One of the most awesome angles I ever saw in my life! Kaufman should be in the hall of fame for what he did. Hands down one of the greatest feuds of all time. I was stationed in the Memphis area during that time and this is all anyone ever talked about. Kaufman drew nuclear level heat. Great times!
My buddy Lenny from New Jersey turned me onto this video. Thanks, brother! We were golf caddies together at Preakness Hills Country Club in Wayne, New Jersey in the 1980's
Not comparable to other feuds exactly but this is the funniest in history. Lawler extreme creativity also. Pure non stop drama but hilarious. Hard to beat.
I actually used some of Andy's tactics at a wrestling show I used to do back in the day. It worked so well. Most fun I ever had. If I could do it again I would.
Jerry did an incredible job selling the feud on Letterman. I knew that they had to have practiced that piledriver move, but I had no idea that Jerry taped the wrestler promo stuff. 😄
he used to wrestle women out of the audience, like they didn't set up anything so he really had to pin these women. I think its hilarious. After the Lawler feud they kept using andy kaufman in all kinds of angles, with jimmy hart and stuff. I wish we had memphis wrestling on tv growing up, i only found out about it later. I would've loved it.
I knew nothing of Andy Kaufman and only learned of him through this angle/work with Lawler. Pretty good stuff for competing against Vince McMahon/ WWF.
One of the bios, either Zehme or Zmuda, says those Southerners were calling him a Yankee Jew and wanted him dead. 🫣 He wanted "real" reactions... that's "really" the South lol.
WWF dropped the ball by not letting Andy Kaufman wrestle at MSG back in 83' because two years later after Vince jr. took over his father's promotion, Vince jr. realize his father made a huge mistake & he went after celebrates like Cyndi Lauper, Mr. T, Billy Martin, Muhammad Ali & Liberace to create the very 1st WrestleMania. If it wasn't for the main event & all those celebrities then the show might have been a bust cause if it wasn't for the main event match, you could have seen any of those matches on Saturday morning
The Lawler/Kaufman storyline was the absolute BEST EVER. This feud was to wrestling what Dave Chappell's fake Frontline story about "Clayton Bigsby" was to comedy. Nothing will surpass it.
Those were best golden years that will forever be in my memories from when i was a kid long live the king's Jerry & Andy

Jerry Lawler was perfect for Andy Kaufman. He understood Andy and what he was trying to do. Kaufman was lucky that Vince Sr. turned him down.
Thank you very much yes it me Andy
I could listen to Jerry The King Lawler for hours
ANDY WAS GENIUS! FOR SURE LOL
Great guest
Epic story

Best work in wrestling history

Andy Kaufman was truly ahead of his time.

In the movie Man on the Moon.
Seeing Jerry Lawler at Andy's funeral .. .. I all of a sudden got the joke!
?
I honestly thought i was 100% legit.................. lol
I knew nothing of Andy Kaufman and only learned of him through this angle/work with Lawler. Pretty good stuff for competing against Vince McMahon/ WWF.
So I thought the beef was real😂
I love those promos, they are so... he comes off as a huge smug asshole, and it works, because his character was a hollywood style heel.

Haw-haw!!!
Hello yes I did and yes it me andy and yesI'm alive and well and thank you very much
Hello it me Andy yes I’m alive and will
LOL, This is a bar of soap. Then all of Memphis wants Lawler to kill Kaufman. Brilliant! I love it.
Not sowp!
I thought Letterman said he knew what was going to happen.
He did, but Jerry didn't know that he knew.
Lawler, Why dont you retire before you embarass yourself!
