Welcome to my first extended virtual tour on UA-cam. What better place to start than one of the most beautiful places in Scotland!

So beautiful. A mystical natural wonderland. No wonder why Scotland is listed as the most beautiful place in the world.
Many thanks Molly. I love this place
Wow you took me back, we got married here on 30 October 2023 in Ossians Hall and it was a magical day. We love the Hermitage and are fortunate to only live less than an hour from it. We’ll return next October for our first wedding anniversary. Thank you 🫶🏼
My wife and I are from Mississippi in the USA. We have visited this place and made the circuit hike there several times when visiting. We have stayed at the Atholl house in Dunkeld (Holiday Inn) and have driven in several times from the Jute Mill at Blairgowrie just a short drive away. The Hermitage, Scone Palace, the Cateran Trail, Dunkeld Cathedral, and Cargill's Leap on the walk from the Jute Mill into Blairgowrie are just fantastic. Anyone in the area that wants a first class diner should eat at Little's in Blairgowrie/Rattray. I LOVE SCOTLAND.
Found you detecting first. Your knowledge and ease of relating of the history Scotland is the biggest reason I became a regular viewer of your other UA-cam channel. You bring characters and stories to life. This? Spectacular. Thank you for what you do! ♥
Thanks for the kind words Elaine. So glad you enjoyed and many more tours to come!
@@visitscotlandtours1 Same, will def be coming to visit soon enough.
@@visitscotlandtours1I thought you looked and sounded familiar. I'm enjoying your channel very much.
What detecting channel
@@whiskeycook3323I think it's called The Scottish Detectorist
John, I’m pleased that while the National Trust warns visitors about copper poisoning while discouraging visitors from pounding coins into tree trunks, I am happy to see that they haven’t hauled off the stump to augment the till of the Trust! Beautiful tour! Also, if you ever wish to visit California to see two favorites of John Muir, Muir Woods in Marin County, north of the Golden Gate Bridge and Yosemite National Park, send me a message!
I live in the Piedmont in North Carolina , USA. I can see why so many ended up in this area from Scotland, no matter when or how they got here. It is so similar in terrain. It is so beautiful in Scotland!
Scotland is beautiful.
Amen 🙏 😆
I love Scotland! My maternal grandparents were born there. My friend and I visited in 1994 and I ache to go back! Beautiful country but bad politics (like most of us around the world). Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for watching, haste ye back
You made comments about David Douglas. This is an excellent book written in the Pacific Northwest about his travels. Really brings to life the times he was collecting in this region.
The Collector: David Douglas and the Natural History of the Northwest
by Jack Nisbet
I love your detecting but this channel brings the beauty of Scotland and it’s history right over my doorstep and into my home, where you will be a welcome channel often. 🥰
Aww thanks …Glad you enjoyed thanks for watching
I loved the video! I hope there’s more to come. Your mic did a great job, btw. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Much appreciated Violet
Thank you for posting this video. Used to live just outside Dunkeld and visited the hermitage many times. You’re right about the hermitage being a magical place and you did a good job capturing the stunning scenery ! (mind you, not so sure quite how much Ossian appreciated the splendour of the views since he was reportedly blind 😁). Been away from Scotland too many years now. This video rekindled desire to return home some day. Thanks again for posting. Cheers, 👍
The spirit and tenacity of the Scottish people is well represented by the story of the unfair toll being forcibly removed. Or so this old Yank believes. 🏴🙏❤️
Absolutely breathtaking and fascinating from beginning to end! I am all a-thrill! Can't wait!!! Huge gratitude to you, Sir!
You are so welcome! ☺️
It is unlikely I will ever see this in person. The work you put in to bring this to us is much appreciated. Thank you.
We had just gotten to Edinburgh when I watched this video! So glad I did. It was the perfect halfway point between our AirBnB locations. What a beautiful hike. The river was quite full, the sun shining, and seeing the “wishes” all over the forest trails was quite nice too. The trees covered in moss was a nice touch. Your video was amazing, but seeing it in person even better! Thanks again John!
Thank you John, for a wonderful and informative video. I have been enjoying the Scottish Detectorist and your history lessons for some time and all I could think of when I saw those coin trees - was "Coin Hoard" :D Thank you so much for the Insight you give to a place you love. Looking forward to the next tour :)
Haha 😂 many thanks Jennifer and I’m glad you enjoyed! Best wishes and thanks for your support
Tuned in here from your shout out in MD video and I’m so pleased I did. What a truly magnificent place, I can’t wait to visit. loved every minute of your commentary and the stunning scenery, Thanks for sharing John and look forward to seeing more sites in Scotland.
Love this! I am mainly of the Sutherland Clan, but also the Murray's. I have got to get there. I own 5 square foot of land outside of Inverness and can legally use Lady before my name. I want to get more reforestation in the Highlands! My people have been here in the Colonies since 1747. We were among the first to hit the Far Blue Smokey Mountains, the first frontier. It looks exactly like where I live in the Appalachians!
Absolutely Beautiful! Thanks for the tour, John.
Many thanks
Your love for your country comes true in you tone & words. I bet you can figure out the coins that are buried in the wood…..even with only a fraction of the coin showing.😊
Many thanks Claire. Glad you enjoyed. Possibly my favourite place in Scotland
What a beautiful place John, and good to see the other side of the SD channel! This video is good enough to bring the world to Perthshire! I’m definitely going to plan a break there and visit this magical place 😍
Many thanks Pauline. Glad you enjoyed
691st subscriber!... I was one of the first 1000 on the Scottish Detectorist. "yay me"
I could get me some nice big Brown Trout below that waterfall.
Well there we go again… another task for us. Like and share. I guess king John wants 22k on this channel too? 😁
Scottish Trout, like the folks, are very picky. I’ve heard they only bite on scones with jam or chocolate. 🥯🍩 The trout that is….
Yep, really picky, I mean, we don’t see John going around the fields with a Garret Ace 200. It had to be the XP Deus 2. 😉
Much appreciated
Your vlogs have proven to be so useful for planning my next trip to Scotland. My Scottish husband was wonderfully proud of his country and set me on the same path of appreciation for the glorious scenery and history of his grand home of Scotland. He oftentimes used the same description...absolutely gorgeous! Thank you, John.
Some of the shots in your video would make fantastic postcards. The colours in the trees and the foaming river with the mist in the air are absolutely beautiful
Thanks Jan! Glad you enjoyed
I can see why you are so passionate about your homeland.
Beautiful it is.
Many thanks I feel blessed to live here!! ❤️ 🏴
So glad to see you on this new channel, John. The Hermitage is a family favorite walk. So so beautiful! I’m excited to see , and hear, more of you on this new UA-cam venture.
Many thanks Derin. Couldn’t agree more, I love this place!!
Very, very much enjoyed this beautiful walk along the Hermitage path. Absolutely gorgeous. I look forward to many more of your informative guided tours John.
My pleasure Myn and I’m glad you enjoyed, see you on the next!
Thank you so much what a beautiful place. My husband is from Scotland living in Canada absolutely love these videos.
Thanks Julie. Much appreciated & I hope he isn’t too homesick!
This makes me so happy. John, you are an incredible talent.
Aww thanks much appreciated
Thank you for this gorgeous walk through the woods. So wonderfully peaceful and calming in stressful times . Best regards from war-torn Israel
Whenever I need a soothing escape from work, and daily life-I come to your page(s). I'm a history/travel junkie. The pace and content of your tours are spot on. Thank you again for sharing your amazing knowledge and love of your stunningly beautiful country! I often wonder how my ancestors could leave such a magnificent and magical country!! Hello from Santa Fe New Mexico (USA)
John, I have been watching your metal detecting for almost a year now and this is the first time I’ve been to your Travel Channel. I didn’t know what I was missing.
Wow! Thanks for sharing all of this with us! Looking forward to watching the rest! 😍
Many thanks and happy new year!
Another great job John, best of luck with your new channel.
Thanks Laura much appreciated
Well, how lovely was that? What an absolutely beautiful part of the world! I can't walk these days but it used to be one of my main pleasures in life, and to be able to watch as you took us along on this walk was just brilliant!
Thank you so much! A guided walk is always better when you can learn something about what you are seeing and you are an excellent guide. A fountain of knowledge and information! You're a great storyteller, as you manage to bring the tale to life. I can tell I'm going to love your new channel as much as the detecting one!
Many thanks Jan and I’m glad you enjoyed. I wish I hadn’t drowned out quite so much of the flowing water noise but at least you could hear me! Many thanks
Sigh.
This looks so much like my home state of West Virginia, USA. As you say, they were once connected. WV was also heavily settled by the Scots partly because it reminded them so much of home. I guess now I can say it also reminds me so much of home; my ancestral home.
What a wonderful boon to the country the creator of this incredible parkland accomplished. I could spend a lifetime there I think, or at least years, just wandering and studying the different species of plants. And watching the river, letting it both soothe and excite my soul.
Thank you for this wonderful tour. I could almost feel my feet squishing the Scottish mud.
spectacular!
Thank you Nancy
Best of luck with your new channel john, just subscribed .
Many thanks Pat. Much appreciated
Magical place. Thank you for this wonderful tour and great education.
Thank you
Added to my must see list. Amazing the coin tree tradition. Love new knowledge.

Thanks Debbie. Glad you enjoyed!! Best wishes and see you in the next tour!
As a young man in the RN I visited many Scottish ports, never venturing inland, thanks for rubbing it in John. Stunning
Haha 😂 well you’re mine was on other things! Make it happen
OMG, John, this the most beautiful video I have ever seen. The scenery is breath taking..... and the color of the trees are glorious. The waterfalls are truly wonderful and put together, as you have, is stunning! Thank you so much! As you might be able to tell. I loved it! Thank you for sharing!
Breathtaking tour. Thank you for sharing a view of your beautiful world!
Many thanks and I’m glad you enjoyed
Wow, amazing to see this again after so many years of not seeing it. I lived in Burnham, Dunkeld and went to the Royal School of Dunkeld when I was young. My family owned the Smithy House in Burnham/Dunkeld, the local farriers house. My family restored it to a beautiful property after being abandoned for many years. We used to horse ride up those tracks and walk there on school day trips. Lovely scenery and the most beautiful area to be. My family have roots to the area of Aberfeldy and Kenmore, so the area to me is like a second home. The Mains of Taymouth was owned and run by family until quite recently, when they sold it on after the estate being part of the family for over 100 years. Still have family in the area and one lives on the grounds of the local Taymouth castle in Kenmore. Would love to be walking in your footsteps while you take in the lovely nature and animals. Thanks for uploading this video. 😊 maybe if you get a chance to visit Aberfeldy and Kenmore - J K Rowling is a famous neighbour and she is often in Aberfeldy visiting the local shops lol. Taymouth Castle is a must see.
Thanks for the kind words and glad I’ve brought back some happy memories! Definitely Aberfeldy and Kenmore to come and I’m definitely going for a behind the scenes looks around the new Crannog site soon!! Watch this space
Loch Tay is Beautiful (my aunt and uncle live on the bank of the Loch. Oban is another place to add to your list. A worthwhile visit steeped in history. Happy adventures/travels 😊
Hi John, beautyful. Perfect tour gide. No nonsens and telling how it was in the old times just like your detecting chanel wich I love also to watch and subscribet to. I always wanted to visit Scotland and visit the old Castels. It is such a mittical country. Looking forward to the next video. Well don.
Much appreciated Jack. Thanks for the kind words and your support
What beautiful scenery and a great video to watch thank you 👍🇨🇦
Glad you enjoyed Eva! Best wishes
This looks like driving the river road in the Great Smokey Mountains National Park here where I was born and have lived all my life in Tennessee. Our property joined the border line of the park. The hills were a playground for myself and my brother and sister. We ran these hills like the wild critters. My older brother would hunt and bring home rabbit and squirrel for us. I would never eat it! A sweet rabbit or squirrel. Thats about the only meat we had. Beautiful! Thank You John!
just subscribed, already enjoy your metal-detecting videos John and now there's this channel which is absolutely amazing. If I'm ever blessed to get to Scotland, Perthshire will be the place for me. Looking forward to future videos and thank you.
Welcome to the Channel penny and thanks for your support
Wow John!!! You ought to think about doing this for a living!!!! 🤗 Absolutely could listen to you for hours!!! Well done Sir! ❤👍👍👍👍👍👍
Fantastic! Loved it!!! Thank you! ❤
Many thanks Connie. See you in the next!!
Years back, we visited your amazing country..3weeks spent traveling through stops, including Hermitage with McBackers Tours and a lovely guide named Grahm. Absolutely stunning!!!!
I hope you’ll be coming back soon to see some more! But glad you have such happy memories
Simply stunning and now on my list when I next visit Scotland!
Definitely one to see ☺️
I love how you gave exact descriptions of the locale of The Hermitage, along with info about the overflow parking facilities and the fact that you must have 3 pound coins for parking. You also gave a nod towards Dunkeld for their cafe's, well done John! Your information is so informative about the history of Scotland, you are a treasure to your country.
i was raised in dunkeld. i lived straight up the hill from the left side of the bridge. this was my brothers and mine fishing hole..i now live in northern california. its really great to see my old haunts again. thanks john. .i also watch avidly your metal detecting videos.
Many thanks Roy. Happy memories I hope!!
Thank you so much for making the soothing restful recording of the Hermitage. It was delightful, and gave me the desire to visit it one day.
I was born in Perth and miss the beautiful scenery I grew up with, I had never heard of the Hermitage, unfortunately I will not be able to go and view this beautiful view. You have taught me where two names came from. The river Bran (Bran Terrace was the name of a road that leads you up the hill from Mercer Terrace) The river Lyn (we used to go swimming at the Lyn in Stanley Thank you. 21:51 👵🏼❤️
I walked here in the winter of 1980… snow and ice everywhere and it was stunning!! I was 16 at the time and on holiday staying with my Granny in Edinburgh and we had driven up to Blairgowrie to stay with a friend of Mums. I think it was about -10 which didn’t bother this skier and tramper from New Zealand.
Must be time for another visit Catherine. ☺️
I am a decent of the Graham clan of Montrose. I can go from 1400s until today. Thank you for showing me the castle they use to live in. I am Scottish and English, and American Indian.
Very cool! Headed here from your plug in the latest detecting video. Enjoying your tour. What a beautiful country!
Thanks Izzy. And thanks for the support
So so beautiful❤❤❤
This was spectacular! Thank you for sharing this beautiful gem of an area and its history! I can’t wait for your next tour!
Absolutely breathtaking!!!!! #1 on my bucket list is to visit Scotland. I absolutely love this video......feels like I am there. The scenery is so amazing!!!! Thank you!!!
Much appreciated and I’m glad you enjoyed 😆
This is one of The most beautiful places i have ever been! Thank you for all of the historical information.
Absolutely beautiful video John!
Many thanks 😊
Beautiful. Very much resembles my forest here in Michigan. Our oldest two trees are oaks and beech as the white pine was logged out then replanted with red and Scotch pine. The steep terrain is here too, left by the glaciers. Looking forward to visiting Scotland one day.
Beautiful gorgeous site. And narration. Thank you, from a great grandmother, age 81, with deep Scottish roots. Am
in freezing cold, beautiful Montana, on top of the Continental Divide, the town at 6,200 feet. . Its going to be 8 degrees F. tonite. Deep snow. October 26, 2023.
I also found you through your Detecting channel.Having purchased my first Detector,,,,,,,I found this video wonderful.I have been very partial to Scotland....both my Great Grandmother and Grandmother on my mothers side were born in Glasgow...myself I was born in England but have lived in California since I was a young boy.I visit family in England often...but have never visited Scotland.....that is for sure going to change after watching your videos.......maybe I can look you up as a tour guide when I do visit. I look forward to more video's.
You definitely need to come. I’m also Glasgow born! You’ve endless places to explore!! Make it happen
Thanks I will... I know you are keen on History. In 2007 I visited Belgium to attend the unveiling of a Memorial Cross Statue honoring all the Scotts who fell at Paashendael. One who was my Great,Great Uncle George Devlin of Glasgow ...he is buried in France and I visited his grave on my return to England ...I left a Scottish flag on his grave on which I had written that he was not forgotten.I will for sure come to visit Scotland, soon.

Danke!! I hope you make it over soon too!!
Don't we have the same, still beautiful and deep forests in Germany ? In Franconia for instance, to name but a few !
John, it was an absolute pleasure to walk along beside you in this fabulous video. I'm going to take some stills and hopefully paint them, the views are spectacular! You certainly chose the right day to visit, the light showed off the colours of the trees at their purest. It certainly was magical. I've never heard of this place, and know I'll never get to see it in person, so thank you, your video did Scotland and the Hermitage proud. Much love to you and Mrs John 😘😘Chez in Lliria Valencia Spain 😘😘

Great video. Beautiful place to visit. Went at the weekend but it was overrun with hoards of people. Couldn't believe how popular this place is. Maybe better to go during the week.
Aww no! That’s a shame. Yes definitely during the week or early morning is best!
Been there many times over the years. One of my favourites. I am luck to live in 🏴
Well done John, i enjoyed that.

What a beautiful video. Thank you!❤
Well put together John... Dunkeld is a cracking place 👍
Many thanks and thanks for watching
I love visiting Blair Castle, I first went there in the 60s as a school child . I remember the Duke of Atholl sitting talking to me while I ate a packed lunch .Years later( 50 ) I recognised him in a portrait, which is remarkable as I can't remember people's faces very well 😅 you are very good at this malarkey haha 😅
Many thanks Janie happy memories I bet!
Wow, what a stunning little piece of paradise John. Love the history of it
What an amazing place ❤ I bet it smells amazing too after the rain has soaked the ground the trees and the fallen leaves 🍂
So beautiful!
Thanks Sally. Glad you enjoyed
You love Scotland for sure. Well done from start to finish. The camera did a fine job but to be there in person would be unequaled. Thanks for all your videos.
