It’s our smallest ever SUV, but the forthcoming, all-electric Volvo EX30 is big on safety, thanks to our 96 years of leadership and innovation in this area. We’re a leader in safety, always have been and always will be, and we will not lower our own bar for safety in the EX30 - it looks after both you and others in hectic urban environments.
For example, on busy city roads a car door opening inadvertently into the path of a cyclist is responsible for a significant number of cycling crashes. So-called dooring accidents make up as much as a fifth of all reported bike accidents in some cities, and according to Cycling UK, 60 people on average are killed or seriously injured by car doors each year in the UK alone.
To help reduce such incidents, our forthcoming Volvo EX30 is equipped with a door opening alert, which can warn you through visual and audio cues whenever you’re about to open the door in front of a passing cyclist or other traffic user.
The door opening alert is one of several features of our Safe Space Technology on the fully electric Volvo EX30 that illustrate how we’ve applied our high safety standards to our new small SUV. It’s designed to be city-safe with technology specifically aimed at protecting people in busy urban environments.
“We have long had a focus on safety in city environments where cars share space with pedestrians and cyclists,” said Åsa Haglund, the head of our Safety Centre. “With the Volvo EX30 we are taking city safety to the next level, creating a small SUV that is your perfect companion for a comfortable driving experience, while it looks after you and other people on the busy streets of modern cities.”
State-of-the-art protective safety
As the smallest ever SUV from Volvo Cars, the new EX30 is as safe as you’d expect from a Volvo car. Founded in our unique safety knowledge and research from real-world accidents, the EX30 is designed to help protect its driver and passengers in the event of a crash. It does so through state-of-the-art restraint technology, as well as top-notch structural design that fulfills our ambitious in-house safety requirements - designed to prepare our cars for various real-world scenarios.
Protecting people inside the car in case of a crash has always been a top priority for us. The structural design of the EX30 reflects our commitment via strengthening of the safety cage, the A, B and C pillars, as well as the roof.
Inside the EX30, a new advanced driver alert system comes as standard and looks out for you when you’re not at your best. In addition to the hands-on detection in the steering wheel, the car also has a special sensor, running on powerful algorithms and located behind the steering wheel, that detects eye and face movements around 13 times per second. This way, the EX30 can try to understand if you’re distracted, drowsy or otherwise inattentive, even if you might not have realised it yourself.
In short, as with any Volvo car, the new EX30 is equipped with a broad suite of active safety and driver support systems. We’ll share more details on all the safety and driver support tech inside the EX30 at reveal.

Phenomenal overview, one of the most complete I've seen in UA-cam. You're very engaging, as well. Thank you for your work!
Thank you very much for feedback 🙏🙏
Amazing !!! ❤
I’ve watched a bunch of EX30 overviews. This is the best so far. I appreciate the infotainment overview.
Glad it was helpful!🙏😁 I had only 1 hour with car … i had to be fast ….
I don’t trust any of you UA-cam reviewers since watching what the car manufacturers give you in return for good reviews but this one was a good in depth literal look at the car.
I have never received money from a car manufacturer or dealer until today. Also i never have access to new cars presentations because the house youtubers have priority 😪 this time i was lucky to be in the right place and also i meet some nice people that alow me 1 hour with car
People swear having every function and piece of information displayed on one single tablet isn't a big deal, but it makes me nervous. What's wrong with buttons? Form is great, as long as it doesn't interfere with Function.
Agreed. I don't want to have to mess with a screen when I'm driving and need immediate access to something like the defroster. I like buttons I can feel and push with just barely having to look at them.
@@Cheryl444b even touch buttons are better than a screen.
I agree that there should be some physical tactile buttons for regularly used functions. Just as importantly, in the absence of a binnacle in front of the driver to display speed, speed limit and navigation instructions, there should be a head up display. It is far too distracting to have to move your eyes to the centre screen to monitor your speed.
YES!!@@richardpiper4828
@@richardpiper4828 totally agree with hud. It would make such a difference to the driver experience. How much can a hud possibly cost?
Great review on one of the most competitive, great looking, fully electric SUVs in this price range. Volvo are clearly heading for big sales with this model.
I am curious to see on the test drive how those fancy side mirrors will reflect the high summer sun, because I drove a vehicle with similar mirrors and yes, that look great but I found the sun in my eyes was very distractive.
Furthermore I hope for the final model to be able to specify (as an option) a heads up display, because in a country like mine with so many speed cameras everywhere this is a must for me.
Good points Tony 👍i think they have time to improve those things
This is actually the best review I heard for the EX 30. I have it on pre-order already. I really enjoyed your excitement and presentation of this car!
Do you like the cloud blue? Better than white? Not really sure what it will look like in person.
Thank you for such a great video
Udhdhshsh
I liked your video very much. Also your enthusiasm. Great quality and you had a lot more attention in details👏🏻 Keep up the good work!
Thanks Andre 🙏🤗really appreciate your feedback
Thank you so much for this honest review! By any chance, did you see the Indigo interior?
Unfortunately no 😪 Thanks for feedback 🙏
I have watched many reviews of this car and you still pointed out a lot of new things. Good job
Thanks Miles 🙏 i always try to show in details all the cars that people learn something from my videos 😁Alot of work but iam satisfied if people find it useful
This has to be the best presentation so far on UA-cam!
Thanks for feedback 🙏🤗really appreciate
Thank you for this hard to find detailed review on this new prepro ev. This answered so many questions!
Thanks Tina for feedback 🙏
The car looks good but the interior feels so empty and the quality of materials for the dashboard and inner doors is terrible… I've never seen a car with such dull horrendous plastics that look like a large public waste container. You may argue that the goal is to sell the car at a low price point, but this car isn't cheap really, it's just the cheapest among Volvo models because it is the smallest. And above all, look at the gorgeous interior of its cousin (same platform, same segment, same price point) the Zeekr X. Look at the quality of soft materials,, the metal inserts, the electric central armrest and all the clever storage compartments with sliding shutters… I think the side by side comparison will put the EX30 to the ultimate shame. Too bad really because the exterior of the Volvo is better designed :(
Search for example on UA-cam "Is the Zeekr X the better Volvo EX30 ?"
Thanks for feedback 👍🙏
I like the EX30 but it falls out of my buying schedule as I would like a speedometer behind the steering wheel - its corporate sibling Zeekr X has this making it my favorite in the line-up.
Thanks for feedback 🙏
Great video but one remark I want to add. You keep saying it's just a pre-production car and the production car will get this and this. For your info pre-production cars are built to prepare production. They are exactly the same only built in small series for different tests, parts and assembly processes validation - prototype builds, tooling tryout, quality check on assembly line - TT, PP builds and so on up to JOB1 when the quality is good enough and the cars get Okay To Sell.
Differences usualy come with model year changes done every year or so.
Thanks for feedback 👍🙏Make sense but iam sure they still can add some features on different versions
Really would love a heads up display on the premium versions. I'm loving it otherwise.
They have time to improve still 👍
You forget 2 important concern:1, 4 hand holders by near the head ( people to hold on ), 2, the HUD (especially at night drive for safety). Thanks!
Thanks for feedback 👍
Super demonstration -we ordered ours- Benevolence for these times- good - blue - democracy- Finally practical and beautiful - wow - sublime- for practical dad and space-out mom.
Thanks for feedback 🙏
Great review....also you should make an ASMR youtube channel... this car review was actually relaxing. Great voice tone.
Thanks 🙏 really appreciate your feedback
This design is beautiful...the size of this SUV reminds me of the Toyota Corolla Cross. Volvo always makes good design choices.
Hi, Thanks great review. Can you option up a Heads Up Display please? I personally don’t like the display being to the side.
Gary iam not sure i didn’t ask sadly 😪
Brilliant Review, I wish I could buy the car tomorrow.
Thanks 🙏 really appreciate your feedback
I’m really interested in this car but delivery would be April 24… too late for me… Excellent review btw 😊
Thanks for feedback my friend 🙏
Where are you located? We are seeing delivery in "Summer 2024" at the earliest in the US. This is WAYYY too late
@@drewpekarek5794 Switzerland, it now says May 2024…
Great video, shows a lot of the car features. Thanks for taking the time to make it
Thanks for feedback as well 🙏👍
Do you know if this vehicle will offer hands-free driving like all the latest EVs? It seems like it has radar and a ton of cameras/sensors. I'd love some information on this as I can't find it readily available. Thanks and great video!
Yea it will come also with Autopilot and will be the latest from Volvo
@@SDADanCars thank you! And this will be available as standard or only on certain trims?
This car is amazing and the pricing is just right!
Yes 👍
What about brakes? Any ceramic options available? Corroding brake disks on EVs from not being used that much is a recurring problem here and have to be replaced often. Would really like to see some kind of corrosion protective housing. Also, can the skyview be opened or are there options for this? AC tends to use power you may not want to use, and having windows open in traffic have this annoying buffeting sound that is eliminated/reduced with an openable roof.
Not sure 🤔 i need to ask
Great review, looks like.a good car but it’s absolutely crying out for a HUD. Volvo need to add this before releasing, maybe in an Ultra+ spec. Also, no rear air on vents is disappointing.
Thanks for feedback 👍🙏
One of the best (p)reviews out there, thank you!!
Glad you liked it! 🙏Thanks for feedback
Thank you for the video, does the car have back AC vents ?
From what i remember yes 👍
The rear vents are under the front seats (so you can’t adjust them)
@@jstaggie Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for the great review. I appreciate the design of the EX30, but I’m very much frustrated with the available colors (exterior and even more interior). These colors look to me just old fashioned. Especially the “Nordic night sky” pattern. That just looks like a cheap floor finishing of some 50 to 70 years ago. Is this really attractive to the majority? Please let me know your thoughts.
Thanks for feedback 👍 i think in reality look better then on video. But you have to see it yourself
Ordered one today. Best review yet
Thanks 🙏
Thanks for the review. Do you recall if the driver seat position may be saved and recalled for multiple drivers?
Did they mention whether the EX30 has a tow hitch (option) for use with a bicycle carrier?
Not sure about the seat save position…. I think will have a hitch but can’t remember exactly
28:48
beautiful filmed! love this car 🙏
Thanks 🙏
nice car I will buy it if I can have a heads up display and a heated steering wheel
Let’s hope they will add
It is interesting that EX30 is already orderable in Europe yet they still don't allow you to do a complete review including driving (?)
Not sure what to say ….
I ordered mine here in Denmark and Volvo told me they'll let me test drive it in Jan and cancel the order with no charge if I don't like it at that time!
@@SDADanCars , did you sign a NDA saying you won't say anything bad about the ex30?
Thanks for the review. I think I'm one of the few people that really dislikes big wheels and low-profile tires...they cut down on efficiency, are more expensive to replace, and if you have a spouse that is magnetically attracted to curbs, there's less protection.
Hehe 😁True!
So many inovative solutions in a neat designed package+usable range.. love it. ❤
Yes 👍
You mean cost cutting.
Great detailed review, lovely car..my only concern is the size of it. Also...just a though, where are the window switches?
They’re on the centre console near the top. There are only two switches, with a button to toggle them to operate the rear windows.
They are on centre console same type as ID.3. They are very practical
What’s in the storage area between the “frunk” and the windshield? There’s a small rectangular lid.
I think that area is not ready yet and they will still work on it. It is not a final product
It's a great car at a reasonable price. Have you seen in any menu if there is any eco driving mode other than the one pedal?
I cant remember exactly i had just 1 hour with car and i need to move fast
Not sure if it would be helpful or not, but on my XC-40 Recharge there is a battery saving mode you can turn on that kind of de-prioritizes the climate system and seems to lower the overall acceleration/power. I can’t recall the exact name of it, but I’ve noticed it probably gives me an extra 20-30 miles of range when it’s being used, give or take. Whether that’s on this car or not, I couldn’t say. I’m in the US, if that matters.
most beatiful car of the year
True Peter 👍
The rear indicators are too small !! The other lights are ok.
Nice car !!
strong and fast cars like this will process the transition to electric cars. not cute and slow cars, like others. This car screams: look, electric cars are better! Thats the right way to do it!
👍
For this review, was it only the Cloud Blue? Or did you also show the Vapour Grey? At times on the video, the car looked grey. It might just be the lighting.
It is just the light 👍
Best review yet, absolutely love this car!
Thanks 🙏
Watching from Thailand how cool is it big thanks for absolutely review.🙏🇹🇭🇸🇪🇨🇭
Thanks 🙏
Prachtig Volvo ontwerp, mooie auto!! Jammer dat deze in China wordt gefabriceerd, denk aan het milieu want deze Volvo moet duizenden kilometers reizen om in Europa te komen per trein of zeer vervuilende schepen. Ook een gemiste kans voor onze Europese werkgelegenheid.
Black roof is a great idea for Norway and Sweden ,not quite good for rest of the Europe because of amount of Sunlight and heat .
Thanks for a really good review. 👍
Thanks Jon 🙏
I love it ❤, the front reminds me a snow fox , this car could a sucessor for my v60 , maybe .....
Yes 👍
So do I have to look at the center screen to see my speed?
Yes, needs a hud
I think Volvo needs to take a serious look at the 2024 Audi Q4 ETron all electric. It has a dash in front of the driver along with heads up display. I will not buy anything that has all the controls on a iPad located in the center of the dash with no information displayed in front of the driver. Also it appears the Audi Q4 ETron also has a nicer appointed interior.
👍Thanks for feedback
Outstanding review! 😀Good details. 😀 I will know more about this car when I (probably) buy it than I do about my current car. For a pre-production preview, this is fantastic! When you do the full review, I would like to know a bit more about that roof. It definitely looks cool. Does it keep heat out in hot weather? Also, I see that the subscription for the apps is free for four years. How much does it cost for the most basic apps (pre-conditioning from phone, battery status) after four years? Any chance you can get a 183 cm person to sit in the back seat so that I know how my son and friends will fit? Thank you so much for all of this information!!
Thanks Laura for feedback 🙏Regarding the App price we dont know yet nothing but probably around 10$ a month. Space in the back should be fine for 183cm and as soon as i get the car i will do an in depth review with all functions 👍😁
Hello. congratulations for the detailed review. Is there ambient lighting on the back doors as well?
Catalin is don’t remember exactly but on 17 i will go test drive it and i will give you more details
The same company are making Zeekr 001 with 140kWh battery , I want to see Volvo EX30 with at least 90kWh battery
👍
0:53 I find this car really attractive. Well done Volvo!
👍
Extremely thorough review of a preproduction car. Well done! The submarining floor of the trunk was a welcomed surprise if it adds significant volume. The only negative points for me are minor: The window buttons in the center of the vehicle is unintuitive, and the speckled material on the doors and dash is visually too bold. Reads more like a motif than a texture. The Volvo product images of the EX30 deemphasize the speckle appearance with the use of more dramatic lighting/shadows, but in your video I found it too forward. Many thanks!
I ordered my EX30 with gray/wool interior, which does not have this speckled material on the consol
I love it, as somone whos been driving a fellow swede (SAAB 9.5) is well used to having the window buttons in the center and for me it fells off when they are in the door
Ah yes! I owned two Saabs back in the day, but I forgot about the window controls.
Thanks for the walkaround, I was almost decided to for the MG4 LFP, but I might have a good offer for the Volvo, being aprox just 2000€ more than the MG4. My biggest concern is the rear space of the swedish...how does it compare with the MG4?
Thanks!
Thanks for feedback 🙏 As soon as i get more time with car i will measure the trunk space. But for the size of the car is fine.
@@SDADanCars I meant the rear seats space 🙂
No V2X - missed opportunity - shame as I have been waiting for the ‘affordable’ Volvo. No V2L - I cross it off my list.
😪
Awesome review...thank you very much
Thanks Gabriel for feedback 🙏
Damn. Gotta get one! Perfect size. Love the exterior and interior design. Performance on point. And at this price! :O
Thanks for feedback 🙏
Early 90s my mom painted the walls dipping a tooth brush into paint and flicking at the wall producing the same design 😂
This car is gorgeous! I hope it comes in red (if not I’ll just get plain white :)
It will come in 5 colors !
Thanks!
Thanks also 🙏🤗Really appreciate!!
color looks gorgeous!
Yes is super nice 👌
Hi! You are the exact same height as me. 173 cm. When you fold down the rear seats in the video, and lay them flat. How do you fit inside? Would you be able to go car camping in the EX30, like a Model Y? Or is it too short do you reckon? Great video! really comprehensive, thanks a lot!
I think you can manage to camp but with less space then Y … i can’t remember exactly
Cargo length from the first seatback to the tailgate is 147.1 cm according to the spec sheet
@@jacobeiland82 Thanks that's good to know.. That means its a bit short then.
Excellent review
Thanks for feedback 👍🙏
Love it!
I think I'd rather use my frunk for something else if that mobile charger can go under the trunk floor too. Noticed there was another bag there along with the first aid kit. Tire repair kit mayhaps?
Yes 👍
I see you had good egress and ingress to the cabin and you are 5'8" tall. I am 5-10 and have a long torso. (short legs). I've been searching for any review actually showing someone taller getting into the car. I have to fold myself up to get into my wife's Tucson so I'm wondering how bad this car would be.
Thanks for your informative review.
Thanks for feedback 🙏 Hard to say …. I also have shorter legs and taller upper body 😁But iam not very tall
The media system is too small and the position is not ergonomical.
The typography of the screen is not big enough. It reqires too much attention.
Thanks for feedback 🙏
I'm curious about the stereo sound as those are small speakers with possibly no woofer for bass.
We will test it in future 👍
It does a have sub woofer built into that sound bar
Will there be an option or something aftermarket from Volvo to mount a driver display / dash?
We dont know yet but for sure aftermarket will be. It is not the final product and maybe they will change something
I hope the performance would have the 125mph (200km/h) limit, and the single motor would be the 112mph (180km/h) as the top speed.
Let’s hope so 👍
Great video!
Thanks 🙏
Still cramped in the back. An inch more leg space wd have made a big difference
👍
I can confirm,
The headlights are super useful in night time 😅
😁😂
Yeah ..very useful to know:))))
every driver wants a driver console display in front of him
😪Maybe they will make one after all the feedbacks
@@SDADanCars yes please. This needs a driver console or even better a hud. A hud would transform the car in terms of driver convenience and safety.
Voir le futur Ex30 Volvo hybrid ethanol merci d'avance
I think no
Please remember that the sound of the doors has been designed. All car doors sound almost the same, but the manufacturers changes the sound to create an image of quality :-).
👍
Thanks for the perfect review as always 👍
Thanks also for feedback 🙏
Are the Volvo dealers also going to supply the Zeckr X?
Not sure j will ask 👍👍
It will depend on where in the world you mean, only Sweden and The Netherlands will get it btw.
20" wheels nice, but they don't look very nice, i know they are aero dynamic, but i would prefer some nice alloys
You can change the easy after
Would a washing machine fit inside? With rear seats folded it probably would, but is the back door wide/tall enough?
I think yes Dale 👍 Can’t remember exactly
Great review! Thanks a lot
Thanks also 🙏
I wasn’t able to watch the video with audio, so pardon if you mentioned it before, but how tall are you?
1,73cm 👍
Looks beautiful.
Yes is great 👍
Thanks for the review. Geely mother company is smart selling low-cost platform into a trusted-brand like Volvo! Sneaky way how Chinese ev companies can enter US/CAD market.
👍
It might look better with a satin color (for example black).🤔
👍😁
this car will fit for me ?
i have 4 adult(tall around 160-170 cm) and 1 child(1 years old) for travel around city but for daily use and long trip will be 2 adult and 1 child
Of course yes.
so ? go ahead and buy it ,, why we tell us ??
Will be fine 👍
@@SDADanCars for the volvo price you can buy 2 Geely , same car exactly , brainwashing
When can you drife it? First in 2024!?
Yes 😁
Apsolutno fantastic dizajn, but air bag need to be closer to the dasch board, now sticking to much towards driver...!!!
Nice car!❤
Are there speakers in the rear doors?
I can’t remember but will come soon another review
I wil buy of course marvelous

@@andremiedema2093 you are a gentleman, thank you so much🫠
Volvo is supposed to be all about safety, with the EX30 they have thrown all that out the window. No HUD is my major gripe, if you want to follow navigation instructions or check your speed you have to look sideways, how safe is that Volvo??? It's one of the primary reasons why I will never buy a Tesla 3 or Y.
The level of cost cutting in that cabin is ridiculous.
