Great review. The 770 definitely sounds more full bodied, but the P120 brings out that upper midrange at a lower spl nicely but tends to sound a bit shrill or distorted at higher spl.
Before listening to your conclusions: 770 seems better suited for your (great) voice. The 770 just seems like a better buy considering the accessories as well. The 120 on the other hand didn't seem to do as well on either the low end (voice and drums) or high end (high flute). They both seem like good mics for the price, but I think the 770 is the winner! After your conclusions: It seems I wasn't far off base. Looking forward to hearing some of your great music on that 770!
I agree 770 works for your voice. I own the AKG P120, it's a pretty good mic. Key to getting a really good sound with that mic is to use a decent preamp and decent converter, which most interface have nowadays .
Thank you very much for the review! I have a deeper voice myself and had to scroll through a few reviews until I found your gold comparison here. You sure helped me make up my mind, thanks again!
You fricking stud, I have both theses mics sitting in my shopping basket and wondered if someone ever reviewed between the 2. Thank you so much. The 770 is cheaper and comes with a nicer mount and case so as long as you think sound quality was superior with the 770, then done deal. My voice is nowhere as bassy as yours though I'm curious how both these would stack up with a female singing voice?
Thanks. I'm overdue for a decent recording mic, and I think I've narrowed it to these two mics. I am leaning toward the MXL 770 for the same reasons you sighted hear. Although the price is up a bit from when you recorded this video. No matter, a few dollars isn't going to break the bank. In fact, the reason I haven't bought a recording mic before now was I thought they would be much more expensive. Either of these would be good and either is affordable.
At these prices, you can have both. I think the 770 is very smooth and would probably work for more sources than the P120. For this comparison, I preferred the 770 on voice and drums, but the P120 on the flute. Thanks from the future :-)
P120 seems brighter with somewhat flatter response and would fit someone with a mid to high frequency range. The 770 really suits your deep voice really well. It would be interesting to do a comparison on both mics again (a redo) with you together with another person (baritone-tenor or mezzo soprano-soprano). Thanks! 😊
I am a singer and currently using SAMSON C01u USB Condenser Microphone and want to upgrade my home vocal recording setup. I am confused with the following microphones: 1. Lewitt LCT 240 PRO 2. Lewitt LCT 440 PURE 3. MXL 770 4. MXL 990 5. AKG P120/P220 Note : I don't have a treated room. Looking forward for your suggestion.
Hello! After listening to your singing in your videos any of these mics would handle your voice just fine! You would get more detail from the 440. The 240 and P220 would be my next choices. Then the 990. The 770 and would work just fine for you as well! But if I had to pick just one I'd go with the LCT 240. Good luck!
Hello sir. I am a Hip-Hop musician. I'm setting up a home studio. I have an acoustic arrangement. I'm going to get a microphone to work with Focusrite solo but I was hesitant. I would be glad if you help. 1-MXL 990 2-MXL770 3-RODE NT1A 4-LEWIT LCT240PRO 5-AKG P220 I would be very happy to make a ranking.
Between the Audio-technica AT2020, AKG P120 and the MXL 770, wich one is better for singing and acoustic guitar recording? And wich one offers the best sound quality? Hope you answer me. Thanks.
@@CaneMajor Thanks. And between the AT and AKG? Also, I have a Behringer C-1U (cheap USB) that has a really high noise level, it's worth the upgrade or should I save for a better one? (At least like the P220 or so)
Hi sir good video and good information thank you..A question for you did you ever done a video about the "Rockwell crm pro condencer studio mic" is in Amazon for $59.95?
My 770 has a low end rumble but didnt find out until a year later as i didn’t use it straight away. Not sure if others have experienced it but it is very annoying dont buy one it's a complete waste. I trusted mxl but have been let down and have had no response from mxl after emailing
I wish I had a voice like yours. You should do Narrating for a living. You have the voice for it. Great comparison video.
Great review. The 770 definitely sounds more full bodied, but the P120 brings out that upper midrange at a lower spl nicely but tends to sound a bit shrill or distorted at higher spl.
I love the variety of instruments you sampled with thank you

My that voice is beautiful!
Well done always enjoy your clips.
Nice design, works well and very easy to set up.
Just bought both of these microphones for my studio. Great Review. Thank You
The first word that came to mind when you started speaking, "Boy".

Haha I had gotten the mxl 770 first and was digging it but after 7 months it just died. Within the same day I bought the akg 120😅
Good to know
Mine also about to die. I dont know why it is recording vocal around -27 db until I push interface mic volume to 100%.
I dont know how to solve it.
It's probably bc of humidity

What a great comparison Bro. Thank you.....its really help to make a desiccation. video presented beautifully....❤️❤️❤️
Best comparison video, Thanks alot❤️ Love from India 🙏🏼
And i wish i had a voice like yours 🔥
I purchased the p120 last night before finding you.
Does your 770 have a annoying low end rumbling noise. Please give me a shout
Excelent review, thank you so much!
Currently -51% off $49 right now on Amazon.
The AKG is cleaner. The MXL is warmer. Otherwise, they're very close (and both vastly exceed the quality level for making recordings for UA-cam).
Thanks for the info, I agree with what you said and will be buying the mxl770
really good

1:28 MXL 770 (FILTER ) VS 00:1:34:50 AKG P120 (FILTER)
Nice video
What if the lower frequencies were EQ (equalised) more flat, how does it sound then?
Ppl always pick P120 as a winner.
Hey I m Singer plz suggest which Mic Is Best For me..Amoung Akg P120 , MXL 770 And Blue Yeti Usb Mic

Hello! Between those three the MXL 770 better mic for singing and guitar. And with the case and shock mount is definitely a better value. Good luck!

For a female singer, would you recommend the P120 more? I really don't know which one to buy :( !
Hello! Both will do just fine with female vocals. The 770, in my opinion, is just a better value. Good luck!

AKG is a lot clearer and built way better.
Hello sir. I am a singer and have bought Behringer C1. Is it worth upgrading to AKG P120?
Hello! Do you like the way you sound with the C1?
@@CaneMajor I guess the there is more noise in C1.
@@CaneMajor I am satisfied with it. Just thought would the mic upgrade increase my overall performance?
