  • When Jean found a squirrel Moshi Mushu in the forest, he waited for his mom to come but she never did. He decided to bring him back and nurse him to health. Moshi Mushu got super attached to Jean and they would play together. But eventually, it came time to release him back into the wild.
    Please note that squirrels are wild animals and should live in their natural habitat. Don't try to get one as a pet!

    My wild squirrel, Boobie, showed up at the window while watching this video. I gave her a walnut, scratched her head, and came back to watch your story. Boobie comes inside sometimes but her home is outside.

    I would like to have an update if the squirrel survived in the big bad world. 9 weeks too young and how does he learn to forage food. Any update anyone?

    • @broad.sounds
      @broad.sounds 25 днів тому

      Hey I’m the guy from the video! We know he survived the first night as we caught him on a wild life camera! After that, it’s difficult to know as we really tried to not get him to used to our house, especially because we have dog and cats and we didn’t want him to not be frightened by such animals if he encountered them in the wild. According to the professionals who guide us, he had very good surviving chances and was very likely to find his siblings who would have accepted him back as they are very sociable at this age. They stop being so friendly at puberty. Squirrels instinctively know how to diversify their food sources as they are omnivore and have to change diet throughout the seasons. We did get him used to all edibles present in the ecosystem at the time ! 😊

    • @broad.sounds
      @broad.sounds 25 днів тому

      Hello! Of course I did hide over 30m’away while checking on him with binoculars. I also made sure to not feed him before and to ensure he would still be a bit cold (but not too cold) because this increases the chances of him calling his mother. He was also hidden from the sight of other animals, especially birds. I explained this in the interview but it didn’t make it in the editing 😊 let me know if you have more questions !

    Nine weeks sounds way too young to release. And just judging by your video, you didn't give any support, at least putting out food and water, and is just cruel and irresponsible. That squirrel, especially still very young had no skills to survive on its own. Many people have raised squirrels and released them, but they always made sure to have squirrel feeders available as well as water.

    • @caryladams7038
      @caryladams7038 27 днів тому +3

      You could also say that the longer he kept the squirrel, the harder it would be for both him and the squirrel. Don't forget: he did say he got advice about what to do.

    • @r563
      @r563 27 днів тому

      The life span of the average squirrel is only six months. I agree a human raised squirrel would need support to have any chance at all of surviving on its own .

    😬 Poor squirrel! Very irresponsible of this guy to release a 9-week old squirrel alone into the wild when s/he's been pampered indoors and cared for by humans most of his/her life. Why bothered building a cage or naming it in that case? Sounds like he just got tired of pet parental responsibility. If release, why didn't he do it gradually and into a safe, familiar yard so, at least he could keep tabs on the squirrel to make sure she was ok? 🐿

    So you released a squirrel that had never been taught by its mother how to find food and water, what the dangers are, and how to find shelter, into the forest with no kind of support. They learn those skills from the mother. Your squirrel has no survival skills because it didn't grow up and learn from her. Great job Einstein.

And standing up for an animal which has been put in a situation where it will most likely died because it was dumped outside without knowing how to survive isn't rude, its neccessary.. After nine weeks from birth with a human feeding him and taking care of him, this was not a wild animal. It was a pet. A pet dumped with no survival skills. Rude? Maybe. There are so many ways you can convey your message with respect and professionalism without condescending rudeness. Of course your feelings, perspective, right/wrong pertaining to animals, recommendations, suggestions, advice, and opinions are valid, free speech and all.
      If you are incredibly passionate about animals, there are plenty of stories and videos that could benefit from your style type gumption and advocacy.
      Those stories may range from animal cruelty, neglect, killings, dog meat market, high kill shelters, fake animal abuse rescues, and slaughter houses just to name a few. Just the other day, 17 (from elderly to puppies, inability to cover cost of treatment), healthy sweet temper but incredibly scared dogs were euthanized at 1 shelter alone.
      Those whom have sacrificed to save animals, rescues, rehabilitation, catch and release (wild/domestic) may discourage them to continue due to lack of support. We certainly don’t want to lose the selfless dedication and important contribution to society.
      My intent in replying to your post is not to shame, embarrass, humiliate, and certainly without malice. In your original post, I sense you may possess vast knowledge, experience, and expertise of incredible value. You would be a great asset, source, and educator. If that’s the case, you could achieve your goals faster, reach further communities, attain impartial success without the need of an abrasiveness approach.
