CJ Garcia I'll tell you the only difference. Those guys have got agents. This song here is better than Bridge Over Troubled Water. But people aren't going to know that. It all comes down to who's your agent. Do you think Springsteen would be where he is, if he didn't have a good agent? I'm telling you.
Watched Ishtar for the first time a few weeks ago ahead of the Blank Check podcast's miniseries about Elaine May's filmography. This song has been stuck in my head since then. It absolutely slaps. A banger and a hugely underrated and wonderful movie
She got such a bum deal over this film. A generally unknown comedy legend. I recommend Nichols & May recordings from the late 50's and early 60's. The duo worked together again later on The Birdcage.
I understand that critics panned it because its production cost was too expensive for a comedy , but it had me laughing so hard I was in tears. Absolutely love this song.
I am soooo glad I stumbled across this. I thought me, my wife, and her sister were the only 3 people in the world who got this movie. I've been a professional musician for over 50 years, and when I saw this movie I was flabbergasted by how close it hit to home. And the song, the songs. Just genius. Btw, you can find the entire script on line.
Telling the truth can be dangerous business. Honest and popular don't go hand in hand. If you admit that you can play the accordion, No one'll hire you in a rock 'n' roll band. I've loved this movie ever since it came out. It's really a shame that it was branded such a flop as I think it kept people from seeing it. It's absolutely hilarious and the songs SUCK SO GOOD!
This movie absolutely does not deserve its bad reputation. It's not a masterpiece but critics are wrong to denigrate it; these songs are hilariously bad.
I think we've had it. For the last few years she's all I hear about. Everyone's made what seems like a coordinated effort (or they're jumping on the same bandwagon) but it hasn't gained any traction outside of the mid-low-sophisticated end of the film community.
The ending of this movie foreshadowed its flop. The one were thier record were on sale at closeout prices and the end. Don't get me wrong, I thought it was a really good movie and I really like it.
Rogers and Clarke have to be one of the most underrated duos. I believe they are on par with Simon and Garfunkel
Springsteen was trying to steal their songs
Did the CIA pay you to say that?

This is a hilarious looked over and forgotten Gem. I still love it to this day.
Classic. Epic lyrics and the synth slaps. Then that awesome choir kicks in.
Viva Ishtar. Honest and popular don’t go hand in hand.

Absolutely love this song.
Omg i love Ishtar it the best freaking movie ever!!!!!
The most under rated, also.
Yes. I don't care what those jerk critics said. This movie rocks.
The critics definitely did not get the joke.

Paul Williams really is brilliant. He does not get the credit he deserves.
Love life's greatest reward
Life is the way we audition for God
Let's pray we ALL get the job!

I absolutely LOVE this movie! So happy to see I'm not alone in my love of this classic. :-)
Telling that truth is just DANGEROUS business
If this film becomes a cult classic after it's unfair savaging in 1986, I will be quite happy. Maybe it has already?
You didn't see the 25th anniversary piece in the New York Times. HUGE spread. It has totally become a cult classic!
Or maybe 30th anniversary
It is a movie that people who are secure in who they are thinik is funny, but the insecure see themselves. I think it is hilarious.
It has not
It just played as an Elaine May monogram at the Viennale film fest in Vienna, Austria-the crowd loved it!
Dustin Hoffman & Warren Beatty have all my full respect!
I saw this movie when I was a kid and loved it and this song has stuck with me as an asult
I just saw her; AN UNDERVALUED GEM OF A MOVIE
My favorite line from them is "...and a lawn mower can do all that, it's a-ma-zing!"
Best band in the world!!!❤❤❤
I remember me and my brother both loved this movie, back in the 80's, but it was a huge bomb, at the box office. lol.
I never saw the whole movie, but the LIttle Darling scene cracks me up.
I've loved this movie ever since it came out. It's really a shame that it was branded such a flop as I think it kept people from seeing it. It's absolutely hilarious and the songs SUCK SO GOOD!
Music from the great Paul Williams!
“Kareem! Kareem! Kareem Abdul!!! Kareem Abdul!!!!…..
-ABDUL JABBAR!!
-Abdul Jabbar!!!”
Iwas born in the 2000ns but still love the movie
The only thing
that Simon & Garfunkel
or Bruce Springsteen
or any of these guys have
that they don't have is an agent...
This movie is so fucking funny and characterful - seems the critical response was more to do with sexism than anything else.
One of the funniest, underrated movies ever!
Yes. Greatest & most accurate rock and roll movie..... ever.
Best movie soundtrack.
honest and popular don't go hand in hand...
Cryin' out loud gets you pointed and laughed at!
Here with you enjoying Ishtar! 2021!!
Ah, wow! thanks for posting this--such a trip!

Hit me with an Elaine May revival
