ohhh geez yeah theatre schools can be so scary and elitist seeming.. im glad u shared this story, would love to hear any others you have - you're such a fun storyteller amy :')
truly! There's a small theater community in my town, so we basically know EVERYBODY. Once you scout the room and see that the more experienced folks (that always get lead, or main cast) are there, you know it's game over and just want to go home lol
Yess, I would love more audition videos! My worst audition, well, first of all I don't do this often, I'm a science student and there's not many theatre opportunities here BUT I once auditioned for a kids theatre show thingy and I was about 14 I think (I'm 20 now and better at accepting rejection). I nailed the improv part and was so excited about it but then during a certain part we had to be an animal of a choice and for some reason I chose... wait for it... a hedgehog... It was my favorite animal but then I realized I didn't know how to be a hedgehog so I just rolled on stage. They didn't even laugh, they were like "wtf is this child doing". At the end they all called us on stage and told us one by one who could come back the next day and when they said "no" to me I full on started crying on stage and they didn't even try to comfort me they just stood there like "wtf is this child doing". Was I crying because of period hormones or because I was a crybaby? Who knows...
Drama schools are great IF'YOU'RE A TRIPLE THREAT. I'm also not the strongest dancer so that means that drama schools won't take me which is shame since i am a really strong singer and actress. ITS NOT FAIR 😣
Again with the beautiful Heathers pillows ❤️💚💛 Honestly, I would have given up right then and there XD. Especially with the dancing. I can’t dance at all
I’m almost certain I know exactly what this school is. I had the exact same feelings. I got recalled to the afternoon though, didn’t get accepted, asked for feedback and was told I couldn’t sing, dance or act 😂😂😂
For my school show the audition had 3 parts. Singing audition Dancing Acting It's how they narrowed us down. I probably destroyed the dancing so I was given a role that didn't dance. It was hilarious. For the 'Kansas city' routine (we did Oklahoma) me and another girl who also had a no dancing role (all girls school. We play male parts to fill in) had to sit on a side stage attached to the apron stage and just watch and we had lines during it and had to count the taps to cue it. But for the dancing we all took our shoes off because there were some spinny bits and we couldn't do them with shoes on. So we do one bit and I just slip and I don't fall. Instead I slide and almost hit a table before awkwardly stumbling back into place. Luckily Karen the dance teacher didn't say anything because she just saw me go bright red. Afterwards all the girls were asking if I was okay because of how bad it looked. Then of course we had to do a bit by ourselves. I was terrified. It was still early on and all the backstage crew were still in the room. INCLUDING my CRUSH (I'm bi. She's very nice) and I wanted to hide for a week. It was the same during auditions for the end of year graduation thing and I was stumbling awkwardly through dances. I had another slip up and crashed into another girl and sent us both flying and luckily I got to hide for a week because I got an eye infection that was kinda contagious. Also I hope I don't mess up for college. My friend Kate who's like really good at drama said she'd email me a verruca salt monologue from willy wonka and the chocolate factory because she says I have a fiery attitude and would do it well.
I remember when auditioning most of the schools I auditioned for were like 5,000 people are auditioning and maybe 20 will be accepted and I had the exact same thought. Like... Should I just leave then?
Oh gosh that sounds so awkward! My most awkward audition was for a prestigious choir (I won't name them because my relationship with them is a lot more than just this story) and all my past choir experience was from my school choir, but my teacher had really really pushed me to go along. Most of the people there were really musically talented people who could play instruments and read musical notation etc. When I arrived for my audition and everyone was given their own little room to rehearse in, including a piano to play while they warmed up, I felt so out of my depth but I just reminded myself that although they preferred people to be able to read music, it wasn't strictly a requirement. I sing my audition song and it was one I literally knew inside out. We'd done this song for so long in choir, my teacher would switch me into a different section every 9 months so I didn't get bored of singing the same thing (I liked a challenge). The next part of the audition was a test of my sight singing abilities and I said upfront (and had also said in my application which he had in front of him) that I couldn't read music. I was ignored. I said it again and I was still ignored so I picked out a random key to tell him the music was in. Then he tried to give me a clue but the clue only made sense to people who had a background in reading music so again I told him I didn't know. I was quite a meek kid at this point. I would be more confident and outspoken around the people I knew, but with strangers I was not like that at all. I'd been so polite the entire audition but then he said "How did YOU get a B in Higher Music when you can't even read it?" and that really hit a nerve with me. To me, that's the equivalent of saying that someone who can't read is incapable of having the imagination to come up with a story. So I told him in a cold tone that I practised and memorised my performance pieces instead of relying on sheet music. I went out of that room so convinced that I would get a rejection letter (and actually I wasn't confident on the way in either, I'd only went along to prove a point to my pushy teacher that I couldn't sing) but I somehow got in. To this day I think they made some kind of admin error but it was a great experience!
I’ve only been to one audition so I don’t have any bad stories but this was such an interesting video please do more storytimes !! Will you please do a helpless or satisfied cover?
Wow! I'm so glad you survived this! I just started auditioning 2 years ago at an older age after years of anxiety. Still haven't got an in lol my latest audition for Memphis was kinda terrible. I had 2 songs planned out but one I'd have to accapella but they always say bring sheet music. LIES. I did my song and had to go up many octaves and AFTER I sang everyone and their mom did accapella! I also suck at dance lol I just couldn't do the dance and they kept starting without me. I prepped a year for this so was upset I didn't get it. It's about to play now and I may still be hurt to want to see it but I'm also poor lol
My worst audition experience was actually my only one (because prior to that the shows I did were by signing up) and this was last year, for Legally Blonde. I was one of the last people to go, and I was so nervous. I was listening my song, Defying Gravity, on repeat. Once it was my turn, the auditioned asked for my name and said I could start singing whenever I was ready. I started singing, and once I did, boom. Brain fart. I completely forgot the rest of the song past the first chorus. Luckily, the auditioned were super nice about it and told me that I could stop if I needed to and I didn't have to sing the rest. I then moved on to the acting portion, which was a series of lines from the show, and I did pretty well on it, but that didn't really help the embarrassment of the singing portion. I did end up being cast, but that audition really stuck with me.
Oh my goodness I feel you! Sometimes I think the best thing is to not entirely trust your singing teacher with song choices that’s what happened to me. Also my dancing was worse than I thought it would be on the day and I couldn’t move my body and neck in 2 days 😂
I was laughing so much the entire time 😂😂 The editing made it even funnier! My worst audition was for a uni production of Rent, I had to sing Out Tonight (totally not fit for my voice) and I screwed it up BIG TIME so I told them that I went to a Justin Bieber concert the night before (I actually did) and that’s why my voice was so raw. I hate when people make excuses and I still have no idea why I said that. Luckily I still got in the ensemble.
My worst audition was my first week of uni. I came with the goal that I was going to get over my fear of singing to an audience, and I'd had such a great freshers week that I was brimming with this ridiculous confidence, and threw myself into the first audition from the drama society. They wanted me to read a scene and sing a song from Matilda, and I was so ridiculously confident it was as tho I forgot my greatest fear AND that I suffer from panic disorder... until I got into the room. It was like some snatched a sheet off my face and suddenly I was in MY LITERAL WORST NIGHTMARE and these three intimidating third years are staring at me from behind a table like fuckin dragons den. So I quite literally, no exaggeration or lie here, literally said "nah, do y'know what? I can't I- nah. sorry I wasted your time but... nah" And walked the fuck out. just walked out. bye. * p.s. about three weeks later at a party a friend introduced me to a drunk girl who took one look at me and said "OH YOUR THE GIRL FROM THE MATILDA AUDITION!" so I'm dead now, hi from the grave *
I love hearing bad audition stories because it just reminds me that we all have them. My first professional theatre audition was A MESS! I had no THEATRE audition experience, only film and I went in confident because I had booked the first film I auditioned for so like, I got this... right? Wrong. There was some very specific blocking that I had to GOOGLE because I had no idea what they meant and then I went in, started walking around the stage while doing my scene and you know when you just KNOW in your gut that you're doing it so so so wrong? I kept going anyway. The cd asked me to do a couple of things differently, and then I started forgetting lines, going back, doing it again but the worst part was the dance improv, I FEEL YOU THERE AMY!!!! I FROZE. I couldn't do it. AT ALL. Needless to say I did not get a callback 😂
My worst audition was the second audition I ever did. 9th grade, first time I got to choose what song I would sing at an audition. (My first audition had us sing "At the End of the Day" for Les Mis). I brilliantly chose to do "You'll be back". The conductor proceeded to call me out and say that the song was too low and slow for me. He was really nice about it though and made it into a faster and higher key for me to sing, and I at least got ensemble. I have had a recurring theme of picking bad audition songs though, such as "You Don't Know" for Fiddler on the Roof. This year I'm changing it all by singing "Stepsisters Lament" for my Cinderella audition.
This is similar to my audition for a musical theater program at a college in NYC, I didn't really have dance clothes like this others did, I'm not great at dancing so I figured I'd just try to have fun but it was so bad. Oh and I sang different cut than I gave the pianist. I sang Far as from the home I love from Fiddler. I accidentally start at the beginning of the song instead of the end which I choose as my cut luckily it starts the same notes wise and I just ended with "Yet with my love I'm home". They didn't say anything but I did not get on to the program.
I just came back from an audition for Mary Poppins: nailed the singing, was doing ok on the dancing and then I biffed it and totally fell...yeah...so we'll see if there's going to be a callback...(not counting on it) UPDATE: I actually got a call back for the role of Mary Poppins (1 of 6)! Didn't get it, but still nice to know my voice at least was good enough for a call back!
My worst audition experience was not that bad but basically it was for my first musical and we had to pick a song and sing sixteen bars, so I've never done this before and have had no vocal training so I turned to UA-cam to get audition tips and find out if there were any songs I absolutely shouldn't do. I finally decided to do don't rain on my parade from funny girl because I like it and I didn't figure anyone else would do it. I get to the audition and there are some people I know (because I've done shows with this director before), but there were only five of us because we were the oldest group. So we sang a song they taught us and did a little dance (I can't dance btw) and then I was time for the songs we picked. So I was last and the girl right before goes up and says "I'm going to be singing don't rain on my parade from funny girl", I wanted to run away because this girl was an amazing singer and we were about to sing the same song only hers was going to be so much better. But I stayed and she sang (amazingly) and I sang (not so amazingly) and we did both get cast, but I've never been so scared as that moment when she announced her song.
Well... I was auditioning for my high school play (Robin hood) I was a freshman and I got so nervous that I just shook my head and nearly cried when the drama teacher called my name. I ended up talking to the teacher and getting a small background part. That was the worst thing ever in my life. I was so humiliated.
My drama school, you had to audition halfway through your second year of training to be considered part of the program. At the end of audition week, they hand out envelopes that have whether you can continue or not in the program along with your notes from the professors. I did not make it despite my marks being fairly good. And then I saw it. The one shit remark that still haunts me. “Pretty face. Try losing some weight.” Turns out the professors couldn’t decide if I was a character actress because my weight or an ingenue because of my face. So they cut me from the program altogether.
I think you’re talking about Arts Ed and that was the school I was hoping to audition for, the audition standards or whatever might have changed so I hope that it’s not like this when I audition haha. I know someone who got a scholarship there 😬
I had an awful experiences with the drama school you're talking about. I didn't get a good vibe from them at all, and they were so rude! I had an audition for Mountview (who are lovely)the day after and loads of people from the **** ** audition the day before were there too and they all had awful experiences with them as well!
I feel like this could be Guildhall? Because the principal there gave us the most disheartening speech ever at the open day so I decided not to even bother auditioning there, and it was just so much more intimidating and unwelcoming than any of the schools I actually did audition for, I wouldn’t ever consider it again honestly.
Once at an audition I forgot the dance routine for a part of the song and just decided to make up my own dance for the part I didn't know. I mean o big or go home I guess
The only audition I’ve ever done is for my middle school musical (fiddler on the roof) and we were all assigned to sing “My country tis of thee” (I’m from America) and I HATEEEE that song. It sucked. I sucked. And never perused theatre again LMAO but I still loveee musicals
Hi! Really hoping you'll see this and reply, just wondering what school you eventually trained at? I've done my first year of auditioning this year and boy was there a mix of good and bad ones 😂😭
I once auditioned for Roger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella (at a kids theater camp ages 7-14, I was 12 then) and I sang Ten Minutes Ago. My voice completely cracked on "She's taking me back to the sky." And somehow I ended up getting the role of Joy! ?????
I was auditioning for a drama school and I had two monologs that were written for boys, but the gender wasn't mentioned and didn't play a role in the text either. Normally, that is OK, theater is getting more experimental anyway and gender more and more irrelevant, but at this audition, the first thing they asked me was: two texts for male roles... why's that? It kinda through me off, but I replied: well I was looking at the content not the gender. After this audition I was extremely annoyed by the whole atmosphere that was created and the way you were treated when you came to audition. I mean, is it too much to ask for basic human decency or for me to keep my dignity? Also: I was called in over an hour early and after they rejected me I asked for feedback. I figure they would have time for it because they cut me off 5 minutes too early and called me in early as well. The answer was: no sorry, we're already behind schedule.... Yeah sure, totally believable. At least think about an excuse that fits the situation. Another person who auditioned for the school got called out for her age because she was already 25, even though you are allowed to audition for this school until the age of 27...
Skeleton Emma I say audition! You audition for the character you want...AS THE CHARACTER!!! What I always tell myself since auditioning gives me anxiety is when you are acting, you aren’t yourself. You ARE the character! So audition for whatever you want and keep telling yourself that
Go ahead, girl!!!! I'm shy as heck my first audition was for a movie musical and I sang a lullaby!!! But I ended up booking it, it was an amazing experience even though the project didn't move forward. It's really scary to go out there and do it but it's so rewarding when the audition ends and you're like "I did it!"
Aha pretty sure Ik what school ur talking bout cz I think it’s a bit better now but I’m pretty sure from the layout of the audition and lip reading u saying it I auditioned there although now it’s just they plop u in front of everyone else auditioning n tell u to sing n the dance well I broke my toe doing a pirouette or leap at that audition n just had to keep goin safe to say I didn’t get an afternoon callback however at a drama skl near me also v high ranked in drama schools they made ppl redo technique over n over if they got it wrong n I got called out for spinning the wrong way for what leg I was holding up pirouetting even though that’s how I’d been taught to do it the way I had been although I accidentally said f*** I don’t remember the monologue( I never swear either which makes it funnier)n sang out of time in the other part so didn’t get that school either 😂😂💕
i was auditioning for miss hannigan in annie- i sung little girls (it was required to sing a song from the show) and i did so well! everyone was saying i was gonna get the part.oh god.then...the next day, i had to go again. and it all went well until i had to sing a higher note. god. SO off key. so i cracked a joke, every one laughed, but my music director made me redo it 3 times to get the note. so yeah. but i got lily st. regis which was awesome! :D moral of story, everyone has embarrassing auditions. dont beat yourself up.
i actually have only done one audition, for a musical. The dancing part was a diasaster, I cant dance. At one of the parts I did something different than the rest so I kind if stood out... And for the singing part, which I had prepared quite well, they had to help me sing at the right time, which is a struggle for me. I was just sad I didnt sing at the right time. When i got an email that I hadnt been called back, it said: this doesnt have to be because of your qualities! We need to find someone that fits the role, so you probably didnt fit the role. And i thought: are you,... sure... it wasnt because of my qualities?
ohhh geez yeah theatre schools can be so scary and elitist seeming.. im glad u shared this story, would love to hear any others you have - you're such a fun storyteller amy :')
you're too good to me girl! x
O H I M S O L A T E
I LOVE UR VIDEOS BOTH OF U
*should we just go home now?* literally my mind to me at every audition 😃
Cosmic Royale same
same.

Charlotte Taylor SAME
You shouldn’t let that get to you imo, if they see potential in you and they see a confidence to learn new things they’ll notice it and let you in.
Do acting then lol, most leading drama schools in the uk are insane for acting for stage and screen
try taking dance class once a week. it makes picking up dances so much easier and you improve so much because teachers are always there to help
I'm shit at dancing and i'm amazing at singing and acting. h e l P-
'whY did you pick it'
omg I would've died
Can you do a video talking about drama schools in the uk what schools would suit dancers/actors/singers?
Again with the beautiful Heathers pillows ❤️💚💛 Honestly, I would have given up right then and there XD. Especially with the dancing. I can’t dance at all
Marlissa L Garcia do you mean the BEAUTIFUL Heathers pillows? Sorry I will go home now...
💚♥️💛
aspiring to be a triple threat performer but being s*** at dance is legit the hardest life. :(
literally me hhahaha
I relate!! That’s why I started ballet because it’s the basis of dance and I want to learn technique
I’m almost certain I know exactly what this school is. I had the exact same feelings. I got recalled to the afternoon though, didn’t get accepted, asked for feedback and was told I couldn’t sing, dance or act 😂😂😂

Emma I once fell off the stage. It was horrible :/
Spring awakening is just the best production with the jumping around dancing. Don’t feel bad Amy, I look insane dancing to spring awakening too.
I didn’t even watch this video yet, but I already know it’s gonna be good...
SO WELL DONE!!!
I can 100% agree
Your Heather pillows are perfect

I’ve been following you on like all social media for so long and you answered my question in a livestream!! I was so happy, love you x
These are the definitely my favorite types of videos!!!
Great story! I’d love to see a performance mishaps/mistakes video, not sure if you’ve done one already.
Omg those pillows give me life!!! Love you xx
Once I was about 3 hours late to an audition because of traffic. Needless to say picking up the chepregory in 2 minutes didn't get me a place :((
I feel like this was Arts Ed😂
Ben Simon Wilson Yeah, same😂😂
Lucy Henig ikr I feel like it was too 😂

Or urdang but yh ArtsEd

NightSimmer Happy birthday 🎂
I have an audition tomorrow!!! Your story was really funny lol (it pretty much sums up all of my auditions)
Good luck!
My worst audition was my first week of uni. Your hair is honestly iconic in this vid
Awww I love your story times Amy! You’re the best and deserve WAYYYYY more followers. Hope you have an awesome week!
Omg you need to listen to Next to Normal and Bare if ur into all those dark and emotional musicals!
Would you recommend an acting degree instead of a MT degree because I want to be an actress?Which drama schools would you recommend for acting? Xx

PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!
I just came back from an audition for Mary Poppins: nailed the singing, was doing ok on the dancing and then I biffed it and totally fell...yeah...so we'll see if there's going to be a callback...(not counting on it)
UPDATE: I actually got a call back for the role of Mary Poppins (1 of 6)!
I’ve never been to an audition. Because they never do friggin musicals or anything for people younger than 30 in my country.
This is 100% and arts ed story. I could tell from how you started it.😂
JeanysunnyD haha she hearted it so definitely
Well... I was auditioning for my high school play (Robin hood) I was a freshman and I got so nervous that I just shook my head and nearly cried when the drama teacher called my name. I ended up talking to the teacher and getting a small background part. That was the worst thing ever in my life. I was so humiliated.
Atleast you didn’t show up an hour late like I did to my first community theatre audition lol
hahaha the editing in this video is GOLD
thanks beth!
I love ur vids so much!
KaraE .Igo that's so shitty I'm sorry you went through that
That stinks!
You are so brave auditioning! I think I would be to scared to audition
HA i love this! i've never actually had an audition before so glad to know what i'm in for :)
LOL I hate when we're asked to improvise in a dance audition. It's so annoying but I get why they do it haha.
I got a this isn’t for me feeling at central like I knew it straight away lipa was a this is for me this is where I’m meant to be for my interview
I saw mean girls today! it was amazing!!!!
This is hilarious HAHAHAHA, love you ❤️😂
I'm dying at you being called out!
Oh Amy, I was sat in a food court watching this by myself and had to stop from bursting out laughing! You poor thing though, doesn't sound fun xx
hahahha
The only audition I’ve ever done is for my middle school musical (fiddler on the roof) and we were all assigned to sing “My country tis of thee” (I’m from America) and I HATEEEE that song. It sucked. I sucked. And never perused theatre again LMAO but I still loveee musicals
You can tell how long ago this was because they used a spring awakening song
Was this Urdang Academy? I want to audition there 🤞
Meg Tabitha sounds like Arts Ed
Hi! Really hoping you'll see this and reply, just wondering what school you eventually trained at? I've done my first year of auditioning this year and boy was there a mix of good and bad ones 😂😭
I did my degree at London college of music and my foundation at mountview x
2 videos in one day yes
Oh my gosh how do I get that pillow
OH HONEY 😭😭
I once auditioned for Roger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella (at a kids theater camp ages 7-14, I was 12 then) and I sang Ten Minutes Ago. My voice completely cracked on "She's taking me back to the sky." And somehow I ended up getting the role of Joy! ?????
Arts*cough*ed or mount*cough*view 😂😂
Haha! 1:49..... arts*cough*ed
definitely urdang
Absolutely not mountview
Beatrice Hooper is arts Ed
Another person who auditioned for the school got called out for her age because she was already 25, even though you are allowed to audition for this school until the age of 27...
im so sorry that happened - it definitely doesn't seem very fair!
ive never auditioned for a musical: 1. im too shy 2. *I dont think I can sing* 3. im still too shy lol
Skeleton Emma I say audition! You audition for the character you want...AS THE CHARACTER!!! What I always tell myself since auditioning gives me anxiety is when you are acting, you aren’t yourself. You ARE the character! So audition for whatever you want and keep telling yourself that
TYSM!!!!! that honestly made me feel better!
exactly what i feel
Go ahead, girl!!!! I'm shy as heck my first audition was for a movie musical and I sang a lullaby!!! But I ended up booking it, it was an amazing experience even though the project didn't move forward. It's really scary to go out there and do it but it's so rewarding when the audition ends and you're like "I did it!"
Zoe S.
Thank you so much!!!!!!
Aha pretty sure Ik what school ur talking bout cz I think it’s a bit better now but I’m pretty sure from the layout of the audition and lip reading u saying it I auditioned there although now it’s just they plop u in front of everyone else auditioning n tell u to sing n the dance well I broke my toe doing a pirouette or leap at that audition n just had to keep goin safe to say I didn’t get an afternoon callback however at a drama skl near me also v high ranked in drama schools they made ppl redo technique over n over if they got it wrong n I got called out for spinning the wrong way for what leg I was holding up pirouetting even though that’s how I’d been taught to do it the way I had been although I accidentally said f*** I don’t remember the monologue( I never swear either which makes it funnier)n sang out of time in the other part so didn’t get that school either 😂😂💕
i was auditioning for miss hannigan in annie-
i sung little girls (it was required to sing a song from the show) and i did so well! everyone was saying i was gonna get the part.oh god.then...the next day, i had to go again. and it all went well until i had to sing a higher note. god. SO off key. so i cracked a joke, every one laughed, but my music director made me redo it 3 times to get the note. so yeah. but i got lily st. regis which was awesome! :D moral of story, everyone has embarrassing auditions. dont beat yourself up.
😭😭😭
Loved this vid
i actually have only done one audition, for a musical.
Ohhh man I am so glad that someone else besides me learned not to used Your Daddy’s Son the hard way 😂
hahahhhqa
I feel for you my love!
I think I’ll stick to community theatre 😆
I sent a drawing of heather chandler to Jodie Steele and she tell lies saybg she loved it ,I died
I'm too scared to audition because I'm a *horrible* dancer
I decided drama school wasn’t for me after I received a very similar “pep” talk to yours- *hmmmm could it be same place???*
may I ask where your heathers pillows are from?☺️
redbubble x
Gurl i love you
THIS IS WHY IM SCARED OF DRAMA SCHOOL
I'm 20% sure that if that happened 2 me I would've *died* of embarrassment
Scaring myself right before an audition tomorrow by watching this haha

Mia Vogelsong Thank you so much!
Kiana Goetze how'd it go?
Heather McNamara I think it went pretty well. One of my best yet!
