When a worker manufactured this can (probably nearly 100 years ago), little did he or she know that it would be opened and consumed in the year 2024, watched by thousands on UA-cam 😂
Back then they didn't put expiry dates on food but rather production dates. So 12/30 actually means this product was produced in December of 1930. Yes, it's 96 years old!
@@redpine8665 I believe babies already consume a lot of sugar through breast milk, I heard this from my biology teacher a university but I can't really find anything on the internet about it so I'm not sure
In a strange way, it should be considered unsafe or unhealthy due to the sheer age of it. But it is likely more healthy to down a glass of well-preserved mix like that than, say, a Red Bull or even a sugary fruit juice "drink"! Everything today is all just chemicals, chemicals, chemicals.
I could watch your videos all day. I absolutely love how you always say, "we" instead of "I" because I feel like I am part of the experiment. Nice work!
OK, you made me do some research on Maltose. The color of maltose is that same light brown you are seeing when you mixed it with water. It's a disaccharide of 2 molecule of glucose. Sucrose (normal sugar) is glucose + fructose and Lactose is glucose + Galactose. Maltose can be made from wheat or barley amongst many other things, so, that might explain the mini-wheats smell. Thanks for the post, interesting edible antique.
I love that you get excited about cans with a key! It would be interesting to see how many companies still make them. This one looks great at the end with the lid staying on neatly.
Back of can, To Dissolve: It is best dissolved by "gradually" stirring it into the hot fluid. One cup of powder, PLOP, HAHAHA. The front shows One ounce supplies so much daily requirements. If I remember correctly this was used as like a supplement in the formula, so only about a tablespoon was used in a bottle. Great job my friend, love the videos.
That's one of the nicest can designs i've seen. We should definitely go back to simple designs, rather than colorful labels that all try to clickbait you into buying it.

Next time drink it from a 1930s baby bottle. I remember your baby food episode. I mixed up the dry baby food to fed to my baby alive as a child. It doesn't have mixing directions because your dr would have written you a "prescription "on how much dry to liquid to use. Your dr would have told you weather you are to use milk or water. Modern baby formula you would use 1oz power to 2oz water . So an 8oz bottle would have 4 scoops powder.
Post, Loved the video! The best part was seeing it was from my home state. Evansville is about as SW as you can get in Indiana. The company is still in business. You should have just put the mugs in the refrigerator to save them for later. Great to see the cat shirt again. We got the bonus of seeing you clean the toilet and your bare feet.😂 Any snow at your place? It is 72 here in my part of Indiana.
To show how my brain works, someone in the comments said the company is still around. I'd try and get in touch with them, show them the video, ask what they think about it, if they still know exactly what ingredients they used at the time, if any of them are still used or can be used today, and just how nutritious this formula is. You know try and get a bit of history on it and how much things have changed since then.

It's funny to me that you happened to upload this video now and you have all those big googly eyes all over your stuff. I'm currently working on a real life version of the B movie song from the Brave Little Toaster, (the part where all the appliances get taken to the chop shop where all the other appliances are singing about how it's like a horror movie.) LOL I love the shirt today. My grandma was born in 1934 and her idea of what baby formula should be like was pure bullsh*t. Like little to NO nutritional value! Like basically hummingbird food! She was serious too!!
With very large families it was sometimes impossible to care for all of the children -- my Grandmother had 8 -- so if some of them did not survive infancy it was a tragedy but not unusual. Parents were just being pragmatic about allocating limited resources.

I can understand why it is so sweet. It is 98% maltose and dextrose.... They are both types of sugar.
I was thinking the same thing. I'm not sure how nutritious it would have been for a baby - it's all sugar!

Not Maltose and certainly not Dextrose, but Maltodextrin. These are also complex sugars so it's unlikely that they cause any rushes.
