in an interview for when he was in BoO, he said he wrote everything on guitar pro then practiced all the time until he learned it perfectly. What a madman.
Davide Pannone he brought his guitar everywhere in high school, he was on it every chance he got, he's just extremely talented as well, his precision is ultimate
Yeah, put the time in and you'll get there, I by no means am now where near him, but I was practising 6-12 hours a day practising from my 2nd year till my 4th year of playing and was improving massively in a short period of time, but then dumbed it down lots afterwards, you CAN get there, literally just put the time in, and in your spare time pull your hair out for how boring it can get. ;)
I love how people bash on him cause "he's just shredding with no feeling..." as though lots of other guitarists could play like this but choose not to in favor of "playing with emotion". The number of people that can cleanly play this song live at the same level as Jason is pretty small. I'm not saying there isn't value in a more melodic and stylized playing style. And of course, high level technicality without nuance can get boring. But there are thousands of guitarists that play all kinds of styles with various types and levels of emotive playing....so what's wrong with a guy carving out a niche in a way that very few can match? Style and emotion are purely subjective....but Jason's technical skill is objectively better than 99.9% of the human population....can anyone honestly say that isn't worthwhile? You don't think Jason feels a very unique and powerful emotion when he can do something that very few people in the history of the world can do? We don't need cars that can go a quarter mile from a stand still in just over 3 seconds, a Camry is a much more useful thing....but if you've ever seen a Top Fuel drag car in person.....it's fucking amazing.
Richardson is special because most of his music isn't just technical "nonsense", like playing simple patterns of a certain scale up and down extremely fast. There is some of it, but while other guitarists use these things as highlights of their playing, Jason often uses it as transitions between more interesting sections. They serve as bridges that bring you from one place to another without losing all the tension that this virtuosic style usually embodies.
There is no way you can listen to this song and tell me Jason does not have feeling. He destroyed three different types of music in one song. He played country and jazz in a song, in a way that did not feel like stereotyping those genres. The thing is not whether or not he plays with feeling.... the problem ( for his critics) is that he takes you through a vast array of emotions in blinding speed that most people are not accustomed to digesting. I connect on an emotional level with his music. Just my opinion. Jason Richardson is all feeling, he just does it faster than most.
Kevin Pardo it's actually the Monarchy Majesty series, new to 2017! Instead of the Lazer etched maple and a satin finish it's a high gloss body with a flame maple shield! pretty eh?
I wouldn't listen to this song as a musical choice but this if fucking sick. He loves guitar playing and loves to do this, criticizing is pointless. In this league of music and passionate technique and precision enthusiasts this is nothing more than respectable in a world- class sense. Not many people in the whole world can achieve this, deep bow and keep rocking dude.
Ali Sodowski The way Rick plays his solo is definitely much better than how Jason does. But I'm sure it'd be the opposite if Rick tried playing Jason's parts.
Was there. So sick. Dude is incredible. Purchased the album when it came out and enjoyed however after seeing him live super inspired and listen to it literally front to back at least twice a week.
For me, he's the most interesting guitar player in the world right now. it's that easy. Also, Jason seems like the most down-to-earth guy in the world. :-)
The new virtuoso. This is the future. Never thought I'd see guys like this destroy the guitar and be recognized for it. Tosin too. So many awesome players.
Holy hell?!? Never heard of this guy but 😵. Sweeps, chik'n'pickin, jazz licks, riffage....patch changes...yikes! This is 👍💪. Need to see more of this dude.
Angel Vera Gunthrie is incredible too, but he's definite not as good as Jason in the technicality department. Jason's songs are RIDICULOUSLY more complex, and that says something.
Jason leaving Born of Osiris and Chelsea Grin was the best thing to ever happen to him. Seriously, Jason is beyond pretty much every band out there in terms of technical ability and just plain skill. His tone and clean playing is impressive. I'd love to see Jason, Luke and Spencer form a permanent group.
Ali Sodowski Hahahaha. I'm almost certain Jason would tell you the same thing. Jason can't touch ricks legato if his life depended on it. And that's not me rshhing on him. Very few people can.
This composition looks like a showcase of technical mastery but after hearing it two times I cannot remind anything but the manic rhythm in the middle-section.
My thoughts exactly too. A lot of guitarists now tend to focus more on the technicality side but sacrifice melody songwriting and feeling. It really doesn't do anything for me, it just amazes me how technically good he is and nothing else more. There aren't a lot of dynamics in the playing of guitarists nowadays.
alex skolnick, one of the best thrash guitarists there was. I was confused when he started playing jazz but anyone that can span those 2 genres is indeed a musician at heart.
Not gonna argue songwriting or "feel / soul" since they're both subjective, but in terms of technique alone Jason still comes out on top for me. I'd rather listen to Guthrie, but some of Jason's solos are on another level, and he performs them live flawlessly.
@@NotAnemia I don't know man, I think both styles are vastly different, they both flow in different ways. I love Jason but I think Guthrie's style is much more likeable, at least for me. Jason could actually play most of Guthrie's work but it would just sound weird, different styles.
Jason is easily one of the most technically advanced guitarists I've ever witnessed. Transitioning through several styles of playing all in one live take is beyond amazing. I also love how he can nail all his parts flawlessly and still somehow struggle with Rick Graham's part. It's not a slight against Jason - everyone has their own style that can be hard to imitate but holy fuck what a credit to Rick for making this insanely skilled dude sweat!
Firstname Lastname It’s a HTWL reference. Vow of Volition’s guitarist has a series called “How To Write Like ____.” In JR’s episode, he dissected Jason’s documentary and went “wait, what is that?” upon hearing Jason’s laugh. Jason’s laugh is “Tss-awh-hah!” So VoV’s guitarist made a meme of it and hashtagged it.
Abner Cestari It's getting insane, first we have Rusty Cooley then JR pushes the envelope on the speed limits of human articulation one notch higher.... But..... Musicality is being sacrificed here, this is just pure acrobatics that gets tired and boring after a while
Now where did this kid come from?! I didn't play guitar my whole life to be shown off by some snot nosed scab picker that looks like he fell into an ink vat. Damn, if my hands contorted like that I'll have some serious carpal tunnel. Mighty impressive man.
He’s incredible and has taken technique to another level , but imagine how much time every day you he has to invest to keep on form to play like this, he’s gifted but he’ll still need to practice to keep this up , not just a bit allot.
Crazy seeing where this guys went over the years, remember seeing him on here years ago shredding songs as kid, then he went on the play lead guitar for All Shall Perish when he was like 17. Fucking crazy. Now hes in the top tier of guitarists period. Awesome to see someones journey like that and proof that hard work, sheer talent and a youtube account can take you places haha!!!!
His articulation and picking precision is out of this world. Can't imagine for how many hours this guy practiced. Jesus christ.
he learnt guitar by playing Children of Bodom and Dream Theater LOL
Titan solo is Kissing The Shadows - CoB's third solo but on speed
Davide Pannone well when you got Matthew Mills teaching ya you're gonna be a bad ass guitarist haha
in an interview for when he was in BoO, he said he wrote everything on guitar pro then practiced all the time until he learned it perfectly. What a madman.

That Rick Graham solo is a monster. But then again so is Jason.
i love hearing his mistakes (because he rarely makes them) I'm like okay this guy is human too!!! i feel better!
I think like you! He's human too, and a better guitarist then everyone who's saw his mistakes HAHAHAHA
Where is the mistake🤔
Japhet Anciado 3:32
When Jason Richardson messes up you know the song is hard as shit!😅
Taylor Warren for me its the opposite
It's definitely harder for me to shred standing up. My sweeps are cleaner and I have a less messy riff.

That is perfectly put, nice job man.
and tbf the main riff is really enjoyable
@ty qwer Considering how deaf a lot of guitarists seem to be, it is really no surprise.

Most based comment i have ever seen
Jason is one of the best guitarist of the new generation!
He's being so careful not to screw up Rick solo haha !
it was easy part compared to Jason's
Ali Sodowski but Mr. Graham has a hell of a lot more "feeling" than this dude.
no he doesn't... Jason has great feeling, people are trying to use "feeling" as an excuse because it's hard to prove it
Ali Sodowski The way Rick plays his solo is definitely much better than how Jason does. But I'm sure it'd be the opposite if Rick tried playing Jason's parts.
Clayton Knutsen that's an opinion, not a fact
Jason's technique is amazing and his commitment to getting his strumming action in time with those incredibly fast beats is just another amazing part!

Hm, I don't think so. Every interview I read and every video I saw told me different.
(at least me :-) don't wanna sound rude.)
N4tur4lb0rnch1ll4 No i get that. I've met him and talked to him a few times. I can't tell if he is introverted or just doesn't give a single fuck haha
james trivitt Haha I feel you :-D Nice for you meeting him. I wish I had :)
N4tur4lb0rnch1ll4 try to go to one of his tour dates!
How can anyone dislike this.. the man is genuine and very articulate with his music
Haters gonna hate because they can't play like JR
I’ve heard this song a million times and it still amazes me watching it being played live
I know Rick's killer solo overshadows the riff at 5:30 but can we acknowledge how sick it is?
FELLA'S I JUST MADE UP MY MIND, IM BUYING THAT AXE !!! FANTASTIC PLAYIN JASON!!! CAN'T WAIT TOO SEE HIM IN NEW YORK CITY, NY 2017 !!

the master has made more mistakes trying.

Thanks for playing on my channel, man. You're seriously the best guitarist I've ever seen play.
is that a majesty? seems like those who bear the majesty are gods XD jason, ed garcia, petrucci
It’s funny cause it’s actually a really small guitar, and it looks huge on him
Short people smh
He did it.... He did even the rick graham part. Am so jealous.
cuz he is better guitarist than Rick
Don't be silly, Jason is a master of shred, Rick is a master of guitar
Max Oak nope, he is not, he is incredible and amazing but Jason is still superior
Ali Sodowski Hahahaha. I'm almost certain Jason would tell you the same thing. Jason can't touch ricks legato if his life depended on it. And that's not me rshhing on him. Very few people can.
SeanMcFarlinTRE Rick's legattos are untouchable. He makes it looks like effortless, barely lift his godly left fingers
This composition looks like a showcase of technical mastery but after hearing it two times I cannot remind anything but the manic rhythm in the middle-section.

remember when he played at nam 2015 and barley anyone showed up lol such a difference good for him
Jason's head is huge.
Useful for storing maximum knowledge of Shredology.
Hes really good and technical
Bricklinsv1970 I agree with you, he's a mindless shredder at times tbh
Agreed, I respect him for his technicality, but the melodic and harmonic aspect of it is ass
