- A "fungo" bat is a long, lightweight baseball bat used by coaches during pregame & practice to help them hit grounders and fly balls with more consistency and less fatigue.
So today the Bat Bros will be testing out 8 different fungos, and we're gonna let you know which one we like best!

You forgot to include the SSK fungo, probably the most widely used in MLB. Could have also done an accuracy test to see how well you can place fungos.

We need a fungo competition between you two. Who is the better fungo coach. Do an In and Out, fly balls/grounders to outfield positions. Then grounders to infield. Top is off with the always difficult pop up to the catcher. I got pretty good at that this year in my first full year of fungo hitting high school :).

Lol the episode I didn't know I wanted. Reminds me of my high school coach that would try to hit bombs on us outfielders when he'd get pissed, then get more pissed that he couldn't go yard lol
I like the demarini, it's not smoking balls at 110 but you can reach our and touch any part of the ball park if you wanted, and you don't have to worry about it breaking, and it sounds killer.
I coach high school ball and for the past 3 seasons I’ve been swinging a custom B45 34.5 fungo and by far the best I’ve used. Easy to control good pop and allows you to put the ball exactly where you want it
I run the corndog fungo for my 3 teams and i love it. Its so much lighter to lug around to tourneys and its just cooler and the kids love it.
Same, the fungodelic is just cool.

Hey man, my ash fungo was my Dad's from 1998 and now I use it all the time for practices. Both high school/college level and Youth ages. Still kicking, no damage. Some dents but nothing major. Makes a nice little whistle sound when you swing it so the kids all me "Whistler" xD
My coach has a bamboo bat fungo that he has used for more than 20 years. When I say that thing is genuinely terrifying to take ground balls from, I mean it. It is so freaking hot.
I'm an assistant HS coach and we use wood fungos from Hoosier Bat Co. Three piece wood bat...Ash handle, maple barrel and ash again on the end cap. If you wrap athletic tape around the barrel it will last longer....I have had my fungo for 10 years and it's still going strong. I think you're missing a couple things on your testing....the feel of the bat when you hit it and the accuracy....can you place the ball in the area you want consistently and can you swing it for long periods of time with out getting worn out. Coaches....well most of us....are not out there worried about exit velo or how far can we hit it....we want something we can be consistent, accurate and not wear us out after 10 swings. Thats one thing I like about the Hoosier Bats....very well balanced.

Fungo bats are interesting 🤔. I guess I'll have to learn more about Fungo Golf. I haven't played ball "soft ball", for a few years COVID happened and my kids just played his first year of tee ball. With summer here now it looks like it might be a cool hobby to pickup.
I didn't know that I was missing a fungo review in my life. But now, I want to own that 34" maple.

I will say alot of the time with wood fungus the barrel ends up being taped just to keep them from separating, and most of the time they aren't trying to smoke them out of the ball park, if it can hit good pop ups to the outfield and line drives and also can hit ground balls then a fungo is doing its job.
What kind of tape? And would taping the aluminum Marucci help “deadened” the ball?
I have the fungodelic, used it for years with no issues.

Great video boys! Loved the fungos for us washed up coaches! HAHA I've been using a 34" bamboo bat fungo for the past few years and you are certainly right about them being a "LOG." Once I got used to the end loaded barrel I love the thing. Effortless fly balls and it is durable. Been using it for 4 years and hardly any wear on it! Keep up the good work Will and it was good to see JT back on the channel!
I've used a 36" LS Fungo at all our travel practices for 2 years....no durability issues at all if you tape the barrel with athletic tape.
I have a 34" victus birch I picked up used. Little athletic tape on the barrel. Little tape on the handle pop flys for days

I was using an old 32/20 easton zcore little league bat, so easy to control and little league bats of that era crushed.

My dad has the Marucci fungo first practice he used it in he hit all of the out when doing pop flies
There is a Rawlings composite fungo it has a silver barrel and black handle and my dad is mid 40s hitting it to the fence on a 300 field
The Old Hickory F2 Maple is being slept on. Got one in 34 and one in 36.
JT is use to our swamp air in Lafayette lol. Also LOVED watching him play for the Cajuns.

Loved my mizuno.
I also had a 34” Warstick that was easy to control. Was not very durable. But like you said… ash bat.
And my last one was a Chandler maple fungo. Used it my last season coaching 4 years ago. End loaded. Harder to control. Burned a lot of kids tho lol
you need to get the composite softball style fungos, my coaches can hit balls like 400+ with them they are nuts

Victus makes the best outfield fungo, SSK best all around and Marucci wood infield . Most in this video are way too heavy for 3 hr practices. Just my opinion but I do run practices 5x a week and tournaments every weekend between all my teams. I love hitting fungos as a pitcher you hit many in your life time

almost every coach ive seen here in Australia has some kind of tape wrapped around the barrel, the ones who dont have a giant mark on the barrel where the paint has fully worn off from hitting fielding practice. not sure if the paint saving is the reason, prevent the wood from flaking is the reason, or if it is better for the fielder to see, but i think that may be something to look into

My coach has one and it’s a school legend and if you get to even hold it it’s an honor. I found it after practice in the cages and it hit some tanks for sure too bad it’s breaking lol
You gotta get the SSK fungo in there. My grandpa has had his for about 15 years. He coached professionally for 40 years so it’s got a lot of use

Just can't get behind a metal fungo... Got a 37" Easton fungo I hit for my son's practice. It's a log, but a huge sweet spot that's easy swinging with lots of pop. Really similar to the Rawlings.
Why? every company can make a fungo identical to anyone else. literally. Mo ones owns a certain turn style or has magic wood. If you haven't tried any of the newer age metal fungos you might find you love it. Hit balls harder, for longer periods of time, and without blisters.

Easy hack on the ash fungo. Single layer of black athletic tape on the barrel. Won't ever flake and fielders see the ball off of it a little better.

I'm in the minority I guess in that I don't really care for the SSK. Tiny barrel diameter, tiny sweet spot, and way too light for a 37" imo. Hakusoh 36" japanese maple is my all-time favorite just for how it feels to me. The Rawlings is a great durable under $100 option. I like the feel of the Mizuno pros, but they're not durable in the slightest.
