  • As some of you guys know, your boy is struggling with Kidney Stones, so keep me in your thoughts. But today's video was filmed yesterday, before my first run in with the issue. Thanks as always for the Vu's, willingness to help me with the weekly content! In today's video Phu Vu (@_epicbmx) goes over the Top 3 Mechanical mistakes on your bmx bike! The first is the sprocket hat, chainwheel reducer or adapter, which is what causes issues with loose chains or tight spots in your sprocket. The second is the lack of spacers in your headset which lead to a loose headset, ovalizing your headtube, and crushing your headset. The last is adding a race, to forks with built in races.

I’m more into mountain bikes but I have a 12y/o who lives and breathes BMX. I’m completely out of my element when doing any repairs/upgrades. These videos are hugely helpful, so I appreciate the time that goes into making them. As a suggestion, a video about cheap parts vs expensive parts. Thanks again.

Love the tech stuff. I'm from the late 70s,80s Era and this is new to me. But I love some of the upgrades that's been made since then. Threadless forks and stem system is one of them that I really like.
I really like the sealed bearings in the hubs and bottom bracket. Though I'm not sure what have with sealed bearings in my current (customized from previous owner) bike from the early 2000s a Kink Freebird. I will want to change to sealed bearings whatever is not sealed, eventually.
    Subscribed. 😎👍

These are some of the most detailed and easy to understand videos ever! Thank you so much for doing this. A bike shop that's upfront and knows exactly what they're doing. With that being said, I would love to see a video on how to properly install cranks. Because I have run into a problem where I rotate the cranks with my arm but they seem a bit tight and don't rotate freely. If I loosen one of the crank bolts then it fixes the problem but then the crank bolt is loose. How to fix this problem so that the cranks can spin/rotate freely with the crank bolts secure and tight? Also noticed that when I pedal hard that I sometimes here this clicking/pop noise from my chain. Not sure if its related to the issue I mentioned or if it's something entirely different.

Flip the bike on its bars and seat, bike stands better, Zip ties on fork and or chain stay of the frame if its rear wheel or use your front or rear brake pads and calibers to help with a zip tie on the brake lever in place, when you got 1/4" distance from brake pad to rim... start counting spokes from where the bend starts to end, if its bent from the left then loosen those spokes about 1/4" then tighten the 2 opposite sides from the 1 spoke you just loosened the same exact amount a 1/4" tight.

I was a bike mechanic for years in the mid 90's (I was changing my flats when I was 8yo, small annoying flex (I also ended up having to fix all my friends flats too, even after showing them how)) and the the new subtleties to how a bike is build is going in the right direction. I challenge you to find a 3 speed from the 50's and disassembly completely, 3 speed and all and show the viewers how far we come. Just the jump from the mid 90's to now has been a game changer.
