    can you fit a full size gaming PC inside a suitcase? sure you can!
    This old Milwaukee toolbox is an excellent choice for a portable gaming pc.
    it can fit a full size (full height) video card, a standard PSU and even a keyboard and mouse!
    the tricky thing is to have good airflow and low temps. I put 2 case fans (120mm) - one for intake and another for exhaust, so there is good air circulation inside the case.
    The PSU draws air from outside and throws it outside as well.
    I used a low profile CPU cooler, which does an excellent job.
    the video card needed extra support, so I cut out a support bracket from the old pc case. the height fits just inside the suitcase.
    I also used the old front panel connectors, and large power/reset buttons :)
    The paint is some kind of LOL camo pattern, but I like it.
    I tested it with heavy gaming (it's an old pc) and the temps look good!
    I hope you enjoy this build and maybe get some inspiration for building your own portable PC or a suitcase mod :)

    I work offshore as a paramedic and have been able to fill a closet with various sized pelican cases for free. If you were able to do this with a really shitty old toolbox like that then I have to try it myself. I think I'll include a small mobile flat screen monitor. Amazing job with very minimal resources to work with. Color me impressed!

    • @MrGreenMakesStuff
      @MrGreenMakesStuff  4 роки тому +2

      thank you so much! I did want to add a monitor at first (and most people watching this video comment on that), but honestly, any monitor would likely be small and uncomfortable to work with. I usually take it (at least used to before COVID) to places where there's already a large monitor in place, so it made more sense to me this way.
      I wish I had access to pelican cases :). thanks again for watching and for being awesome as a paramedic!

    Hella unique idea! Nowadays, SFF(small form factor) Power suppliers are gaining popularity- half the size of normal PSU, usually fully modular & almost always Gold 80+ - to regain space from cables ;)

      @@MrGreenMakesStuff if you can make say, a titanium mold like that, for example, with a metallic base for the mobo, and make list of up current parts that would fit in this case, I'm certain people will be throwing money at you. At the very least major companies may want to hire you to make these. You never know unless you get the exposure. Also, patent your idea. You don't want somebody copying you, and then be left hating yourself and unable to either prove it was your idea, or not be allowed to make these because of some bullshit court case.

    Great video. Building a computer in a case that is made for it is easy. Building a case for a computer that is not made for it and you have to modify everything, not easy at all. That takes a skill I wish I could have. So what! You used a plastic case and hot glued your HDMI cable in place. It looked clean, it worked and that's all that matters. So instead of people complaining about all the things you did wrong they need to realize everything you did correctly and if they think they can do better then they should go do one themselves and video the results (But never fear, they will not, it's easier just to nitpick) the users that have given you praise for this I say kudos to them and kudos to you for the awesome build and on the camo paint job. 👍👍👍👍👍

    Currently taking a swing at this rn. Mine has 2 more conditions. Built in fold out triple monitors, IE one solid one and one that hinges off of each side of that. Similar the the one DIY Perks Built. Also, just for fun I want to retain as much waterproofing as possible. In other words once it's closed up for storage.. it's sealed. Still early stages, but keeping everything (IO and such) on the inside is definitely challenging. I may just come up with an outer panel compartment that has it's own sealed door. Sorta like outdoor power outlets. I used a slightly bigger and beefier case. A hard gun case.

    Nice idea , but it will be better if you add metal carass to it, when you touched the cover of the case it kinda 'bends' cuz its made out of plastic , and its a problem

    • @MrGreenMakesStuff
      @MrGreenMakesStuff  5 років тому +10

      that's right. the case is designed to be very rigid, but when I cut out all the internal plastics it became flexible and bendy. the wood tray helps a little, but still not as good as a metal case. I had to make do with what I had at hand.. thanks for watching!

    This is a fab job a tie up with pelican would make a great kick starter. I would only have one suggestion for what i would consider an improvement that is a horizontal gpu mount using a ribbon cable this will take the weight/acceleration off the motherboard during shipping.

    • @MrGreenMakesStuff
      @MrGreenMakesStuff  5 років тому +1

      Thank you! I did consider a horizontal gpu riser, but for space/cooling reasons. In the end I didn't need it, also, it would require more support brackets that I was too lazy to make :) The support bracket I used takes most of the weight off the mb, so it's fine this way. Still, I want to experiment with a gpu ribbon in the future! Thanks for watching :)

  • @Marsk1tty
    @Marsk1tty 5 років тому +3

    Looks awesome. If I were to recreate this I would probably use a pcie riser cable for the gpu and have all of the outputs on the back of the case instead of using an hdmi extension cable. Also fitting a screen in there would be awesome but then you have to deal with stuff like power delivery. Overall a really cool build.

    • @MrGreenMakesStuff
      @MrGreenMakesStuff  5 років тому +1

      Thank you so much for the compliments! At first I thought of a pcie riser but it would make mounting the gpu more challenging. In the end it just fit inside the case and the extra bracket is really solid. I didn't want all the outputs in the back because I wanted the case to be able to stand up. And I didn't need all the outputs, maybe a couple more USBs... The monitor was low priority so I ditched it because I was lazy, and also because I was going to hook the case to existing monitors. Power delivery isn't a big deal because most monitors use 12v and less than 1000ma if I'm not mistaking, so I could draw power from the PSU. Thanks again for watching!

    I have 2 questions tho
    How are the thermals of this system and are they affected by long term use ?
    And how intact are the components and how well can they handle rough usage ?

    • @MrGreenMakesStuff
      @MrGreenMakesStuff  5 років тому +2

      thanks!
      regarding temps: I answered that in previous comments. in short: airflow is pretty good (the 2 fans are intake+exhaust, PSU fan blows air out), so temps are relatively OK (around 40c idle and 75c in heavy gaming). I had a 4 hour gaming session with it and it became noticeably hot but worked 100% and didn't throttle, the fans went very high and noisy (I'll have to replace them).
      regarding the rough usage: I usually don't bang the case around, just like any other PC. it's more of show piece than a rugged case :) so I'm trying to be gentle when carrying and putting it down. it feels a little bit on the "flexible" side, but still sturdy enough for carrying around in my car and to friends' houses. I hope that answered your question ;)

      Hi, there's plenty of exhaust and no heat recycling. I'll explain:
      The case fan right above the cpu is intake, the other one is exhaust. When the case is standing up, airflow is kinda from bottom(intake) to top (exhaust), which is a good thing. Also, the PSU fan blows the air outside the case so it doesn't contribute to heat. All in all, in heavy gaming the gpu is around 75c and cpu around 60c. hope it explains why heat/airflow is not an issue. cheers and thanks for watching!
