    I have a cara cara that I planted last year. Can't wait until I get some fruit from it, I bought it after going to a citrus clinic at a nursery, where they had about 15 different citrus to taste. I have a Moro blood orange that's the same size, so still no fruit. I also have a Tango mandarin that tastes just like the cuties you get from the store. I would love to get a Rio Red grapefruit that is super sweet but I'm not sure I have space for one.

      I have two ruby red grapefruit and two myer lemon trees. For Xmas I make lots of marmalade,lol and I also do a lot of canning. I had received two to begin with then I fell in love with them because I can grow them in ground so I lined my back driveway with them most other citrus won't grow well here, my grapefruit trees are grafted onto swamp grapefruit root stock so they can survive the winter here my Meyer lemon trees are in my greenhouse in pots. I always bring a basket of fruit to friends and neighbors at Xmas time along with my orange-pineapple marmalade. It makes for excellent presents that doesn't hurt my bank account during the holidays.

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  3 роки тому +2

      I've had that happen before, what I've learned about citrus in containers is that they need good well draining soil, regular watering and more while its flowering, and very important make sure it has mulch. That makes a big difference 🙂

    The best time to get ripe fruit is when it falls off. So please dont pull them off the tree. When they fall, they will still be perfectly young. Just check for the new fruits that fall every morning or day (:

    • @GardenloveHomestead
      @GardenloveHomestead  3 роки тому +2

      Definitely agree with you. Citrus are know for holding onto fruit for a very long time and if it doesn't drop any and you want some its okay to harvest some too. Preferly if its in the ground fully ripe. They do taste the sweetest that way. Thank you for watching and for your support 🙂🤗

    I am not sure how good store bought 'Cara Cara' fruit are, yet I bought some from a grocery store, I think that yours is sweeter than what I got, yet what I got reminded me of a blood orange and a sweet grapefruit, somewhat acidic yet not a lot of sourness, flavor does change as the fruit ripens, and yours does seem more ripe.

    You mentioned the grapefruit in comparison w the cara cara. Have you tried salt on the grapefruit? It sounds odd, but it cancels out the bitterness and brings out the sweetness of the grapefruit. But I always go for the cara cara over the navel. It tastes so much better than the navel. I usually peel em and bag em for my launches. I may look at finding a tree that grows them. Never throught of that.

    • @GardenloveHomestead

      I can't wait for my tree to produce some cara cara. I gave it a chance to get established before it bare fruit! Not sure why I like the grapefruit with salt. It makes the bitter taste go away. However the grapes tree I have doesn't it need it. The fruit is actually really sweet.
