My First Ever Video! Walking The Hermitage at Dunkeld, Scotland + Painting a Purple Mushroom

- Join me (Sarah) and Jack Spaniels as we search for artistic inspiration on the magical Hermitage Walk at Dunkeld in Scotland.
We walk through the autumn leaves along the River Braan to find Ossian's Hall and the Hermit's Cave hidden in the woods.
We look for things to photograph along the way, that I can take home and paint - watch as the watercolour painting comes together at the end of the video.

We live in Canada, so under the deep freeze right now. Was so nice to walk with you in that beautiful place. Mushroom picking is one of our passions. Was super excited when you decided to paint the Blewett. Beautiful!

Sarah, that was wonderful from start to finish. Jack Spaniel looks So happy and the scenery and sounds were to die for. I LOVE mushrooms, any kind, I have ceramic, stone and lava ones in the garden and put the edible kind in almost everything I cook. Your mushroom painting is absolutely gorgeous. Sarah I love your new channel! Your walks are very relaxing and informative! My favorite thing is that you’ve inspired me to paint. A year ago we remodeled our house and my husband made our second bedroom into a studio for me. Due to cancer I haven’t painted in there yet. Trying to organize and motivate myself to work in short spurts. But it hasn’t happened. After watching your video I have been inspired to get busy with my art! I was raised in dunkeld, lived just up the hill from the hermitage, it was my fishing hole. Thanks for taking me back there, I live in Northern California now.

How lovely to hike next to water, through the forest. The waterfall was beautiful. Focusing on a single, special bit of nature is a wonderful idea. Love your pretty watercolour mushroom…funghi are fascinating, aren’t they?

It's 5am, the sun's come up sorrounded by colour, the birds are in full song, my battle with my head begins for another day, and the musicality of your voice,, and willys soulful tunes, accompanied by the visually meditative aspect of nature, and the mesmerising wonder of a work of art coming into being have truly calmed this Savage beast, a truly wonderful beginning Sarah.

My hubby & I had dreamed of one day visiting Scotland, but sadly our health will not permit it now. So really appreciate you sharing your walks and your talent! Your sweet Jack Spaniel adores you and is such a wonderful companion.

What a happy dog! I have a golden retriever that I wouldn’t have been able to keep out of the water. I love your art. Hunting mushrooms on dog walks is a favorite of mine.
Thanks Barb! We think Jack may be the happiest dog in the world sometimes :) He is usually quite sensible though, especially when the water is very fast. We do keep a close eye on him too. I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Sarah x

I'm so glad I've found your channel! The filming is brilliantly done, and I can tell it was done from an artist standpoint. Wills playing in the background is such a nice accomplishment. A wondrous place! I love being in the woods too, with my dog Sophie. Yum, wild mushrooms on toast with garlic and thyme is a gift from the woodland wee folk. Love your art, to capture the life in a 🍄 mushroom.

Jack seems to be a responsible pet...always seems to know where you are. How often do you have to call him back?---I loved all of this, and am coming along for more!

Wow! Scotland is such a beautiful place. If I ever get to travel out of country I want to visit Scotland, and my heritage land Ireland. My name is Glenna, I'm on Mike's youtube cause he pays for premium, lol. I absolutely love what you have painted on Willies channel, and when he said you had a new channel I was immediately searching for it. My goodness it's so gorgeous! I live in the Appalachian mountains in west virginia, USA. I would love to send you some photos 📷 from here. I also walk and photograph, and paint. And we had some amazing mushrooms pop up this fall that were perfect for photographing, and eating lol. We had coral mushrooms which I had never seen here before and was quite excited to find them. Also chicken of the wood mushrooms. Bright orange and yellow, and they taste like steak if you cook them with a bit of sauce. I will look to find an email, and send you some photos of our beautiful home in the mountains. We have about 80 acres to roam and play on. Mostly forested and gorgeous! Your painting turned out brilliant, bravo. Very enjoyable video.

Amazing talent have you been up Moncreiffe hill beautiful place I lived on Moncreiffe estate many years ago as a kennel hand I loved walking in the woods especially at dawn on fresh snow magical plenty inspiration there for your art 🥰

Sarah, everything about your video is incredible, the scenery, the videography, Willie’s music, seeing Jacks personality and of course your painting! I was captured right from the start and taken back by all the emotions I felt - tranquility, peace, wonder and in awe of the beauty. I loved the scenery and sounds of the walk. Seems Jack did also. I noticed he had his compass stick so you guys wouldnt get lost. I used to trek in the mountains all the time but havent been able to for a long time now. Its great to know l can now do it thru your videos! Thank you so much! So I am here at the start of your channel after enjoying viewing the Skye videos. Not gonna lie, am a huge dog lover so Jack Spaniels is a big bonus. How did you keep him out of the water on that walk? All the comments have very eloquently said what I am thinking, so won’t even try. I am going thru your previous videos, and Willie’s as well. Thanks so much! I’m glad you have come on board 😊 It is very difficult to keep Jack out of the water normally, but he is quite sensible when it comes to danger so he keeps away from the rapids and waterfalls!

Hello Beautiful artwork! I love your technique! I am curious as to what brands of paint and pens you use? Might make a good vid on discussing your brands and why. I have never really tried paint pens at all, always used the old school way, usually I use Dick Blick or Staedtler paints, but it's been a while for me (have M.S.) . Your art work I love how detailed and realistic it is! Beautifully done! :) just to put it out there I was a art instructor of advanced styles and techniques.
Hi Debra - thanks so much for your lovely comment! I use watercolour pens by the brand Dyffle - which were recommended to me by a friend who also went to art school with me. I also have a set of Windsor & Newton traditional watercolours so I do use both. I think I find the pens more comfortable to use as I love drawing and sketching - so it feels more like that technique. I’m definitely planning on doing some shorter videos about how I paint (although I can’t pretend to know everything about watercolours!) Sarah x

Something to consider. Using more of the location instead of music overlay. That way we can enjoy the natural sounds that you enjoyed.
