Just train a couple of the older kids to hit fungoes, then rotate them. "Looking good, guys!"

At older ages, the majority of ground balls to the middle infield will have backspin: topspin still predominates for 1B/3B. Adjust fungo reps accordingly.

I'm 47 and remember fungos in my high school days. They've been around as long as baseball.

@@robertB2427 OK well I play baseball until I was 16 and never heard that term. So apparently I’m special and lived underneath a rock. So does it mean you’re just hitting grounders?

@@codyransom7277 fungos are bats. They are longer and skinnier than a normal bat. You've probably seen coaches with bats with tape on the barrel. That likely was a fungo.

It's to protect the barrel of the bat from splitting...also takes a little off the ball

Wrong! The small bat with the glove is pro
