This movie got my family through some very dark times. I would shove this into the VCR and worries and anxiety would disappear for a while. We loved it.
Thank you for posting this clip. I was talking with my daughter about brainstorming and writing, and mentioned Ishtar as an example. I'll show her this clip, because it is exactly as you say: the "best exposition of the creative process" I've ever seen. Consultants and lecturers should show this at their seminars on creativity. Loved the movie, too.
I loved the premise and the nonsensical songs written by heavyweight writers. With creative editing cutting maybe an hour + of drivel this would have been a hit. In its present form its still in my top 5 favorite movies ever.
ISHTAR is NOT the "worst movie ever made"...not even close. ISHTAR isn't even the worst film of 1987. It is actually better than many other comedies released that year. Even if the film wasn't very good, the songs alone are hilarious.
"tellin' the truth...tellin' the truth is a...is a scary...tellin' the truth is a scary predicament- Tellin' the truth is a bitter herb-Tellin' the truth is a dangerous tunnel, when you get out of that tunnel, you got bitter herb (it's like black life ahead)-Forget 'herb'. I never heard a hit that had the word 'herb' in it!" I laughed so hard at this movie i almost peed myself. Stupid? Certainly. But stupid is often funny. That's why the Three Stooges lasted 30 years.
Remember The Far Side comic where the movie rental store in Hell has only copies of Ishtar? Gary Larson admitted he made the comic without seeing the movie. He later caught the movie on cable TV and admitted he actually liked it a little.
This Ishtar clip is so....annoying? No....no, this Ishtar clip is so....repetitive? No, no, hang on, wait for it, i'm thinking,......ok......This Ishtar clip is kinda, kinda, this Ishtar clip is kinda......funny? Kinda.....kinda.....or is it a little? This Ishtar clip is a little confusing? This Ishtar clip is a little confusing! Why...? Why is it confusing...? Oh, Oh! This Ishtar clip might come off as confusing! But that's because it was ahead of its time. YES! WE GOT IT!
We did this recently on our bad movie podcast DareDaniel.com daredaniel.com/2019/02/26/dare-daniel-podcast-episode-33-ishtar/ This opening is a prime example of why I felt Ishtar is BETTER THAN IT'S REPUTATION! There are great, legit great, comedic moments in this movie.
me too sister!!!! but where is my favorite song? - i even know the words!!! "i promise i'll love you forever, a promise i'm willing to keep, you'll be well taken care of after i'm gone, off to the land of the big sleep...i'm leaving...some love in my will...." (klunk in the face with the mike...)!!!
This movie got my family through some very dark times. I would shove this into the VCR and worries and anxiety would disappear for a while. We loved it.
Elaine May’s underrated masterpiece. Hollywood politics destroyed the legacy of this great film. One of the best comedy movies of ALL time.
I'm tellin' ya. What this movie needed was a good agent.
This movie was as good as any Oscar winner movie...
@@Djibpiz lie
Amazing joke ;)
And Bil Murray as Chuck and Dustin Hoffman as Lyle
"Tellin' the truth can be dangerous.."
"WHY?"
NO, it IS a very good film! Genius. Pure comedy gold.
"Dangerous Business" is as good a song as "Bridge Over Troubled Water" any day of the week!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. AND I AGREE, THE BEST PORTRAIT OF THE WRITING PROCESS I'VE EVER SEEN.

I am here from Jonathan Blow.
Hi Luca! How've you been? 🤣
Love in my will sung to a very elderly couple on their anniversary is Gold
1:14 This moment here is where Matthew Perry got his one-word impression of Dustin Hoffman saying the word "Why?" that Matthew did on Letterman.
Saw this movie at the theater with my uncle and cousins. We were the only ones laughing.
best movie ever, legend so funny got to be watched
She's going to change her name to Carol.
Now I know why there's this uncomfortable silence whenever I tell people I play the accordion.
I'm still impressed with this movie.

At the time it was, now that honour belongs to a movie called “The Room”.
Great song telling the truth is sometimes impossible

LOVE this song!
Ishtar is hitting Blu Ray on January 4th, 2011
Remember The Far Side comic where the movie rental store in Hell has only copies of Ishtar? Gary Larson admitted he made the comic without seeing the movie. He later caught the movie on cable TV and admitted he actually liked it a little.
Let me tell you what I told Tony Bennett - sing songs people know. That way if they don't like you they'll still have something to clap about.
The audio is about 30 seconds out of sync from the video. Thats dangerous business right there.
A great movie!
This is actually the way I write music. Just in my head, not aloud.
3 2 3 4, 4 2 3 AND!
Tellin the truth is a scary predicament. If they had gone with that original line they would have had a big hit on their hands.
Top 10 greatest scenes in movie history
