhunter figures you showcased are two of the worst offenders in that regard.

    • @ClevasMultiverse
      @ClevasMultiverse  Місяць тому

      I'm not against DC at all. I just wish he was more consistent with a lot of things. 2024 has seen some changes that I've very happy about. I think DC Multiverse excels with bigger figures. That new Darkseid looks great and so do Doomsday and Swamp Thing, Bane looks official too. You just have to really cherry pick them. Once we get to smaller characters and females I feel like it all starts to fall apart though. No line is 100% perfect. I could actually do a video like this for any line but Multiverse stands out the most to me in my collection for the reasons that I stated. Thank you for commenting! I appreciate all of the feedback and thoughts from the community!

    McFarlane figures are really hit and miss. Some of his figures have amazing looking sculpts and are a great value for the price point. Other figures look horrendous in terms of proportions and have nightmare inducing face sculpts. I've also noticed that a lot of his figures have almost no muscular definition in the arms and legs, which is odd in a superhero line. Another problem is the plastic used in the accessories like weapons is incredibly cheap and can't even hold it's shape. Look at the hammer that came with Steel for example, he can't even hold it without it bending because it's so cheaply made.

    • @ClevasMultiverse

      @lfabio.n Місяць тому +1

      I agree with most of the points on the video and in this comment, but one thing I don't know what to think about is the muscle definition. What was and perhaps still is portrayed in comic books is not realistic, even in an undressed body. I think the proportions really are off in some cases and extremely ridiculous in others, but that's something only expensive figures get right most of the time not always, apart from Hot Toys. I think McFarlane's ups are more constant than Hasbro's and his downs are not as low and constant as them.

    My order would be different, but I share much of what you said. Only one I would add is the whole availability, exclusives, preorder, chase thing. But my number one is the articulation. Just openedca Batman the other day, and in addition to zero useful horizontal leg rotation, the ankles are so loose that he has a hard time even standing upright if not posed carefully. It's ridiculous. They are capable of better.

    I collect all figure lines. With that said, DC Multiverse has far better sculpting than most domestic lines. Marvel relies mostly on repainting antiquated body molds like the Vulcan buck. You’re paying higher prices for 10 year old articulation. And Hasbro is still using that atrocious waist cut. Jada Toys just came out and their Street Fighter figures are where Hasbro should be in terms of sculpt and articulation.

    • @ClevasMultiverse
      @ClevasMultiverse  Місяць тому

      Very True, sculpting on Multiverse figures is better. TBH it's almost like their movable statues almost. Like an action statue over an action figure if that makes sense.

    Man, i want to like DC Multiverse. DC is my pick for superheroes in general, but i have most of the same problems you do. The 7 inch scale isn't even a big deal for me since i have a lot of NECA and Masterverse stuff they'd go well with! But the quality of the figures just isn't there most of the time. The plastic feels weird, the articulation is rough, and the designs almost always have basic mistakes in them compared to the source material. Be better Todd!

    There are valid points, and some valid critiques that can be thrown at Legends and other retail lines, even the old DC lines especially the Mattel DC Multiverse line. There has been some great stuff this year with the wired capes, vehicles, legacy movies figures, and collector waves have been getting really good to me. For me, not many misses and I've never had a figure break due to moving it around it. I probably have over 200 DCM figures.
    I guess its preference but I use to be big into Marvel legend but once you get into the 100 figures range 80% of them are the same old plain bodies. McFarlane reuses too and has mostly moved away from new highly detailed bodies that he did the first two years. But its still a better experience to me than Legends or most retail toy lines. But for an example of a new one check out Cyborg Superman. The detail is amazing but the down side is to get that detail you get a version that most people wouldn't have preferred.
    Legends in general go better together and are designed that way, but DC Multiverse under McFarlane tries to make each individual stand out in some way.

      I want that Cyborg Superman so bad, he's one of the ones that I'm trying to get my hands on. Him and Steel! I will 100% agree that this year has been the best for DC Multiverse. The problem is that it's 2024 and all of these figures are like impossible to find so people haven't experienced them like that. I still wanna keep my old figures too.

    • @ClevasMultiverse
      @ClevasMultiverse  Місяць тому

      I try to stay away from commenting on other UA-camr's because I find that this "community" is very sensitive if you're not a part of their echo chamber.
      With that being said.... my personal opinion is that a lot of them buy figures for content... that's it. Without a new figure they really don't have anything to bring to the table. Go to whoever's page and look at ALL of their videos. Most of them are ONLY the figures.
      Me personally, I only buy a figure if I like it and I want it in my collection. I would never buy something just because they put it out. This is why I rarely have anything negative to say.... because things I don't like stay on the shelf.
      I also try to incorporate other aspects into my channel and mix everything up. I can sit down and talk about figures in general without having to show it. I don't really see that all that much. I also made the channel about comics, figures, movies and games, so that it can open up more possibilities.
      Most channels that I come across need a figure so they can have a topic, they knew in their heart that they hated it in the beginning..... so why spend your money on it? To me, Less is More.... and that's actually gonna be one of my upcoming videos too. Thank you for your question, I appreciate you! I hope I was able to help out with my thoughts!

Todd's figures for the most part, look like melted wax. 90% of the characters he makes look nothing like the pictures on the package. Platinums mcfarlane does are very annoying. All the obscure characters (the ones I want) are mostly behind the $30 collectors edition Mcfarlane line and that’s too much money to consistently spend on figures to build out my dc ranks. The scale should have been 6 inch instead of 7. It’s stopped me from buying characters that I want because they won’t fit in with my 6 inch figures and I don’t want to start all over again like you said. Avoiding any sort of comparison between the two lines is too difficult because each has its own indiscretions. Primarily, the scale is all wrong and I am beginning to think Todd's ego got in the way to make that decision to go 7 inches. The marketplace has determined that it was a bad idea. I used to collect the Arkham DC Collectibles line and the articulation there was non-existent so the DC Multiverse is a breath of fresh air to me. I agree on the too many Batman’s but I mean Batman sells. I live in a smaller city and I’ll I see in the Walmart DC sections are Batman unfortunately. You are right with his obsession too. Also they pick insanely weird and random releases too which can be annoying but overall I enjoy the line. I grew up with Marvel Legend and Marvel figures because of my Dad and they were awesome too.

    I feel you bruh. I really wanted the line to be good because I like DC. But it sucks so much.
    My reasons I don't like mcfarlane multiverse are:
    1. Scaling within the line is all over the place
    2. Proportions are so bad
    3. Engineering of joints feels rushed and lazy
    4. Face sculpts are ugly

    1) I disagree with the joints. Comparing them to DCUC was a mistake because as you said, they barely have joints. Multiverse, depending on the figure, can pose extremely well especially the newer ones.
    2) I’m not defending McFarlane here I’m just stating that the figures are molded in the paint. But it makes me miss DCC so much because paint was where they excelled at when it came to those CW figures or Icons. But I don’t miss that clear plastic. Yiu complain about McFarlane’s plastic, look up DCC’s clear plastic issue. That was insane.
    3) I can’t argue with Batman, I 100% agree here. And what’s worse is they’re making more characters but they’re exclusives or chases!!
    4) McFarlane has always made 7 inch or 5 inch scale. When you brought up the line up and said Batman was big, that’s a DCUC Batman you had that for whatever reason, Mattel made 7 inches. Also that DCUC Darksied is still ass. But what I will say even within the Multiverse line, they can’t stay consistent with their own scale, but making the figures 7 inches is not an issue, it’s just a preference. I mainly collect important which does 5-6 inches, but I love 7 inch scale like NECA and DCC used to do.
    5) Todd for sure is a hot head, but someone at McFarlane IS listening. They tried side eye, everyone complained, they stopped. People wanted alternate hands, not they come with them. They wanted more alternate heads, when the flashpoint flash came out they said that’s how it’s going to be now without having to be a whole new figure for just a head. People wanted cloth cape, now we get cloth cape WITH wires! Todd might not listen, but someone sure is to do all these changes!!
    I’m not here to change minds and I’m not a multiverse fan boy, I personally stopped collecting after Grayson batman and moved onto strictly imports. I’m just a guy who loves dc figures and been on the wild roll coaster of the inconsistency as you guys.
    PS; the McFarlane release of the animated series is ASS. They’re so shiny compared to the original DCC and it’s so frustrating!!

    I mostly collect 6-inch (Marvel, G.I. Joe, Star Wars), but I also collect a few 7-inch lines (Spawn, Masterverse, NECA Gargoyles, Cosmic Legions), so the scale doesn't bother me. But I am very selective of which DC figures I collect, basically just Batman-related characters, and then only from stories that I'm especially nostalgic for. So I've mostly got characters from the The Dark Knight Returns, Knightfall, and the Arkham video games.
    From the ones I have, I think the figures are slowly improving. The Knightfall Batman has pretty good proportions and articulation, and some of the new figures have cloth capes with wires inside for posing. I feel McFarlane has yet to make my ideal Batman figure, but I've seen some pretty good kitbashed ones online (arms from this figure, belt from that figure, etc.) and I'm thinking about trying to assemble one myself.

I have that knightfall batman too and I think it's one of the best ones out (yet still not perfect). They are improving but the scale is still off. One area that I think they excel at is bigger figures. I'm thinking like Bane and them. Those come off excellent to me.

    DCC Icons were excellent. Just needed some more head range. People were complaining about the size and that was mainly why that line was discontinued. DCM started ugly then made improvements the following year. Plastic was good, like Bizarro but started to reuse way too much and plastic seemed to change. Feel it with newer ones. These have articulation but the balance sucks. Legends, even gummy ones are way easier to balance a pose and don't look as off when dynamic.

    I’ve dabbled into DC Multiverse figures only three times. Arkham Knight Scarecrow, Comedian Joker and Arkham Knight Batman. They all had different pros and cons. In retrospective, I don’t like the figures anymore.
    The extreme liberties the company takes with the source material is staggering. I try to believe that they do have access to it but that doesn’t seem to be the case because even in neutral pose, they mostly all look like ultra-buffed cosplayers… not to mention the sabotage that was the DC Direct reissue for the Animated Series.
    Jada Toys have proven with the Street Fighter line that you can have good sculpt and great articulation at a respectable price point. Their Chun-Li is INCREDIBLE! Again, same price range as DC Multiverse, Black Series and Marvel Legends.
    His comments about female figures made me stop buying his products entirely, especially since my “holy grail” is the figma Dread Samus… But I can’t have a decent looking Wonder Woman because the stock is all over the place or nonexistent due to poor distribution and scalpers (creating a false demand) and she doesn’t scale because 7”.

    Let me preface by saying that McFarlane DC multiverse is indeed my favorite line right now, but I do understand the gripes.
    The ratchet style joints have pros & cons: a pro is that once it’s in place, it’s far less likely to loosen an fall over, but a con is that a lot of times, the position you really need it in is right in the middle of two ratchet points, so that can be frustrating.
    The over abundance of Batman can definitely be frustrating to the non-Batman fans, but that’s a marketing strategy for the stores themselves. Walmart & Target are glad to have Batman on their shelves, but they’re unlikely to agree that Ragman needs much space in their store. Batman is far more likely to sell to the casual consumer who just happens to walk in and see it.
    On the thing, I’m probably in the minority, because I collect more larger scale lines like NECA & Storm Collectibles, so McFarlane fits right in with those. My Hasbro stuff just looks small now, so it stays in a totally separate room because of that.

    The joints have detents on them, and the figures aren't hard plastic they are actually a softer plastic. There's nothing wrong with the plastic they are some of the sturdiest figures I've handled. As for scale, well for a start the Darkseid there is infamously undersized, and the DC Icons Superman and Cyborg are a smaller scale than the dcuc figures. McFarlane make figures in 7 inch scale, figures they were making before DC Multiverse like Mortal Kombat and Fortnite for example. So why would they make their DC figures out of scale with the other figures they make? That doesn't make any sense.

    • @ClevasMultiverse
      @ClevasMultiverse  Місяць тому

      True points... I do feel that Darkseid and Cyborg may be undersized but the whole line kinda was. That aside, they still flowed better when you wanted to mix them in. It didn't feel like David and Goliath too much.
      I'm not sure about sturdier. Harder would be more on point, I'm sorry. Please take one of each figure and feel them both with your eyes closed. Dc Multiverse is harder and rougher. They are not smooth at all.
      Mortal Kombat and Fortnite are independent properties that you would keep alone on a separate shelf. You would have to know or at least assume that people would want to mix DC and Marvel. You disagree?
      Dc was also already being done and Todd stepped in and picked up the mantle. Again, he knew what he was getting into. DC is not his property, having this mentality for Spawn is more than appropriate. Applying it to a whole industry that is not yours... idk. If you ask me he kind of disrupted it. How was Mortal Kombat and Fortnite disrupted like this?

      When it comes to Batman I think we are both right. He does have a lot of pivitol costumes, but those are not the ones that Todd is putting out (all the time). Ok, so when I think pivitol I'm thinking. All Black, Dark Knight Rises, Blue and Grey, Black with Yellow Emblem, Batman Beyond, costumes like that. Those are costumes I can see people gravitating towards. DC Multiverse at this point is putting Hugo Strange as Batman. (is that just knightfall Batman with a different head sculpt?) The one I was pointing to was from the Frost King wave (wack). Dark Detective Batman is trash to me. I don't really care for that Superman/Batman Hybrid either. He's deff getting his money back from his Batman Tooling lol.
      I wanted to touch on that Gold/Platinum chase part but Marvel kinda does that too and just calls them store exclusives and so do other brands. I felt like that was industry wide and not specific to DC, but you are 100% right with that too. They should all just do away with that, figures are hard enough to find as it is I think.

    About the scale, I don't agree, Masters of the Universe Classics were 7 inches a long time ago. I think it's 50/50 from what I can tell. You also have 1/6th scale figures that are meant for other people. I think the greatest problem with Mcfarlane is that he tries to cut all corners, and I believe, this is just me wandering, if a figure didn't turn out great, he releases it anyway. Some of his figures, I just don't know how he can keep a straight face after releasing them. Some of them are great, some are passable, I think the sculpt work is superior to Marvel Legends and is just being rivaled by Mattel's Masterverse after the fiasco of the first releases and completely put to shame by Jada. But overall, they have a great sculpt, because he's into statues. He can't understand from the perspective of someone who likes action figures. But you're spot on other than the scale imo, the face/head sculpt on his first Superman is way better than almost all other companies were able to come out with and he's starting to drop the ball on this department with Superman, but still you have three or four rereleases of that head sculpt that look really great imo as well.

    I’m going to pick on Ragman for a minute, because that figure exemplifies why I have all but given up on this line. You’ve got a super cool and very rare character choice. You go the extra mile and give him a cloth cape and hood. However, you put him on the Jon Kent body with the sculpted boot cuffs that are inaccurate for the character. Then you completely forego the paint apps on the back of the figure just like you did with Clock King, Psycho Pirate, etc. Why? Because he wears a cape?
    I’m not okay with that. You’re asking for my money in a very competitive market, but you won’t spare the expense to sculpt a blank pair of lower legs for a buck you’ve used (incorrectly) several times in the past and likely will use (incorrectly) several more times in the future? You can’t paint the costume design on the back of the figure? This is happening with just about every figure that McFarlane makes anymore, or at least the ones I’m interested in. I don’t know if it’s a case of just being lazy, just being cheap, or both, but I do know that I deserve better, I can have better, and I will have better.

But Todd outright refuses to do them. And even worse is he refuses to do female figures because he sees no market for them. The fact we dont have a Multiverse Classic Zatanna, Big Barda, Killer Frost, or Lois Lane really ticks me off. I cant get a figure line knowing ill NEVER complete a team or hero/villain gallery. With Marvel Legends you have hasbro scraping the bottom of the barrel of obscure characters that some collectors dont care for but others like myself are ecstatic to see. The fact my spiderman collection has guys like Razorback, Hydro Man and Beetle, who casual spiderman fans wont know who they are, are made by hasbro shows they care about the character's history. This is with the line spread across comics though all eras, movies including legacy movies, and a tiny bit or cartoons and TV shows, and gaming universes.That can be pro or negative depending on your view but makes sense thats what they want to do with the Multiverse brand. My biggest problem with the quality control is scaling his own figures barely scale with other McFarlane figures, and those shitty ankles, they finally got rid of the ugly ass balls in the wrists & ankles but they didnt fix the giant ratchet detenses!
    And yes I get "Batman sells" but no we don't need a Batman in every wave not even every other wave!
    And also agreed Todd McFarlane can't handle criticism in the slightest and that's the biggest problem with his company and all his defenders out there saying "oh what are you talking about he listens to the fans" no he doesn't you have talking to him like a child and kid his ass with praise or it's just awkward and with the few thing he did start listening to his fans about he did begrudgingly or because it was more cost effective not because he was trying to please his fans that made him the superstar he is all full of himself and shit!

      @@ClevasMultiverse I'm pretty sure everyone is still wondering why Warner Bros mandated DC Multiverse to be 7 inches in the first place...

Hence why McFarlane Toys had to work around that by releasing those weapons packs not under the DC Multiverse brand

    I’ll have to agree to disagree with a lot of your points, but the one that I disagree most with is slapping Todd for making too many Batman figures but then making excuses for the number of Spider-Man figures we get. Companies make the most variants of the characters that sell the most figures, and that helps fund the rest of the line. Marvel releases five Iron Man and five Spider-Man figures for every single secondary character. So the “Todd releases too many Batman figures” argument is invalid if you’re accepting of Marvel’s practices.

    • @SymbiSpidey
      @SymbiSpidey Місяць тому +1

      Legends does release A LOT of Spider-Men, but it's balanced out by the fact that they also release a lot of other characters too. We have a bunch of completed teams in the Legends line, whereas it took forever for us to just get a basic Justice League lineup.

    • @ClevasMultiverse

      Oh trust me, I can do this same video with Marvel. I just started with DC because I feel more strongly with them. I will give it to you 100% that Marvel does the same thing, I think it's just less apparent because they spread it out a little bit around 5/6 characters. The one that gets me the most upset I think is Iron Man. All the Iron Man variants get me sick. Most of the time I can't even tell what the difference is without a microscope and the accessories are always almost the same. Wolverine would be second on that list because all of his costumes are not iconic. (Just because he wore them doesn't make them Iconic) They burn him a little too much, especially this year. Spider-Man is a little more forgiving because even in the game you wanna go through a lot of the costumes. Although I don't want all of them irl either. He has a lot of costumes that I can see people wanting. I think with Batman I should have been more descriptive. I get a little upset because I feel like Todd just makes up variants that I've never seen or makes you buy the same fig twice for a head sculpt. Maybe if he spread it out to include more Justice League members it wouldn't stand out so much, especially Wonder Woman.

I mean Spider man 2099 and Miles Morales both have spanish in them and I think they work out great. They tried it with Blue Beetle and I'm still on the fence about it. I actually get mad when they race swap characters for no reason, like they did with the Fantastic Four movie (Now it doesn't make sense). These characters came out when that was the theme and that's what it was. I look at comics and figures as an escape from reality and I don't want it to remind me of my day to day. I'm trying to get away from that. That's exactly why I hate this whole D.E.I. agenda. I'm down for all new characters and if they work out they work out but let's leave the classics alone. No need to reinvent the wheel. If it's not broke don't fix it. That's my thought on that.

His one on one battle with Kobra, with their physical and verbal exchanges, was an instant classic. I loved that touch of confidence bordering on arrogance that Holt had. How could you be that successful in life and not be a little arrogant? Kobra even called him on it. As far as too many batmans sure thats valid but legends just got a whole wave of characters we have seen in almost every wave forever ,spiderman ,wolverine ,iron man and another captain america . If u buying those cant say nothing about batman honestly . But lets look at how todd responds to all the issues ppl say about his toys and has made improvements . Todd made statues for decades ,those were the first toys i collected so to even see any articulation is amazing to me . Not every figure needs to be able to do yoga ,i myself dont reall care since most of my figs just stand on my shelf until i decide who they will fight next ,and there are a lot of them that get no play at all becuz i have so many of them . Not all collectors are acba ,not all of us need 50 pts of articulation . And when will hasbro come up with cloth capes ,vehicles and playsets ( that are not $300 haslabs ) ? All companies have their strengths and weaknesess . And like i said ,i barely buy multiverse or legends im a 3rd party type ,but i did trade in my mafex cyborg superman in for the multiverse ,it just looked so much cooler to me even though it didnt have the cloth cape or acessories the mafex had .
