- Today I'm starting a HUGE attic clean out. Decluttering my attic is going to be a long and painful process my friends. It's my first declutter with me of 2021 and it's a big one. I'm starting the process of decluttering and organizing my attic. This is about as far from minimalism as you could imagine, but we've got to start somewhere, right? Things you want to give to the charity shop you should use the app called olio it’s a app that allows you to post things you don’t want anymore and people can pick them up for free xx ps would love a decluttering your attic series

I had a light bulb moment when you said items not being used are being wasted plus they are taking up space !
That realisation is a big one if you’re the type of person who feels guilty for getting rid of things. I always try to remind myself of that ☺️
That's my paradise, I would love to clean and organize stuff like that. I've run out of things to clean and organize here. Yesterday I just vacuumed everywhere because I had nothing else to sort. You can do this! Start small, open one bag at a time and filter it (garbage, recycling, donate etc). Little bit every week, you'll be done soon! Just another piece of advice (my super-minimalist friend does this). For paper stuff that has sentimental value, like your grade 3 certificate etc. Save all emotional papers in a pile and scan them. Then put all the emotional historical stuff in one USB port so you can have them saved somewhere.
That is my fear. When I run out of clutter I'm going to be so bored haha. But it's great that now everything you have is organised and decluttered. Those are great tips. Thank you!
I did this a few years back and paid for my holiday that year with all the car boot sales I did from it! I really did make me feel less anxious, before I always had it at the back of my mind that it was there. It took ages for me too but you won’t regret it.

I have no idea where it came from, but it still has the security sticker on and the charger has never been unwrapped. How did this happen? 😂

I know you said you felt disheartened, but don't be - those kinds of storage spaces are the worst! And in any case, this is pretty realistic for how decluttering goes in my life - between work and kids and house, my declutters, when they happen, are rarely packaged neatly with a tidy bow!

I am also doing the attic and it is so overwhelming. Just boxes who knows what's in them my stuff mixed with my mothers and fathers stuff. Just papers and small boxes on top of the boxes. I am going through literally everything and packing it up in a logical way for when I move out. Like a bamboe tooth brush holder shouldn't be in the same box as a marble cutting board.

Thats how i feel about my basement.My Mission for this year.This is reality. Its not always just categories. Sometimes its just random chaos.

I would be curious to see the evolution of the attic. You should have someone to help you to bring the things downstairs. Maybe could you take a bunch of things downstairs and sort them there? Because it doesn’t seem very comfortable in your attic and chiefly you don’t seem to have enough light. I perfectly know what this is about. The progress comes faster than we think. So all my best to you for what will follow up!

I recently started my parents/my shared attic of 22+ years in my childhood home and I was so motivated until I actually started. It looks similar to yours but actually more stuff, to the point you can't really walk more than about 2 feet from the loft hatch/hole. Like it's stuffed. I brought down a few boxes and bags and it filled our landing and took hours to sort yet the loft looks NO different whatsoever. Feeling super bummed now and dreading my next declutter session up there :(
I hope your not throwing the unused stuff in the bin. Donate it.
Also decluttering is not about speed, it is about doing it right. More realistic the fact this video is not a quick process.
Please do show end result. I am doing decluttering myself and it is taking time. Anything unused selling or donating once charity shops open.
I really need to declutter my mom's attic as she's not able to do it by herself but i'm claustrophobic and arachnophobic so I've been postponing this for years now TT_TT I have to muster the courage to do this next time I'll stay at my mom's
I had a space like this once. What helped me was I stood in one spot and took a series of pictures. Then I would do that every couple of weeks. It was motivating to see how much progress I was making in such a huge mess. Eventually I got through it and I know having those photos were very helpful (I kept the photos in my notes on my phone). I wish you all success!
Love a good clear out, I sorted out my entire flat at the start of the year (ready to probably start hoarding again haah)

Lofts are tough areas to declutter. I decluttered my whole house no problem but then I started the loft and found it tough. I've been doing it in chunks as when I feel like it and found this has worked.
I currently have some stuff set aside to take to charity when they open.
I have two huge boxes of my kids school work. This I'm stuck on as I feel I should keep so my kids can look at it when they are older but I don't think they will want to keep it themselves. This is the only thing I have left to sort then it's done.
They are SO tough! I didn't expect it to be so hard. When I went through the box of my old schoolwork, I kept the most interesting things (my story-writing book for example) and then got rid of all the maths, Science, Geography work etc. Those things are just answering questions and aren't fun to look back on whereas the stories I wrote as a kid were really quite funny to re-read. Hope that helps a little!

Probably 80% of the stuff in the attic is mine 🙈 I used to be the absolute worst at getting rid of anything so I would just keep putting more and more stuff in the attic. Now it’s time to face it and get rid of all my junk so my parents can have their attic space back 😂
I need to do some more sorting on our attic, but it is -30C here at night and our attic is unheated. During the day right now it is -20C to -25C up there. I have to wait until April....🥶
