Always surprised at how much grease and oil people allow to build up on their drive train. It's pretty quick and easy to keep in a reasonable state between full services.
I'm on the bike, every single day,365 days per year,no car... I have never ever neglected my bikes in the manner that I see here! And I rarely clean my bikes!! 🤣 That frame is beautiful,I would never neglect that Trek like that!🥺
Always a joy when Wednesday rolls around and there is a new video. The before/after shots really highlight the startling difference on the bikes you work with by the time you've gone through all your processes 👍
Id love to see a complete guide on fixing V break ! I have trouble with mine, i tried to best i could but left side is too close to the rim and the right side is too far away….if i tight the break more then left side touch the rim but then the right side is close enought to the rim but not to close to touch it. If i loose the break more then left is still close to the rim and almost touching the rim but then the right side is now way too far and no longer break…
Those 8 watts sound unplausible. A clean chain is I think 98% efficient, so assuming 200w of input that's 4watts lost in total. 0.8 maybe? On another note: what bearings are in the jockey wheel?
@@Bikespeeds bushed to bearings is pretty big difference, ceramic bearings in particular. When you spin them the comparison is amazing, in real live I think I read about 0.4w less for the best bearings compared to steel bearings if I remember correctly.
I look forward to these videos every Wednesday it’s now become part of my midweek Decompression/ Destress routine….. Seriously.😂 I’m already looking forward to next weeks Triathlon bike strip down. Great job you guys when I see how much care and attention you put into servicing the bikes I wouldn’t give a second thought on paying whatever you said it costs . Outstanding 👏🏽👏🏽.
It’s also my destress Wednesday evening thing. Simon edits these and often the first time I watch them is the same time as it’s published. I love our Wednesday evening sit down for the premier
Dont really like the ”dusting” because its ptfe in, shuld only be used in like time trials, velodrome and inside. Gets into the nature Great video as always otherwise 😄👌🏼👍🏼
no spoke damage with that snapped hanger? very lucky it didn’t get sucked into the wheel! hope the rider wasn’t hurt. must be a scary mechanical to have while out riding
I feel like they must’ve used a petroleum based protectant on their drivetrain. That residues qualities make me think of cosmoline, I highly doubt it’s that, but there’s a bunch of similar things that are rust preventatives which harden over time with exposure to air.
That dirt was from “car motor oil”, I’ve seen people use it to lube their chains because it’s “cheaper” & you don’t have to grease it that often. PS it has the opposite effect 😅
Wonderful bit of restoration. Thank you for all that you do and explain to the cycling community. Although I appreciate the format with the sped up footage, is there anyway to slow it down like five percent? Just so we can see a little more of the intricacy with certain things? Again, thank you for the vids!
Is this true that crankset screw should be tighten with blue loctite like they looks when you buy single crankset screws? Copper grease or loctite there ?
I do a regular detail to the frame, wheels and components. But what helps most is several coats of Meguiars hybrid ceramic wax, dust and dirt and dead bugs just fall off after a ride. I definitely don’t let my cassette and derailleurs get to that point this bike got to, I can guarantee you that’s what snapped that derailleur hanger. Great video….hopefully riders see what regular cleaning and lube will do for a bike because I’ve ridden with people that don’t and you can hear it in the shifts and when they brake….they sound horrible.
Love this stuff! Not long after I’ll go into my little “shop” and work on my old 10speed bike and I’m like, how the heck do ya get this off hmmmmm lol doesn’t work out as well. More practice 😊 cheers from Quebec Canada
Another bike lovingly bought back to showroom condition. The oil/lube on the rear cassette was really odd, I’m struggling to think what was used on it, as you said it wasn’t lubricating ?!? 🙌😎🇫🇮
Hey man, loving your videos! But I have a question, idk why but I always have a problem with my backwheel it has some play in it and I don't know how to get it out. Hopefully you know this, thankss!
Another great video! I just finished installing a new set of tubeless tires and a freshly waxed chain on my wife’s Trek. Made me smile as I watched you install a waxed chain on a Trek in this video. 😁
It's amazing how many people over tighten the head bolts. I can totally understand why, no-one would want their bars coming off mid ride. But surely, that particular one would've been just as dangerous. Great job, as always 👍
great work, the bike looks amazing after service. I really need pre-approve a budget for misc items next time I service mine, it really pains me to see those rusted bolts left on an otherwise perfectly restored bike
Wether it’s a 10000$ cervelo or a 500$ trek ,the videos are always magic !
Thanks for watching Zach
Always surprised at how much grease and oil people allow to build up on their drive train. It's pretty quick and easy to keep in a reasonable state between full services.
Ive been using WD 40 for all purpose but i think it was not meant for bikes lol theres a thick grease that build up on the chain and rear gear…

Thanks for supporting us every week🧡
Great work as always lads! From the maintenance to the editing, top notch work.
Thanks for always watching Ivory🧡
Looks like a new bike! That waxed chain and cassette look great. Nice job as always!
I wonder if the unknown buildup is Squirt wax lube. That residue looks remarkably similar to the dirty, thick buildup I got when I used Squirt.

Just a q: Where do you get, e.g., a fitting bolt from?
Great video. Thanks. As an amateur bike mechanic this is bike porn for me. Looking forward to next week’s.
Enjoy your own bikes, thanks for watching!

This was on a sora they don’t have bearings. They are bushed.

this is cooking oil

i think that might have squirt labe that was long passed needing cleaning off

You guys, are the only ones, besides me, that lubricates every pivot point on the bike parts! Good job!

It´s so pleasuring to see you working and the result of it. Thank´s for share in youtube !
Really nice bike that one I have a carrera racer whats very similar love the colour of the bike once again fantastic work bikespeeds
Don't try those hanger straitened on a Triban, they just snap

Always disappointed that I now have to wait another week for the next one!
Still here!! Sorry for delay! Hello from germany today!
Wax is the way to go especially the price of oil 😂
Always looking forward to the videos..
Every Wednesday is a new learning process
Watching from Nairobi Kenya..

We’ve recently started using ceramic on our bigger rebuilds, your work sounds great, enjoy and thanks for watching!🧡⚙️
It looked like a new bike at the end.
Stellar job

Enjoy your bike Zick, you’ll get the hang of it!🧡⚙️
Amazing job! Incredible the amount of gunk that came out from the jockey wheels!
The owner will think you sold them a new bike. Well done!

Phenomenal attention to detail as usual. Love your videos.
Nice. 👍
always watching from philippines
Thanks Calvin🇵🇭🧡
Another great video! I just finished installing a new set of tubeless tires and a freshly waxed chain on my wife’s Trek. Made me smile as I watched you install a waxed chain on a Trek in this video. 😁
considering how greasy the drive train was, I wonder if they would maintain a waxed chain
Seen that kind of build up from people using muc off chain lube
How do people allow their drivetrains to get that bad?
How much did you charge for all that?
I suspect that was a lithium based type grease
impressive!!
Thank you!
Another Wednesday another superb restoration service. Great job as always. Look forward to the Ironman bike next if it all comes together.
Check back next Wednesday for that one! T thanks for watching as always 🧡
Once again an excellent watch.
Thanks John!

Thanks for watching!
Another bang up job. That old Trek looks spot on. 👌
Thanks Terry!🧡⚙️
Outstanding as always.
🧡🧡
Can I use WD 40 on my bike?
It has its place, it’s great for getting marks and sticky residues off frames without damage. It’s also a pretty good degreaser.
