Brian, my man... THIS was the real meta update. I learnt more in this video than I have tuning in to your pubs/coaching sessions or any of the past 5-10 videos of yours I watched. I've been struggling with understanding how to move and focus on the new map and this was really eye opening as to the habits that are ingrained from pre 7.33 that I need to shed to get better. The only thing that would have made this better was catching you recording it live. Top tier content, can't wait for more like this.
I've always had a hard time watching your replays since you mostly go "this is a stupid move from my posX" and I'm just here sitting, thinking "why? what did he do? why is it so bad?" But this format really clarifies those inner moments you have while playing and explaining them is much more constructive :) Please more of this!
I really appreciate the advice you give throughout your channel. I've been watching for a few months now and honestly your content has pulled me out of a rut not only in Dota, but in my mental health. You've provided a medium to initiate a process of self-reflection and scrutiny in a fashion that isn't condescending or judgmental. In the past 2 months I've climbed from 2.2k to 4.4k, and every game I feel like I'm picking up valuable experience to help me further my progression. It feels great, and the most valuable part of this to me is that I continue to believe I can accomplish more. Thanks a ton for the content!
There is one problem though. In your custom lobby everyone are silent and have respect for you. So when you ping they go. When you tp out to avoid low skill plays nobody gets upset. In true lower MMR brackets there is constant pinging and shouting in russian in the voice chat. There is a point where you try to explain why this is bad and they spend more time cursing at you in russian rather than playing the game.
I think this is some of the best, if not the best educational DOTA content on youtube. Even as a mid player, there are a lot of concepts here that apply to every role, and the deep dive into the thought process behind it is really helpful. Keep up the great work BSJ!!
I think the combo of stream-of-consciousness and the after-the-fact analysis of why and what specifically you were trying to say in those few words is very helpful. Keep it up
This video is great! As a support player, I'm super glad that you don't solely focus on core videos. I learn from those arguably just as much, but these really help fine tune my play style. Keep it up lord BSJ
For context, I was the PL in this game. I felt completely outplayed in this game; once you guys started death balling, I didn't have enough farm to play against a farmed bristle and bloodseeker. Usually, I try to stall these out by pushing out waves and forcing people back, but you pushing the waves in really made my game so much harder. Despite the loss though now I can proudly say that I solo killed BSJ 😂gg!
I hope as you watch this replay, you can see all the space you actually had to free farm uninterupted. Also you said "I didnt have enough farm to play against a farmed bristle and bloodseeker" ...... so dont. Easy fix. Majority of my games as a carry I find myself in like this, I am in enemy jungle almost 90% of the time. They are playing on my half of the map and never go back to their side. EXAMPLE....Bsj tps at min 22 to go get their own wisdom rune and the 14 minute one is still there. ...... Go farm enemy jungle , get fat and then go save the day and carry the game.
mf, no one care. No, im just joking. Although you have some misplayed few times, but i think that you play so well based on average MMR. Keep it going, you got lots of potentials.
For the way you played the map, you should have picked either 1.Slark, 2.Ursa, 3.Drow, or 4.TB. You don't split the map enough and fight too much around the timings of others instead of yourself being pos 1
I get your point @27:48, but my experience in low MMR games is that if you don't join your teammates in fights even when they are bad, you end up getting raged at and people will just throw the game or afk farm and ping spam you.
A huge masterclass! This kind of analysis helps a lot to learn and cement some knowledge and good practices when we're playing! I also really enjoyed this new format! I would appreciate a lot if you continue doing the next videos like that. Thank you very much for the good content!
the fight at 17:40, no goal fight at a part of the map. it is really life story of 2k MMR, am 2k still, and as core I usually leave or not join and if they die there they will at least will flame me, two times I got isolated by the team and got reported, and then got 24 ban after two such matches in one day. Still don't know what could I have done better when I don't share my team the same point of fighting.
I'm doing a lot of these right, like TP for gank on how it was explained around 24:00 and I try to immediately to back to other lanes. The problem is always the team being very passive. After the gank, enemies are dead, they hit jungle. Making the enemies that are alive, able to farm a wave or worse, destroy a tower.
Seen several of your videos, but so far this one has been really useful to drive home some points. The whole "this is a bad play, and you can do this when your team insists on making this bad play" was very very helpful.
5:10 "Hoodwink's spell use is not good because..." Being sub-optimal, I look for a reason and see Primal Beast's Courier walking into attack range of Vengeful Spirit. It was maybe a panicked babysitter move.
I've been playing DotA for years by now, but I've never played Ranked. Maybe waaay back, but since the 7.33 update came out I've been playing nothing but ranked.. first couple of games were super easy, since most of the players had no idea what a wisdom rune is, did not use the teleports at all, it was just free. I went from my starting rank Crusader 4 to Archon 4 in a god damn week. But then life happened, since i'm leaving from my work they are making so many problems for me I was waking up at 6 AM and came back home aroun 9 PM. Whenever I had some free time, playing games was the last thing I had on my list, so after like almost a month I've returned, people knew the map better, games were much longer and much harder. I've been one-tricking Veno since his change to Universal, that hero is just superb for lane bullying, setting up kills, punishing enemies, harassing enemy carries, I'm building Guardian Greaves 90% of the time and if we have someone like Undying who needs to build Greaves I aim for Boots of Bearing. Sadly almost nobody even at Archon buys Pipe or Chrimson so that's my job, since I mostly play Support Veno. It almost feels like you can by anything and that hero is useful. But I've crashed head first into a problem I just can't work around... I always watch the minimap, know what's going around the map and usually give tips for items via voice-chat so my teammates know what's up ... but my problem are Hard Carries that loose lane and kinda don't really understand how long they should be farming. It's almost every second or third game, where my carry instead of focusing on farming joins me in harassing the enemy, so he looses gold, and around level 6 they have at least boots and some items, where my carry usually just barely finishes his boots, since he's missing all the farm. Ofc "gg" then takes place and they just disappear into the jungle for years. Any tips on how to convince these people to start joining the fights? We are playing 4v5 for 20+ minutes and sometimes win the fights, yet our carry even though has gotten ahead of their carry still farms. I'm not kidding when I say, that I've learned some Russian (I can read it just fine, but still don't remember some words, so speaking is much harder) because 90% of my teammates are from Russia, so I've learned "You have enough items, let's fight as a team" or "Please join us carry, we need you" and so on ... sometimes it works, sometimes I get yelled at that even my grandchildren will feel the Russian cursing in their bones, but anyone wondering, it's really cool to see when you TRY to speak at least a little bit Russian? They'll be super friendly. Before the Bounty Runes spawn and you have someone in team from Russia? Just try to speak to them, you can then shut up for the whole game, but just "Hello team, I'm not speaking Russian very well, but let's win this" and the amount of times I had conversations with them, fun and just overall positive attitude, just because of one sentence. Give it a go, learning one sentence through google translator takes literally seconds :^)
been playing league of legends for years, and just starting to look at DOTA for the first time this week, this video is legitimatly more interesting that league of legend's gameplay videos i have seen in the past 3 years. thank you for the informative content, and showing me what is actually in the game.
Man this video perfectly explains Archon rank mentality. It's literally just 'hero brawl' with little to no strategic thought about objectives, map control, timings or positioning. TBH I think those are the key downfalls of most players in Archon. They don't think about efficiency in farm, or where they should be at any given moment, it's literally just brainless - walk towards the enemy > hope they show, if they do > go on them. Everyone does this, the carries as well. Everyone will ignore whole waves pushing into towers, to the point where towers fall randomly because the team is busy fighting somewhere irrelevant. And maybe we win the fight, but meanwhile there's a bunch of the map left uncontested - waves left unpushed, waves left unfarmed. I think the main reason is most players in Archon - 2/3k - probably play on autopilot. Fighting is the most exciting part of the game, the overall & bigger picture of map & game strategy is a lot less exciting - and also harder/more boring too - so most 'casual' players just ignore it.
As someone who was 2k and recalibrated to 3k in 7.33, the phenomenon "my carries should be pushing waves but they never do, so I will push waves constantly as a support" is what defines 2k bracket.
Agree .. especially the low 2 k bracket . In the archon 4 and 5 brackets you will see Carries pushing the waves n even waiting in jingle for you to show on wave .
Incredible. This is what a player that want to learn new and good things is looking for. Thank you so much for what you're doing and hope you will be as great as you are right now :)
Really great video. Much better with the extra deep comments. It makes me learn a lot more. Please do more of this. Even when you just place a ward, it would be great to pause and hear your deeper thoughts on why exactly that ward spot, what are the advantages and disadvantages of that spot, what other spots would you otherwise have considered etc.
39:00 when necro is alone at bottom t1 and they all dive him. I don't really understand why you can't all just tp or 2-3 tp atleast to save him / kill 3 enemys. Afterwards you would just walk to the twingate and continue roshing, this would add maybe 15s to the rosh timing which is not very significant trade in recources considering you are saving your mid / killing 3 enemys. I get that without the twingate that would be horrible it would delay the game for 2-3mins, but I don't really understand the reasoning here, maybe I am missing something?
how recently was that watcher changed, i watch it in dire safelane when its pregame bounty taking phase every game to know if there are 5 heroes coming and I have to back off to avoid giving first blood, like I literally did it a couple hours before this video came out and it was still working through fog. you're able to see the aura of the watcher pulse once through the fog
BSJ can you make a video of what position should we really practice to help our rank match making. Once that are relatively easy to learn and position that can impact the game the most
@@paulbarclay4114 in low MMR games the´re are too much farm not being taken by both teams. BSJ takes that farm as a VS pos 5, a hero that can´t jungle very well. If that farm is being taken in mid, just go ninja mode in the jungle and you will get somewhere
I dont think there is possible one other scenario where you can climb MMR rather than be so extremly good that you overcome toxic behaviour, casually grifing, unrepaireble mistakes, bad group desitions and bad plays by your temmates.
Hey BSJ, really want to know your opinions on solo feeding cores on your team. Like 30+ mins into game they just go to very unsafe place like an enemy tier 3 ALONE (or 2 or 3 heroes) when no one is showing on the map even though we are losing or behind by a lot. Because its their tower no one on our team can connect. Do you just accept the lose and go next? :( Another question: never ending games. Lİke imagiine enemy has 5 hyper carry heroes and your team has the perfect line up. Your team wins and stomps early game but no one on your team hits tower, pushes lanes, takes rosh, takes tormentor or goes highground. The game becomes 50+ min and enemy just wins. Do you just accept the lose and go next? :(
I was wondering if you thought about the twingates at the rosh situation. Imo necro could have stayed more def. behind the tower to get the wave. So if they dive, you can kill them and use twingate afterwards for rosh (Intact T1, won teamfight and rosh in the aftermath). If they are not bot, he gets the wave, defs tower and connects with Twingates afterwards (more efficient). I see the point, that more efficient plays are more complicated and require a better understanding about the game or more on point communication, which you both dont have in the situation. So it can seem like a high risk high reward play. So it might be "better have a safe rosh and drop a tower and fix the map afterwards" than "get many things probably done but there is a risk"?
Not sure if BSJ will read/respond but just wondering why @36 mins when he's talking about how he's annoyed at the necro because they're smoking to top to rosh and the necro is bot... I get that he wants the necro to be connecting somehow, but the twin gate was basically right beside him, so if he wanted to connect top he still could've very easily done so? I think I'm missing something but not sure what it is. Btw amazing video btw. Love the post game commentary in addition to the in game ones. Gives a great additional layer of depth to what you get to learn.
The talk at 5:11 is very confusing. Are you trying to say that if the creeps are pushing into your lane, you don't want to be aggressive since you might be missing last hits?
Efficient trading. If we tradewe only miss2 cs and whole wave gonna help. If enemy use their skill they gonna miss their cs thas why its weong. He use skill then run. Wasting mana without auto attacking stun duration. Its posturing in higher mmr u were gonna get punished if u do these kinds of thing wrong but in lower bracket enemy doesnt punish u much
32:57 if you would do this port in a game where noone knows you, guaranteed someone in your team would spam ping you and tilt probably resulting in a lost game ngl...
I've been pos 5 before the pandemic instead of carry but my teammates are too incompetent...they have good items but their timing and mistakes costs us a lot in games
Nice content , pls do more educational content on pos 5 as there isnt many people to do that anx learn as myself am stuck at divine bracket and what to kniw what i am doing wrong so can improve it to help my carry . Thanks
I was 4k back in the days, then I made a break and came back to dota. I callibrated myself with my friend, who was constantly under marijuana influence and received 1500 mmr. I climbed to 1800 mmr, but whenever I am above this mark, I am getting 4 out of 5 games leavers. My carry leaves the game at minute 10~13 or my mider leaves the game at around the same time if I am carry. My main position is 3 & 4 and even if I switch to pos 1 or 2, either of these leaves the game. My behaviour score variates between 10k and almost 11k. I calculated, out of last 100 games, 38 of them were leavers. So at best I could win only 62 out of 100 games, which means that my winrate is capped at 62% if I never lose a single game. I am not that good to keep winstreaking that much as I have been a 4k player and not 10k and even for me winning 62% of the games while enjoying pos 3 or 4.
I've been watching these videos and learning so much... However had a fun interaction the other day, I was a carry and my support was raging at me because he "hated people who farmed"... We had a great lane, farm was great and everything but he ended up leaving because I was farming and stomping the enemies
As a lower rank player I can explain. Those fights that make no sense is because lower rank players at some point in the game, especially in close game or if they’re losing, often think “we need to team fight or else we die.” They don’t think so much further and as a result, they fight anywhere on the map, ideally where they can farm as well, but really, I’m pretty sure they don’t put any thought into mid versus top or bot lane. At least that’s been my experience. It’s more a random ffa, so trying to apply 8K mmr logic will only leave you confused.
12:47 imo with 3 blood grenades you should've just thrown one at them. u would have got ember for sure and maybe could have gotten hoodwink too. i'd rather spam too many blood grenades while getting kills on enemy cores than die with 3 grenades in my inventory and with enemy cores at low health. also might have killed PL around 17 minutes if u wait for him to doppel first
also if i'm playing venge and walking around the map a lot. ur gonna be walking past a bunch of camps near the 50+ second mark so i would just throw my wave at a camp (or even two!). may as well stack at the same time as you're moving around. it's a 25 mana ability.
i swear, the team sitting as 4 behind the mid tier 2 in a losing game, waiting for the low ground fight, that they will probably lose, is what almost always happens in 3k aswell. its especially suffocating, when u are split pushing and forcing reactions but your team still just sits and waits there.
2 more really big problems, are just missing players in an otherwise favourable fight because they didnt save their tp or the constant chain feed after a lost fight.
I’m mega confused. I feel like I was always told that single pulls to small camp are a sure fire way to ruin your lane, could anyone explain why BSJ does it?
Why? You need to found the reasoning from the one who told you the advice. Most of the time, if both supports single pull, Offlane support will win, because medium camp hit harder. In this case, BloodS always push the creep forward and BSJ want to fix the equilibrium quickly AND the HoodWINK does not unblock medium camp, so no punishment.
Seeing you get mad at a team with 2k mmr average is pretty funny tbh. Maybe these players aren't as bad as you think or maybe you're not as good as you think you are. Some good tips here definitely but maaan, you're pretty toxic with that hot temper when you start getting mad at these low mmr players. Take a chill pill dude
Honestly low MMR players think farming is taboo and would rather play tdm, that's why their grouping is so random. They don't consider advantages meaning that we can take map instead of just keep killing them. I know you can, but that's not how the game ends, obviously.
Has anyone noticed a skill decrease in the higher brackets with this patch? In the old matchmaking system, I was stuck at 200 mmr. New system recalibrated me at 1.2K mmr. 1K higher mmr bracket, but it seems like most of my teammates are worse than when I was in 200. I actually had a guy die and walk back to lane at lvl 2, which never happened before.
18 out of 20 games on average end up as loss for me and it's a stomp. If i pick support my carry or mid has more deaths by the 15 minute mark than there is minutes in the game. And it just gets worse from that point on. If i pick carry i end up playing solo safelane because nobody picks support hero or even if someone does pick it it plays core build and does not supoprt me even steals farm and feeds enemy that there is no way i can catch up with enemy carry (also they blame me for fail carry altho i was solo bot). If i pick mid its literally always 10/10 times bot and top feed so it doesnt matter if i win mid or not. When i play pos3 i basically do my best to fuck up enemy carry farm and i mostly succed in that but it doesnt offset enemy carry enough to counter my carries shit farm and/or feed on bot lane. Funny enough when i join unranked its great experience fun games even when losing its not stomp
I like the voiceover. Definitely helps understand the reasoning behind decisions. Would love to see more
Imho post game analysis is what educational smurf games have been missing. Thx BSJ, it's super helpful

This sentence has the power to change anyone's perspective
One day will have BSJ adding more details to another BSJ that is explaining another BSJ's plays
I've always had a hard time watching your replays since you mostly go "this is a stupid move from my posX" and I'm just here sitting, thinking "why? what did he do? why is it so bad?"

Genuinely hate playing with russians
so true 😂

having your own smurf lobbies is actually so smart, props to you BSJ
There's only two type of carry in low bracket, either afk farm entire game, or just running around like a wild chicken
28:14 This guy has become even more wise, recently.... "if you blindly follow teammates decision making in your bracket that's where you'll stay"

I think this is the best edu Smurf yet, love the commentary
Voiceover is great. Added commentary and review of what we need to do better. I also recognize that this takes more time to make. Thank you BSJ!
Incredible. This is what a player that want to learn new and good things is looking for. Thank you so much for what you're doing and hope you will be as great as you are right now :)
4:10 2k mmrs knowing how to aggro the creeps makes me happy
this format is really good, pls do more smurf videos with analysis in post please!
one of the best edu smurf games, made so because of those on point explanations!
BSJ's point at that moment in time was that the team was not in sync so there was no way for them to pull off the type of "team play" you describe.
how recently was that watcher changed, i watch it in dire safelane when its pregame bounty taking phase every game to know if there are 5 heroes coming and I have to back off to avoid giving first blood, like I literally did it a couple hours before this video came out and it was still working through fog. you're able to see the aura of the watcher pulse once through the fog
this voiceover thing is a massive improvement to this type of videos
BSJ can you make a video of what position should we really practice to help our rank match making. Once that are relatively easy to learn and position that can impact the game the most
pos 4/3. simple heroes, cheap items, strong abilities. even with no farm enigma with dagger is all you could ever want
Just play YOUR best position and pick heroes that are not relying on your team too much and have early impact as 2/3/4/5 or good scaling as 1
All positions impact the game the most
@@paulbarclay4114 in low MMR games the´re are too much farm not being taken by both teams.
Mf didn't even notice his pull camp was blocked... legitimate wheelchair player.
best content so far, my brain grew so much I can no longer fit it in my head
I really like the voiceover. Nice addition to an already great concept. Really like this series.
Wow, this is great BSJ. I do think this is a way better format. Loved it! Thanks for all your content.
i super dig the bsj talking over bsj moments!!
Another question: never ending games.
8:20 no grenade? thanks for the vid
thank you for the tips BSJ, the objective of the geng fight.yeah that's a bang in my head.
Voiceover was very good. I learned a lot from this.
Voiceover was great. Thanks BSJ!
I was unaware of the watcher change, good to know
Love the voiceover. Keep with that in others educationals smurfs
Voice over is $$$$. Keep doing this format. VERY helpful. Thanks BSJ.
BSJ, a little tip for you. you can use a portal from low ground on radiant side. it will save you some time
The talk at 5:11 is very confusing. Are you trying to say that if the creeps are pushing into your lane, you don't want to be aggressive since you might be missing last hits?
Both missing last hits, and pulling unnecesary creep aggro which will chip your health over time in these early game laning fights.
Efficient trading. If we tradewe only miss2 cs and whole wave gonna help. If enemy use their skill they gonna miss their cs thas why its weong. He use skill then run. Wasting mana without auto attacking stun duration. Its posturing in higher mmr u were gonna get punished if u do these kinds of thing wrong but in lower bracket enemy doesnt punish u much
Why does he stay at 26:00 but leave at 32:30 even though the situation is similar where there’s no objective for the fight?
I'll say there's no farm( bristle top), runes etc to take at first mark.
32:57 if you would do this port in a game where noone knows you, guaranteed someone in your team would spam ping you and tilt probably resulting in a lost game ngl...
What is dopple? He threw a blood grenade to make him 'dopple' he said. Is that where they were limping? Does that make them walk slower?
Really nice! As for the mid fight thing: it happens a ton in LoL, too. They call it ARAMing. Lol
This guy is insane in teaching dota 2 he is the only one that can teach me and make me understand the game
Thank you bsj, for helping people realise that dota really is very cool.
Thank you for this educational video. You have a lot of fans in the Philippines BSJ!
The reason there's 2 bsjs is because he bought aghs irl
I got 9k hours in Dota and by watching this video i again learned something. The learning never ends. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Anyone know what announcer is loaded in this game?
Did this necro not scale ulti at lvl 6?
As a lower rank player I can explain. Those fights that make no sense is because lower rank players at some point in the game, especially in close game or if they’re losing, often think “we need to team fight or else we die.” They don’t think so much further and as a result, they fight anywhere on the map, ideally where they can farm as well, but really, I’m pretty sure they don’t put any thought into mid versus top or bot lane. At least that’s been my experience. It’s more a random ffa, so trying to apply 8K mmr logic will only leave you confused.
BSJ and PL literally walked past each other at 34:12 because he didnt look at minimap
What Pos 5 supports would you recommend for climbing out of Guardian?
This got my to sub to the channel. Extremely insightful analysis.
Title: This is Why You Are 2K.
Me watching this being a 500 mmr. :
Voice over is very very good. Please continue doing this.
Love the voice over man
Seeing you get mad at a team with 2k mmr average is pretty funny tbh. Maybe these players aren't as bad as you think or maybe you're not as good as you think you are. Some good tips here definitely but maaan, you're pretty toxic with that hot temper when you start getting mad at these low mmr players. Take a chill pill dude
Gotta solar crest ur carry right
This video was more helpful than the smurf itself because we get the idea behind moves.
Maybe next time we just watch highlights some videos
27:56 because why not 🤣🤣
This type of content is amazing! Please do more of this
Voiceover is extremely beneficial! Keep it for the next.
The voice over makes it even better than usual 🎉
Love you bro, great content!
wait so is bsj's mmr taken into account for the team avg? like everyone else is 100 mmr or is his excluded?
Honestly low MMR players think farming is taboo and would rather play tdm, that's why their grouping is so random. They don't consider advantages meaning that we can take map instead of just keep killing them. I know you can, but that's not how the game ends, obviously.
Why did he pull a camp which is not stacked?? It pushes the lane.
I actually had a guy die and walk back to lane at lvl 2, which never happened before.
this is by design, they wanted to push lots of people out of herald/guardian hell where the skill levels varied highly
ty for video block enemy cemp in early game is really strong for win
Funny enough when i join unranked its great experience fun games even when losing its not stomp
at the 21 min mark i feel like he shouldve picked up the wisdom rune
25:50 Welcome to my bracket xd
