For the Langly bag if you put everything on the side pockets in a carrier bag or something you can just pull that while bag out of the pocket and get to things easier :)

You can also put those small items in a ziplock bag, and put that into those side pockets.
To me Tony's backpack looks neat, study and classical but also heavy and not practical. Chelsea's backpack looks much lighter and more practical.
BTW the timelaps of the clouds drifting over the Machu Pichu looked amazingly good, with the shadows and godrays, DR and sense of scale and the slow pan!

I started doing photography about a year ago. I am still very new to everything. the bag I chose to get is the lowepro slingshot 202 aw. It has a surprising amount of features, which is true for most of lowepro products. I am able to put my Nikon d3300, my 55-300mm lens, the kit lens 18-55mm, and my 35mm 1.8g. I still have room for 2 more lenses too. I really like the slingshot because I don't have to take of the bag in order to get to my camera. I was astonished. It is perfect for me. it has memory card holders, it has the ability to hold a tripod, and has the waterproof shell that can wrap around the bag. I am still very new to photography, but I am glad I found the lowepro slingshot 202 aw. It is an awesome first camera bag. It was only 60 dollars. Which I think is a great deal for such a useful bag.

I've had a LowePro Transit 350AW for about a month. So far it's been great - the side pocket makes for extremely fast access to my camera (A Nikon D5500 + a Tamron 70-300 f/4-5.6), the rain cover and the pseudo-separated top compartment are both very useful, the design is not overly obvious as a camera bag and the shoulder straps are comfortable. My one gripe with the bag is that there's no dedicated water bottle or water bladder compartment, and I'm a little hesitant to put a water bottle inside with all my camera gear... My temporary solution is to attach a water bottle to the tripod loop with a carabiner.

I used a medium sized national geographic backpack and a vanguard up-rise ii 38. Just from looking at your complains about your bags, these bags don't have that problem. Overall, i'm pretty happy with these bags, even if they have their downfalls.

Shoulder bags are my favorite for camera lens swaps as Tony did in the video. I am using some generic Shoulder bag with a Ape Case insert. fits my c-mos plus few lenses. Saved me a few bucks , yet still has protection.

Great review Chelsea! I love the Lowepro Photosport series. I do a lot of hiking and backcountry skiing with my camera and I really like the photosport 200 AW because unlike your bag it allows me room to take the stuff I need to be in the outdoors (like a jacket, lunch, first aid kit etc ) along with my camera gear. It limits me to a tripod, camera and spare lens, but that's all I really want to carry anyway. The stuff pocket is great for a wet raincoat. You can get to the gear easier too with the side access.

I have the Lowpro 15L, and am really happy with it. My only issues with it are that there isn't any room for accessories and the padding on the straps could be thicker. Overall, it's light and it doesn't feel like my bag is going to swing around and hit someone. Good review! I was thinking about getting a Langly, but thought there would be problems with accessibility. Still tempting though.

Great review as usual, thank you. I really liked the Domke Metro but would like it to be a few inches deeper and to be wearable as a back pack. I see this bag as having great potential for use while driving in a game park The bag would stand open in front of the passenger seat providing quick access to the camera with telephoto lens mounted and ready.

Mindshift Rotation Professional is the best. I love mine. It's basically perfect for hiking (even really long hikes) with and being able to access the camera and lenses without taking the bag off your back. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't work the greatest for when stop at a place and want to take the bag off my shoulders and be able to get to the camera gear (because then I have to move the camera gear section of the bag out of it, and put it back in later when I'm ready to put the bag back on)

Good review. Chelsea made an important point about choosing the size of your bag carefully. If you try to overload a smaller bag you will have gear digging in to your back, not good. Always better to go up a size from what you think you will need. I have the Lowepro 400AW Flipside for hiking and the Billingham Hadley Pro shoulder bag (my fave) for when I travel light or want to look a little less dorky LOL.

  • @pajbeard6196
    @pajbeard6196 9 років тому

I opine all: if you want a bag like a rucksack, why not buy a hiker's rucksack such as the Lowepro S&F Transport Duffle Backpack; often rucksacks have top zip pockets, stand away from your body to help keep users dry; a spray such as Fabseal will imo waterproof most bags; many of the Lowepro are designed for air travel.

Have you guys tried the Clik Elite Probody Sport? I have one and absolutely love it. It is similar to the Lowepro Chelsea has, but a little bigger w/ side camera access (which I find easier when I'm on the go and don't want to take the backpack off). Granted, it is double the price of the Lowepro. Nice review.

Lowepro has just the best backpacks! I plan to get the Pro Runner 450 AW to replace my Canon Gadget Bag 1EG which has become way too small (I'd basically need 2 of those by now)... and also looks weird when you only shoot with Nikon.

I still like the Tamrac expedition's for hiking. The 6x is sized right. I mean it holds a LOT of stuff. I had the 7x for a while but you don't want to hike with that thing.

    • @nagol5178
      @nagol5178 9 років тому

It's better to put the bag down and get out a lens than some of the bags with awkward twist and pulls around your body etc. I do use it for hiking, it has water bottle on the side if you buy it, I have the flash's that are on the side, etc. There is room in there for whatever you want. You just got to arrange it. As far as things other than camera equipment, the other bags tends to not fit enough camera equipment without going huge.

Bags are SO individualistic in nature.. One size never fits all.
But, after over 35+ years of hauling product from one end of the globe to another, I have reached the following conclusions.
-Bags are very expensive when you're into size and quality and wear ability.
-STYLE should never come into play unless you look at yourself every time you pass a mirror.
-Build quality and practical solutions on design should be your main concern.
-HOW THE COMPANY DEALS WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE & WARRANTY is EVERYTHING. And I mean everything. No one wants to dump $2-300.00+ on a bag, have a zipper go South, and have to haggle or ship and complain to a person who doesn't really care... No one wants that.
And after having said all of that, NO company hits all of those check boxes as well as Think Tank Photo's line up of products, and the 'out of doors' line up designed by their off-shoot branch Mind Shift Bags.
You'll find no better design, quality, innovation, protection, and just all around rugged made bag for the dollar than this company offerings. And IF, you have an issue, there's a pretty strong chance you would hear from one of the owners themselves, or upper management to find out why, and to sort you out on your issue. I'm not lying on this.. I've spoken to one of these fellas and they mean business when it comes to your complete and utter satisfaction AFTER your sale.
I'm not sponsored by, nor have any affiliation with them other than I am a consumer with a mind for rugged well made kit -- backed by people who care. And I use their products daily.

    • @JMHSPhoto
      @JMHSPhoto 9 років тому

Thank you for adding a personal insult as your adjunct to a recommendation to a line of camera bags. You should have noted in the piece as it was being spoken and presented, this was not "a night on the town". It was about bags, their functionality, and (I added) warranty. But your words speak as a 20-30'something (with emphasis on 'something') therefore I would expect no less than what you had to offer.
And as a side note.. I do pretty well for myself whether dressed for work -- or not. I don't do little smiles and shit with my keyboard. But if I could, I'd work really hard on dropping a middle finger for you in ascii (you'll need to look that up)

I like my Manfrotto Backpack 30 and here is the amount of gear I carry in it.
    Nikon D810 w/ Grip
    Nikon 24-70 f/2.8
    Tamron 70-200 f/2.8
    Nikon 50mm f/1.4
    2 Speedlights
    15" MacBook Pro
    1 set of Extension Tubes
    4 Yongnuo Triggers
    Corded intervalometer for D810
    Rocket Blower
    2 Feet for Speedlights
1 Nikon Lens bag full of various cords
    BlackRapid Strap
    Nikon Charger
    AA Charger
    16 AA Batteries
    6 Nikon Batteries
    8 AAA Batteries (For Triggers)
    AA Battery Tray for Grip
    2 Body Caps
    2 Extra Lens Caps
    8 Memory Cards
    4 Lens Cloths
100 Business Cards (Give or Take)
    Folder with Releases
Whew.....that was a hell of a list, but when you see that it really is not that big of a bag and can fit all that it is quite a little impressive bag.

I think most camera bags are really for small cameras nowadays, unless you carry around disassembled cameras (no lens attached). Other than the 1D series for pro-shooting, I do have a mirrorless camera for casual shooting that would probably suit these better. I do like the style of that last bag, but looks like its not functional. Nice review guys.

the first bags of tony and chelsea were good for me but i used to over-carry gear and accessories [filters, film, mem, cards. I need to train myself to carry less! checking the design of bags now; it's noticeable that they don't look like camera bags due to vertical design!, altho" my old style horiz. bag gave a better view of which lens to select. matt granger showed a bag with a bright yellow interior which made selection easier:black/dark colored walls make extraction difficult! when lenses and cameras are colored black.

J/k...I love to hike way out to no mans land,to go places that others dont..love the peace and quiet..also with a tripod ...not any places around here with good quality backpacks to look at...
Another question..have you thought about designing your own backpack?

+John Gray You can check out fstop gear backpacks, they have this modular system which is very neat and allows you to use either their backpacks or your own

Do you have any bag recommendations? Manfrotto? I'm wanting to hike with two camera bodies, assorted gear and tripod. Thanks!

You should really look at the Lowepro Photo Sport BP 300 AW II. Holds 2-3 lenses (+a few primes in the main compartment) and it's supposedly shock proof. I love mine. Also perfectly fits a 13" macbook pro. There are a few other models with different sizes.
It's compatible with a camelbak and has a built in rain protector. My only gripe is the number of loose straps get out of hand, but nothing a few small rubber bands can't handle. Tony & Chelsea should definitely check it out, it's much better than the Flipside

What lens was this shot on!? Loving the swirl! Funnily enough... I just bought a Camera bag. The big one for me was the ability to carry a Tripod comfortably. I ended up deciding on the Chrome Niko Backpack. It might not be good for some, and its definitely not perfect - but its the best one for me!

Aha! I thought so - was just wondering. Another quick question sorry - Did you have any problems with the Gorillapod in Machu Picchu (did they end up charging you money)?

+Ben Porteous Nope, no problems at all, and it worked great. I used it for all the timelapses you see in this video.

Go mirrorless/bagless. Keep camera and a spare lens in jacket pockets.

I have checked the price of this bag on Amazon.com for $299.99 plus Shipping and Handling…I could purchase a good conditioned used SpeedLite for that money…WOW!
I cannot imagine having all of these issues with a camera bag…Sorry Tony!

Why do you need to keep taking out your boarding pass?
Im really curious about this one because so many people say it.
Ive started using my phone now so I just need my passport and my phone (which is always close to hand), but even when I was using paper boarding passes the only times I needed it was to check in hold luggage, buy duty free and get on the plane x2...
All of those 4 times you have more than enough time to dig out your pass.
Tenba make s much better bag than the Domke for about the same price.
Chelsea has a good eye for bags, the last one looks like a nightmare to use and a waste of money over all... it also looks like left over WWII surplus GI bag... not cool at all!
Chelsea would you consider getting the larger version of the bag you showed off?
Sporty might not fit with your D&G and all that but the zipper on the inside sure does sound nice when you got a 5DSR with a 70-200 2.8 in there.
I was in London yesterday and I was forever consious about somebody behind me opening up my bag behind me especially on the tube
