      Don't forget to thank Desilu Productions. The entire board nearly tossed Star Trek after the first episode. Lucille Ball was the only one who saw the potential, deciding to give it another try. The only actor she agreed to keep from that first episode was Leonard Nimoy. Who new?

      @@kellyjeaularson5786 Actually, James Doohan invented the Klingon language used by Mark Lenard as the Klingon captain in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture". At that point it was just a couple of words and phrases but Mark Okrand took what Doohan had started and fleshed it out to become the conversations between the Klingon Captain, magnificently played by Christopher Lloyd to be used in "Star Trek: The Search For Spock" and it has finally morphed into what we have today. In fact, in the Klingon Language dictionary, Okrand has a forward thanking the captured Klingon Maltz, portrayed by John Larroquette, for his assistance in making the Klingon dictionary. Good work by both these men for designing the Klingon language. Wo’ batlhvaD.

      @@kellyjeaularson5786 Here's some more "awesome" to brighten your day:
      There is a movie called "Please Stand By," about an autistic woman who writes a _Star Trek_ script for a contest held by the studio. When she is unable to get her package into the mail so that it will arrive on time, she runs away from her group home to deliver the script to the studio herself. She has a lot of harrowing adventures, but the part I want to highlight is when a couple of policemen find her, and she speaks perfect Klingon to them. One of the cops is a Trekkie as well, and he has an entire conversation with her in Klingon!

On one of the "fillers" this same lady was speaking fake Klingon and Space got a huge influx of hate mail because she was not speaking Klingon. So, they created this parody called Klingon 101 to make amends. We played Klingons in all three of them, and had a lot of fun doing it. Can't believe these are still playing after all these years. "The Star Trek failure series"???
    Enterprise was very well done. It had a larger budget for special effects than any other series in the franchise, and had many memorable episodes that gave depth to the TOS species and expanded the canon. Also, TOS only lasted 2 1/2 seasons before it was cancelled whereas Enterprise had almost 4. So, Diane, what constitutes failure?

    • @dianejones3884
      @dianejones3884 8 років тому +5

      Wasn't me that deemed it a failure. Guess it was the ratings or some big shot CEO who had a relative that did not like it. I liked it.

    • @scottkester3641
      @scottkester3641 6 років тому +3

      Just to be clear, the original series went 3 full seasons, NOT 2 1/2, as you state. Look it up...

    • @redcardinalist
      @redcardinalist 6 років тому +3

      It also had many, shall we say, rather (too many) poor episodes and sometimes crapped on canon from a large height (bit like Discovery). Perhaps those are part of the reasons why it's viewing figures declined severely and it was subsequently cancelled? As for failure well, compared to TNG, DS9 and Voyager I definitely think it could be considered a failure.

      Enterprise started to get really good near the end of its third season. TOS was cancelled because of their poor ratings evaluation method back then and terrible choice of time slot, but that shit blew up in syndication.

    Back when I actually put up with terrestrial channels the one advert that grated on my nerve was from Rosetta.
    Because they promised to teach you proper "pronunciation" but pronounced it as" pronounciation".
    I myself learnt my grammar and pronunciation at kindergarten from a sweet Irish lady who prepared all us infants prior to entering school itself.
    I learnt French and a little Spanish from family members when we visited them prior to having to teach my first french teacher which bits of her vocab were incorrect.
    The best way to learn any language is the doctor who approach.
    Just get chatting,try the local food,kiss the random stranger,and learn the local customs as you go.

    You hear in the DVD extras that the actor who played the Klingon on Earth in the first season of "Enterprise" knew nothing of Klingons or the language. Yet he had to rattle off two or three sentences in fluent Klingon, since that show was set in a time before Universal Translators.
    So, he spent the week before shooting, saying the phrases over and over and over again, until he got them perfect. To him, he was just memorizing gobbledygook, but he *had* to get that gobbledygook right.
    Otherwise a zillion Trekkies who *have* memorized Klingon as a Second Language would be all over him on social media!

    🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the laughs! I love funny commercials! Check out the Di Giorno's Area 51 pizza commercial, which is also available on UA-cam. I've watched a bunch of their commercials, and I don't even like pizza. It's something in Italian sauces that doesn't agree with me. I have the same problem with some seasoned Polish meats, including kielbasa. That always bothered my family when I was growing up, because we are mostly Polish American, with some German thrown in. I do like kishka, though, but haven't had it in decades.
