These are Angelina's lyrics. Her mother saw the original Amy Winehouse lyrics and told her she was not going to sing those. Angelina had about 24 hours to completely rewrite the lyrics before the recording session. Not only are her lyrics impressive on their own but they fit the original music so well that no changes had to be done to the music score for the orchestra.
Josh, these are not the lyrics for for Amy's Back to Black. The day before Angelina was scheduled to record this with the KORK Orchestra, her Mom read the "adult" lyrics about sex, drugs & a bad relationship & told her if she wanted to sing this song she would have to re-write the lyrics. She wrote these lyrics in less than 24 hours & they fit perfectly in the melody so the orchestra didn't have to change anything to fit the new lyrics. She walked into the studio, kicked off her sneakers & sang the song twice (since she didn't like the 1st take). She posted this raw video the next day with no post production. These lyrics about "love" are not official from her, they are what some fans believe she sang, but there is some debate about a few parts. This really shows what a genius songwriter she is.

You just read Angelina's lyrics, she rewrote this the original lyrics aren't age appropriate and her mom said rewrite or don't do it. amazing 24 hrs later she had this version
Recommendation: Simply do not rush through the years. You will regret it. No need to get to the current day quickly. Once you are there, you will wish that you had her younger years, but you will have ruined your synthesis of them by rushing to get to a goal you don't need to get.

Thank you for coming back. I always enjoyed your reactions. Angelina edited the lyrics to make them more age appropriate. Besides having the innate talent she was born with, Angelina was born into a family that quite clearly knew the meaning of love, and who practiced that love on all, but most especially on their children; and this is where Angelina is coming from when she's on stage and singing. It shows in everything she does. It's why we love her so much. And for me, she is beyond very special.
I think maybe she hears and sees the music “pre-recorded” in her head and has an idactic memory for all the music she has ever been exposed to. Someone in that family was a singer, that mic when she was 1 1/2 years old was in that house for a reason, and it wasn’t because Sara thought her infant daughter was all of a sudden gonna start singing in her bed. lol!

Amy's lyrics to this song are much sadder than Angelina's - almost depressing. On the other hand, when Angelina describes love problems, there is always a way out in a positive direction (think back to this when you get to the EP Old Enough). All of Angelina's lyrics have a deeper meaning, no matter which "era" of her oeuvre they come from - which is sometimes harder to convey to the audience than the usual la-la-la.
When it comes to her musical abilities and all the tools that one shouldn't master until much later, you're absolutely right, there aren't many of her age peers who even come close to that. Breath control is one of those things that's just unbelievable considering her age.
2016 was indeed an outstanding year - usually TV contest winners disappear after a few months, unlike that - what Angelina did that year is just amazing and we are blessed that most of it is documented (although it's the same for 2017 and 2018 and without a doubt we would be in a very different place now if it hadn't been for the COVID "break").
It is true that she seems to have been born for it and has been gifted by nature with some predispositions for it, but the deeper understanding and knowledge you mentioned does not come without her own effort.
Even though this is one of the most viewed videos, many are of the opinion that it's not really the best of this year - you've already seen three other highlights, but there's a lot that one can/must still recommend. It would be a VERY shame if that was all we got to see from you this year. At least "Summertime with KORK", Sing me to sleep & faded from Alan Wlaker's homecoming concert and maybe also "Here comes the sun" and "Autumn leaves". “You raise me up” is also interesting, but for different reasons. I also particularly like "White Christmas" in a duet with ESC winner Alexander Rybak (unfortunately a Christmas song...).
And remember - 2020 (14yo) was a lost year, there is next to nothing and very little from 2021.
Fun fact: when I look up Angelina's lyrics on the internet, it says "Song by Angelina Jordan" and in the credits "Songwriter: Amy Winehouse / Mark Ronson" ;-) .
More than being depressing, Amy’s original lyrics had sex and drug references that more than anything made them inappropriate for a 10 year old.
Yes 2020 was kind of a lost year because of Covid. However Angelina did release her amazing original Million Miles.
She actually did release quite a bit in 2015. Covers of Easy On Me, All I Ask, Mercy, Yesterday, Heal The World and Billie Jean as well as another great original 7th Heaven.

Josh, I always enjoy your reaction and analysis to Angelina Jordan. For a 10 year old to write new lyrics within 24 hours of the recording session and then only need a couple takes to complete the video, is mind-blowing. I highly suggest reacting to "I'm Still Holding Out for You" which is a demo Angelina recorded one week before her 11th birthday. Many angels say, it is one of her all time best vocal performances.

It is impossible to chose the best Angelina Jordan performances because they are all great - but two 11-year-old live concert performances you might like are Lovin' You and Diamonds Are Forever (go with the ones from Kaleidoscope RMX - remastered sound).

I was really hoping that you would compare the lyrics to each other or at least read them as Angelina was singing. AJ’s lyrics are COMPLETELY different. To be able to write and perfectly fit them to the original music in such a short period of time is nothing short of genius.

Josh, I really enjoy your thoughtful analysis of the lyrics, the musicality, and the technique of each performance. My feeling is for you not to worry to much about following Angelina's career chronologically. That is unless you want to. The spoiler alert is that she has continued, until the present, to grow as a artist and a human being. Today she is working with some of the best people in the music business but always remains uniquely her own person. And believe me she always continues to surprise you with each new song and performance. But going back to her younger years never gets old either and offers just as many surprises as well. At this point my favorite performance from Angelina is usually the last thing that I've listened to, no matter what the age. But it is very exciting as well watching her step onto the world stage at events both large and small. ❤

One song she did at 11 is the studio recording/rehearsal for "I'm A Fool To Want you" (Billy Holiday) which she is recording for her Album "it's Magic" There are two versions, one with the actual band music playing, the other is the "raw" recording without the band track playing...that is the one to get an insight to her musical brilliance. She was older for "It's Magic." it was recorded in Nov 2017 when she was 11y 10m, & wasn't released until June 2018 when she was 12y 6m. The following day was the outdoor concert with the Norway Military Band the fortunately was recorded by Boris Palinovski.

Lovin' You and Ain't No Sunshine mashup get my vote for 11 years old! I always thought It's a Man's World was 12 years, if 11 is correct, then you absolutely need to react to that one. It’s funny you spent 6 minutes reviewing lyrics that were not used for this song, since Angelina rewrote the lyrics to make them more age appropriate, but it should point to the genius of Angelina’s artistry that she can rewrite a song and have the same feel as the original.

I'm disappointed that you didn't use a better version of Angelina's lyrics for this song. (I'm almost certain I warned you about this and gave you a better version under one of your other reactions to her.) The lyrics you used here ultimately come from a certain lyrics website that, despite being ostensibly "crowd sourced", apparently will never, ever change their version of the lyrics, despite the fact that they contain many very obvious errors. Sigh…
Since it's been so long since I did this, I'll go ahead and repost the version of the lyrics that's as close as I can get to what she actually sings. I used the lyrics you found as a starting point and changed them as necessary based on what I heard (and saw) her singing in this video, cross-referenced with the first take from this same recording session which they (mostly?) didn't end up using, and the first 3 times she sang it live (which were all at least somewhat different). The lines I am still unsure about are marked with an asterisk.
