Johnny this video was very knowledgeable and will get people to understand the simple body mechanic's.
No two people are the same in gun mount. Keep up the great work

Thanks for a fantastic video! I was fortunate enough to get a gun fit several years ago and I was surprised by how involved the process was. The fitter brought a try gun and his tools. I had 2 of my guns that the fitter first took measurements from. We then went to the plate and he watched how I mounted and shot with my guns. That process took a bit of time due to nerves on my part. He then brought out the try gun first setup like the gun that I was shooting. From there he made adjustments. Once we were happy with how the try gun was on the plate we then went to several clay target stations so he could see how I hit with the try gun. After some more tweaking I was hitting targets well. He checked out the fit on my other gun with some drills and shooting. He wrote a good number of notes and fit numbers for me.
It was money well spent not only for the hard numbers generated but also the amount that I learned that day.

I knew this was going to be good the moment I read the title. But really brought it home at 29:34 when you pointed out........ 'When someones hunched up on a gun, brought their shoulder up they're shmakin' their face down, they're all over it''......That's me! No wonder my cheek is blue after 50 cartridges! I really need some tuition!

Thank you so much for all of these incredible videos. I find them so helpful and informative. I’m new to the sport and thanks to your expertise and engaging format, I’m already addicted!!! I’m learning so much from you guys in what feels like a very steep learning curve! It’s not just these type of vids though, for example, your video on conservation was incredible and opened my eyes to issues on my doorstep and I now feel much more informed. Unfortunately the ‘side of the gamekeepers’ doesn’t seem to garner much attention but seeing the passion with which they spoke, made me feel the issue really needs highlighting. I’m not local to you but am in the process of applying for my licence, and would happily spend a couple of hours in the car to visit the shop! Once again, thank you.

There is a wide variation in proper length of pull among the best world class shooters: ua-cam.com/video/MihfeSnVJR4/v-deo.html
Hunting here in Montana, length of pull can vary by 2 inches depending on whether I'm hunting huns/sharptails in a t-shirt in September or wild roosters below freezing in a parka in late December. A consistent cheek weld and alignment down the rib is key. By taping a straw on the rib, close the eyes, mount the gun, open the eyes, is there a natural look down the straw to the bead? If so, the shotgun fits.

Nicely done. I think the more you know the better you can shoot. Fit has always helped me since I have always been mostly the wrong size for average fitting guns. Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy your videos.

Jonny, would you consider making a video on shotgun sight picture? This is more of an issue for sxs shooters than others and, I believe, contributes to the shunning of those doubles.
BTW, did you know that it was your Mr. Churchill who pointed out to our Annie Oakley that her guns did not fit her properly? He then made her a 28b, I believe, but perhaps not, that was a revelation for her. Not wanting to see her shoot English guns, Parker Bros. made another 28b for her but to Churchill's measurements.

I have always had issues with gun fit. I believe its because I shot rifles with scoped from a very young age and could mount a rifle very quickly to shoot rabbits. I was wondering if this is a common problem, and if there are shotguns out there that have been custom made to replicate a rifle fit.
    Always a fan

The idea I am struggling with is the idea of having a consistent mount before you get a gun fit. My mount is inconsistent because my current gun doesn't fit, to the point I have stopped shooting yet hesitant on getting a gun fit as I know things may change when I get back to shooting regularly. Considering just buying an adjustable gun, shoot until I feel more consistent then selling for a custom fit gun. (Primarily a game shooter)

  • @joesands952

yes we know that canting a gun over will sent shot or bullet off course ! Left or Right !
so right handed with a straight stocked rifle so IF the scope was canted over slightly so reticule is at 2 minuets past 12 o clock the stock will fit easier into shoulder socket but if 2 minuets before 12 o clock the toe will stick into the chest ! I saw an american sniper scope years ago with a built in " spirit level " to stop canting the rifle so always held totally veritical so NO canting ! very useful idea !

Im 6"3, slim and ahve beehn looking for advice on youtube. Ive seena lot of contradicting advice, some saying you should not close one eye, and eye dominance isnt the issue many make it out to be. Others saying you should not lookd own the barrel. Im rather confused. Any insight would be appreciated.

At 1:24 the finish on the trigger guard, receiver and forend release catch of your MK38 look like an old service rifle where the finish has worn to a subtle warm patinated brown colour.....did you remove the Silver Nitride finish? Have you used barrel browning on it?
