Happy upcoming 15th birthday, iPad 🎂 Actually, my first iPad was iPad 2 released in 2011 and it opened up a whole new world for me! Currently using iPad Pro 11 (2021), my love for this beautiful, versatile device only continues to grow ❤ And I look forward to a new version to come out this year. Thank you for this precious content, Faiz. It’s always delightful to find fellow iPad lovers 😎👍🏼
This brings me back. My grandparents gave all the grandkids money and my grandpa was a huge Apple fan. He had the iMac G4 and had sticky notes for keyboard shortcuts. I decided to get the iPad because he would have loved it. He’s the reason I got into tech and for my love of Apple products. Crazy how much has changed but also has stayed the same. I remember getting this and thinking how light it was and powerful. Now, the iPads I have are over 100X more powerful and can do so much more if I choose to. You’d have to go to an iPad Air 2 or iPad Pro 9.7 to have an iPad that still runs okay and a new enough version of iPadOS without a jailbreak.
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! I am seriously a big fan of yours. Love how you are so personable and truly passionate about tech. Your iPad content convinced me to buy one and I love it. Keep up all the great work!!
I still use mine, I swapped out the battery for a brand new one and it works like a charm. It's been designated as the "ipad_Home" I keep it around with several books installed on Kindle and IBooks. I have a 2006 macbook as a backup with allows me to use and older version of Kindle. And when I purchase books on Amazon, I'm able to receive the purchase download on my devices, including the 1st gen ipad. It may not be the top Ipad of today, but it suits me just fine. I don't need all the bells and whistles ( even if I wanted all the bells and whistles, I cannot install them.) If I wanted to watch youtube or use the camera or web browse, i can use my desktop and my laptop. but I enjoy the simplicity I can still watch movies remotely via blue tooth from my laptop or mac mini, pandora works, itunes works. Oh and the wifi works and I can use the hotspot from my iphone. I'll keep it because it's the very first ipad. I love it. :) For me, it's still usable in 2025.
When I bought this 1st Gen iPad in 2014, it already couldn't be updated. Most websites wouldn't load, and it was hard to install a 3rd-party PDF reader. Because of this, my 1st-Gen iPad is only used to put me to sleep with audiobooks and music. That must be WHY this thing is STILL running today. I use it every night, and it plays audio...all night. Amazing. My 8th-gen iPad does more, can actually browse the web, has a lot more apps, and is just great. Will it last as long my my 1st-gen already has? Who knows?
I never could afford to buy a iPad when they first released but now I finally got my first iPad M4 11in last month and love it. On a side note, could you please tell me what bracelet you’re using with your Apple Watch? It’s so awesome and makes it look like a mechanical watch with style.
I have one of the orginial Ipads. The unit does not charge anymore and I have several pictures on it that would like to get off of it. Any commindation for a company that could get the information off of it.
I actually still have a 2nd gen iPad that I use at my church. I use it to control my in ears mix. i think it has iOS 9.3.5 on it. I'm unable to download any "new" apps but, any apps that I had downloaded several years ago will still download to it but I just choose not to. Fortunately, I don't rely on it for anything else so, it just stays at my in ears station plugged up lol. I actually did use a 1st gen up until about 2014 when I upgraded to the mini that came out that year or in 2013.
I bought the first gen iPad. I think I still have it somewhere in a closet. I eventually replaced it by getting the first gen iPad Air. Which I ironically replaced with the first 10.5 inch iPad Pro. To then I replaced it with the new M4 iPad Pro 11 inch. It’s been a journey lol.
I will admit... I wasn't a believer when the iPad was revealed either. I wondered who wanted a giant iPhone that couldn't make calls. Definitely underestimated the device and it's amazing how far the tech has come! Hope they continue to make the software more capable
Simpler yet more exciting times. I also think the 9.7” screen is the optimal screen size and it’s a shame it no longer exists. Also, you’re wrong that it was considered super thin and light in its time. It was not, iPad 2 came out the very next year and way way, way thinner and lighter.
This was a great walk down IPad memory lane. I do have a question about your recommendations regarding potential security risks using iPads that won’t run latest version of IOS. I haven’t seen this discussed on UA-cam. I still use the 2017 IPad Pro and it functions very well but am concerned about security risks as it will not update beyond IOS 17 and is no longer supported by Apple. Thoroughly enjoy your channel and all the great tech info!
Crazy how the new portable 11 inch by Half inch thick device is better than a super computer from the 80s and how far we come in 15 years how it’s now obsolete
Nobody find this ridiculous? No matter the hardware, the tablet should have an option to upgrade the OS to any newer version you want (might become super slow since the old processor and low memorry but still), it's not like they can't, it's literally programmed obsolescence in a nutshell and people just keep happily buy newer version of this..
@@FaizAly thank you for your reply! Nothing supper snazzy. I have now the 10.2 inch 9th gen iPad. Waiting for the nicer models to come down in price a bit...on eBay. :D
Oh man! Couple things I remember about iPad 1. Watching the 2009 version of Star Trek on a late flight from Anchorage and Seattle and the pissing war between Jobs and Adobe and the fact that imbedded flash videos wouldn't play, grrrrrr . Every time I read a comment that is "iPadOS sucks" my response is STFU, you have no idea! Thanks Faiz! Made my Friday night with this great trip down memory lane! Oh, and no, I won't trade you my iPad Pro M4 11" for that! 🤣 Have a great weekend!

You have a great review. Now, could you compare the first Nexus tablet to the first iPad? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

It's amazing how tech has evolved while still retaining core ideas, right?

I really appreciate you saying that! 🙏🏼 That genuinely means a lot to me
Thanks for making the fantastic content for iPads. This really brings me back.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I love revisiting older tech and seeing how it holds up.

@@FaizAlywow that’s incredible and perfect 👌🏻 you have great taste buddy! Keep up the good work and happy new year.
I have a 1st gen iPad running iOS 3.2.2
Wow that’s awesome to see it still running!
Such a cool trip down memory lane. Wish I had kept my original iPad just for nostalgia sake. Those bezels 😳😳 Great video!
Thank you! Great nostalgia indeed!

Thanks for the dinosaur. I mean walk down memory lane lol!!

if there is no mistake, it shipped with IOS 3.2.
it start with the aging single core A4 processor, how fast can you expect it to be ?

I know what you mean - I was skeptical too!
I had the same thought as you!
Good old times tbh. I still remember seeing the old Lock Screen with the “slide to unlock” on there and some of the old apps.
The slide to unlock is super nostalgic!
@ Agreed! Honestly, it seems uncommon for content creators to look back on the first generation of these devices
Edit: typo

The sad part is my 9th gen iPad also doesn’t have tap to wake

Thank you so much! Yes that’s the thing unfortunately, as the software updates stop, the device is prone to more security risks
@ Thanks!
Dang we have come so far. So used to see you with latest iPads that it’s interesting to see you holding the original iPad 😅
It's crazy how far tech has come, indeed!

Until a couple of years ago, I was still using my iPad Air 2. Thought, yeah, maybe it’s time I moved on, and upgraded to one newer.
Nice! Which one are you planning on upgrading to?

My Galaxy Tab 4 will have somewhat more functionality although I'll admit it'll never be as fast as that iPad.
